160/90 is pre-hypertension for sure.You should see a doctor if you are really concerned and or try changing you diet eating low fat foods, cut out refined sugar,salt and caffeine. Also eat lots of fruits, vegetables and drink lots of water. Then you need to get on an exercise program to strengthen your heart. Check out bodyforlife.com for an excellent program to buy into. It s a 12 week diet and exercise plan that will change your life. My bp used to be 160 over 90 and after the 12 week program I m at 106 over 72. Good luck.
Being afraid is one thing. That jacks up the pressure. It sounds like you are a candidate to be followed up for BP. Talk to your doctor. I know too many people who said that high BP naturally became them and nearly died. You don t want to follow in that path.
Taking your blood pressure so close together along with worry could cause an inflated number. Also the arm the pressure was taken on and who was taking the pressure may have something to do with it. If your normal blood pressure at previous checkups was this high and your doctor is not concerned I would try to relax. The bottom number is the amount of pressure in the vessels when the heart is at rest. The closer to 100 this number is the more dangerous. Check with your doctor, avoid salty foods and exercise with a doctor s supervision. Most of all try to relax
