Can a tumor develop after Diagnosis of Psuedo-tumor? -

I suffer from a neurological condition called psedo-tumor cerebri, also called Intracranial hypertension. Basically, my body thinks that I have a brain tumor, when I really don t. It causes my spinal fluid to increase, which gives me headaches. 4 months ago, my Dr. gives me a clean bill of health. That my PTC had gone into remission. During that time, no headaches or any of my symptoms. But two weeks ago, I started having the symptoms again. Headaches, trouble sleeping, weakness, etc. In two weeks time, I have completely regressed back to how I was before treatment. this has really scared me. Everything was so good, but all of a sudden..boom. Could a brain tumor have developed since my original diagnosis? My last MRI was two years ago. Is it possible a tumor had developed since then? Because this happened awful quick, when it took months the first time to get this bad. I want only questions with professional medical opinion. Experienced answerers only. Thanks.

I know you are only looking for professional medical opinions, but I think I can help. It is important to get a CT scan, an MRI or PET if your doctor thinks it would be better. Also an EEG, sleeping and awake could be helpful. There is a slim possibity that a tumor or anurism could form in two years time, even with a neuroligist near by. If your nero does not take your concerns seiously, consiter getting a second oppinion. I have seen four different neuros, switching for different reasons. The fear of the unknown is severe, so be sure to get an answer and consiter joining a support group even if you are completly healthy. The return of symptoms after a reprieve is horific, I know from experience, but keep up hope.

Chest pains in a 16 year old? -

I am a 16 year old female who is 5 5 and weights 128 lb. Just recently I ve been experiencing chest pain right above my rib cage and on my sternum. It s more of an aching pain and it s kind of sharp. I have a history of mitral valve prolapse, heart murmur, and hypertension. I am intending on seeing my doctor (no, I m not going to be stupid and leave something that could be serious up to Yahoo! Answers) but I m just looking for a quick answer as to what it may be. Thanks. :)

It might be stress...that sometimes causes chest pains in that area.

hun, it dosen t matter if you re only 14 or 74, ANYONE can get MVP, my boyfriend is only 24, and he has it Report Abuse

You know it could be anything from stress to heart burn or even growing pains. good luck at the Dr

MVP is most likely cause. I d get an echocardiogram just to make sure nothing else is going on in the heart. An ekg would be helpful also, as well as a chest xray. In girls your age often it s caused by anxiety.

Growing pain. Specially if we are talking a more than average height person this happens a lot. On the other hand it could be a bruised rib. This does affect your sternum and healing may take as much as 6 weeks, painful weeks.

Yes, go see your doctor as soon as possible, it could be something as serious as a heart or valve problem, or it could be from anxiety, stress or growing pains. He/She will know what it is by running a few tests. In the meantime just breathe, meditate and/or pray, and relax. This will help ease the pain. Also try to think positive thoughts. This will also help, remove all negative thoughts and vibes from you, it will help you to heal.

Research problem related to maternity nursing ? -

Problems related to abortion, gestation, breast feeding, breast cancer, cervical cancer, hypertension.

just what is the actual question?? i had cervical cancer, i have hypertension, i had an abortion.

Having the same problem figuring out what the question is! Have had 6 pregnancies (5 miscarriages), cervical cancer and I am hypertensive, I also have cardio myopathy and diabetes. Does any of that help?

What happened to me,what could it have been? -

i just finshed eating lunch in a resturant with my family the other day,and when i was finshed i went to the bathroom, feeling a bit flushed i looked in the mirror and my whole face and neck was red and looked like i had a rash(but it was not a rash)and i felt very very hot in the face,i was thinking maybe it was my blood presure creeping up (getting high) i have essential hypertension, and i am 31 weeks pregnant,i had pre-eclampsia with my first pregnancy, just wondering does this sound like it is blood pressure related or not? i was not hot(it s winter here) the food did not make me get an allergy, i just ate plain food that i normally eat. and the A.C was on in the resturant. i was not nervous or stressed or anything, just fine,so why would i get all hot and flushed for no reason, this happens pretty regulary, not just when i eat.even when im at rest(lying down etc) i will ask my doc at next appt. but just wondering what u guys think it might have been..

with your history of pre-eclampsia it probably is blood pressure or circulation related. I would call the office tomorrow and tell them, they may want you to come in to check it out.

if its not an allerghy then maybe some negative reactions of your body, remember you are pregnanat and pregnat women are very sensitive so take care of your self, you shoul consult the doctor about it

almost sounds like a quot;hot flashquot; that a menopausal woman would experience, which are caused by hormonal flucuations. Bet yours are caused by hormonal fluctuations also, but don t know the meaning of them in relation to pregnancy. You should call your doctor, I think, just to be sure.

It is very difficult to find out the reason for this. Since you are 31 weeks pregnant, it is better to consult your doctor as early as possible since this has been happening to you frequently.

Can a charity help me?i require machine to check my warfrin.Id do something for charity am i allowed too? -

I have a terminall illness, and theres nothing that can be done for me. I was born with a hole in my heart, and i was sent to hospital age 4yrs with my parents, but the professor didnt see anything and sent me home.So because the hole in my heart wasnt detected i then collapsed at 21years old where i suffered no oxygen going to my brain as the blood flow was going right to left through chambers of heart and not going to lungs to produce oxygen to my brain. When consultants took tests to consider closing the hole in the heart they discovered i also had primary pulmonary hypertension also known as Eisenmenger Syndrome(you can check this online if want to know more). Then i was told i wouldnt live a matter of weeks, i was told also id never have children as it would kill me and my child, but 8yrs ago on 26/8/99 i gave birth to my boy 5months early weighing 2lb-2oz.Id love to do things for him but on warfrin i cant tavel i require blood tests every 2/4days.Machine i need is £399.im 34yrs old

You can post your request in the url given below: will definitely sort out your problem. Don t forget to register.

these test would include tests for diabetes, hypertension, anemia, liver and kidney function amp;infectious disease? keep in mind that medicare is paying for all of these tests. is this proposition a good one or a bad one?

It is absolutely necessary for these tests to be part of routine screening!

Yes they should all be covered. Very Good!

My mom has little to no circulation in fer fingers. They turn totally white or purple and a sore will not heal? -

She has been to several doctors and various diseases have been discussed. No diagnosis has been made. Her fingers are in extreme pain. They have discovered that she has pulminary hypertension that may or may not be related. Everyone agrees that besides they underlying reason for the problems with her fingers, something must be done a.s.a.p or she could lose them. There is also concern that this could progress upward. HELP!! I don t know where else to look for someone to diagnose and treat her.

Sounds like diabetes.

Sounds like Scleroderma compare their website symptoms to your mom s. Good Luck, Report Abuse

White fingers indicate a complete LACK of blood circulation. Red or purple would imply that the blood is getting into the fingers but gettin out and therefore pooling. This sounds like a Raynauds disease as she is getting both. Hormonal imbalances, smoking, neck trauma may all lead to this condition..even high blood pressure. If this is something chemically based or heart and lungs based...both hands would be affected almost equally. If this condition is independant of her heart, hormones, smoking...one hand may only be affected. In this case neck, shoulder or elbow mechanics may be flawed. A delay in the healing of a sore indicates a lack of blood flow that is suffiecient to heal. Steroids may also slow healing...is she getting inhaler treatments?

are her hands also cold? Has she been checked for Raynaud s phenomenon Raynaud s is an extreme spasm of blood vessels in response to cold or stress. The fingers and/or toes become white and/or blue, and may become red on re-warming.It can also cause ischemic skin lesions(sores) RN dallas

was she tested for lupus or rheanoides (spelled wrong i m sure)

Raynauds Phenomenon.... Intermittent attacks of pallor or cyanosis of the small arteries of the fingers as the result of inadequate arterial blood flow this condition is associated with scleroderma, systemic lupus, Buerger;s disease nerve entrapment and anorexia bulemia. It causes painful hands that can turn white to blue to purple because of decreased circulation it is painful and hands tend to feel cold all of the time

this probably sounds dumb but could it be frostbite? Or maybe its gangrene my grandmother had hypertension and some kind of gangrene was setting into her legs they said they would take her legs if it didnt get better so maybe it is in direct connection with her hypertension.

My uncle has 7.8 creatinine level. doctors r helpless reducing it. Any cure? plz its urgent? -

he is also having hypertension.

My guess is that he has severe kidney disease and may need dialysis and/or a transplant. More info would be helpful.

is your uncle on dialysis? a creatinine that high would indicate kidney failure, and if he is already on dialysis, then there really isn t much more the doctor s can do, the kidneys are dieing and when they do your uncle will too.

Does Rogaine (minoxidil) decrease blood pressure as side effect? -

Minoxidil is a hypertension (high blood pressure) medication when taken orally. If applied topically for hair loss, it should also have some effect on lowering BP. Has this been studied, or can anyone provide some info on the relationship between topical use and blood pressure?

According to WebMD it was originally used to treat high blood pressure. Here is what they had to say: quot;Minoxidil was originally used to treat high blood pressure. It is now also used to treat inherited hair loss (androgenetic alopecia), the most common cause of hair loss, as well as for other causes of hair loss.quot; If you ever have any doubts on OTC meds ask the pharmacists they usually know about side effects and medication interactions and problems like that. http://www.webmd.com/hw/hair_loss/aa1534...

Effects for BP are better if taken in oral tablets. Topical has only weak amp; inconsistent effects this way.

According to the MayoClinic, if the scalp is sunburned or irritated, too much can be absorbed and cause problems. They also have a warning about it for people with high blood pressure. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/drug-in...

Who has experience with a C-pap machine? -

My husband just had 2 sleep study tests. From the data of these tests, it was decided that he must use this machine for the rest of his life! It seems these things are supposed to treat hypertension, prevent strokes and all manner of ills. He is in the third week and is still having trouble getting used to it. Anyone have any comments or input. Thank you in advance.

I have been using one since 1993. In two weeks my BP meds were halved. My BP went down, my body regained strength and I am still alive. My heart had enlarged tremendously and this C-PAP helped to lower my BP and my heart Atrophied back to normal. I had the worse Acid Reflux when I went to sleep and this fixed that proplem the first night. All in all. . .get a mask that he will get use to. . .it does help. . .Good luck Nurse Tina, the C-Pap machines today are very quiet. The mask should not be tight and the mask should not blow in anyones face. Sleep aids such as meds can be dangerous to people with obstructive Sleep Apnea, as this can cause the air passage way to close completely while sleeping, and prevent the patient from awakening to reposition their throat and open the airway. So see a doctor before using any sleep aids with this condition.

