My moms lefthand has swollen like a Mikey Mouse hand and her left side is tingling....her face, arm, and leg -

My mom had a mini stroke 3 months ago. She has very high blood pressure but she is on major meds for that. Her blood pressure is 147/85 . In the last three months my mom has under gone every test that Kaiser knows about to figure out why she is tingling in her her left side of her face, arm, and leg. They finally said they can do nothing more for her and to just come back in six month. Meanwhile, my Mom is constantly tingling in her legs and it sometimes goes into her arms and face. I am VERY worried about my Mom. She is 55 and has a history of hypertension where it reached 210/109 and she has high cholestrol too. I want her to be seen at UCLA but I do not know if Kaiser will pay for a second opinion. Has anyone being dealing with these health issues or have known anyone that have had these similar issues. Any help or direction would be greatly apprieciated. I am sooooo close with My Mom and I am very worried about her. Thank you so much any help you can give me.

If you live in the United States, you can contact the Insurance Commision of you state to help you with Kaiser. Call ANY insurance company (but Kaiser) and ask them about the state insurance commision where you can make complaints against insurance companies. DON T give them ANY more info than you absolutely HAVE to to get the phone number you are seeking. DON T name names or anything like that and up to the drs to make sure the meds don t react to each other. ALWAYS ask the pharmacist about ALL of her meds to see if they can react. Sometimes pharmacists know MORE about meds than the drs who are prescribing them. I, too, am very worried about your Mom. She DOES need a LOT more testing done to get to the bottom of this. In the mean time, have her review ALL medications she is taking with ALL of her doctors to see if some of this is medication reactions. If it turns out that that is what it is her medications should be changed, but it s up to her to tell ALL of her drs what ALL of her meds are. Hope this helps.

I think she should see a physician that, knows about strokes

Has she been checked for MS? Tingling, especially in legs, is a commom symptom.

Diet and exercise, watching what she eats may help and she may need to get a second opinion.

I don t know anything about your insurance situation, and I may be naive, but I thought everyone is entitled to a second opinion. I know that even if you have an HMO you can make a case to have medical care from a doctor not on their plan, if your doctor has not done the job. All that swelling is particularly disturbing as it could indicate peripheral edema or congestive heart failure. I wpuld insist they have a look at her right away, so it doesn t get dangerously worse. It s wise of you to trust your own instincts on this. A lot of doctors are fine, but many just see their patients as an assembly line producing cash for them. They don t really bother to try to help them. It s very sad. Does the UCLA hospital have an ER? Do they accept Kaiser? Is there anyone you can call who helps people deal with medical insurance issues? We have a woman who helps us here in New Jersey for about $800 a year. It is a specialty business, well worth the money. In any case, I wish you and your mother well. I hope it is nothing more serious than needing an adjustment to her blood pressure meds. I don t want to panic you, but I would get going on this now.

You are wise to seek a second opinion if there has been no resolution to this problem!! You have to be aggressive and firm with these health care companies these days especially when your mom still has these trobling symptoms. I have no personal experience with these specific symptoms but you really should get her to UCLA if you can. You might also consider alternative medicine. IF the hypertension is the root casue of the physical symptoms then perhaps there are some regimes like accupuncture that would help. Not trying to diagnosis here! I am not qualified, clearly. BUT I can feel your concern and anxiety and think you are a wonderful daughter to be so proactive in the care of your mom. Prayers and best wishes!

sounds to me like she is not having just 1 mini-stroke, sounds like she is having series of mini strokes, that could possibly leading to a big one, and surely kaiser will pay for a second opinion because that Dr sounds like he is quot;offquot;... check out her heart, or blood clots, her a damaged nerve even (the more i think about it, the more possibilities are coming)... get a second opinion definitely.. good luck with your mother, God Bless

Oh my goodness. I know you must be scared. Let me give you a hug. It is going to be ok. I had one thought. If this becomes a case where you need some support to get that second opinion, then try your local Congress representative. Call their office. Ask to speak to them. Tell them you live in their district and need help. It is a long shot, but sometimes these politicians like to do things to help people to show that they care for the folks back home. Remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease: so don t be shy in speaking up. And if you all are religious, by all means go talk to your priest, minister or rabbi. They can sometimes make referrals and offer help, perhaps to help you get some other local physician to at least look over her medical records.

Right time to take BP tablet daily? -

want suggestion for the right time to take stamlo beta BP tablets daily for a mild hypertension wether it should be imm after breakfast or anytime This is for 45 years male

same time every day, usually in the AM since your BP goes up slightly during the day.

I think the most important thing is to take any medication like that at the same time of day and with a meal. In other words, whatever meal you eat at the most regular time of day would probably be best.

I take mine first thing in the morning.

the best suitable dose is in afternoon after launch because Normally when your taking launch in after noon there is possibility to increase your blood Pressure so its beter to take the dose in afternoon after launch but regulary same time every day.

a

This cant be good blood pressure....? -

Just took my BP again today and got 184/107. Ive been on meds for it since November, and still nothing Obviously eating healthy and getting enough fitness, but still wont go down. They put me on a 24 hour bpmonitor, and my avg was 171/106. But, the cardiologist doesnt know how this is happening or whats causing it. He noted I had minor valve leakage in my mitral and triscupid valve, and mild leakage in my pulmonary valve. He says its very common with people and that im far to young for anything like this to worry about at my age (21). Im always getting chest pains, out of breathe, and occasional fainting, but he wont do nothing for me. The kidney disease and hypertension doctor just took 7 viles of blood, and a 24 hour jug of urine from me, I wont find out for a few weeks, but anyone know what they are testing for? What could this BP be doing to me (ive had it my whole life but just got the meds for it in November), yes im young and in great shape but gosh im scared and answerless

Whose to say what all the blood is for, they are probably doing all kinds of blood tests. maybe a complete blood count, metabolic profile -this tests your electrolytes and sugar, may be testing some of your hormones. Really they can test blood for all sorts of things! The 24 hr urine is usually a creatnine clearance-they want to know how much creatnine you are getting rid of in one day. They usually do this to test kidney function. So I hope this help. Good luck with your results.

Don t know if there are other details of your health amp; bp but I had hbp that responded moderately to poorly to different medications... either erratically or creeping up over a period of time. Each time I told my m.d. and they would prescribe a different medication. Now I have medication that keeps my hbp under perfect control. Give your m.d. all the details!

First of all blood pressure will kill you in the long run not the short term. At 21 you have time to wait for the reports. If you don t like your cardiologist get a new one a second opinion never hurts as to your Numbers 184/107 and 171/106. I am 42 years old and my Blood pressure was 210/120 and they put me on the lowest dosage of blood pressure medicine and prescribed fitness and eating and I am now with in normal range.

Considering that you have had this for years and gotten no definitive answers... seek another opinion or 2!!! Don t think that I d add ANY more exercise to my daily routine until I ve had more testing AND more opinions (remember... you have quot;leakagequot; in three different valves in your heart so your heart is not efficient enough to handle the stress of added exercise (it is possible that you were born with these problems AND that they are totally fixable!!!) See a cardiologist that is highly recommended by top hospital personnel in your area... soon!!!

Untreated High blood pressure is hard on your organs, usually starts with the kidneys.

Have you had your thyroid levels checked? What about any carotid dopplers? The nephrologist is probably ruling out kidney diseases that could be causing the high blood pressure or problems with aldosterone. I am sorry to hear this but it takes the meds some time to work but you should have seen results before now. May need meds changed or another one added. Sounds like at 21 you have an underlying problem with a hormone or renal but do not stop until you find out what it is. Even if you have to change doctors.

A norman BP is 120/80. See another doctor.Don t use salt, Instead use Mrs. Dash seasoning--a little. Prepared food is usually salty. Go on the internet and read about hypertension (WebMd) is a good site. And exercise after a stress test. Untreated HP can lead to a stroke or heart attack. Best wishes.

Chiropractic? -

I was just curious as to why people some people tend to say...quot;I think chiropractic is a scamquot; quot;I don t believe chiropractic worksquot;. I ve noticed that those are two phrases I see a lot when people give reasons for not going to a Chiropractor. It s not about believing and it s not about what they think. It s about the research and there is plenty of research to support Chiropractic care as a valid treatment for pain and other health problems such as otitis media, hypertension, low back pain, and some visceral problems. And when people say they aren t real doctors....I always want to know what makes a REAL doctor? The ability to prescribe drugs and perform surgery? Just wondering some opinions.

