Questions on Menapause.? -

I am in my late 40 s and am beginning to experience the first signs of menapause. So far so good. Because I also suffer from hypertension, it means I cannot take H.R.T. I m always hearing about how awful menapause is, are there any positive stories out there from ladies who have experienced a smooth transition. I eat alot of sprouts, mushrooms, lentils, sourdough bread, soy products to get a natural boost of Estrogen. I d like to hear from you ladies please, thanks.

I myself have not been through menopause, but I am a mammographer and also do bone density exams. I have met a lot of people that hae transitioned into menopause smoothly without needing any type of HRT. Everybody is different though. You need to check out the options with your doctor. Outweigh risk vs. benefits. Your doctor will help you find what is best for you. If you re not having any problems, then you should just let things be until you need. Good luck with your transition. It should be a happy thing!

At what point is High Blood Pressure too high? -

I have essential hypertension, and I just checked my BP. It s pretty high...at what point (diastolic/systolic) should I contact a doctor? I m on Micardis HCT, but it doesn t seem to be working right now. Thanks.

I don t know anything about this Jacqui, but here s a chart I found that it pretty helpful. It looks like you are in the moderate stage 2 headed for severe at the BP you gave. :( diastolic is the measurement of your blood pressure when the heart is resting (between heart beats)...I don t think they go up and down in sink. I think you re okay for tonight, but might want to visit the doctor tomorrow if it doesn t go back down to your normal. Here s some more info: http://blood-pressure.emedtv.com/diastol...

High blood pressure: Also known as hypertension, high blood pressure is, by definition, a repeatedly elevated blood pressure exceeding 140 over 90 mmHg -- a systolic pressure above 140 with a diastolic pressure above 90. Chronic hypertension is a quot;silentquot; condition. Stealthy as a cat, it can cause blood vessel changes in the back of the eye (retina), abnormal thickening of the heart muscle, kidney failure, and brain damage. For diagnosis, there is no substitute for measurement of blood pressure. Not having your blood pressure checked (or checking it yourself) is an invitation to hypertension. No specific cause for hypertension is found in 95% of cases. High blood pressure is treated with regular aerobic exercise, weight reduction (if overweight), salt restriction, and medications.

140 / 90 amp; above is high - but yours is really high - have you skipped any meds today? eaten something very salty? you maybe retaining fluid also..... check your legs amp; ankles (HCT) is a diuretic to flush out fluids if you check your BP too soon after a meal it will be elevated lie or sit quietly for about 30 minutes then check your BP again - your BP can shoot up suddenly for lots of reasons - but it becomes dangerous when it remains high or uncontrolled for extended periods of time (like days or weeks) check your BP before bed again tonight amp; then in the AM when you get up if its still off the chart - call your doctor - your meds might need adjusting

175/115 is pretty high. You need to contact your doctor tomorrow and let him/her know. Is the medication new? If so, the MD may try some other medication such as atenolol or another. You need to be extra careful and go to the ER if you start experiencing severe headaches, chest pain, shortness of breath, sudden onset of blurred vision or ringing in the ears along with that blood pressure. Keep monitoring it

That is too high, try to sit down, small deep breaths and just say to yourself, Clear the Mechanism, with closed eyes, this really works, continue to say it, till you clear your mind....trust me it works.... it just brushes all out of your mind, no its not stupid at all. it works for meditation, and will bring your blood pressure down. Legit::right now, that is way too high.......ask your doctor to see if he will put you on Diovan 320mg.......this med really works well, I am on it and my blood pressure runs 124/.78 this is good.....but if I don t take that one pill per day, it will go up some, I am tiny, but ever since I got diabetes 23 yrs ago, high blood pressure at the same time.. hope you get to feeling better, high blood pressure will also give you heart bumps and headaches, so relax as much as you can, and call your doctor. get to feeling better okay, good luck

I be feeling fine, then I go to the doctor and have BP 175/115. Everybody goes into shock. But, It happens often. Man get yourself straight. If symptoms occur go to the ER. I don t what to tell you. We must take better care of ourselves

Why don t you take a couple of aspirin and sit and rest.......try not to worry.......your plenty high.......but not outrageous. Did you eat anything like chinese foood with a lot of salt tonight. Good luck and relax

At THAT point. 175/115 means you are ready to have a stroke or heart attack at any moment. If that is what it really is, you need to go to the emergency room.

yeah thats a little to high to leave untreated. I would see a dr.