I am a nurse, and quite a few of my patients come into the hospital with their own CPap machines. There are are nasal masks and full face masks. Suprisingly I see people have more problems with the nasal mask. Here is a list of possible remedies I found online: The mask feels uncomfortable. Because everyone s face has a different shape, you may need to try different masks to find one that fits you well. Your nose feels dry and stuffy. You can try using a humidifier to moisten the air from the CPAP device. Your nose feels blocked up. Some people who have sleep apnea also have nose problems. Ask your doctor if you have a nose problem that can be treated with a nasal spray. Surgery is sometimes also an option. People who breathe through their mouths don t do as well with CPAP nose masks. A full-face mask that covers both the nose and the mouth may help these people The mask bothers your skin and nose. Because the mask must fit firmly over your nose and cheeks, it may irritate your skin. A different size or kind of mask may help. There are also special skin moisturizers made for CPAP device users. Some petroleum-based products can damage the mask, so ask your doctor for more information. Some people also benefit from using nasal pillows that fit into the nostrils and relieve pressure on the bridge of the nose (see the picture below). Using a regular CPAP mask one night and nasal pillows the next night may help you feel more comfortable. The mask leaks air. Some people can t keep their jaw closed while wearing the mask. A chin strap can help hold up your jaw to keep the air in You don t like the pressure. You may find that breathing out against the air pressure keeps you from sleeping deeply. Your doctor may ask you to use a bi-level machine that lowers the air pressure when you breathe out. The same mask may be used with CPAP and bi-level machines. You take the mask off during your sleep or don t wear it every night. Most people can t wear the mask all night long, every night, right from the start. Keep trying, even if you can only use the mask for an hour a night at first. Once you solve your comfort problems, you should be able to increase the time you wear the mask. You just can t get used to the mask. Some people find that wearing a dental device that pushes their tongue forward helps. You may want to talk with your doctor about whether throat or jaw surgery could help.

There s really no easy way to adjust to this, as it s loud, and annoying with the air blowing in your face from a really tight mask. Maybe a sleep aid would work to help him relax during the sleep process.

Well I have not heard that a CPAP machine can prevent stokes, but I know it can help you lose weight. There are other types of masks out there ask your doctor. if there aren t any other mask styles available maybe a sleep aid could help, or a muscle relaxer such as Lorazapam.

I had a friend who needed this thing... CPAP machines make sure you have enough oxygen to live through the night, basically... Use it, and be happy it helps, but make sure you understand how you can STOP using this Machine! Usually weight loss or other means can help you overcome the need for this intrusive monster... Talk to your doctor and find out what can be done to overcome this treatment...

There is an alternative out there. They can do surgery on the inside of your throat to tighten up the quot;skinquot;. But that is expensive, and you will have a hard time finding a doctor to approve it, unless the CPAP doesn t work for you. The best way to get off the CPAP machine legitimately, is to lose weight, sometimes quite a bit. Then you may no longer need it. If you do not use the CPAP machine, your lungs become acidic, and this can cause all sorts of problems with your heart and circulatory system. Not using a CPAP machine is a good way to die in your sleep, if that s what you want. Don t worry, he ll get used to the mask, and he can try new masks that fit and feel better. He ll even get to the point where he can t sleep without one! But definately get the humidifier that goes along with it. One bad thing about them: you can t use when you have a stuffy nose. Sleep apnea can kill you, so you better follow your doctors advice.

hi, i ve worked with CPAP machines before, i am not sure about using it to prevent hypertension or stroke, i ve never heard of it. all i know is that it prevents the patient from apnea (not breathing) during sleep. i do believe however that this might be contraindicated among patients diagnosed with COPD because of the pressure applied. expect your husband to experience some discomfort during the first few weeks of using the machine. is your husband overweight? that is one of the main reasons why a person would have sleep apnea. if a patient has been advised to lose weight, it doesn t necessarily mean that the sleep apnea will go away, but he needs to get tested again (in the sleep lab) if his breathing improves during sleep. most likely, it s permanent, but there are cases when a patient improved and was taken out of the machine. i think the discomfort is the least thing you should worry about. it s better than not breathing at all.

Obstructive sleep apnea destroyed my ability to sleep deeply (and dream) for many years before I went for sleep studies. The impressive snoring that went along with the OSA impaired my wife s ability to sleep anywhere near me. I have been using a CPAP device for 11 months now. At first I had some trouble getting comfortable with the mask and the sensation of constant air pressure, but I adjusted in less than a week. The CPAP device has made an astonishing difference for both of us. I wear one of the nasal masks that leaves most of my face uncovered. The CPAP unit I have is very quiet; its volume is lower than most of the quot;white noisequot; generators I ve heard. I now sleep deeply. I ve stopped feeling tired or drowsy all of the time. I no longer snore! This last has been a great help to my marriage ;-). A couple of suggestions for your spouse. If the mask is uncomfortable, make sure it is properly fitted. If it is, then encourage your husband to keep trying other styles to find one that works. Keep the mask clean, especially the part that touches his face. In addition, he should cleanse his face before putting the mask on at night. Finally, make sure the straps that hold the mask to his face follow the Mama Bear Principle: Not Too Tight (torture!) and not Too Loose (it s windy!) but Juuuuust Right. Good luck. Regarding the relationship between weight and OSA. I am sure there is a positive correlation but people with OSA are not necessarily overweight. Losing weight is probably a good idea for most of us -- it certainly is for me -- whether one has OSA or not.

Would internal bleeding of any sort lend itself to low or quot;normalquot; blood-pressure? -

If one has quot;normalquot; blood-pressure, but had a history of high blood-pressure (and virtually every risk factor associated with hypertension), is it possible that an ulcer, or worse, an aneurysm, could be festering? THX. -g.

High Blood Pressure tends to promote internal bleeding and aneurysms. Internal bleeding directly leads to low blood pressure, as soon as these happens, internal body mechanisms start with normalization process (carotid body and so on) by vasoconstriction. In an individual with initial high blood pressure; the normalization brings back the high blood pressure.

Some answers already there are no good! Yes, serious internal bleeding can cause low blood pressure. A low blood pressure, within acceptable limits, is healthy! It should go up after exercise though. You should not think about this too much until you have better knowledge of physiology. Ask a nurse or med tech if you do not ask a doctor. If you had high BP and now it is normal, that is good!!! If you are on antihypertensive med, it is working.

although BP, medical history and lifestyle factors are a big part... you also need to look at cholestrol. Anyeurysm are cause by a vessel bursting due to a blockage over time (plaque build up....weakend vessel...BOOM!) If you are at risk for hypertension and your lifestlye increases that risk, I suggested bi-yearly check-ups and screening.... and patient education to help reduce the risk of a future cut short.

internal bleeding usually causes accute hypotension, if you have chronic ulcer it usually causes anaenmia as opposed to hypotension

I guess it would cause higher blood pressure since your heart needs to work faster due to the loss of blood in your body.

yes, it will lower greatly if internal bleeding..it will bottom out..usually drop to 70 or 80 over 40 ---50 and very dangerous, that is stroke stage....can lead to lite strokes and if the bleeding continues, will cause memory loss due to lite strokes, can also cause loss of mobility.. and death.

Whats wrong with me, going the these details? -

Recenty I have had the following symptoms: irritability, blurred vision, slurred speech, memory lapses / memory Loss, general confusion, hallucinations, hernia, belemia, headache, color blindness, nausea, psychosis, depression, pale skin tone(looking pasty), decreased mental activity, decreased concentration, Decreased ability for the immune system to fight off sickness, Weight gain, increased blood pressure, Aching muscles, Impatience, Slowed reaction time, ADD like symptoms, Yawning, Daytime Naps, Hypertension/Hyperactivity, and dizziness.

Have you been to the Dr? But if I were guessing I would say that you are diabetic. But this is only a guess, you need to be checked out by a dr. asap.

Thank-you for choosing my answer. happy New Year. Report Abuse

I AM NOT SURE BUT YOU CAN CHECK YOUR URIC ACID LEVEL AND SLEEP APNEA TEST,IT MAY DO SOME GOOD FOR YOU. BEST OF LUCK.

sounds like your taking medication. Your like a walking add for a commercial listing off the side effects, yikes.

you definetely need to see a physician.

yes maybe you have GAD. These are the symptoms of GAD which is similar with yours. What Are the Symptoms of GAD? GAD affects the way a person thinks, but the anxiety can lead to physical symptoms, as well. Symptoms of GAD include: Excessive, ongoing worry and tension An unrealistic view of problems Restlessness or a feeling of being quot;edgyquot; Irritability Muscle tension Headaches Sweating Difficulty concentrating Nausea The need to go to the bathroom frequently Tiredness Trouble falling or staying asleep Trembling Being easily startled

I dont know who you buy your drugs from, but you need to find a new dealer that is not trying to kill you.

HONEY GO TO THE HOSPITAL, PLEASE! I ve gone for less. Something is majorly wrong! It depends on your age, if you do drugs or drink(especially if it s excessive), what you ve been eating, and possibly where you ve been. Hallucinations are enough for a doctor to suggest some serious testing and possibly going to the hospital. I know it s terrifying, you may be worried, but you have to go. PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASE... In the spirit of the holidays, please give me and ESPECIALLY yourself a BIG present and get help now. If all the clinics around you are closed, go to the hospital. I don t know how you have made it as long as you have, but it s a miracle you haven t gone completely insane. I can honestly say that even if you get a response on this from a very talented doctor, he will still not be able to diagnose you. You need to go in and get tested for all sorts of things, and hopefully they ll discover what s wrong and be able to help you. If you wait too long it may be too late. PLEASE DO YOURSELF A HUGE FAVOR AND DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET PROFESSIONAL/MEDICAL ATTENTION. My heart goes out to you hun. I ll be sending you all the positive energy I can, but it ll only help if you help yourself! May the White Light of the Holy Spirit bless you.... Try and have some happy holidays, and GOOD LUCK. :X

You have Generalized Anxiety Disorder.