In the early days, the medical establishment put down the very idea of chiropractic, dismissing it without ever giving it a chance. The body can t possibly have built-in mechanisms for helping itself, right? Leeches and blood letting work so much better...when your spine is misaligned, no? It can t be quackery if it helps. Drugs treat symptoms, while chiropractic treats the underlying condition. I ll take the latter any day!

I believe that many people discount Chiropractic care because they are brought up on the quot;MD mentality.quot; In other words, the only quot;doctorsquot; that can help are the old fashioned family doctors. Personally, I wouldn t hesitate to use a Chiropractor, a Naturopath, or an MD as long as they had an open mind and were truly interested in my health. Chiropractors have a long standing tradition of care and concern about their patients. Hey -- if it doesn t work, don t go back.

I like them--!

Im looking for a low salt, high calorie diet .? -

If I start smoking and taking caffeine pills will I lose weight? -

I just bought a pack of smokes today, and i am trying to get hooked on cigarettes. I heard if you get addicted to nicotene, it: makes your taste buds get weaker increases matablism cuts cravings weight loss What you recommend a specififc brand? I started on Marlboro Ultra Lights. Caffeine. I heard In doses of 100-200 mg. caffeine can increase alertness, relieve drowsiness and improve thinking. At doses of 250-700 mg/day, caffeine can cause anxiety, insomnia, nervousness, hypertension, and insomnia. Caffeine is a diuretic and increases urination. It can curiously enough make it more difficult to lose weight because it stimulates insulin secretion, which reduces serum glucose, which increases hunger. bought a small coke at mcd today and also heard it has a weight loss stimulant in caffeine, is this true also? I do NOT Want to get anxiety, would it work best if i took just 50-100mg to help me loose weight and absorb information better? Where can i buy these pills? should i start at 10mg and work myway to 50 and then 100?

yes. caffeine and cigarettes will help you loose weight. try some marlboro smooths and excedrine migrane pills. they have 65 mg of caffeine per capsule. take two of those and work out, it will be the most amazing work out of your life.

Please don t start smoking! That can destroy your body in a way being obese won t and you won t just be putting yourself in danger but your loved ones also. Your more likely to get Cancer by way of second hand smoke than by actually smoking yourself. Don t do that to your family. A moderate workout schedule(30-40min workouts 3-4 times a week) and eating at least three real meals a day will no doubt help you lose weight.

Don t start smoking. You will never quite! Just go on a diet. Good luck

Sounds like you re trying to take the lazy way out. If you wanna lose weight, you gotta deal with eating right and exercising - i know, it sucks. Smoking does not increase your metabolism. You feel more energized for a very short period of time because as it kills your brain cells (every time you smoke) it causes a head rush (feeling light headed) and people mistake that for short term energy. And as a former smoker I one hundred percent ASSURE you; you snack just as much, it does NOT cut cravings, and you still taste perfectly. Getting addicted to nicotine will only scr*w you over in the future when you want to quit because suddenly you realize that you always smell disgusting, your teeth and nails are yellow, and you have a disgusting cough. Trust me, I have been through it.

Question about Biopsy? -

my mom has been nose-bleeding for quite some time now...she was confined last year november and the doctors found no problems, but still she was admitted to the hospital for 3 days...then after a year of not nose-bleeding, this october, it started to bleed again...it bleeds like unusual 2-3 times a day ... she is not high-blood, no history of hypertension.... upon check up, the doctor (EENT) just concluded it MIGHT be some infection that s why the bleeding keeps coming back...but as the sound of it, it wasn t that negative but she also advised a CT Scan... she s under medication for 5 days and then will undergo CT Scan...after which the result of the CT scan will be the basis as to whether she needs to undergo biopsy... question... what is the process of nose biopsy? is it painful? my mom is 65 and she might feel nervous with the process? is it safe does it have an anesthesia so she won t feel any pain? how long does it take normally? answers are appreciated.. tnx

Sorry to hear about your Mom s nosebleeds but try not to worry so much. It is very common for doctors to biopsy about anything. They just need to rule out everything. Standard procedure there. It may be an artery or a prior injury that starts the nose bleeds. My son got hit with a hockey puck and had profuse nosebleeds that had to be cauterized. That burns off the part of the vessel that causes the bleeding. No anesthesia....just cauterizing with a numbing solution first. A CT scan is another useful tool in diagnosing the problem if there is one. You say it started back up in October? What state do you live in, because altitude and the air changing can bring this on, as well as sinus infections or a deviated septum which requires surgery. I had the deviated septum and the worst part was the packing. If your humidity is too dry , then nosebleeds can occur. My guess is that they are looking for polyps and they remove them easily and biopsy them . It is usually benign and nothing to worry about. In a biospy they take a little piece of tissue, or a polyp if there is one and biospy as a standard precaution. Try not to worry as I know you are scared. This won t help your Mom to know you are scared. Think positive and support her. It is up to the doctor whether she is put out under anesthesia. Most doctors opt for outpatient surgery also called same day if possible. I assume by medication, you are talking about an antibiotic. If she gets frequent sinus infections, this may be why the doctors are doing these tests. Some people feel some discomfort but it shouln t be too bad. My tolerance for pain is high but I don t know your Mom. It sounds like she s in good hands and the right tests are being done. Have faith!

The ENT surgeon will numb the area before he takes the biopsy. Apart from a little soreness afterwards she will be fine.

I wish I could help with this one but I cannot. I had a liver biopsy a few years ago and it was no biggie. I don t know about the nose. Best wishes.

I went for a lumbar puncture and it didnt go as planned!!? -

When i went in for the lumbar puncture they went though what would happen and it all seemed to go wrong. First they couldnt draw the fluid because they could not find it even though they were moving this needle around in me a lot, which was very painfull i told them to stop, Is this common not being able to get the fluid and also during the procedure i had a shoting pain down my left leg which made me yell out and 1 day later the pain is still there any ideas,They are planning to do it again and sedate me next time . The reason for having this procedure is i suffer with benign intercranial hypertension.

I am so sorry, any procedure involving the spine is a delicate one, main nerves come through it and the fluid needed is in the centre of this delicate structure. It isn t always easy to get a specimen, The pain down your leg is through the nerve going down there has been disturbed. With sedation you will be more relaxed, tension makes any procedure more difficult as muscles tense up, become more dense and less easy to penetrate.

this is a very painfully procedure, i have had a few of them an they had real trouble getting the fluid. being sedated is the way to go! i however never was. i ended up with an anesthetist doing it rather than a doctor at the hospital and it was much better. and yes it was sore for a few days after. good luck and dont worry

when my daughter was first diagnosed with leukaemia she had to have lumbar punctures every month but they knocked her out for it so i know how pain full they must be as she was in great pain wen she came around. i hope you get better real soon.

Strange symptoms of anxiety? -

extreme spikes in blood pressure and heart rate, pounding pressure in head, chest, and neck, arteries seemingly popping out of neck, arms, and palms, pulse visible on various parts of body, fast heart rate and extreme fatigue with chronic yawning which induces yet more tachycardia and hypertension, light-headedness upon standing followed by pounding pressure and pulse presenting as black flashes in vision, memory lapses, feelings of extreme fear, restless leg syndrome, hot/cold burning sensations throughout the body, tingling sensations associated with neck movements, headaches with pulse, heavy-headedness, slightly blurred vision, slightly slurred speech, dizziness (feeling like ground is moving up and down), irritability, bouts of extreme rage, mood swings, dysphoric mood, chronic worry and obsessive compulsive behavior, suicidal ideation, insomnia, tremor, muscle twitches, exaggerated emotions, hypomania, feeling like you are about to disapear or explode literally.