My kidneys are two different sizes? -

so I went for a pelvic/renal ultrasound because I have been having hypertension, tachycardia, and chest pain. My right kidney is 16 cm, and my left kidney is 10 cm. One of my kidneys (I am assuming it s the right) is 75 cubic centimeters in volume, and the other one is 45 cubic centimeters. Any idea what it could indicate? I looked at the copies of my sonogram amp; it all came weird. The kidneys, aorta, pancreas area, and IVC all have artifacts on them, as well as the Echocardiogram, bah. I was born with urinary reflux (grade III in one kidney, grade IV in another), and I am going to see the doctor to see what the radiologist said about the ultrasounds.

I think its a normal finding but I could be wrong. Many people are born with just one kidney.

Childhood obesity? -

1. Nowadays doctors and health specialists say that children need to be on a good diet and get all the nutrition that they need but as the reports show, the obesity rate increases in children which causes hypertension at early age. Since we really take good care of our children at early age, why is the obesity rate is keep increasing?

The problem starts at school cafeterias. They eat pizzas, hamburgers, and other high fat foods that contribute to obesity. There are no healthy alternatives. Not to mention that most kids don t get enough exercise after school. Most kids play video games all night which also contribute to obesity. Also, 90% of what you find in a grocery store is garbage. If you re a label watcher like I am, you ll notice that everything has high fructose corn syrup or is made with enriched flour. Both of these ingredients are poison to the body. Lastly, I blame childhood obesity on two working parents. When both parents are overworked and tired, the easiest thing to do is to stop at McDonald s to feed the family. I see a long line of cars at every fast food drive thru every single day. This is probably the main reason kids are fat now; they are not getting a home cooked meal.....you re welcome!

The reason is that the info you are being given is not correct. Low fat normally means high sugar (either simple or in the form of complex carbs, but still ends up as sugar). Go back a hundred years and see what people ate - Lard, dripping, butter, cream, raw milk, cod liver oil, organ meat. Obesity, diabetes, and heart disease (all syptoms of the same problem) were not prevelant. Now we eat highly processed grains, margarine, highly processed vegetable oils, People feed their children low fat thinking it is good for them, when lipids are important for brain health. Instead they get processed crap loaded with toxic addatives. Obestity, diabetes, CHD,cancer, mental disorders and anti social behavour abound, and continue to get worse Quite simply the advice given is aimed at making profits for large food manufacturing companies, not what is best for our bodies http://www.westonaprice.org

When they learn temper tantrums=more snacks they get silly ideas, most parents think they re being nice when they give treats every half-hour. It s basically poisoning them.

Mcdonalds, burger king, pizza hut, soft drinks, and lazy parents who no longer cook or monitor what their children are doing.

Doctor s will advise a good diet for children, but few kids get it. Most are fed over processed food (often very high in fat and sugar). Kids drink to much sugar laden drinks that also cause the problem. Then to top it all off they don t exercise (physical play). It is the combination of all these things that is causing obese kids.

How would i use the nursing process within the community for this patient? -

patient A is 79 years old and has chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a condition which she has had for the last 10 years. She has just been discharged from hospital after being treated as an in - patient for a chest infection. She has been prescribed a 7 day course of oral antibiotics and a reducing course of oral steroids. She has also been prescribed salbutomol via an inhaler which she must take using the spacer. This is the first time she has been prescribed this medication. She lives alone in a 1st floor warden aided flat. Her husband died 3 years ago and her daughter (her only living relative) lives some distance away. She relies heavily on the warden and her friends from the local community centre for company, shopping and social support. Patient A worries a lot because her vision is not as good as it used to be and she feels unsteady on her feet. She is not able to leave the house on her own. Past Medical History COPD since 1997 Type II Diabetes diagnosed 1997. Hypertension 1994 Medication No known allergies Salbutomol inhaler Cefuroxime 500mg BD Metformin 500mg TDS Bendrofluazide 2.5mg OD Aspirin 75mg OD Atorvastatin 10mg OD Prednisolone reducing dose from 50mg – 5mg over two weeks Vital Signs BP 150/90 Pulse 90 reg Respirations 20 breaths/min HBA1C – 8%