Living with multiple illnesses (fibromyalgia, PKD and others). Peoples thoughts on living ......? -

with illness like these. I m young (34) and have more health issues then someone that is 75. I find it frustrating and draining to deal with everything. I was wondering if people have some thoughts of what you can do to live with the illness i have. Below is a partial list of my illnesses: ~ Fibromyalgia ~ Polycystic Kidney Disease a.k.a (with Hypertension) ~ Barrett s Esophagus ~ arthritis ~ Chronic Depression to name a few. I also have a husband that suffers with Degenerative disc disease, my Children (13 amp; 10) have the PKD that they inherited from me. Please share your thoughts on how you Live/deal with any of the above illness. Thanks

My personal background of chronic pain: endometriosis (have had two surgeries for it so far) and fibromyalgia (since 1995). The fibro wasn t diagnosed until 1999, and before it was i was misdiagnosed with a number of things; one of the misdiagnoses was a potentially fatal autoimmune disorder. I was 23 when that happened, and spent a good six to eight months believing that my life was going to be Shorter and More Miserable than the lives of the people around me. When i found out that what i had was Not A Fatal Condition, it was very much a life-changing event. I had tried a number of highly ineffective coping mechanisms, from alcohol to denial. Eventually i came to realize that this chronic pain is a hidden blessing. I know this sounds completely and totally cheesy, but hear me out. People like you and me have to plan out every single moment of our day. If our hands aren t working right, we wear clothes with zippers instead of buttons. That sort of thing. When we get home from being out (be it work, errands, a walk in the park, whatever), we have to choose between spending time with loved ones (or relaxing by ourselves in some fashion) and going to lie down from exhaustion. Sounds pretty crappy on the surface, i know. But wait for it, it gets better. We live our lives having to make conscious, minute-by-minute decisions regarding our quality of life. While it certainly can be a whopping huge pain in the neck sometimes, it makes us more aware of those little moments... both good and bad. It means that time spent with loved ones is a Choice, not Just Because. We =choose= the lives we have. I ve compared notes with friends who do not have chronic pain issues, and found that most of them don t understand what it s like to truly appreciate the Little Moments in life. Moreover, they seem almost oblivious to them. This is not necessarily true of everyone who has a pain-free daily life... but it s not entirely uncommon. I ve also learned that largely, life is what you make it. I ve wasted no small amount of time moping about the daily pain that travels (and yet it just won t leave!) all over my body with no relief, no respite. I can choose to let it get to me, or i can choose to make the best of what i have. I have to fight more for the things i get, but it makes those things that much sweeter. I can choose to cry about my back going out, or i can find ways to joke and laugh about it. I can t tell you how many chiropractors i ve confused by doing just that! I know it probably sounds hokey, and for that i apologize. But i promise you it s all true. I can only type so much before my hands hurt, and i have =chosen= to type out this huge long thing for you... that s how much it means to me. This life is full of things that we are given, and it s up to use to make the most of them. No one else is going to make our lives Worth It if we don t do it ourselves.

Hello Unicornlover, Living with mulitple illnesses is not easy, especially when there is no cure. But there is treatment for your list of illnesses, so for QUALITY of life issues, you must keep on top of treatment. You must go to doctor appointments often to monitor your illnesses and medicate as needed to control symptoms. Good communication skills will go along way in helping you create a working relationship between you and your doctors. Also, since so many doctors today are into specialities you probably have to be clear on which doctor to call for what kind of symptoms you are having at any given time. It can be frustrating and draining to have a lot of appointments with different specialists when you are not feeling good, but, taking your medications and making it to your doctor s appointments is one of the best things you can do to keep your symptoms controlled and your quality of life all it can be. It helps to have a very good GP (general practitioner) to keep track of all of it. I d like to say a few words about stress. Stress is a known trigger for flare-ups with the Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, and Depression, and has a negative impact on the rest of your health which includes your PKD and Barrett s Esophagus. You have got to look for ways of reducing stress in your life and keeping it to a minimum. With proper management, you could have a decent qualitly of life in spite of your multiple illnesses. Getting your health issues under control has got to be one of your main priorities in life now. If you can get your symptoms under control, you will no longer be needing to wonder how others deal with chronic illnesses. If you have doctors that you are unsatisfied with, change doctors. You have got to be your own best health advocate. Good luck and best wishes! S

Blood Pressure question? -

I have a blood pressure of 158/70 and pulse of 47bpm I am 5 11 159lbs an 18 years old. I know it is in the hypertension 1 category. How could I lower my BP without medication? I am a fairly active person and ride my bike 7-15hrs a week at high speed/effort (18mph ish) and work at a grocery store where I m constantly walking. So i dont think exercising more would help but could be wrong.

Avoid foods that raise blood pressure (salty foods) and eat foods that lower blood pressure (those high in potassium).

Have you modified your diet? No caffeine, (no coffee or tea, no coca cola, no chocolate), the least salt possible and no liquorice. Cut down on bananas and other foods rich in potassium. Also, avoid stress. There are other diet modifications that could help which you can find by googling. If you decide to take any nutritional supplements check with your doctor first because various minerals can affect your blood pressure. A pulse of 47bpm is exceptionally low, are you sure that s right? That s called bradycardia.. unless you actually meant 74, which is perfectly normal! If it is 47 I think you should ask your doctor about it because blood pressure and pulse are related so the situation could be more complicated.

Diet is working for me.

Can Getting Excited Right Before Cause An Cerebral Hemorrhage (Aneurysm)? -

Can Getting Excited Right Before Cause An Cerebral Hemorrhage (Aneurysm) ? My dad had one and had hypertension but we didn t know about it. I was just wondering my dad got excited right before he got dizzy then a bad headache and about 30 mins later lost conciousness and never regained it . I was just wondering if his getting excited might have triggered it? Thank You

No, I believe his other comorbidities were a trigger. His previous medical history, and his genetic make up was greatly linked to this aneurysm.. Bulging aneurysm can put pressure on the nerve or surrounding brain tissue (poss. cause of his dizziness). People who have Cerebral aneurysms usually have a circulatory problem, polycystic kidney disease, or an AVM(arteriovenous malformation). Other causes are HYPERTENSION, tumors, atherosclerosis, head trauma, smoking, and drug abuse. Don t feel singled out--brain aneurysms can happen to anyone, at anytime; usually adults (usually 30-60 years old). A person may have an aneurysm and never know it their entire life, it is only when it bursts that it is dangerous. (loss of consciousness due to bleeding on the brain).

I think it just spontaneously burst. Maybe the excitement did make it burst but maybe it was his hypertension that was putting too much strain on his artery in his head that caused the aneurysm in the first place. Did the doctors ever check him for one?

NICU Nurses!! **HUGS** How do you....? -

How do you do it?!? Help to save so many lives? I could not be a nurse around sick babies. I would get to attached, and take my work home with me. I can t imagine losing a patient. How do you deal with that?!? I gave birth about 9 weeks ago, and had spent about 5 weeks of it with my baby in NICU level 3 do to Persistant Pulmonary Hypertension. The nurses were so great, and they stayed with my sick baby and pampered her night and day. I was a wreck, but they were there to calm me, and love and care for my child. We almost lost her at one point. How do you keep your composure all day? I saw so many sick babies, with so many sad stories... Bless you all!! It takes a special person to do what you do!

I think about all the other patients that have lived because of the care I ve given them. I try to save those in my care with all the newest equipment and knowledge I have, and know that even doing my best will not work all the time. In the end, I get down on my knees and pray for strength to work the next day to a profession that clearly requires a heart full of compassion for the sick and which some times is not fully appreciated by others. So, from a NURSE....Thank you.

WALKING. Basically exercise can help you hypertension as well as the swelling. You blood needs to start flowing better in your extremities. My aunt had this same problem and was on hypertension med too. Doc told her it was due to lack of exercise and sure enough, once she started walking (just around the block even!), her swelling disappeared.

your questions is too vague to actually give you an anser that will do good to your health... and i wouldnt expect you to give the required info off th top of your head... thats why i think you should really see your doctor who can ask you questions face to face... can examine your legs and take the right course of action... dont procrastinate when it comes to health...

soak, massage and elevate.... I m not sure about your medical conditions so that s all I can really offer, anything else is indicisive if it ll actually help. :P

Go see your doctor.

orthopedic socks. elevate your feet above your heart level when possible. soak in epsom salts.

first soak them in warm water and Epsom salt then rest them in a position higher than the rest of your body, feel better!

the one i know about is to relax with your feet up..having them at a level above your heart...this will give you more of an even circulation throughout your body..

Try elevating your feet. But given your history, if that doesn t help, you need to get back in to see your doctor.

Peppermint oil helps. You have to reduce the toxins in your system which easily done if you start having hot water with lemon in it every morning. Adding a lot of lemon to your diet helps too. Other than that.......feet up above your heart and rest!

when you go to bed at night, try to prop up your feet with a pillow under your sheet .........By morning you will see swelling down considerably,,,,,,,,,,,,,,The only problem is if you are on your feet a lot during the day, same thing will have to be done..........Drink water as much as possible....stay of pop or softdrinks..

Can Yogatherapy cure chronic diseases like cancer and AIDS? -

There is lot of research showing positive results in curing Psychosomatic diseases like stress, hypertension, asthma, diabetes etc. Can Yogatherapy cure chronic diseases like cancer and AIDS?

I have heard that a unique relaxation techniquequot;YOGANIDRAquot; is capable of curing chronic diseases like cancer and AIDS by curing through consciousness by using the inner potential of the indiviual.

I don t believe that Yoga can cure cancer or AIDS. I believe that it can help, though. But completely eradicate? Miracles can happen, whatever you attribute them to.

No. I totally agree with the theory that many diseases are caused unconsciously by our state of mind like stress, depression, etc. And that alternative medicine such as yoga, tai chi and meditation can help cure them. But it doesn t apply when were talking about very big illnesses such as cancer and AIDS. Specially if they already advanced.

Salt and pepper health effects? -

i ve been on a real health kick the past year and have been slowly bettering my diet and slowly getting into better and better shape. Something I m curious about is how does table salt and pepper effect your diet. Something I m really interested in is lowering blood pressure, I know excess salt increases blood pressure and hypertension, but how much table salt is a significant amount, I guess compare it to like the sodium that s in food. Should I consider cutting it out of my diet or is the small amount I put on things like a potato insignificant? Also I haven t heard anything about pepper are there any negative effects with pepper as there is with salt?