Yes, I had ALL of that when I went through panic attacks. Lasted six long years. Most of those years I was SURE I had a tumor or some kind of undiagnosed medical condition. When I finally came to grips with what it was, it was pretty confronting. But I had panic attacks that sent my BP as high as 180/100

What is wrong with me? Headaches, nausea, fatigue, odd blood pressure/heart rate? -

Lately I have had a lot of strange symptoms that have been making me feel like junk 99% of the time. I have had migraines since I was about 6-7 years old, but recently they have become more frequent, and even when I don t have a migraine, my head usually hurts. The migraines feel like an ice pick is being driven through my head from the base of my neck on the right side straight through to the inside edge of my right eyebrow. The headaches have felt like a throbbing pain behind my left eye and tension in my neck. The other day when I had one of these headaches, I felt like my heart was racing and that warm, fuzzy feeling you feel just before you re about to pass out. I was at Walmart when this happened, so I took my blood pressure. It was 140/92 (hypertension) and my pulse was 102 bpm. Normally, my blood pressure is within the healthy range 140/80-ish, and my heart rate is about 75-80 bpm. I have also been EXTREMELY tired lately. I ve been sleeping an average of about 10-14 hours a day since this started (or at least wanting to, to the point my husband has remarked about how tired he can tell I am). Normally I would sleep 7-8 hours. I have felt nauseous a lot with these, but have only thrown up once. Also (and this may be completely unrelated), the other day, while I was up cleaning the house, some of my toes on my right foot felt like they fell asleep. I had been up walking around when this happened, and not wearing shoes that were too tight. I ve also felt like I ve had a low-grade fever (maybe 99.5, at most) this past week. I am 28 and have never had any major health problems. I do not use drugs. Any ideas on what s wrong with me?

See your doctor. : (

I believe you should ask the doctors doing the physicals for your company. I don t see what kind of help you can get from making your test results public like this. Please, don t put your health in the hands of an amateur forum. Respect your mind and body. You must consult your doctor. (I am a physician myself and this is the best advice I can possibly give you.)

Wow that was too involved for me. I would say yes though.

If you have Geopathic Stress, you should take care of it first.

The hypertension can certainly kick your physical, but for the hyperplasia and the adenoma, you definately want to consult an endocrinologist, then talk to the physician giving you your physical. They should know the guidelines for pass or fail.

Sounds like you ve got bigger problems than working

I think u have a problem as u have not still found out how to sort it, second is ask the airport authorities who take decision whether they will allow u on ur job...

With all those problems, i think your high enough.

What is a normal waking pulse ox? is one of 93 ok? -

I went to the ER having problems breathing and my pulse ox was at 93. I have pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the artery going from the heart to your lungs) so I don t like to mess around. They told me at the ER that it was not normal but that I had to speak to my Pulmonoligst. I did and he brushed me off and said it was fine. The ER doc said it was bad. My Pulmonoligist is foreign and I feel like I am being brushed off and also wonder if it is b/c I don t have insurance. Can I get some input from someone in the medical field? Thank You.

The main problem with pulmonary hypertension (pulm HTN) is that the blood pressure in the vessels of the lung becomes elevated. Over time, if this pressure remains high, it causes remodeling of the pulmonary vessels themselves. The vessels become more stiff, to better withstand the higher pressure. This, in turn, causes the resistance to blood flow within the lungs to increase as well. To compensate, the right heart has to work harder to pump blood through the lungs for it to be oxygenated. Left untreated, pulm HTN may result in right heart dilation and heart failure. While most doctors agree that a pulse ox of gt;90% is tolerable, in reality, a normal pulse ox is generally above 96% (often around 99-100%). That said, 93% does not provide enough information whether or not your pulm HTN is well controlled. Unfortunately, most physicians are not well equipped to diagnose or treat pulm HTN - even many pulmonologists. If possible, you should consider seeking out a specialist near you.

Simvastatin, perindopril and amlodipine.? -

Why would someone be on all three? My Dad is getting these and is not very talkative on why. I ve researched these drugs and they seem to be for hypertension, cholesterol and possibly heart problems. But not being competent in this field I wondered if anyone could give me a general idea as to why someone would be on all three. I understand that the best answer will be an educated guess but it will give me a better understanding. Thanks for your time.

Jay, - I hate to differ with you, - we ve been regular Answers respondents in the past. However, I have to disagree with your comment (made several times) that quot;high blood pressure adds to the workload of the heart and arteries....quot; Please don t take offence at this, but it doesn t. That is, high blood pressure has not the slightest effect on the workload of the heart. That is, quot;the workload of the heartquot; is precisely that. It is quot;the work that the heart must performquot; and is quantifiable. One can calculate it, and it is expressible in two forms, either (1) CO x Pm. and/or (2) CO x the square of TPR. ........ Whichever way one calculates it, the answer comes out the same, and is independent of so-called quot;blood pressurequot;. That is, quot;blood pressurequot; doesn t change it, because it can t, -it can neither increase it nor decrease it. Why? - well, because everybody s resting TPR is essentially the same (about 0.02mmsHg/ml/min), and everyone s average CO at rest is about 5 litres/min, and from Darcy s Law (or The Mean Pressure Equation, or the Law of Flow, -whichever name you prefer) this means that the true Pm (central aortic Mean pressure, the actual driving pressure delivering blood out of the aortic valve) has to be 100 mms/Hg. As you can see, it matters not what systolic and diastolic pressures are, so long as their weighted mean is 100. So the cardiac workload is 100 x 5ltres, whether you take quot;blood pressuresquot; like mine (195/105) or those of a healthy young adult. As I said, please take these observations in the spirit in which I make them, and I d be most interested and grateful for any comments. Sincerely

Here is a general idea... Simvastatin (Zocor) used for cholesterol. Cholesterol builds up in the arteries and can cause a heart attack. Amlodipine (Norvasc) Helps blood pressure and chest pain thereby reducing the chance of a heart attack. Perinolpril (Aceon) Helps blood pressure and is used in patients with coronary artery disease to help prevent heart attacks. Sometimes one medication is not enough to control a patients blood pressure so doctors prescribe combinations to get results. It sounds like your dad s doctor is doing everything he can do with medication to help him.

Simvastatin is for lowering cholesterol levels. Perindopril amp; amlodipine are against hypertension being ACE inhibitor amp; calcium channel blocker respectively. It s quite normal to be on an anti-hypertensive drug and a cholesterol-lowering drug at the same time. But, I don t see why your dad has to be on 2 types of hypertensive drugs at the same time. While these drugs are often safely used together, careful monitoring of the systemic blood pressure is recommended during co-administration, especially during the first one to three weeks of therapy.

The specific functions of these drugs for which they are presecribed are - Simvastatin is used together with a proper diet to treat high cholesterol levels in the blood. Using this medicine may help prevent medical problems caused by such substances clogging the blood vessels. This medicine may also be used to prevent certain types of heart problems in patients with risk factors for heart problems . It works by blocking an enzyme that is needed by the body to make cholesterol, thereby reducing the amount of cholesterol in the blood . Perindopril is used alone or together with other medicines to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). High blood pressure adds to the workload of the heart and arteries. If it continues for a long time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. Hypertension may also increase the risk of heart attacks. These problems may be less likely to occur if blood pressure is controlled . Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker used to treat angina (chest pain) and high blood pressure. Amlodipine affects the movement of calcium into the cells of the heart and blood vessels. As a result, amlodipine relaxes blood vessels and increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart while reducing its workload. High blood pressure adds to the workload of the heart and arteries. If it continues for a long time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. High blood pressure may also increase the risk of heart attacks. These problems may be less likely to occur if blood pressure is controlled. All these medicines can be given individually or in combination with other medicines to treat various symptoms and ailments of Heart related disease. Your doctor must have decided like this considering various aspects and it is in order, as I feel your father is a chronic heart patient. For your information, I may add that I take both Simvastatin and Perindopril. So you need not worry and give the correct dose to the patient as per doctors advice. -

Does coconut juice cures stage4 chronic kidney disease? -

i was diagnosed with CKD (no kidney stones involved) it maybe caused by hypertension becasuse my family have a history for hypertension

No it does not. Basically, the hypertension has irreversibly damaged you kidneys. Your nephologist has probably told you that there may well be dialysis in your future. Talk to him/her about hemo (via the blood) or peritoneal (fluid in the abdomen) dialysis. Best of luck.