In her stats, it is obvious that she has some breathing issues. Her B/P is a little high, she has diabetes as well. Is she overweight? She is also taking aspirin - hopefully under a doctor s supervision - so I wonder if she also has CHF. There must be a home-nursing service in the area and perhaps they could come once a day to be sure that the meds are being used correctly and keep track of the Diabetes, CHF and COPD. The state offices can recommend a nursing service if she is low-income. Good luck.

I know that this is your homework and it is time consuming, but it is so very important that you do it and learn how the nursing process works. Look up nursing process in Wikipedia ... it wil help you to understand it and what you need to think about to answer this question. I don t think that Yahoo answers is really the best place to ask a question that is technical and involves a complex answer, as this one certainly does !

Regarding my Blood pressure? -

So here is my question, my normal BP is 130/90. im 21 years old, my family had a history of hypertension. and i know the normal BP is 120/80. 7 months ago i went to a laboratory to have my test regarding my BP, and all the result was within the range of normal.. so is this BP ok with my age and body? please help.

They (health professionals) are getting to the point where they would like your blood pressure 110/70. given your family i would see your family doctor and have him/her follow it up :)

I had 187/110 you will survive. I am on a hypertensive drug now and mine is great. You are 21 and I don t know weight of You so to Me it looks fine.

Whats so bad about salt? -

I just read a Time article about children s foods that advises us to cut out the salt. Kids generally don t have hypertension. What s so bad about salt?

they are worried about the sodium, and hypertension - as you know. SOME kids do have hypertension. but the real reason they want to reduce salt in kids food is so they won t develop a taste for it, which would lead to them using more and more salt as they age. If they are used to the taste of unsalted food, there won t be the increasing salt use.

There has never been ANY link proven between salt and high blood pressure. Salt is very necessary to the functions of your body - you can overdo anything of course. Having children on low salt diet to me sounds like dangerous nonsense.

They were talking about table salt. I recommend sea salt Redmond Brand. You need to make sure it s not from polluted water. Anyway, most people feed their kids junk food which has way to much salt(table).....so, you don t need to give them extra. All of that food store chemical food has depleted manufactured salt. Sea salt however, is healthy. Try to buy foods in a health food store that when they have salt it is sea salt. Check out the health benefits of sea salt on the web. When I get a muscle pull I put a teaspoon of sea salt into a half a glass of water, since it gives you minerals the muscle pull goes away within minutes! It s a life saver!

Salt raises blood pressure so u are more likely to suffer from strokes, cardiac arrests etc. I have low blood pressure though so wherever i go i carry a sachet of salt with me in case i feel weak. It all depends on the person. Older people are advised to eat less salt than children because they are more prone to heart attacks etc. But salt effects children in the same way so its better if they do have high blood pressure to cut it out. Its all to do with whats hereditary. Hope i helped!

The key factor in salt is the Sodium (N), it is bad for you to take in to much of this, and you can feel the effects in things such as your hands when you have to much sodium in your system. The Chloride (Cl) isn t really the problem so much...

no, it is NOT fat. it can raise your blood pressure like crazy though and put you at risk for more heart diseases. my dad and grandfather has a heart disease and when I was seven years old my dad s doctor told my parents to make sure they watch how much salt I eat. the more you salt things when you re a child..the more you ll do it when you re older.

I think too much sodium can possibly create an imbalance of the fluids in ANYONE S body...child or adult, as well as contribute to the contraction and relaxation of muscles.

raises blood pressure and kills your liver. When you go to a restaurant and pile ur food with salt thats STUPID they already have salt in it and its really bad for you, same with any other food.

Too much will kill you. It ll raise the blood pressure and an individual is 3x more likely to have a heart attack or a stroke

well salt is basicly all fat and it raises blood preser and it clogs some arteries if there is too much but i dont think some will kill you or anything

all it is is fat!