There is plenty of sodium in your diet without adding salt at the table. Try some other options like Mrs. Dash or something like that. As for pepper, it has all kinds of health benefits (who knew??) for you so pepper away!

When i go for run i get short of breath? -

i am a little bit overweight and i hae high blood pressure as well and i have hypertension. is it safe for me to run if i keep getting short of breath

I was once fit as when i was young however I gained weight and have since tried to return to a better figure. It s natural to run out of breath as I did on my firast week back to training but try to set goals that are realistic i.e. start lightly i.e. 20 min jog 3 times a week then progress to 30 min jogs after say 2 weeks. DONT set unrealistic goals at the begining otherwise you might just give up. Remember start light and increase your target.

You need to gradually get into a routine your body can adapt to. I would start by walking. Walk 30mins a day and longer if you can for a couple of weeks. Then start to jog for a couple of minutes and walk for five, jog for a couple of mins and walk for five minutes. Extend your jogging and lessen your walk time. Then start to run. Only for a short time at a time and walk in-between. Follow this pattern and you ll be running long distances in no time. Good luck.

um DUH thats WHY you run!! If you didnt get puffed, you wouldnt be doing anything to help your body. Being puffed is how you know if your working anything off of u. If you arent getting puffed, its not exercise.

Its because youre using lots of energy so you feel tired.

its safe it just means your not fit try jogging and working up to running

Help to identify my uncles health problem? -

My uncle is highly qualified Aircraft Electrical technician... he was worked as a Junior warrent officer in Indian Air Force and retired before 8 years...last 5 years he facing the following problem...... Medical Investigation revealed that, there is a degeneration of disc at cervical spine C3,C4,C5 and triglicaroid level in blood is high. Facing constant gidiness when neck is strained. back pain unable to seat for more than 5 minutes.Hip joint pain and fear to move away from home. There is no other problem[stand and walk] Uncomfortable to perform day to day essential activities.Hypertension is also there. When he take alfroxin tablet 0.25mg feeling little comfortable and taking madicine for hypertension. That is amlodefine-5mg twice. He feel comfortable immediately after bed upto 1/2 hour.

I would recommend a consultation with a neurologist (doctors that diagnose and treat diseases and disorders of the nervous system) because of the neck issue and also a rheumatologist (a doctor that diagnoses and treats diseases and disorders of the joints) to see what additional information they can provide to your uncle. Part of this sounds like it could be arthritis related.

Are there nonprofits or other organizations that assist diabetics to improve smiles with dental implants? -

i reenrolled in college 2 years ago.i will graduate,12/08. i am diabetic, have hypertension, and am very excited about living life again. i was severly depressed for almost 17years. i have two wonderful teenage children whom i love and adore. yes i m married to their father. life s been more than tough; by God s grace we managed to keep the family together so that the children could have some sense of normalcy. My battle scars are my teeth and loss of hair. i manage to conceal both as much as possible. i m 48 with a new outlook on life. i feel like i ve gotten a second wind. my 19 year old daughter just finished her second year at the local community college with a 4.0 GPA. Her brother is a good student presently in the 10th grade. The college scouts are looking at him already. i ve seen so many makeovers with gorgeous teeth. two years ago i saw two of wash,d.c. s greatest dentist. The cost are astronomical. i m not mad at the dentist. i am desperate to have a great smile. thanx

Hello, Congratulations for your new life. I understand that the costs are astronomical, but so many people are ready to have it done that it might be difficult to find a place where they make it for quot;cheapquot;. You know, dental implants are often considered as the best solution, but other good and cheaper solutions exist. Explore these! For example, a well-fitted partial denture can restore a smile satisfactorily in a majority of patients. I know that it is possible to get surgery done for quot;cheapquot; in some countries... It s common for plastic surgery and it s increasingly popular for dental treatments. People doing it put their health at risk, since the treatments are often done in countries where the standards of care are lower than in the quot;Western Worldquot;. And even though you get somebody competent, the follow-up can be impossible if you have problems... And good luck to find a dentist in D.C. willing to work with a quot;butchedquot; surgery. U.S. and Canada have among the highest standards or dental practice in the world. Don t forget it!

Dental Cosmetic Treatment and Surgery is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges dental surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website

Which is an ideal antihypertensive? -

Treatment of Hypertension.

That would depend on your health issues and your doctor s knowledge of your issues and the medications that would be prescribed. There are many that do different things.

get ur BP measured. Ur Dr will take care of it, dont worry. its simple if u will show compliance with the prescribed drug.

garlic,dear!!!!

There is no standard/ideal hypertensive medicine...it has to be personalized, and your doctor , who knows your other medicial conditions, and lifestyle is your best bet on advice. Some antihypertensives have side effects that are actually useful in treating other medical problems, so you can get two for the price of one. For example, ACE inhibitors are also useful in patients with certain kidney problems

There is no quot;ideal antihypertensivequot; for everyone - it all depends on everyone s individual characteristics, for example, your age, any other illnesses that you suffer from at this time or in the past, etc. Your doctor will take all these into consideration when prescribing the best antihypertensive for you.

JNC 7 guidelines say it s HCTZ, followed by others. Ace inhibitors are also first-line. But, first thing to do is weight loss and diet modification. If it s still elevated, then you go on HCTZ and you have to be sure to stay on it at the beginning coz you will be peeing a lot and will want to discontinue it. Hope this helps! Of course, you should see a MD and if you re a good patient, you will already have your BP measured at a Walgreen s or other place and bring those measurements in for us to look at.

Suggest yoga for weight gain, muscles and good digestion..? -

suggest yoga for weight gain, muscles and good digestion.....and to lower hypertension/stress/chest pain....

A great way to ease digestion is to sit on your heels and put your hands, palms up, on your lap so that your right and left fingertips face one another. This helps the digestive organs realign and aid digestion.

nope.it doesn t help in weight gain. it keep your body trim.

Yoga means not only Pranayama and asanas. Yoga is different. As for Pranayama and asanas, they will help you in digestion, to lower hypertension, chest pain, stress and what not, they will make your body and mind healthy. As for gaining weight ask a Pranayama Teacher whether you can gain weight. If you have the access learn asana and pranayama from a teacher, Before starting Pranayama you need to do Nadi shuddi. For Nadi shuddi, at morning, noon, evening, night keep the right thumb on right nostril and breathe through left nostril(as per capacity) and immediately leave the breath from right nostril and repeat the same process with left nostril.Do this 3 to 5 times. You should do nadi shuddi at dawn, noon, evening, midnight.

Does orbitrek really work? -

any type of cardio would be helpful, so the orbitrek could be helpful. it s easy on the knees, so that s good. the important thing is whether you would use it on a regular basis.

What can be the reason for puffiness below the lower lids[sagging of skin] that is there through out the day? -

my husband is 39 yrs old and a case of mild hypertension,he is taking 1/2 a tab of atenelol 0.25 everyday for the last almost 4 yrs. now i have started seeing that he has sagging of the skin below his lower lids like that is usually seen in people who drink a lot.he does drink but only once a week, usually saturdays and isa moderate drinker , though he was a heavy drinker 7 yrs back.i am worried for him and would like to know what is the reason for this sagging of the skin and what can i do to cure it.thanks a lot

It is often a sign of an unhealthy liver. However, many things can contribute to an unhealthy liver, not just heavy drinking. Look at his overall health including diet, exercise, etc.

Is it puffiness or sagging? or is it sagging because it is puffy? could be sinus/allergies.

Single Women and Sterilization? -

I m 30 (almost 31), single and have no children. I do NOT want children and would like to be sterilized. My decision is quite firm and I m not interested in other reversible options. I m having trouble with regular hormonal birth control (developing hypertension). But besides that, I want something permanent since I live Louisiana, which has anti-abortion trigger laws (they don t even take RAPE into account!!). I would prefer to never have to worry about this problem ever again. I would like to be truly free of this. What are the chances of a doctor being willing to perform Essure on me? Would a doc in another state be more willing? Any advice on doctors? Thanks a lot!

First, I would like to ask you if you ve considered a non-hormonal IUD? If you haven t, consider this as an option instead of a permanent form of birth control (as it would be safer for you and your body): am not exactly familiar with the procedures surrounding Essure, but with a tubal ligation, many doctors will not perform one on a woman with no children, although I ve heard that age is a factor as well, and you appear to be old enough to have had the opportunity to have children and decided it wasn t for you. As for the availability of the procedure, I really couldn t say, sorry.

Any OB/GYN doc should be able to do it for you and should not question your request. Have you asked your own doc about it? If not call and talk to your doc.

Can t you just get you tubes tied? That s what they do here ( canada) for women who no longer want children. It s pretty easy and not complicated.

what is essure???

How can i conquer my fear of heat? -

it was 06 january this year when i first encountered my first hypertension problem. im a 53 yr old asian, single and living alone in a townhouse. was rushed to a nearby hospital and given a medicine to be dissolved underneath my toungue. well and good, after a few minutes my BP normalized to 120/80 from 160/90. took norvasc 5mg for 10 consecutive days and everythings back to normal. should i go on taking maintenance everyday? i changed a lot like living a healthy lifestyle, doing some exercises daily and avoiding foods like processed foods, sodium, cheese etc. quit smoking and sleeping early. last two months ago while riding my motorbike around 11 am i felt like my back was so hot i cant help but took a shower. it took me only about 20 minutes biking under the sun and now the phobia still remains. i dont feel good everytime i walk under the sun. hope i can get some help from you guys. thanks for your time.....

G is right some medicines do create a hypersensitivity to sun and heat. Talk to your Pharmacist as they know more about the side effects then the doctors do in many cases.

I d recommend to limit the exposure and gradually increase it over time as you overcome the phobia.

are you on any medications now? a lot of medications make you overly sensitive to the sun. i would thoroughly research anything you were on for underlying side effects.

this sounds like a very hard and critical situation and i would reccomend you to go and ask a proffesional doctor to give u advice as of where to go or what to do.

THE SUN IS NOT A MONSTER!! I live in colorado and it reached 115 this summer. It is ok just control how often u are in the sun and hot places.

live in a skyscraper

If u are try too.. when is the last time u should..? 10 points to who ever gives a good answer..? -

ok if ur overweight and u are trying to loose weight what are the donts and what helps to loose pounds fast.. and please dont say excerse because i cant do much.. what time is the last meal of the day? keep in mind that diabetes.. hypertension, depression is also present.. any ideas?

