I am getting headaches while I talk for few minutes continuously. At times I feel my tongue very heavy.? -

II am taking medicine for Hypertension. I also get pain at back of my neck and dizziness if I use my hands to lift any heavy objects, swim or play badminton, etc. My neck is very stiff always. I feel difficulty in talking, driving and also concentrating. if anyone has any answers then please help me.

Anti hypertension drugs have lots of side effects, not experienced by everyone, for example some reduce potassium levels which could give rise to some of the symptoms you describe. The best thing you can do is go back and talk to your doctor, maybe he can run some tests or change your medication. We can only guess not knowing you and your case history.

It may be the medication that s causing this! Try changing your diet and exercising to bring the hypertension under control. I don t mean stop taking the medicine, but look up its side effects online and other people s experiences taking it, and talk to your doctor.

could be brain demage from the hypertension

How safe is MSG and Aspartate? -

What if someone were to tell you that a chemical (MSG) added to food could cause brain damage in your children, and that this chemical could effect how your children s nervous systems formed during development so that in later years they may have learning or emotional difficulties? What if there was scientific evidence that these chemicals could permanently damage a critical part of the brain known to control hormones so that later in life your child might have endocrine problems? How would you feel? Suppose evidence was presented to you strongly suggesting that the artificial sweetener in your diet soft drink may cause brain tumors to develop, and that the number of brain tumors reported since the introduction of this widespread introduction of this artificial sweetener has risen dramatically? Would that affect your decision to drink these products and especially to allow your children to drink them? What if you could be shown overwhelming evidence that one of the main ingredients in this sweetener (aspartate) could cause the same brain lesions as MSG? Would that affect your buying decisions? And finally, what if it could be demonstrated that all of these types of chemicals, called excitotoxins, could possibly aggravate or even precipitate many of today s epidemic neurodegenerative brain diseases such as Parkinson s disease, Huntington s disease, ALS, and Alzheimer s disease? Would you be concerned if you knew that these excitotoxin food additives are a particular risk if you have diabetes, or have ever had a stroke, brain injury, brain tumor, seizure, or have suffered from hypertension, meningitis, or viral encephalitis? Would you also be upset to learn that many of the brain lesions caused by these products in your children are irreversible and can result from a SINGLE exposure of these products in sufficient concentration? How would you feel when you learn the food industry hides and disguises these excitotoxin additives (MSG and Aspartate) so they can t be recognized? Incredulous? Enraged? The fact is many foods are labeled as having quot;No MSGquot; but in fact not only contain MSG but also are laced with other excitotoxins of equal potency and danger. All of the above are true. And all of these well known brain toxins are poured into our food and drink by the thousands of tons to boost sales. These additives have NO OTHER purpose other than to enhance to TASTE of food and the SWEETNESS of various diet products. Hidden Sources Of MSG As discussed previously, the glutamate (MSG) manufacturers and the processed food industries are always on a quest to disguise the MSG added to food. Below is a partial list of the most common names for disguised MSG. Remember also that the powerful excitotoxins, aspartate and L-cystine, are frequently added to foods and according to FDA rules require NO LABELING AT ALL. * Food Additives that ALWAYS contain MSG * Monosodium Glutamate Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein Hydrolyzed Protein Hydrolyzed Plant Protein Plant Protein Extract Sodium Caseinate Calcium Caseinate Yeast Extract Textured Protein (Including TVP) Autolyzed Yeast Hydrolyzed Oat Flour Corn Oil

to the poster above, aspartate is one of the amino acids found in aspartame, along with phenylalanine.... MSG becomes a problem because the body makes it (glutamate) in sufficient amounts and it doesn t need to be added to the diet (I definitely stopped eating Ramen after an MRI showed breakdown of my blood-brain barrier, which excess excitotoxins can cause...)

:\ You re statement is one-sided... Corn oil? Come on, now... That s why many people only eat/drink ORGANIC food.. And you mis-spelled quot;Aspartatequot;... it s A-S-P-A-R-T-A-M-E! And many people know that this is bad for them. Thanks for the Public Service Announcement, though, Sherlock. [;

Anything containing Aspartame has always been banned in this house except as the ant killer for which it was developed initially.

Blood test results - another sample required? -

I have had blood tests done because of hypertension to test for liver function. The Full blood, glucose and cholesterol tests were ok but I have been asked to retest again (in 7 days) as the Doctor wanted to check kidney and liver function. This is all the info I can get from the receptionist, any idea what this could be about, is it something I should worry about ?

The amount of blood required for renal and liver tests is less than1 ml. So if the doctor wanted to add these tests, he or she could have added them to the samples they had collected previously for cholesterol. Either there was something slightly out of normal range in the liver function test which the doctor wants to confirm, or there was a problem with the sample at he lab, like they collected the wrong sample and can t add a kidney function test to the sample they had. If it was a serious problem the lab or doctor would most likely have asked for an immediate repeat to confirm results. You have a right to know why the tests are being repeated, even if, as is probably the case, there is little to be concerned about. Hope this helps

First, the receptionist is not allowed to give medical information so if you need details then you would need to see the doctor. Maybe there was a slight abnormality in the LFT that the doc thinks could just be a blip, a stage in your life, a testing machine having an off day etc. The further test is to see if that blip recurs. If it does your doc should explain it to you. Extra info, your high blood pressure could affect the working of the kidneys and liver by interferring with the blood flow. Just in case you wondered how it was related.