I dont want to die, help please? -

about 1 year ago,in january 2008, i got diagnosed with hypertension. i am supposed to take medication to keep myself healthy, but my mom doesn t give them to me.she would go get the refills on time, but she never actually gives them to me, she throws them away or flushes them down the toilet. now, im scared because i read all kinds of things hypertension can do,like heart attacks, diabetes, and even death and it makes me cry just thinking about it. i just want to get better, but i don t have a car to get my medication on my own, and im only 15 so i don t think they would give it to me,and i don t know what to do i just want to get better i don t want to die.how do i get her to give my medication to me,

This amounts to child abuse. Call kids help line, call the police and ask for their assistance or advice, call child protective services, see a councilor at your school.Contact the Dr who prescribed the medication and tell them. What is the name of the drug you are supposed to be taking? Do you know the dose?

Ask your mom why she won t give you the medication. . The next time you go to the doctor make sure you tell them you haven t been taking the medicine because your mom doesn t give them to you. If you have a health problem and you need to take medicine....I think your mom has to give them to you otherwise it would be neglect. Can you talk to any other family members about how your mom won t give you the pills?

Okay, this is really ticking me off that a mother would do this to her child. What is her purpose in this? What you need to do is talk to your school counselor. Your life is more important than your mother saving face. If your school counselor does not listen, then talk to a police officer. She is being ridiculous and she is endangering your life. Also, is there anyway you getting them out of the trash and taking them?

There are many answers on the internet that will only stress you out more. If it is true that she is not giving them to you, you should start by telling a friend and teacher. Then if they can t help you...I would definitely call CPS or the police. Don t be afraid of what might happen if you do call someone or tell on your mom, you should be more afraid of what would or could happen if you don t.

Go to a doctor as soon as possible, do not tell your mom where you are going (could get a friends mom to drive you/bus) and tell the doctor that you havent had the medication because your mom is doing this If they dont believe you or dont do anything then go to another and another until someone will help you All the best!

I would go on webmd.com and check it out yourself, it s a great resource for looking up drugs and treatment options for various ailments, such as hypertension. That way you can be prepared to go to an adult with all of the information ready, so they will be more likely to take you. Good luck to you!

that is so freakin scary, why doesn t she give them too you. I would tell her that you need them and if she doesn t start giving them to you than your gonna call your doctor and pharmist and tell them what shes doing. Do you have someone else to pick them up, your dad?, maybe a aunt or ancle, good luck. if you were where i lived i would get them for ya... i live in msla mt take care, and dont stop unil you have your meds!

Ok- this is serious! You have to ask her why she isn t giving you your medication. If it gets too far, you might want to say things like quot;DO YOU WANT ME SICK, OR WORSE?quot; It s insane!!! If she doesn t give it to you after you confront her, look into the phone book and call your pharmacy. Tell them the problem! Or maybe tell you dad, or a sibling. Anyone can help! :)

this is serious, why would your mom go and pay for something and just flush it down? it sounds strange, maby she is taking the pills and has a drug problem. I suggest that you should talk to your school councellor about it. she may have some ideas for you.

Tell another adult in your life, because this is important. A teacher, guidance counselor, coach, whatever. They are obligated to help you not only by law, but assuming they are decent human beings.

Tell your mom that you don t wanna die and the pills will help you! If she cares she will listen and give you the pills! You could call a local pharmacist and tell them this and they would probably let you pick them up! Im sorry

You need to call your doctor and tell him/her what your mom is doing! I can t believe she would do such a thing! That is horrible abuse. I would actually report her to the police if you can t reason with her. Good luck!

if what you are saying is true, your mother is abusing you and you need to tell someone. Tell a teacher, or a school official or a counsellor, but tell someone.

This is a form a child abuse. Call a child abuse hot line and tell them what is going on, they will contact the authorities in your area and get you help.

Don t ask her for it, while she is somewhere else or not in the room get them and take them! what is she gonna do about it?

Okay. Why is your mum doing that? thats NOT RIGHT!! Have a talk with her..if that doesnt work out then tell the police or the nurses. call them. N relax whoever you are..you will fine trust me.

Go up to your Mama take them meds and if she don t agree then tell some other big wig like your doctor or the police that your mama is being a HO and won t let you take them meds DO IT NOW!!!

If this is for real, and you re not a troll, then call your local protective services agency, police department, etc. This is clearly child abuse.

Report her to the authorities! How cruel of her. But 1st, try to tell someone else in your family or school counselor.

If your mom won t give them to you, you ve gotta report that to some authority best of luck, God be with you.

talk to her about it, then if necessary call the police or hospital

Pick up the phone and call 9-1-1

why wont she freaking give you your medication!?!?! KILLER MOM!

tell someone doctor or police

if you told them what your mom was doing they could help you out and get you the medication,

contact social services.

Talk to your teachers at school.

oh my goodness..... contact your counselor in school or police, doctor, etc. anyone who will listen..... you need help fast...... good luck.............

Calm down It is just high blood pressure There are things you can do without the use of medication to remain healthy. Exercise a couple times a week Eat lots of fruits and veggies. Cheerios are good for heart health You really are too young to worry about this. I am sure you mom had your best interest at heart. Some of those medications are more harmful than good, especially for someone as young as you are.

I think ALL except for one answer is Way jumping the gun here. While I don t know why a mother would take a child to the doctor if she didn t want to give the medicine, for something like hypertension @ 15 I wouldn t go so far as to call it quot;neglectquot; or quot;child abusequot;. How about this, he goes and calls all these authorities, and yay, now he Has no home, social services has jerked him out of his house and institutionalized him in an orphanage until he s 18, great, BUT he ll get his hypertension medication which after a year of not taking it, is obviously having no dramatic or potentially fatal consequences... Think before you Talk people...I would personally think his blood pressure would be MUCH higher after losing his mother and not being allowed to contact her except controlled visits etc etc... Not one of you have ever had any contact with a DHS official apparently... 1.Talk to your mother to find out HER motives for this action. 2.Calm Down Big Time, your blood pressure is probably through the roof for worrying like crazy for such things as this, if I were your mother, I would probably think it was stress induced Not hypertension disorder. 3.How high IS your pressure, do you do multiple daily checksgt;? Or just going by how high it is when you see the doctor which obviously freaks you out? 4.Think before you call DHS, they will Invade your life, and you ll spend Lots of time speaking with therapists, judges and DHS personnel, Woot fun time. And if you think your relationship with your mother is alienated now, wait till DHS comes to the door to quot;take you to safetyquot; and tells her she s an abusive parent...

High Risk Pregnancy at 38? -

Hi, I am 37 and just discovered I am pregnant. I have a 17 year old, and twin 3 year olds. With my twins, I had a very bad pregnancy - incompetent cervix, bedrest, and was told I may have pulmonary hypertension at 24 weeks and that I may need to make some very hard decisions as PH can kill a pregnant woman. I delivered at 31 weeks and had just been told that I did not have PH but my pulmonary pressures were very high. I had an emergency c-section and my blood pressure dropped dramtically and I had a very bad adverse reaction to whatever they were giving me. Am I crazy to think i can have this baby? is there anyone out there that can give me some medical advice on what i should do? Thanks,

No. your not crazy if you think your going to have a baby at your age. My step-mother was 39 almost forty when she gave birth to my now 4 year old brother. Also, my aunt had my now 4 year old cousin Joseph when she was 42! I m sorry but I don t have any medical advice.

Every pregnancy is different. It sounds like you are in decent health and do not have an underlying health issue. Sounds like there is no reason that this pregnancy can be normal.

Well...you re an adult so don t know why you didn t prevent if you had pregnancy problems...but oh well..... If your OB doesn t specialize in high risk pregnancies then consider changing to one who does. I would not take anyone s medical advice from YA for such a serious condition with your pregnancy. All I can say is good luck and God Bless.

This is the report of a series of eight patients with pulmonary hypertension (primary and secondary) who delivered at the McMaster University Medical Centre between 1978 and 1987. Seven of the eight patients delivered vaginally and had a successful outcome. The eighth patient was admitted as an emergency and died shortly after Cesarean section under general anaesthesia, performed to save the infant. The other seven patients were all managed by a team, including anaesthetists, cardiologists and obstetricians, from about 25 wk. The patients were hospitalized pre-partum and received oxygen therapy and anti coagulation with heparin. Analgesia in labour was managed, once anti coagulation was reversed, by low concentrations of epidural Novocaine (0.125%-0.375%) and fontanel. The patients were monitored during labour and delivery with oximetry and arterial and central venous pressure lines. Pulmonary arterial lines were not used because of increased risk and questionable usefulness. Vaginal delivery was managed with vacuum extraction or forceps lift-out to minimize the stress of pushing. After delivery, all patients were monitored in an intensive care unit for several days, anti coagulation was restarted, and all patients were discharged home taking oral anticoagulant therapy. The successful management of pulmonary hypertension in pregnancy should include team management started early in pregnancy and controlled vaginal delivery utilizing epidural analgesia. I would go through with the pregnancy i had 2 high risk preganceys I was bedridden has has harsh deliveries. if you have agreat doctor team you will do fine.

idk about your specific case cause I m not a doctor but 37 isn t THAT old.. they say after 35 but 37 isn t much after. Theirs a milf across the street from me who had a kid at 38 and he s a normal 8 year old, and she s super hot.