Trust me on this. I ve taken many nutrition classes and lost 50 pounds in 6 months and have kept it off for years. The main idea is to burn more calories than you’re taking in. It s impossible to teach you everything I ve learned in this little answer box, so I ll just simplify it as best I can. #1 Drink water! First of all, your mind has a hard time knowing the difference between hunger and thirst until you are 2% dehydrated. So when you re looking through a pantry for a snack, its often because you re actually thirsty. It s also an appetite suppressant, and every time you drink water instead of soda or lemonade, you re not downing an entire cup of sugar and carbs with it. Just be sure to drink water often throughout the day. #2 Apples, though not necessarily low in carbs, they keep you full for longer than other foods. Its a good rule of thumb that the less a food is messed with, the healthier it is. For example, apple juice is better than punch, apple sauce is better than juice, and an apple is better than apple sauce. Get it? Gum also gives you something to chew and taste that doesn t give you tons of extra carbs either. The last meal you should eat at night depends on when you go to sleep, but it should be a few hours (3 or 4) before you go to bed. A small snack just before bed isn t so bad, but of course, its better if you don t. #3 Read food labels! The more you do, the more you ll learn what is considered high or low concerning fat, sugars, carbs, and protein. #4 Exercise. When people ask me what s more important, diet or exercise, its like asking which wing would you rather have when flying a plane. You need both. Great tip: if you walk for 20 min before you eat in the morning, you burn 3 times more fat than if you run later on in the day after you eat. Then take a shower and get ready before you have breakfast, because the fat continues to burn for another hour. A quick ab workout is ideal after you walk since your core is already a little cut up from a walk or a run. (don t walk too hard, it should be enjoyable. but the idea is to get the heart pumping more than usual) Also, excercise is a natural anti-depressant. #5 Remember, its not a diet. Its a change of lifestyle and the way you think. There is no such thing as a quick fix. Be patient and CONSISTANT. Those are the key words. And if you do it easy, then you ll never get burned out and you ll do it for the rest of your life. That s the best I can give you for now. If you ever get the chance, take a nutrition class, and/or get an exercise trainer. Good luck!

This may not be the best answer but there is no fast way to lose weight besides lap band etc., well that I know of. Unless you starve yourself or risk your health from those so-called diet pills then you must do a little exercise with a healthy diet. I m not saying running two blocks but even if you start out by walking the block, is some exercise. Once you ve conquered one block try walking two and so on. I m no expert or anything but when I started exercising years ago I did as much research as I could. What you cannot do not do any exercise at all and expect to lose weigh, if you can eat healthy (unlike) me then it ll be easier for you. Losing weigh takes time and commitment it s not an over night thing and please don t think so. Figure out a few light exercises that you can do.

i wouldnt belive the eating time thing, obviosuly dont eat loads and loads juts before bed, but just as long as you have an hour at least after eating before you go to bed thats fine, it doesnt matter what time as such. ways to lose weight are however strange it seems to eat frequently, never go more than 3 hours without food. bear in mind healthy food.keep it as natural as possible. i found when dieting if i had the slightest type or processed sugary food that would trgger a big binge. natural foods, never have this effect. i mean, i cant imagine bingeing on fruits and veg, or things like brown rice e.t.c. good snacks: hummus veg dips, apples with peanut butter, oat cakes spread with tahini. fruit! you shouldnt lose it really fast, your just get loose skin so yeh your have less fat but have saggy arms, so combine it with little weight training, if you cant exercise. exercise could simply be walking for 20 mins though, if you do this youd see an effect even. good luck, eat atleast 1500 cals a day, and try to walk a bit more than usual and just get a little dumbell or even use soup cans e.t.c for light weight training.

Do an easy workout - AKA walk at a decent pace for 20-30 minutes a day and work your way up over a few months to the point where you can jog it. Don t buy or be around unhealthy snacks. Buy a bunch of carrots and celery and such so that whenever you want a snack that s all you ve got - plus they re tasty. No ranch dressing though unless its fat free. Don t eat an anytime within an hour of going to bed. Avoid sugar. The exercise will work wonders on the depression, too.

Why can t you exercise? I m sorry to say losing weight is going to be very hard and unhealthy if you quot;can tquot; exercise in some way. Walking counts, you know. Walk everywhere you can.

i don t eat fast food, or soda, i take hydroxycut, and i don t exercise much, but i do get out and move. my last meal is around 7:00pm cuz my mom comes home late.

i was a little chubby so i cut my calories to abou 650 a day and now i weigh 87 lbs without any exercise.

Committed Suicide or Death from disease? -

Wednesday, my dad found my uncle in his home after not hearing from him since Monday, dead on the floor. He had rectal bleeding from what we are not sure. My mom went inside and found a notebook in which my uncle had listed all his doctors, his sons from his previous marriage, his bank account numbers, his birth certificate and a few other personal things. On the floor beside him, was a lot of pills but there was an assortment. He lay on the floor holding his side which means he had some kind of pain. My dad had mentioned that he had been saying before that if anything was to happen to him, for my dad to take care of everything. And my uncle s girlfriend said he spoke as if he knew something was going to happen to him. Do you think he committed suicide or died from one of these diseases; ulcerative colitis of the colon, degenerate disces of spine, hypertension, or enlarged prostate.

First of all....I am so sorry about your loss. But...from everything you have said...it does sound like suicide.

Was there an autopsy done? That would be able to tell you what was wrong with him physically. I don t know. The doctors and police should be able to figure out exactly what happened and let you know.

For insurance purposes he died from a disease and also for family closure!@~

the autopsy should give you all the information on cause of death. some of the things you listed wont kill you. so just wait for the autopsy report. im sorry to here of your loss .

Has anyone developed a heart condition after receiving the Anthrax Vaccination Series? -

Anyone Take the Anthrax Vaccination with Hypertension, Diabetes or Coronary Artery Disease? Mostly people in the military and some civilian government workers were given this vaccination. If you have, and have had some illness develop, please reply. I developed Coronary Artery Disease right after my third vaccination. I had 9 visit to the Catherization Lab to have my coronary arteries opened up. A total of 15 Coronary Stents were install in my heart over a 33 month period. The last two angioplasties resulted in Ballooning the arteries open, which lasted just 4 weeks. They re-entered and treated the site with a form of radiation. . part of a research study. I am now a 100 percent disabled veteran and I need to know if more people have been harmed by this

Other people have also developed heart problems. That s sad! You don t want to get 100%; what you really want is to feel healthy. No money is going to compensante us if something goes wrong. http://www.ngwrc.org/index.cfm?page=Arti...

What is a pulse pressure? -

I m 20 years old with hypertension. I was put on Atenolol on Saturday and my doctor told me to buy a digital blood pressure monitor and keep a log of my blood pressure. What I don t understand is the pulse pressure....I thought it was the difference between the systolic and diastolic pressures. I took a reading and my blood pressure is 131/76(this is after atenolol) but it shows the pulse as 102. Shouldn t my pulse be 55?

The pulse pressure is the difference between the systolic (top number) and diastolic (bottom) blood pressure. Sounds like your monitor is counting your pulse which is the number of heart beats in one minute.

It s simply the difference between the systolic (high number) and diastolic (low number) pressures. It has nothing to do with heart rate. It s called pulse pressure because it s the pressure generated at the peak of the heart contraction. It s the wave front moving through the system. Pulse pressure is of interest when it s abnormal. For instance, a very narrow pulse pressure can indicate a physical heart problem. Now, your pulse was shown as 102 by the monitor. Heart rate varies greatly with exertion, illness, fever, fatigue, etc. It can also go up when you test your blood pressure if you re fearful of finding it high. Learn to take you own pulse, resting your index and middle finger on your wrist on the thumb side. Once you figure out where to take, it you can find it again quickly. Checking it at random will show you how it changes. One side effect of Atenolol can be a slow pulse. If it consistently runs around 100 while you re at rest (sitting quietly for ten minutes), ask your doctor about it next time. A heart rate of 100 won t hurt you before then, and it may just be that you naturally run a faster rate. Some people have a normal resting rate as low as 40 and are just fine. Normal is pretty much what s normal for you, unless it gets dangerously high or low.

it is when you heart is beating to fast

Can someone please help me with this? -

Hi I have a really important question. How many mg s of salt a day should a person with hypertension eat? Also, is it true that if a person with hypertension drinks a lot of water it will raise their blood pressure? Thank you

someone with hypertension should avoid salt, if at all possible. as for water, i could not tell you about. i have never heard this

Well a person with high blood pressure should only have 2300 mg of sodium a day. One teaspoon of salt has about 2300 mgs of sodium. i hope that helps.. No.. i dont think so.. i would ask a doctor though

Im taking medicine that ive taken for months and im so tired. Please help!? -

Im only 12 and i was recently diagnosed with intracranial hypertension. I take lasix and diamox. Ive taken them for 2 months and never been this tired. A lot of the time Im to tired to do well on homework or play field hockey and lacrosse. Its really annoying my headaches still come back sometimes. Please Help!!!

maybe ask your doctor if you can try a different type of medicine if its reall bugging you. but you shouldn t worry about being really tired. after i had brain surgery, my doctor gave me differents types of medicine and they all made me really tired. my doctor said that it was normal cuz your body has to get use to the new medicine. fell btr(:

Ask your doctor if you can try Immunocal (US) or HMS 90 (Canada). It is listed in his PDR and the Pharmacist Red book. It should give you the energy and help with your problem. It is a natural form of cysteine. When you take it, you will boost your glutathione.

I am 21 years old ... male... and in very good shape .. i exercise and eat right.. and play baseball...i have? -

over the last few months had many headaches and am lightheaded a lot... i have been seeing a doctor.. but i was just wondering if someone could tell me what the side effects are to isolated systolic hypertension...my blood pressure has consistently been 144ish/83ish... sometimes the systolic number is a lil higher... today when i had a stress test done the number reached the 160 s while the other number stayed relatively the same... i just want to know if headaches and lightheadedness could be causes by that... even though its not that relatively high... they said my heart was normal

Your blood pressure is a little high. And you need to check it about twice a day for seven days and document your readings. Eat lots of vegetables, fruits, skin less chicken and fish. Stay away from salt you can use fresh herbs to season your food. Drink plenty of water. And get a second opinion from another doctor if you continue to have headaches, and feeling lightheaded.

