I think it s great that you are checking your BP and concerned about controlling it, if necessary. As others have said, BP constantly varies, so one high reading is not something to worry *too much* over. That said, I would suggest you ask your pharmacist to recommend an automated digital blood pressure cuff, so that you can take your BP when you are relaxed at home. (Get the kind of cuff that goes above the elbow, not the wrist.) They only cost about $50 and are well worth it, IMO. Sit in a chair with your feet on the floor and relax a few minutes before taking the reading. Morning is often best. One of the easiest dietary factors to control is your sodium intake. You may find that if you simply watch your sodium by reading food labels and not adding salt to foods you will be able to reduce your BP. Eating fruits high in potassium may also reduce your BP (oranges, bananas, etc.)
137-98 is a very good bp.. dont stress yourself
Just go and consult a doctor and do not worry toomuch that itself will make your blood pressure higher, Only a doctor can tell you the correct solution
When you take your blood pressure, you should be sitting or lying down for at least 30 minutes. If you were up moving around just prior to taking your BP then it is invalid. Take your pressure again after resting. If you are nervous or upset it can make your blood pressure higher.
will it is kinda high for your age but i think you should go see your Dr about this because it kinda bad to have it can cause many health problem like heart attack so i hope it become better :)
Stop worrying and go enjoy your short time on the planet!
You ve got the right idea. A one-time blood pressure is not enough to make any medical decisions upon. Check your blood pressure at least once a day for five days...preferably more than once a day. Be sure to note the time for each check. If anything significant was going on prior to the check...if it is elevated...note that too. If the majority of elevations are normal, then you might just call the doctor s office and ask whether you should make an appointment to come in. If there are very many elevations, I d just go ahead and make the appointment. Be sure to take your log of readings with you.
Yes, get checked. A diastolic reading of 98 at your age is quite high.
If you have not had your yearly check up, then you should go for a check up and tell the Dr your high reading. It might be a fluke but then it might not. The fluctuation is due to changing conditions like tension, worrying, anxiety, exercise, climate, etc. but only a Dr can look at the whole picture and know what is wrong or not.
Normal BP is 119/72. My Aunt has hypertension. But, i wouldn t diagnose it immediately. It could possibly be stress related. Next time you take it, try and relax for a few minutes. If it s still high, then i d go to the doctor. You could possibly have insulin resistance, which is a pre-diabetes quot;curse, quot; which i happen to have. But, my BP is normal, it could go either way. Just make sure you stay healthy!
Your top number is fine, its the bottom number that is a concern. Were you checking it at a store where you sit down at the machine or at home? Store machines are notorious for not being accurate. My advice, stop by either your doctors office or even the local fire department. You wont need an appointment, just stop in and ask them to check your blood pressure for you. If you are still in the high range, make and appointment for further evaluation. Dont brush this off, follow up on it.
you might have diabetics
You can t really diagnose hypertension until you ve had it measured on at least 3 separate occasions at a doctor s office. A single high reading doesn t mean much since your blood pressure tends to fluctuate and you may have just caught it at a spurious high value. Best bet would be to see your doctor and if it remains high then have it checked a couple more times to make the diagnosis.
yes-go to doctor-high blood pressure can cause heart attack-and should never be ignored.