What is the likelihood that high blood pressure is caused by anxiety? -

My boyfriend is 26 and has moderately high blood pressure, in the pre-hypertension stages. In addition to that, he regularly has a resting heartrate of 90-100 beats/min, despite the fact that he s fit and healthy. He s been on a couple of different medications with limited results and lots of side effects (nausea, shaking, tired), and now his doctor says it s an anxiety problem. The first doctor he saw for this problem also thought it was an anxiety problem. So he visited a psychologist, and after several visits the psychologist said that he did not have an anxiety disorder, just the occasional anxiety that anyone would have. But his main dr still believes there is an anxiety issue and is now referring him to a psychiatrist. The reason it doesn t make sense is that he is a very relaxed, very chill person. He has had full heart screens, thyroid tests, and an EKG, etc., all of which have been normal. Is there something that the doctors are missing? How can this make sense?

If he checks out, he checks out. Having high blood pressure could also be a genetic trait inherited from his parents. Is he really fit and healthy ? Does he moderately exercise at least 3 times a week? He s 26, is he eating properly? Abnormally high BP is often treated with beta-blockers, mild for patients without a significant history of a cardiac problems. I m somewhat shocked to see that he d experience such adverse reactions to medication prescribed for BP around PH stages. Not to be any way condescending, but how are you judging and measuring his BP? If the sole basis is on the supermarket BP test or really anything not performed by a HCP, I wouldn t cause too much panic, they are often wrong. If there s no history in the immediate family of cardiac issues and having a slightly abnormally high BP is really all that s on the table, it s certainally manageable. He d need to find a decent regiment of a mild BB (perscribed by a doctor) and make sure to eat and execise properly, paying attention to any sharp pains in the chest, dizziness, or shortness of breath (to which you should go to the hospital immediately). Response to above: I had to ask the above, and hope I didn t offend. If you are truly unsatisfied with the results given to you by the doctor, take him to see a Cardiologist/get a second opinoin. Is there any history in the family of cardiac disease/abnormal high BP? How high in PH are the readings typically? What was perscribed to treat the BP? I really, earnestly believe it s something to take notice about and to monitor, espcially considering the amount of exercise and profession he s in (which, admitedly sounds stressful) but I do not think he needs to see a shrink for an anxiety disorder nor do I think is life threathening.

Stress can cause that. I have anxiety attacks, but i take xanax and it helps. Good luck... ;-))

My sister is a diabetic? -

she also has copd hypertension, many health problems. Sometimes she gets cramps all over her body. She takes potassium daily. The doctors don,t know whats wrong. Has anybody ever experienced this, or might have a thought?

Diabetes type I or type II? Also, diabetes is a vascular disease - this could mean trouble in other areas.

Anybody tried CoQ10 to lower high blood pressure?? -

I have reached phase one of hypertension with a blood pressure reading of 140/90. Yikes. Before I go to the doc to be put on meds, I m curious about the use of CoQ10 to lower high blood pressure. Anybody had success with it?? I am reading that you use 100 mg twice a day.

if yr reading is 140/90 then u need to be having it regularly checked by yr doc. mine was that 2 yrs ago im now 47, similar to u grandad had stroke mum has bp controlled by medication recently despite, a lot of exercise, very low salt diet and a diuretic (prescribed when my bp was first diagnosed) its creeping up and im due to go back next week to see what to do for it. ive not heard of co enzyme Q10 being used for bp but u could try asking your doctor, although some of them dont know too much about supplements even if u do take it u should let yr doctor know that u are. if the standard exercise/low salt diet dont work then i dont think that a supplement would either and medication is the only way. see your doctor because bp is dangerous to ignore, particularly with yr family history like me. good luck.

You missing so much important info on CoQ10 For better info on CoQ10 check the article on my website Report Abuse

heard of CoQ10 for heart health. Blood pressure, in general, no salt, low fat diet and exercise. Suipplements, omega-3, garlic, cayenne, hawthorn and rosemary. Calcium, Mg and K deficiencies linked to high blood pressure. Foods such as celery are good

salt is the biggy, lower your salt for a month and it should drop. If not there might be some organic cause like kidney disease or some such so dont delay seeing the quack.

If you really want a better answer then go to the link below. because it will give you the break down of what Co-Q10 actually does for your body. It yes one of its functions is to help maintain normal blood pressusre levels. On the site you also get to choices. U can get it in pill form or in Isotonic form. The Isotonic is the best way to take it. http://www.marketamerica.com/tkshopintl/...

CoQ10 has a lot of Cardiovascular benefits, including some aspects of blood pressure. Unfortunately, different people need different doses to be healthy, so I would recommend talking to a doctor that knows about supplements to find out what would be the best dose for you. With CoQ10, it s expensive enough that you ll want to make sure you re not taking too much... otherwise you re literally flushing a lot of money down the toilet.

Wow what you are doing is really potentially very dangerous! First if your BP is 140/90, how many times was this the reading, have you had 24 BP monitoring to confirm that any elevation is not white coat hypertension? Only 3 things have any real effect on lowering BP, other than medication: 1) Be as close to your ideal weight as possible 2) Take regular vigorous CV exercise 3) Lower your intake of salt. Your current reading, for what it is worth as a one off, is not yet in the treatment range. If the above HEALTH measures, rather than the quack pills, fail to keep it from doing so, you require scientifically proven conventional therapy to try and negate your increased stroke and heart attack risks. Don t ever play Russian Roulette with your health in this way!

Coenzyme Q10 will certainly lower your blood pressure a bit but not necessarily a lot. You can always try it out and if the result is too small then you may need further supplements such as odourless garlic, hawthorn, fish oil and perhaps others. A Yahoo search for quot;high blood pressurequot; + quot;natural remediesquot; will give you a lot of useful information.

What does it mean omeprazole and celexa high levels of blood afraid to take my medicine see full question.? -

omeprazole and citalopram (Moderate Drug-Drug) MONITOR: CYP450 2C19 is one of the two primary enzymes responsible for the metabolism of citalopram. Concomitant use of citalopram with drugs which inhibit CYP450 2C19 enzymes may decrease the clearance of citalopram. Caution is advised that higher citalopram blood levels may exist if citalopram is to be administered with a enzyme inhibitor. MANAGEMENT: Dosage adjustments as well as clinical and laboratory monitoring may be appropriate whenever an enzyme inhibitor is added to or withdrawn from therapy. Close monitoring is recommended for signs and symptoms of excessive serotonergic activity such as CNS irritability, altered consciousness, confusion, myoclonus, ataxia, abdominal cramping, hyperpyrexia, shivering, pupillary dilation, diaphoresis, hypertension, and tachycardia. I m taking low dose of Celexa 5 mg and 20 of omeprazole Very scared.I have very big panics, anxiety and other symptoms so I was puted on celexa also I have GERD to liner erosions and I m realy lost.

You re on effective doses but (probably) too low to worry about.

Is type 2 diabetes congenital? -

is type 2 diabetes congenital, infectious, or noninfectious? is cancer congenital, infectious, or noninfectious? is cerebral palsy congenital, infectious, or noninfectious? is asthma congenital, infectious, or noninfectious? is hypertension congenital, infectious, or noninfectious? please help. and if you know anyways to manage any of these please let me know. thank you. no websites please.

diabetes, non-infectious, with a genetic component. cancer, non-infectious, sometimes with genetic component, sometimes not, there are many different kinds of cancer. cerebral palsy is genetic, non-infectious asthma non-infectious, varied theories on whether or not it is congenital hypertension, not infectious, not congenital.