My best advise to you is talk to your Dr if he or she does not satisfy you then get a new Dr. You don t want just anyone giving u medical advise . Take care !

Decreased or Increased Cardiac Output in Preeclampsia? -

My groupmates and I have been debating for a while now the pathophysiology of preeclampsia in of course, women. It is quite troublesome because some of their research show that hypovolemia and decreased cardiac output accompanies preeclampsia while my own research show that hypervolemia causes edema while at the same time increases extracellular fluid increasing stroke volume thus increasing cardiac output and then leads to hypertension. What do you guys think is right?

Resarch indicates that you may both be right - WedMD notes, quot;Changes in virtually all organ systems occur in preeclampsia-eclampsia. Intense vasospasm occurs probably in response to the higher sensitivity to all endogenous pressors, particularly angiotensin II. The hypervolemia seen in normal pregnancy does not occur. Decreased intravascular volume and hemoconcentration occur at least in part because of endothelial cell damage that promotes leakage of fluid and protein from the intravascular to the interstitial space. The leakage causes contraction of the intravascular space and expansion of the interstitial space (ie, edema).quot; (1) However, it has been noted that hypovolemia exists in patients with preeclampsia with the exception of women with pyelonephritis. (2) Also quot;... It is notable that women with occult or undiagnosed renal disease may present with apparently new-onset hypertension and proteinuria in pregnancy that may mimic preeclampsia. Obtaining a careful history, physical examination, and laboratory evaluation may clarify the diagnosis.quot; (1) So, while the traditional view is that hypovolemia presents in patients with preeclamsia, there may be other pre-conditions in your patients which resulted in the hypervolemia. With the human body, the diagnosis is never cut and dried.... Good luck with your debates. Check out the research at medline, nih.org. hypertension.com, etc - there are some interesting studies regarding cardiac output and preeclampsia. Note: I am a librarian and former Navy medical staff - the opinions expressed here are my own and do not constitute medical advice.

I think it increases cardiac output, because it s caused by hypertention. The blood volume increases during pregnancy, but the only thing gained was plasma, not on erthrocytes. Could that be the reason why your groupmate think it s a decrease in cardiac output? --------------------------------------... Correction: I m sorry, I just looked up in the text book, your groupmates were correct, Preeclampsia leads to fluid volume deficit, related to fluid shifting from intravascular to extravascular space. Which means it s decrease cardiac output, because the fluid drained out from the vascular system into the tissue. So it doesn t count as Increased Cardiac output. Also, I ll give you the defination of Decreased Cardiac Output: Inadequate blood pumped by the heart to meet the metabolic demands of the body. It s just like I suspected, although the volume increased, the erthrocytes number didn t, so a preeclampic women is actually anemic, since her cardiac output is unable to meet the needs of the body s tissue.

Treatment of 6,5 month child from cerebral palsy? -

Where and how to treat 6,5 month child from cerebral palsy caused by birth injury. Do not hold his head for more than 10 second, do not sit, do not pronounce quot;maquot;, quot;baquot; only quot;hmmmquot; , can not take toys and play with them. Has hyperkinesias form and hypertension in arms. We do not want to miss time.

Treating a baby with cerebral palsy is a challenge, one from a birth trauma is even more so. Our options are limited here, but I have seen improvement in my CP patients. There s a special type of chiropractor I refer my patients to, although in your case, I recommend going to the very best in the nation if you have the means. A. nausea, vomiting and anorexia B. hypertension, edema and heart failure C. fatigue, personality changes and confusion D. dehydration, weight loss and peptic ulcers

B. In renal disease, the kidneys aren t efficient enough to get rid of excess fluid. Taking in too much sodium and fluids will cause the blood volume to get too high (leading to hypertension), edema because the fluid has nowhere to go but into the body tissues, and heart failure because of the extra strain put on the heart from the excess blood volume.

B renel failure causes retention of sodium and fluids which on their will lead hypertension, edema heart failure, taking in more fluids and sodium tends to hasten and worsen these

fluid retention, edema in feet and legs and also cardiac problems

So I have not ate meat in about five years now.................? -

And I am not at my healthiest. I am lacking many things such as vitamins and protein. I try to eat well but it is not working. I am almost border line hypertension meaning I could have a heart attack. Should I add white meat to my diet? I really don t want to eat meat but if it will help make me healthier I will consider it.

If you are not eating meat of any kind - white meat, red meat, etc., you are lacking most of the proteins and vitamins/minerals you need to survive. Please see a nutritionist - if you suddenly feed your body meat after five years, you could become extremely ill. Talk to a nutritionist or doctor ASAP. I hope you are taking the appropriate meds for the high blood pressure - and why don t you ask the doctor who prescribes them about the meat issue?

Are you the type of vegetarian who only eats junk food? Talk to your doctor instead of taking our word. Try soy products, a lot of veggies, and a lot of fruit. However, talk to your doctor first. If you re that close to having a heart attack, you shouldn t be asking us.

you should try going to a place like gnc where they sell diet supplements. you may be able to take protein in pill form. you may also try to see if any herbs or other natural products will replace what you re missing. there are other foods that are high in protein such as peanut butter.

You should incorporate some chicken or fish into your diet several times a week... or at LEAST make sure to eat lots of eggs and cheese, which has actual animal protein that you can only get from animal products. However you should really be talking to your doctor about your health concerns. Tell him/her that you have not been eating meat, and ask what you should do to remain healthy.

Fish and seafood are good for you, if you like them. Just try adding in a small amount, a few times a week and see if that improves your health. If you need to, take some enzymes for digesting protein.

That s exactly why I gave up my vegan diet...add chicken, and Good Luck

Animals were put on this earth for us to eat. That s why they are here. I understand everyone has their own belief system but you are not going to live forever you might as well enjoy things in life while your here and that will be a lot easier if your healthier. Eat the white meat- it s good for you.

You need to take supplements and look at the mix of vegetables that you are eating, especially increasing those foods that contain iron and phosphorus.

Nuts and other forms of protein are available. If anything else, add fish to your diet. Vitamins come from vegetables so you re wrong there, unless you re overcooking your vegetables. I d look into the raw food diet and start eating Seafood. All of your problems would clear up after that.

What about a little fish? Is it so bad? You need to see a doctor perhaps. Did you know that sugar and carbos are even worse then meat for hypertension?

I hear that certain combos of food help, such as peanut butter and bread or beans and tortillas. You should eat meat, if you will only eat white meat, fine but meat is part of a balanced diet which you have experienced through this. You can t just take out part of your diet and not replace the nutrients you are no longer getting. You should add meat back into your diet.

Have you been to a Dietitian? If you are Hypertensive you doctor should be recommending medication and diet, especially if you told him that you are vegetarian. Do you know where protein comes from - not just meat - eggs, cheese, milk, nuts, beans, lentils. Do you eat those? In quantities that actually help you? Get yourself some lentil soup and have a cheese or egg sandwich every day. I was just diagnosed with hypertension, and diabetes - I went to a dietitian - and am eating better than I ever did. Try it.

Here is an article on former vegetarians who found that they felt better when they added meat back to their diets. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/main.j...

You can eat healthy, and get all the vitamins and protein you need without eating meat, however it does take effort. So, I think you have to decide if you want to put more effort into your diet, (ie. what kind of meatless foods can you add, so that your nutritional needs are being met), or change your beliefs.

I would definitely consider eating some type of meat if it ultimately means your life sweetie. You don t have to jump right into eating meat, but you could also try to eat more beans and/or humas for the lack of protein that you have.

I m not going to say whether you should eat meat or not. That s your choice. But I can tell you that I had a friend that didn t eat meat for 15 years and one day decided to eat steak and claimed she felt the best she has EVER felt in YEARS. She now eats meat every once in awhile. But going from nothing to steak is a REALLY huge step, and it sounds like that isn t something your willing to do. Which is fine. First I d go to the doctor... because if you are teetering on the borderline of having a heart attack... that s no good. If you were just recently at the doctor and they told you all this (thus why your asking the question), I d go to a organic grocery store and ask for advice. This isn t a uncommon problem and I m sure they could help you out a bit. I m not sure where you live and if there is an organic grocery store near you... so if there isn t, I d contact these guys. This is one of the most respected organic stores where I live. luck!

What is the importance of diet and exercise ? -

To hypertension and diabetes

Well balanced meals give the body the proper fuel to function correctly. Meals should have a colorful variety of fruits and vegetables, lean meats and whole grain starches. Snacks should be fruits. The majority of nutrients come from fruits and vegetables. Exercise helps the cardiovascular system, which in turns keeps the body running smoothly. 30 minutes of walking, running, aerobics, biking or some other activity per day, 4 days a week is good. As one gets older, incorporating a weightlifting program is needed to make the body denser, which will increase the metabolism. Both are significant deterrents for high blood pressure and diabetes.

living longer

i absolutely have no idea

Diet is important so your body can stay healthy and clean. Exercise is good for the body because it really takes the stress out of your daily life. It also enhances the digestive system so it can work properly and distribute the nutrition you feed your body properly. Exercise is important so your physique will stay in shape, being over weight is not healthy at all. It makes you tired and also your body keeps telling you that you need more food to keep up the weight, all your doing is feeding your body more food so it can gain more weight. It may be routine, but so is eating, sleeping, laundry, car washing, cleaning the house, etc. going to work is all routine. It is just like feeding your mind with intelligence, and working it to keep it in shape also.

Low calcium, irregular liver function and high cholesterol? any idea? -

My friend has these symptoms: high cholesterol, irregular liver function (as in its not working correctly), low calcium in body and heartburn. these symtoms are the ones, but noone has any idea what the thing is - as in whats causing it and what it is. anyone has any idea what this might be? hes a male, 18 years age. not overweight at all, optimum body weight. hypertension runs in the family, but he hasnt got an irregular blood pressure level. ideas people!