If you are concerned talk to your doctor.

Hepatic amp; renal function tests would be standard, so if they were omitted for any reason they would need to be done. Don t worry unless there is an abnormal result -- the importance of which would be explained.

My age is 34 i am diabetic, HT, can i take viagra ? -

My age is 34 and i am suffering from diabetes, Hypertension and taking medicine can i have viagra for better sex ? what will be the side effects of viagra on me? plz advise.

Viagra is a class of phophodiesterase inhibitor, also known as a vasodilator. it is cautioned in patients with cardiovascular conditions including hypertension. the reason being it may cause rebound tachycardia (fast heart rate) which will in turn increase your blood pressure and lead to vascular complications. viagra also causes other side effects such as flushing of the face, headache and a condition known as priapism. this can cause gangrene and necrosis of penile tissue leading to permanent erectile dysfunction. hope this helped...:)

joe m ... the guy just told you he has diabetes, DUH...sometimes diabetics cannot get an erection or sustain one for very long! If your taking meds for Hypertension and take viagra, you will have to be careful, maybe the doctor might suggest 1/2 tablet at first to see how you go.....you might suffer dizzy spells!

Well, my husband is 39 a diabetic and has cyalis for his ED issue, The doctor didnt have any problem perscribing it to him and gave him the choice between cyalis or viagra. So i dont see why not. Call the doc and get a script. And as for side effects.....who cares as long as the little guy perks up and starts working???? LOL

what i cant understand is why at 34 do u need viagra,at 34 i was so strong n hard i didnt need anything for better sex apart from a young lady, unless you suffer from erectile dysfunction that is u cant get an erection , and at 34 i find this hard to blieve, viagra will do nothin for ya n if u need viagra for better sex at your age, send your girlfriends to me n i;ll show em wat sex is all about

If at 34 your very young to be experencing ED as well as hypertension. It is important that you understand why this is happening be it physical or emotional can find a different corrective action.

Consult a doctor (and don t rely on online quacks you get on Yahoo).

Exercise makes muscles hypertrophy, can it be done in old age as 79 as I am? -

I am suffering from obesity, and hypertension, diabetes mellitus, I want change me into a very strong man and reject my fat in the abdomen and muscle hypertrophy, is it possible?

Yes indeed! By all means feel free to train with weights! They have been proven beneficial at any age. Start out with light weights. I would recommend a book call Body for Life by Bill Phillips.

At this age one can prevent to some extent quot;atrophy quot;( loss of muscle ) but should not try for quot;hypertrophy quot;.Ageing process can not be reversed.

please seek medical help before undergoing any of the above you mentioned... it is better for you to be checked first... although... exercise indeed is good for you

Is my cholesterol linked to chest pain/angina? -

I am 17 years old, 5 0 and 135 lbs. I am a little overweight and my LDL cholesterol level is at 130.4. The doctor s office told me that normal is between 63 and 130. The past few days, typically after I eat lunch, my chest tightens up, my heart seems to beat faster, and my face feels red and flush and breathing becomes more difficult. I wouldn t think my cholesterol is high enough to cause chest pain, but what do you think? I also have a very high family history of heart disease, high cholesterol, and hypertension.

Better see a cardiologist, keeping your history in view. The earlier the better.

you have given some information but it is not enough to form an opinion. your ldl cholesterol is indeed quite high for your age but other factors such as level of good cholesterol (HDL), triglyceride etc also are important. the problems you face may not have anything to do with heart at all. you must see a physician , get a good exam and simple tests including cardiac rhythm test (EKG, Holter ) done. Read about Framingham cardiac risk score by googling it. Don t get scared. just get tested and don t simply blame your weight for this and start losing weight without getting checked out. i m sorry to sound preachy. i have a 17 year old son. God bless.

In this case, I think your mildly elevated cholesterol and your chest pain are unlikely to be related. The combination of time (years and years) as well as other risk factors - diabetes, smoking, elevated cholesterol, family predisposition, and high blood pressure all combine to make heart disease worse. Now despite your chest pain being unlikely to be from coronary disease - it still is not normal and still lacks a diagnoisis. I would discuss this with my primary doctor. He/she may want to do some additional testing, but it still does not sound likely to be cardiac in nature. Finally, given your youth and regardless of what this turns out to be there is no time like the present to adopt some healthy life habits - good wholesome eating and regular exercise go a good long way to contributing to your health. You d be amazed at the number of people who say they can t do exercise now because they are too deconditioned. Good luck.

You should be talking to your DR. not asking questions here.

Well there are always chances of it being link to high cholesterol, but its always good to add fruits to your diet now.. Eat like apple, blue berries and orange...

Not not at this time with what you said! But because you are having family history of heart disease you may in future be a victim of heart disease. At this point of time it seems that most of your described symptoms are related to intake of food and after taking the food so it has some relation to your digestive tract !There may be a gaseous problem and may be costo chondritis that is swelling in the coastal cartilage and may be indigestion !You should eat very slowly and with perfect mastication and SHOULD AVOID NON VEGITARIAN COMPLETELY ! Animals are not for mans eating !For healthy and happy living be 100% vegitarian.,Take medicine like albendazole for worms in the abdomen.Alwaays YouRsmE

the two could be linked. you should tell your doctor about this immediately so that they can put you on medication or something. are you eating healthy?