It s all hereditary. My husband is a type 1 diabetic 4 the past 17 yrs, the way he manages his diabetes is regular checking of blood sugar, seeing his doc on a regular basis, taking his insulin on time, adjusting his insulin as needed, watching what he eats.

Im on antidepressants and have bad side effets not listed on the med info...? -

i m on an antidepressant for my stomach-- (i have hypertensive nerves/ some nerve damage throughout my digestive tract, they were caused because my stomach got so damaged from eating gluten before being diagnosed with celiac disease), these work to calm it enough where i don t feel the pain) it has been working soooooo well! and my doctor says i ll only be on it a year! its been a month, and here are the side effects i experience that are enough to mess with my life-- i fall dead asleep a half hour after taking it and always have to sleep for at least 8 hours. i have uncontrollable sweet cravings (hehe, this is my favorite, but the worst because i have so many stomach problems ;; i have more than just the hypertension and celiac) but the other that i experience that the labels don t warn about is FORGETFULNESS! its crazy. i have always been the type of person who is organized, on time for everything, 8 calenders. but now i forget all the time. crazy things! Diseases in adults? -

Are diesease such as hypertension, obesity, diabetes closely linked or linked to their unhealthy diets in their childhood period ? Pls give good and long answers. Iam doing an important research Tks.

These things build up in adults because they quit playing. When I was a kid, I rode my bike everywhere, I played football with my friends, I would climb trees, I played. Now I have responsibilities and I have very little time to play, and no time to do the things I used to do to stay fit. I have a job, a house to take care of, and a family to take care of. The lack of play time has made me fat and makes me a prime target for diabetes and high BP. It is the adults that still play that don t have those problems.

Medicine for hypertension? -

There are many classes of medication for hypertension. The first line medication for recently diagnosed hypertension is diuretics. Beta blockers which slow the heart rate down are also used. These medications can be used alone or in multiple combinations. Diet and exercise are also part of the treatment for hypertension.

high blood pressure pills.

What are the causes for the high level of uric acid in blood? -

Iam aged 53, male and vegetarian. my blood has uric acid level 7 to 9 ml/dl and often develop renal stones (uric acid stones-not visible on x ray and dissolves with intake of alkalisers /echogenic with ultra sound scans) Are there ways to reduce the high levels of uric acid without going for medication. Hypertension and a high level of triglycerides{ 200 to 240} and low HDL {30 to35} and LDL 130 to 140 levels are also there.

Just drink much more water than you do now - at least 2 litres a day and keep away from acidic fruits.

Your kidneys are in trouble. I think the only way that can help you is through medication.

Avoid any beverage with alcohol content Avoid coffee. Avoid legumes and cabbages. Drink lots of water.

High level of uric acid in blood may b due to high nutritional intake of proteins in diet.

The only reason is that your kidney is not able to filter out the urea level from your body. The kidneys are unable to function properly. To set it right , you may have to visit a Homoeopathic physician in Delhi. Dr. Kalyan Bannerjee, opposite Shiv Mandir, Chittaranjan Park, New Delhi-110019. He has cured several patients having similar problems. His charges for consultation are Rs.350/ per visit + medicines. Please visit him once and see for yourself that you are cured for ever.

Have your creatinine checked. Could be you are diabetic or have kidney failure or both.

How can you have an elevated heart rate, yet the BP is going down? -

I have been on medication for hypertension...and it has been working. However, my resting heart rate has remained elevated (90-92) even though I have been taking valium (only once per day). I was interested in any insight.

Heart rate is the speed in which the heart beats per minute. Having a rate of 90 at rest is not good. You should talk to your doc to get that down with beta blockers or calcium channel blockers. I am not sure if valium is the right med. Blood Pressure is the pressure in which the blood travels through our body. Usually high blood pressure and increased heart rate go together, like your case. Treating one does not treat the other.

Actually, increasing the heart rate is the body s response to low blood pressure. If your blood pressure drops, you are not pumping blood around the body efficiently. So, the heart has to increase its workload to make up the difference, it does this by beating faster. Valium is not used to control blood pressure, so I am assuming that you are taking it inconjuction with your BP medication. you might want to speak with your doc and see if he thinks your BP is dropping too low with the medication. He may want to adjust the dosage.

I THINK I HAVE LUPUS (HEREDITARY)? ANYONE HAVE LUPUS? -

I gave birth to twins a year ago and have been having problems with high blood pressure. I have also been experiencing stiffness in my joints, especially my feet and legs. There are days when I am so achy I can barely get out of the bed but I do. I have an older sister that was diagnosed with Lupus and hypertension after she gave birth. Is it possible this is what I am experiencing. I know I need to go back to my doctor, but was just wondering if anyone has these symptoms and has Lupus?

Your symptoms could definitely be Lupus as usually the first presenting signs are stiff/sore joints. However, just because a relative has Lupus doesn t really increase your chances of having it. In fact, very few people who have Lupus actually have a blood relative with the illness. I would go to the doctor and tell them what you suspect and have them run tests. Even though there is no specific test for Lupus they can help narrow down a diagnosis, especially if they find something other than Lupus in your blood work that can explain what is going on. I wish you the best of luck.

1.) I would go and see your doctor because if there is a family history of Lupus in your family then you should get it checked out. I found this website that explained some of the stiffness. Apparently it is a common thing after giving birth especially if you are not getting enough calcium,. this helps

I have a mother and a niece with lupus and even though there are members of both sides of the family with it my daughter was told that she doesn t have an increased change of developing it. But the symptoms that they had are among other things a butterfly rash on their face, Swelling of the joints especially the ankles and the hands. Trouble breathing and an increase in problems with the kidneys. There is an enzyme that shows up in the blood for people with lupus ask your doctor to run a blood test and to look for it. IF you do have it having a child could have caused it to flare. Most young women and girls are told not to get pregnant with lupus as the pregnancy can cause things to get complicated really quickly. As for the high blood pressure there is usually a sign of that before children are born especially with twins. If you had problems with blood pressure during the pregnancy that s what started things off for you. Make sure that you watch the amount of sodium you consume every day and exercise as much as possible. Eat food High in potassium which helps regulate blood pressure naturally. Foods like Seaweed, sunflower seeds, wheat germ, almonds, raisins, parsley, Brazil nuts, lettuce, lamb, endive, radishes, Chinese cabbage, dandelion root, dill, These first ones are the highest in potassium the next list is very good in potassium but not as high as the first list. Since 1 month i have very bad pain on my right and left thumbs, too difficult to catch a grip of anything.? -

any opinion whats going on with me. by the way im diabetic and have hypertension..

I am not a medical professional. But, I have heard of poor circulation causing the sensations that you describe as a result of diabetes. It can t hurt to have a neurological exam. If this problem has been constant for one month then it is time to seek out a professional opinion. A basic neurological exam only takes about 5 minutes. They will test your reflexes and sensitivity as related to each point on the spinal cord. Only if they find a problem will you be advised to have an MRI done on the region that might have some nerve damage. If this is the case, time really is important. Every day that nerve tissue is deprived of oxygen, your chances of permanent damage increase. Also, try to be patient because these tests and differing opinions might take some time to get going. At the same time, if there is nerve damage you want to get treatment. If something else is causing the problem then it is probably best to get a diagnosis as soon as you can. Nerve damage will not magically fix itself. The symptoms can come and go as the brain maps out alternate routes leading the person to think the problem is gone. But, in reality the problem would be getting worse and the symptoms will be more severe during each flare-up.

Prolly wanna get that checked out some diabetics have pain in there limbs and then have them amputated because they waited to long.

Hi everyone iam a 29 year old mother of one.after having my son i started having severe chest pains with sob ? -

radiating to both of my arms.i have had hypertension since the age of 20.upon going to the hospital was diagnosed with sub-aortic stenosis that should ve been caught at birth.shortly after that i applied for SSD because the chest pains are so severe iam dependent on nitroglycerin. after that i underwent open heart surgery to repair my birth defect in sept.06.in 07 i started having fainting spells.had an echo and found out the left side of my heart was enlarged, moderate aortic regurge, mild tricuspid regurge and mild pulmonary hypertension.was told by specilist that my aortic valve will have to be replaced and my birth defect was slowly coming back. went to a physiological eval and axis ii is major depression and anxiety disorders.i originally applied for ssd in dec 05 and my hearing is scheduled for dec 08.my question is what should i expect?