There are two blood tests that are done, by the doctor, if the liver is not functioning right. One of them is the liver enzymes which will show the doctor if there is liver damage, the other set of test is known as the liver function tests...it will show if the liver is able to do the functions it usually does to keep the body healthy. Usually, liver problems start out as inflammation of the liver cells. The doctor can use medications to help this so the liver can heal. However, if it proceeds without treatment, it can lead to the death of the liver cells known as cirrhosis and then the doctors can only try to slow the progression of the whole liver becoming destroyed. High cholesterol is known to be high in liver disease. There are many causes of liver disease that can progress to this cirrhosis. In some cases it can be healed before it reaches this stage, by stopping doing what may have caused it in the first place...in other cases, nothing the patient does can stop it. Liver disease can be caused by(1) drinking Alcohol, (2)it can be caused by different medications (over the counter pain medications taken in excess, prescription medications that may be hard on the liver (always check with doctor first before stopping any medications), any medication taken that can lead to toxicity, herbs, herbal teas. (3)Exposure to chemicals, especially carbon tetrachloride (4)Gallbladder stone that block the bile ducts coming out of the liver (5) autoimmune disease that attack the bile ducts like primary biliary cirrhosis and sclerosing cholangitis (6) Hereditary disease like Hemochromatosis in which the body holds onto iron and/or also copper. (7) Fatty liver (known as NASH or NAFLD) (8) Hepatitis A,B,C, etc. When someone has low calcium, they should also have their thryroid, parathyroid checked. As you can see, there are some things that if stopped can help the liver...not drinking alcohol, telling the doctor all the medication you are taking whether over the counter, herbs, or prescriptions from other doctors, avoiding chemicals. It is also good, right now, for the patient to try to stay away from other who are sick so that they have time to heal without adding a double dose to what they have. Losing weight can sometimes help people who have fatty liver disease if it is caused by weight and not something else. If you want to read more about cirrhosis, here is the link: href="rel="nofollow">hope this information is of some help. This is the only thing that comes to mind from what you posted above.

I have Erectile Dysfunction(ED) Problem,What should i do for This? -

I had an accident 7 years before and got injury on head and 10 years before i also had an injury on my Testes while playing Cricket as the ball struck my tested and i had surgery (to remove vericocele). After marriage i have a dughter of 7 years Old also. now a days i have severe ED problem, No Viagara Please It causes me Hypertension Please suggest something As Good and serious answer would be an appreciation. Thanks in advance

If you have ED you need to see a physian to determine the cause. There are a number of causes that include: DIabetes, obesity, cardiovascular problems and just plain out psychological ones such as nervous tension.. See your Doctor please who may presribe medication for you. There are other medications besides Viagra that may be of assistance to you.

You could try injection therapy, I use Caverject or Edex and both produce a very hard erection that can last up to four hours. Worth a try.

UR UGE MRS. PLZ TELL AND CHAT WITH ME . I WILL CAND TELL SOMETHING IN ALTERNATIVE

If Viagra can t be used, you could try Levitra or Cialis. If those prove unsuitable also, I would consult a specialist. An outfit called Boston Medical Group advertises extensively to deal with this.

There is an injection that can be prescribed if you are a suitable candidate and is injected about ten minutes before sex and you will stay erect for a while. A diabetic I know told me that he has to use it.

Help, have hypothyroidism and need some answers? -

I have had hypothyroidism for yrs and been on synthroid 1mcg , my current TSH level is 2.91 (.34-4.82) is normal, anyway, I feel far from quot;normalquot; my hair is falling out, I m cold mostly in the evenings, I have elevated lipids, hypertension, anemia, elevated homocysteine level, insomnia, muscle aches that s partly why I can t sleep is the pain, I m still 40 lbs over wt. I will go back to my GP in about a week anybody else have these problems ? I went to about.com and it s all there about my symptoms my Dr. wants to treat me with Antihypertensives, Vit., Iron, Lipid lowering agents, I think since the thyroid disease causes these symptoms that s what he should treat. There isn t a thyroid Dr. within hundreds of miles where I live. Please comment

Yes, those are all hypo symptoms. Your TSH of 2.91 is too high. Most feel best with the morning TSH around 1.0. TSH needs to always be done first thing in the morning or you may not get the correct dosage. With your symptoms, there s a chance that you are converting enough T4 into T3 and may be helped by adding T3. This can be done by adding a small about of Cytomel or switching to Armour or Thyrolar. I started out on Levoxyl. It did nothing for my symptoms. Eventually I added 5 mcg s of Cytomel and it helped about 75% of my symptoms. I am now on Armour and it has helped about 95% of my symptoms. I only have ridged fingernails and cold feet at night. Below are links that may help. Getting your levels right should help with the symptoms. Being just in range is not enough. You don t need a thyroid doctor. A good family doctor who s willing to work with yo should be enough. Thyroid doctors aren t always the best. I had one who added the Cytomel, but refused to use ARmour. If I had of stayed with him, I d still be having some symptoms because Armour was the best medicaton for me.

i have thyroid disease also. go to suite101.com and type in thyroid. it s a great place to get real good answers/advice from ppl who have been there and are up to date with the latest info. good luck!

I have too much testosterone, so pretty much same thing as you. what do you do throughout the week, are you overstressed? is there a way you could change your schedule to help alleviate your problems. I m far from an expert, but maybe a change of diet or just getting some time to relax would improve your situation. I tend to be a bit of a worry wort and i used to make myself sick. It helps me alot to also have an outlet for stress. I play basketball to help get rid of my excess energy and i try to take my dogs for a walk twice a week. I changed my diet too. Try to eliminate processed foods and unnecessary caffeine and i try to eat fresh fruits and veggies more often. What you put into your body will affect your physiology.

Can u please use each of these words in a medical sentence 1.chronic 2.acute 3.diagnosis 4.hemorrhage? -

5.infection 6. hypertension 7.edema 8.inflammation 9. intramuscular

After an entire summer of nasal congestion he was diagnosed with chronic sinusitis. He had nasal congestion which began over the weekend and was diagnosed with acute sinusitis. His nasal congestion was diagnosed as sinusitis. He was hit in the nose with a ball and had acute hemorrhage of the nose. Clean the cut with alcohol swab so that it does not become inflamed and infected with bacteria or virus. His blood pressure was consistently high for many weeks and he was diagnosed with hypertention. His legs are swollen and my thumb can leave a dent in it so it is called pitting edema. He is allergic to the pollen so he has trouble with swelling and reddened inflammation in the nasal passages. The pain medicine must be given shot into the muslce and we call that intramuscular.

A chronic infection is an infection that develops slowly and lasts a long time. An acute infection occurs in the first 6 months of a person’s exposure to the hepatitis B virus. The patient has a diagnosis of mild head injury and postconcussion syndrome. The patient may have an internal hemorrhage that is invisible. Audit of clean wound infection has been proposed as a quality indicator for hospitals. Hypertension is often asymptomatic. Doctors define edema as an increase in the volume of fluid in the spaces between the body’s cells. Inflammation may be present in early osteoarthritis as well as in advanced osteoarthritis. Smaller volume intramuscular injections may be given into the deltoid, but larger volumes are usually given into the gluteus muscle. Inflammation can be acute or chronic and treatment depends on the diagnosis. The infection may cause hypertension leading to edema of the lower and upper extremities and ascites. The residual infection should respond to intramuscular injections of the appropriate antibiotics. If this does not give you a pass mark, more schooling is required. – Good Luck! Matador 89

1. She has a case of chronic liver inflammation. 2. Acute ear infections are common among swimmers. 3. Fibromyalgia was her diagnosis. 4. A hemorrhage can lead to extreme fatigue and possible fainting. 5. An infection is caused by a bacterium of microbe. 6. Hypertension, or high blood pressure, can be increased by obesity. 7. Edema is usually a side effect of infection. 8. Inflammation is irritation within the membranes in the cells of an organ or tissue. 9. Intramuscular sites are the best places for injections of steroids and vaccines.

Sam was a chronic alcoholic with an acute sense of sniffing out bars and making a quick diagnosis of the liquors available within. His drinking was like an incurable infection that grew worse each day like a pickled liver bloated by edema. At times when Sam began to sober up, he became so inflamed and angry that he shook from uncontrollable intramuscular contractions and nearly hemorrhaged from his hypertension.

Why my heart beats so fast lately? -

i m 19, 174 cm, 80 kg. and my heart beat is about 80-90 sometimes, it feel really strong, especially the ictus cordis... I have no hypertension, DM, etc.

You may go for an ECG, repeat the BP (blood pressure) check up, and get a GTT done etc., under your doctor s advice, for eliminating a heart problem, a tendency for hypertension and diabetes. An MS or a congenital heart also may have to be excluded in your case. If these major causes are eliminated, it may perhaps be treated as functional due to anxiety, age, stress and strain factors etc. However keeping a watch of the condition under medical supervision may be treated as important.

Palpitations can be caused by several things such as anxiety, certain diseases or even medications. I suggest you see a doctor for a proper diagnosis. Good luck! By the way, if I m not wrong a normal hearbeat is between 60-80/90, but I m not too sure. You can ask your doctor about this.

drinking lots of caffeine can do this to you! and so can a panic attack or anxiety.

How to test for?????????? -

How does the doctor test for hypertension? is it just how they check your blood pressure. does it hurt

no he puts a strap around your arm which he inflates you will feel a small squeeze that s all , he may also do an ECG test he sticks small rubber pads attached to wires on your pulse points on chest this gives a heart reading

They put the strap around the upper part of your arm and they pump it full of air, then it releases the air and that for the most time will tell your blood pressure where they can then see if you have high blood pressure or if you re in the hypertension mode.

Is there such a thing is that a physcian prescribes a dose for an antihypertensive quot;a pill day after dayquot; -

Wouldn t that cause rebound hypertension

Oh, I get it. You are trying to be funny. Well, please do not quit your day job.

Is Pitting Edema a sign of any type of a Cardiac Problem?? -

43yo, non smoking WF, no family hx except hypertension. I do not have high B/P. I have fibromyalgia, asthma, Osteoarthritis, chondromalacia patellae of both knees, gastric bypass. I have edema in my legs from knees down. This keeps happening off and on. Right now it is really bad, the pitting is 1+/2+ and my R is esp bad, even my foot is swollen and you can t see my ankle! I wonder if that chondro would cause this? I ask about Cardio because ppl will see me like this and say quot;Has your Dr had your heart checked out?quot; Once a Dr did a few blood studies but they were normal and I dont know what it was. I havent injured myself, I am on several meds but I have been on these same ones for a while now. My PCP has tx d this with Lasix in the past. I can go to the ER but dont know if they ll do anything since I dont have ins. . Please give me some answers and not just see your DR. I am an RN and I know this. I just dont want to go and it be normal with my knees.. etc.. It is really uncomfortable.