I am not an expert at this, so don t take only my opinion. I know a couple of people that applied for this. I think they just read their decision, and you don t even need to be there. You got through the dr. appointments, hopefully showing that you are not faking and really can t work/ need to be on disability. Heart problems are serious, so hopefully you will get it, but being young and likely to be on disability for quite a few years (as opposed to someone who is over 50) can count against you. Hopefully you got 2 dr s to both say that you need this and are disabled enough not to work.

could be heart burn

Hi: I got really sick after the birth of my daughter, however I was 41, Still not old. I had get my ssdi, for depression, because thats what Drs. saw until my condition started to appear on the echo and ct scans. I think YOU will definately get it, I applied in late 05, but because I was recieving minor $ from my job, they only went back 2 years. But if you do not have an attorney, unfortunately, get one, although we both deserve it w/o an attorney!!

E MAIL WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A CHAT WITH YOU

Bloodpressure...............................? -

I ve got 150/90 readings both times at my GP panning between 2 months. But i ve just got myself a blood pressure monitor cuff wrist and i got a reading of around 110+/60+ on multiple tried. So.... is my monitor inaccurate or do i have white coat hypertension?...lolol i do feel funny going doctor.

is your gp still monitoring your b/p? mine did over a certain period of time i had to go fortnightly to be sure that it wasn t white coat syndrome which is quite common. make a note of your b/p readings and at what time you take it and try to do it the same time every time and take these with you next time you go i monitor mine at home but to be honest i d go with my gp after all they are trained better than me

Probably both! The blood pressure monitors that you can buy (particularly the ones that are electronic and fit around the writst) are notoriously innacurate. Particularly if the same reading keeps coming up if you do it over and over again when checking. It is very common for blood pressure to rise when you are in a doctor s office or a hospital. People are stressed and worry about the resulting reading and PRESTO! Worry and stress cause blood pressure to go up. The reading is not terrible at the doctors. She/He is aware. Listen to their advice! And don t take your BP with the machine more than once a week! Try taking the machine with you to the doctors and use it directly after they have done your blood pressure accurately. Compare the readings.

There is a growing consensus and two recent medical trials that suggest that the value of an office reading is to determine which patients should follow their blood pressure at home. The two units that have been used in studies are those which are placed on the upper arm: the Omron and the RelyOn. Unfortunately - we have no data on whether or not wrist monitors are accurate. In your home blood pressure readings are accurate and reproducible at a level of 110/060 mm Hg then you have nothing to worry about. I wish you the very best of health and may God Bless.

The next time that you go to the doctor, take your cuff monitor with you and test it against his. If it matches his readings then you have white coat hypertension. If it doesn t then it s your monitor.

Only one way to find out. Take your monitor to your doctor s office and have them compare it with theirs.

1) Less may mean more. For people who sleep under seven hours a night, the fewer zzzz s they get, the more obese they tend to be, according to a 2006 Institute of Medicine report. This may relate to the discovery that insufficient sleep appears to tip hunger hormones out of whack. Leptin, which suppresses appetite, is lowered; ghrelin, which stimulates appetite, gets a boost. 2) You re more apt to make bad food choices. A study published this week in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine found that people with obstructive sleep apnea or other severely disordered breathing while asleep ate a diet higher in cholesterol, protein, total fat, and total saturated fat. Women were especially affected. 3) Diabetes and impaired glucose tolerance, its precursor, may become more likely. A 2005 study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine found that people getting five or fewer hours of sleep each night were 2.5 times more likely to be diabetic, while those with six hours or fewer were 1.7 times more likely. 4) The ticker is put at risk. A 2003 study found that heart attacks were 45 percent more likely in women who slept for five or fewer hours per night than in those who got more. 5) Blood pressure may increase. Obstructive sleep apnea, for example, has been associated with chronically elevated daytime blood pressure, and the more severe the disorder, the more significant the hypertension, suggests the 2006 IOM report. Obesity plays a role in both disorders, so losing weight can ease associated health risks. 6) Auto accidents rise. As stated in a 2007 report in the New England Journal of Medicine, nearly 20 percent of serious car crash injuries involve a sleepy driver—and that s independent of alcohol use. 7) Balance is off. Older folks who have trouble getting to sleep, who wake up at night, or are drowsy during the day could be 2 to 4.5 times more likely to sustain a fall, found a 2007 study in the Journal of Gerontology. 8) You may be more prone to depression. Adults who chronically operate on fumes report more mental distress, depression, and alcohol use. Adolescents suffer, too: One survey of high school students found similarly high rates of these issues. Middle schoolers, too, report more symptoms of depression and lower self-esteem. 9) Kids may suffer more behavior problems. Research from an April issue of the Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine found that children who are plagued by insomnia, short duration of sleeping, or disordered breathing with obesity, for example, are more likely to have behavioral issues like attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. 10) Death s doorstep may be nearer. Those who get five hours or less per night have approximately 15 percent greater risk of dying—regardless of the cause—according to three large population-based studies published in the journals Sleep and the Archives of General Psychiatry.

More (amp; longer term)studies need to be done, but current studies do indicate a connection of sleep patterns to basic health!

i only read the irst one, but yes it is true...if you don t get enough sleep, you gain weight faster and easier

yes. chronic lack of sleep can cause you big problems.

HELP!! Im 17 and I think I have high blood pressure!!? -

I just checked it and it was 148 over 80!! The doctors think I am at risk for hypertension!! Hypertension runs in my family X( what should I do???

Eat a healthy diet low in sodium. Get daily exercise, even walking helps. Do not smoke. Check your blood pressure often, even if you are at Walmart or the mall, they usually have blood pressure check points. Remember that it will be a little higher after any kind of exercise, even just walking. Rest for about 5 minutes or so before taking your BP for a better reading. Get regular check ups with your doctor. Being nervous or upset can also cause a high reading. Lots of people get good readings at home or else where and then have higher readings at the doctors. It is caused by nerves. And good for you for being concerned enough to do something about it. Many your age would not even pay enough attention to worry about it.

Check it again a couple of times, at rest, and it ll probably be normal. As a matter of fact, 148/80 is very normal if you aren t at rest. If it s OK for a couple of more checks, then you should probably keep an eye on it (maybe a couple of times a year) but there s no point in getting all worked up over a single reading in which only the systolic was high.

you gotta cut down on salt, caffeine, and dont overload your body with water. it s uncommon for young adult to have hypertension, however black people are at higher risk so its good you re thinking about it early. don t start smoking! and keep a healthy diet with omega 3 and 6 oils (fish oils) and without fatty foods.

Talk to your doctor, not people on the internet. Also, ask to see a Nutritionist so that you consume foods to keep you where you should be bp wise. Stay active, don t ever smoke. But seriously kiddo, speak with your doctor.

eat healthy, cut down on salty, processed foods, be at a healthy weight and don;t drink, don t smoke. Take calcium, multivitamins, and hawthorne. If these don;t help, the doctor might prescribe medication to keep it under control.

well my grandma had it and then started eatin organic foods and reversed it..

I feel helpless and alone? -

im 22 weeks pregnant with my second... i have chronic hypertension and ive had it since i was 10 er so.. its putting me at a high risk for preeclampsia and gestational diabetes... its so bad that i have to go to the doctor every week and if they think it is neccessary they are going to hospitalize me...on top of all my worries i have a terrible pain in the back of my upper leg... (anyone know what that pain could be?)... and all this stress and worrying is causing me to have frequent headaches to the point of dizziness and pain... im just so worried that something is going to go wrong and that im going to be hospitalized and have to leave my poor 2 1/2 year old son behind.. im scared that im going to die or something because of all these complications... my poor fiance doesnt understand....he just fears raising 2 children by himself when he works anywhere from 10-16 hours a day 5-6 days a week... im just so worried... im just looking for peoples experiences...and hopefully some

My daughter had very difficult pregnancies. You just need to stay off you feet as much as possible and drink water as much as you can..at least 6 glasses daily. I know that it is hard to stay off your feet with a 2 1/2 year old. Just take it easy on yourself and don t push too hard on getting strenuous thing done. Take care and try not to worry so much because that is also bad on the baby. Being pregnant the second time does seem a little more frightening because you pretty much know what to expect.

you really need to see a doctor who will give you pills to calm down and relaxed. being stressed while pregant is not ideal.

Please go see your doctor on this maybe they can help you

Do you have an idea of what neurological disorder could cause this? -

Two years ago, I started having HORRIBLE headaches. I had one so bad that my vision went completely black for about 30 seconds and then came back in. I went to my doctor, and my blood pressure was 180/100. Until this point, it had always been about 120/70. I have a history of cholesteatomas in my ears, so they immediately sent me for an MRI, thinking I might have had a brain infection. The MRI showed some brain scarring that is abnormal for my age. (I was 22 then.) Sent to a neurologist, who then ordered a Lumbar Puncture. A tumor was ruled out. They suspected Multiple Sclerosis, but couldn t find enough evidence to support it. I can t remember the exact wording, but they found some type of protein that was much higher than normal. I ll go find out and add it in an edit. They said that whatever it was wasn t a common find with MS, but more common in B Cell Brain Tumors or brain infection, though neither were discovered. Because my spinal pressure reading was a lot higher than it should have been, they diagnosed me as having Intercranial hypertension (also known as pseudotumor cerebi.) My neurologist was convinced still that it was MS, and wanted to start me on injections - but I didn t think enough evidence supported it. They put me on a brain diuretic to relieve the spinal fluid pressure in my brain. The horrible daily headaches went away. My blood pressure remained elevated - ranging each day between 150 - 190 for my top number, but rarely going below that. Several medication attempts wouldn t lower my BP, and they just assumed (since I m overweight), that I d developed hypertension. Though my headaches became better, I still suffered with migraines on a weekly basis. They put me on pain medicine for relief as I didn t get any help from things like imitrix. Over the last year, my headaches have greatly slowed down. I ve been off the brain diuretic for awhile, because of side effects, and haven t redeveloped the pseudotumor symptoms. And I notice now that my blood pressure has returned to normal without medication. It s staying around 110-120/60-70 ... and has for about 3 months. So though my neurologist still thinks I should be labeled with quot;hypertensionquot;, I believe the BP was related to an undiscovered neurological disorder. I also think the intercranial hypertension was a symptom of something rather than the problem itself, as other neurological problems existed after that was corrected. Does anyone have a clue what this may sound like? I know this is a lot of information... but I m curious. Whatever it was, it went away on its own after 2 years. If I had MS, it would worsen, not disappear. And other than a questionable LP (well, 2) that didn t quite match with the diagnosis and some dymelianation in the brain, nothing else relates back to the possible multiple sclerosis diagnosis.

Could it have been some kind of virus that ran its course and that your body in time became immune to? I don t know why, but the word Lupus popped into my mind. Yours was certainly a unique experience, and most frustrating and perplexing. I m glad that you have made it through that horrible time - hope it never comes back in any way!

try and find information on quot;ADEMquot; sound like this! Report Abuse

I dont think anything is wrong with your brain. What you have typed in your question takes a reasonable IQ, and also having the want to find answers is a healthy sign. I do suggest though, YOU have to find out whats wrong and seek a remedy. No individual doctor, or neurologist can sort this out. The reason is that those specialists are so narrow in their field of expertise, and so ignorrant in seeking help from other professions, that failure is the only result that is possible in your case. I want you to think back to a year before these headaches first occurred. Was you in any sort of accident, or minor head bump like bumping when raising up, or walking into something high, that could have kinked your neck. A neck injury, although no big deal at the time, can cause headaches, mood swings and even migraine headaches. These symptons may take a year to 3 years to develope. So think back, Or you could have bad neck alignment from bad posture. Laying with head kinked to the side watching TV is a neck kinker. I suggest to go to a Chiropractor, a reputable one that uses Xrays. I suggest to enquire among family and friends for a recommendation. I suggest one around 30 years old that has keen medical knowledge is what you want. Take this in mind if you think your neck is traumastised. 1. use a chiro regularly for 6 months to get the bones align, budget 10 visits then a few per year. 2. use a remedial massage therapist to loosen the muscles that hold the bones in place, so that they dont pull on the bones (applys to all of your spine) Budget 3 visits 3. After 6 months and at the end of all the activity from the chiro, and massagist, see a doctor for a 3 months antiflammatory course to settle down any inflamed soft tissue, to strenghten the areas of concern. When seeing these people you need to tell them your story, I wish you luck, but remember, YOU have to fix it. No individual profession will take control of it and tell you to see the other, you have to do that.

If you have not resolved the pain, read this: and check out Dr. Aaron Fillers videos on youtube. My husband has been dealing with this for 2 years and no one has a solution. We hope to see Dr Filler in Jan 2009. Report Abuse

If you are constipated, it can be impacted feces on your system which is causing all the combined complications. You need to do a detox of flush that will help alleviate everything before you take all those medicine. Another is go have an enema. Trust me its worth it than going to the hospital.

Sounds like sciatica all right. I recommend that you see a chiropractor. Helps alleviate the pain without any drugs.

hey its leanne-sorry I havent emailed you back but me and my son have been sick and today im going to be outof town thats why i was checking my email for my classes but to answer your question you need to call your doctor because I believe ive read that severe back pain and weight loss could be something more serious- i dont want to worry you because i know what thats like but play it safe and talk to your doctor-plus if you cant take pain killers maybe he can perscribe something--I ll try and email you tonight when i get back ...hope it works out.... but hey ive been there with the back pain and if its serious enough my doctor perscribes something

Leg swelling? -

i found this article that summarized the cause of leg swelling still not answering my mother problem(60yrs). I m quite worry with statements of quot;Swollen legs may be a sign of heart failure, kidney failure, or liver failurequot;. But early this year she went to cardiologist , and dr early investigation said everything is fine. Few months back, her lab checking found nothing harm after checking her urine. And last year, she went for medical checkup that did not find anything about her liver. Due to hypertension, she consumed 10mg of norvacs which according to the article may cause swelling leg as well. Her swelling leg will come on and off. But definitely will have it for long journey trip. Now, I am confused since i bring her to few dr s and none of them point out the cause neither give specific receipts for this. I am not sure about water pills is, and what s its side effect, and if it possibly could help her? Please help

If you take water pills you need to replace the potassium. bananas are a good source but the best is in vitamin form. She should keep h legs up, eat low sodium foods and drinks, drink lots of water.

if she is on high blood presure meds they could cause it.she prb needs water pills to keep the fluid off.and eat no salt. however im no doctor .check with him or her

my doctor had to change my hypertension medicine because I was swelling so much. especially when i was in the car driving. I take water pills and potassium supplements. my doctor also said drink plenty of fluids. With water he also suggested that a little salt although not alot can be helpful in reducing the swelling. Since I have started doing this and taking time in my journies to stop and walk some before traveling on my swelling has been reduced considerably. maybe this will work for your mother. best of luck.

PLEASE, do NOT, under any circumstances give her water pills! They are dangerous and, even though they work at times, mask the underlying problem. Your mom could be retaining water or she might have poor circulation and/or phlebitis which can cause blood clots. The swelling she experiences are not necessarily related to her heart at all. There are many reasons for swelling and it s best that her primary physician is alerted to this and the frequency of the swelling. Long journeys, especially by airplane cause many, many peoples legs to swell and so does sitting in a car for a long time or any mode of transportation that puts you in a seated legs down position. Conversely standing all day can do the same thing. Her age shouldn t be a great factor unless there is something major going on which, from your description and her testing results do not seem to be the case. Ask your mom to speak to her primary physician and see if he ll refer her to a vein specialist. They can perform ultrasound testing right in the office which will tell them if the blood is flowing properly or not. Please ask her to elevate her legs as often as possible when sitting. While lying in bed if she can elevate them above her torso (heart) by propping them up on pillows from the knee down, it will alleviate the condition to some degree. Make some notes on how often they swell, if they are painful to the touch and what time of day this begins so you can give the doctor a heads up. Good luck!

definately get her a 64 slice ct scan of the heart. If she didn t have that done the cadiologist can t know for sure.! sure she is drinking enough. Elevate her legs when she is resting. Ask the dos about support hose. Get second, third or 4th opinions.

Your mom needs the water pill. I have HBP, too, and a water pill helps me substantially. TX Mom not an expert

Ice bath might help?