Pitting edema can be demonstrated by applying pressure to, for example, the skin of a swollen leg, by depressing the skin with a finger. If the pressing causes an indentation in the skin that persists for some time after the release of the pressure, the edema is referred to as pitting edema. Actually, any form of pressure, such as from the elastic part of socks, can induce the pitting of this edema. In non-pitting edema, which usually affects the legs or arms, pressure that is applied to the skin does not result in a persistent indentation. Non-pitting edema can occur in certain disorders of the lymphatic system such as lymphedema, which is a disturbance of the lymphatic circulation that may occur after a radical mastectomy, or congenital lymphedema. Another cause of non-pitting edema of the legs is called pretibial myxedema, which is a swelling over the shins that occurs in some patients with hyperthyroidism. Non-pitting edema of the legs is difficult to treat. Diuretic medications are generally not effective, although elevation of the legs periodically during the day and compressive devices may reduce the swelling. The focus of the rest of this article is on pitting edema. What causes pitting edema? Edema is caused by either systemic diseases, that is, diseases that affect the various organ systems of the body, or by local conditions involving just the affected extremities. The most common systemic diseases that are associated with edema involve the heart, liver, and kidneys. In these diseases, edema occurs primarily because of the body s retention of too much salt (which is the chemical compound sodium chloride). The excess salt holds excess water in the interstitial tissue spaces, where the retained surplus of fluid is recognized as edema. Idiopathic (of unknown cause) edema, also sometimes called cyclical edema, occurs most often in women and just prior to each menstrual period. The most common local conditions that cause edema are varicose veins and thrombophlebitis (a blood clot with inflammation of the veins) of the deep veins of the legs. These conditions can cause inadequate pumping of the blood by the veins (venous insufficiency). The resulting increased back-pressure in the veins forces fluid to leak into the interstitial tissue spaces, where the retained excess fluid is recognized as edema.

Any chronic lung disease will result pitting edema as well, heavy smoker with obstructed lung may develop edema too...Sitting wrong position will result it too...etc. There is really many causes, CHF is just one of it but it is potentially more dangerous and common find than other causes. Report Abuse

First, being an RN, you should demonstrate greater knowledge than you do. At any rate, you really do need to see a doctor because the conditions that cause pitting edema are vary serious-four that come to mind, allergies, cardiac(heart) problems(you identified), hepatic(liver) damage, and respiratory(lung) problems. Have your heart and liver enzymes, and blood gases tested. These tests may run you around $200.00-less if have connections and get them at cost.

It s hard for me a CHF patient to give advice to an RN. Edema can have many causes- Heart, kidneys... all of which warrant investigation. CHF, Congestive Heart Failure is definitely a cause of edema. If I called my cardiologist and told him I was swollen like you, I would be told to take a lasix, put on compression stockings and lay down with my legs elevated. Minimal fluids ( 4 cups per day) and NO sodium. It works like a charm, particularly if you get to it early. Good luck.

well...some edema maybe caused by cardiac problems such as Congestive Heart Failure (CHF). Right side heart failure may cause edema of the legs, liver and etc. and Left side heart failure usually strikes the pulmonary system and may cause pulmonary edema. Consult your M.D. Regards Member: http://PhilippineNursing.blogspot.com

GREETINGS, first off did you always have the edema or is that new since the gastric surgery? You said blood studies were normal but what about tests for vein problems? veinogram? It s amazing all the replies you got here and the RN s did not once mention lymphedema and the person who did, didn t have the right info. Pitting edema is from lymphedema, non-pitting edema is when the area hardens with fibrosis and is harder than a rock which occurs a long time after having untreated lymphedema. You could have lymphedema and in that case lasik is not recommended because it pushes the water part of lymph out and leaves behind the debris to become fibrotic. You do need a veinogram regardless of insurance or not, it s well worth paying for yourself so you are sure there are no blood clots or vein problems left over from the surgery. With your problems with the fibro, the muscles probably spasm alot, then you have the osteoarthritis, and the surgery for the gastric bypass, they cut into your abdomen I m assuming that s alot of areas affected that can block or impede the lymph from flowing, plus being obese before that put a strain on your system. You also have the autoimmune problems that come with lymphedema, but you do need to rule out veins first. You can be treated with complete/complex decongestive therapy which is a form of medical lymphatic massage therapy, then fitted with compression hose after the treatment is done. If your doctor does diagnose you with lymphedema, contact me and I ll help you find a therapist.

Edema is a general term for swelling in the body due to the buildup of excess fluid in the tissues. It generally occurs when the pressure on oxygen-poor blood in the veins increases, and the fluid portion of the blood is forced out of the veins and into the surrounding soft tissues. This expands or swells the tissues. Edema is not a condition itself, but is the symptom of an underlying condition. Edema may occur in different parts of the body due to a variety of underlying causes, only some of which may be serious. For example, edema in the legs and ankles may be related to heart failure. The most serious form of edema is pulmonary edema, a buildup of fluid in the lungs. Pulmonary edema is usually a sign of heart failure, in which the heart is not pumping well enough to meet the body’s demand for oxygen. Patients with pulmonary edema usually complain of shortness of breath. Edema can also be caused by factors such as medication use, burns, and conditions such as venous insufficiency. Venous insufficiency occurs when the veins of the leg no longer allow normal blood flow, usually because the valves in these veins stop functioning properly. Under normal circumstances, blood in the veins is only allowed to flow in one direction, back toward the heart. If, however, the valves are compromised for some reason, blood is allowed to flow backward, away from the heart. This raises blood pressure in the veins of the legs, which may lead to a variety of health problems, including edema, pain, discoloration or ulcers that do not heal. People who have a more serious form of edema (e.g., pulmonary edema) may also experience the following: Rapid and labored breathing Shortness of breath (dyspnea) Coughing, sometimes with frothy blood Bluish tint to the skin, lips, fingernails and other areas of the body (cyanosis) Cold extremities (e.g., cold feet) Sense of feeling suffocated

Hi, I am an RN too. I suppose it depends on a few things. Generally if you have some type of cardiac failure it can cause oedema in your lower legs as an intial symptom but go on to result in pulmonary oedema so you need to watch out for those signs. When I see patients with this they typically can some bloods done and have an increase in diuretics to see if it helps as a first line. You are quite young to have heart failure although by having a gastric bypass I imagine you may have been mordibly obese at one time which may have caused alot of pressure on your heart. The other thing I would be wary of would be your nutritional status. If you are low in protein it can result in a low albumin level resulting in loss of fluid from the blood into the interstital cells resulting in oedema. Gastric Bypass is well known to cause malnutrition so ask for this to be checked into. The other thing is that due to be being morbidly overweight for a long time you most like have caused damage to your venous return (valves in your veins are shot) due to the high pressure sustained over years in your lower limbs. Even if you dont have varicose veins this can still occur due to problems in your deeper veins. This can result in oedema in your lower legs. However, if it has been a sudden onset , if u have any other symptoms (SOB, increased heart rate) it is more likely that you have some degree of fluid overlaod from minor heart failure. The other thing to look for is kidney failure. You need to have bloods to get this checked. Just a little tip: if you put your legs up higher than your heart at around 6 pm you will drain off most the fluid and pee it out and that way you dont end up getting up all night once you put you legs up when you go to bed!) I hope you feel better soon. Go see your doctor as soon as possible..it is not an emergency but could get serious quickly. Isnt it terrible being an RN and being unwell - we make TERRILE patients - everything we learn just goes out the window and i need to be treated like a child. Goodluck

pitting edema is a dangerous sign of congested heart failure. fluid backs up into the plural spaces and distal areas of the heart because the heart is unable to take on all the back-up pressure from inadequate circulation. if you take your hand and push on the edema, and it takes more than 4 seconds to return to its normal position. you need to see a doctor and have your heart and lungs looked at. this is a serious early sign of CHF.

What is the danger of low pulse (52) with high BP 170/95? -

60 year old male. headache. On meds for hypertension, atrial fib and type 2 diabetes. Bp has been controlled by meds but sudden onset of increased BP and decrease in pulse rate has developed the last few days. Very tired.Had a spell of nausea and vomitting at onset. Normal pulse is usually 64 due to taking Lanoxin for heart problem.

It means his heart it beating really fast but not pumping the blood out to the body like it should be, which is probably the cause of the headache (lack of o2 to the brain) any pulse below 60 should be cause to notify the md especially since he is alreay on bp meds. just remebered these are some of the signs of shock which bascially means he s losing blood somewhere somehow... call a doc.

If your pulse slows, by definition your heart is beating slower. Best answer is wrong. It could be any number of things, dehydration for example. Talk to your doctor. Report Abuse

top number of bp is a little elevated and also i was told that by my doctor that if my pulse rate dropped below 50 to let him know immediately.. i would say see you doctor ASAP

PLEASE, go get taken care of. This is no time to be afraid of the doctor. You can be afraid, and be dead tomorrow, or be a big boy and go to the doctor. Tonight. Now. Do not wait. At least you have a warning. Take care of yourself. Why are you waiting? ?????

Any good home remedies? -

For high blood pressure or hypertension? There are prescriptions, but people either have to take these all their lives and/or they have side effects from what I hear.

honey and lemons or lemons with salt

High blood presure is a fairly easy one on the home remedy front. Garlic will sort out your clogged arteries a treat. If you can handle it just chop up a clove into small pieces, crush it with a spoon and down the hatch with a glass of water. If you cant handle that just add it in food you eat all the time.Unfortunatly you will be able to smell it on yourself but as a quick booster to get it down quick before maintaining a healthy lifestyle and keeping it low from then on its a superb choice. Second best is onions which also contain the sulphur (as does the garlic) which breaks down the filth in your arteries so your blood can get through easier thereby lowereing the blood preasure. These 2 work surprisingly fast and you will notice a huge difference in about a month. As long as your not piling in the big mac meals as well.

I was able to get off the meds for high blood pressure several years ago by eating lots of salads, less meat in the diet and by eating more fresh vegetables.I also try to exercise twice a day on the nordic track,or riding the bicycle. So far it works pretty well for me but everyone is different.I m still looking for that magic food that does it all.

garlic