Epilepsy? Do I Have It? -

Someone help me out... My bp was 200/100. I had a seizure. Do I have epilepsy or did the hypertension get the best of me? I never had a seizure before, I rarely have headches. I m so thrown by this, idk what to do! I know epilepsy is very managable, I have 2 friends who have had it for years. They work full time and they both drive... its virtually unnoticeable. I know because they told me. What should I do? I m scared and confused.

It had to have been hypertension. I have epilepsy myself. Never has my b/p gone sky high like that while having a seizure. I don t have headaches at all I can t ever tell when one is coming on. So not all seizures are associated with headaches people have all different kinds of quot;aurasquot; as doctors call them. Of course it is virturally unnoticable! I have lost my drivers license twice due to this but I don t consider it a set back or anything. I work full time now have a great job, I look at it as I have epilepsy but it doesn t have me! Go to the doctor if you are in any doubt they will run some tests!

possible hypertenision, if you have another one, see a neruologist. asap. my younger brother had them when he was younger. if somebody is timing it, make sure that they dont go over 2 minutes if they do call an ambulance. dont overly stres about it though.

Two days ago my fiance was diagnosed with epilepsy. I am going to assume you went to the hospital for your seizure. They will run an eeg and an ekg where it will run the waves of your brain and see if it is abnormal of a typical person. You will have to meet with a neurologist who will give you the results. Best of luck, medication can completely stop your life, so you have to make sure it doesn t get out of hand. Hopefully you live in a medical marijuana state like we do because it is one of the only known medications of epilepsy that will not stop your life. Your friends are lucky that the medication does not debilitate them.

BRAIN STEM HAEMMORHAGE? -

my aunt is hospitalised of brainstem bleed with left cerebellar haemmorage and pontine haemorrage due to hypertension for the past few days after a critical surgery called craniectomy, tracheostomy she recovered with gain of consiousness she is able recognize persons, move her limbs but still she is unable to get up or walk or talk, what will happen to her in future will she be able to regain a normal life, will stem cell therapy help her

Ask the nurse assigned to your aunt. The doctors who are caring for her will know her exact condition. If you cannot actually visit Aunty in the hospital, call a family member who is with her, and see if your aunt will let the doctor explain it to you on the phone. She might not be able to talk because of the breathing tube used during surgery. She might not be allowed to walk because the doctors want to give healing time to the incision sites, and time for drainage before letting her up and around. Don t get too worked up about it, seek out medical advice before jumping to conclusions.

My mom is 60 and has been healthy, but she her systolic pressure has been elevated.? -

She has been on a blood pressure medicine (I don t know which one), but it did not lower her systolic. She has eliminated salt, alcohol and fried foods. She has also increased her exercise. Her BMI and cholesterol levels are exactly where they should be, so it is confusing. I researched Isolated Systolic Hypertension, but it still does not really fit. Her doctor does not seem to think that it is that serious, but it bothers me. My two questions are: Do you have any suggestions for what this may be or places of research? Why hasn t the medicine worked?

You are correct many cases have high systolic BP, but it comes down with time, however an anxiety pill solvers the problem. I have come across several and they do very well e.g 180/80mm Hg, the patient didn t have a good night sleep, your doctor will come out with the solution.

Hypertension (high blood pressure) can be genetic so this could be the case with your mom. That being said, she is doing the right thing by trying to control it through lifestyle changes... being healthier overall is a good thing! Her doctor may try her on a different medication. Some additional information can be found here: luck to you and your mom.

The mean blood pressure is a lot more important than just the systolic. As long as the medication has decreased her mean pressure, and her systolic is within acceptable range, her risk of complications is low.

Medical Benefits of Ramadan ? -

Medical Benefits of Ramadan by Shahid Athar, M.D. Most Muslims do not fast because of medical benefits but because it has been ordained to them in the Quran. The medical benefits of fasting are as a result of fasting. Fasting in general has been used in medicine for medical reasons including weight management, for rest of the digestive tract and for lowering lipids. There are many adverse effects of total fasting as well as so-called crash diets. Islamic fasting is different from such diet plans because in Ramadan fasting, there is no malnutrition or inadequate calorie intake. The caloric intake of Muslims during Ramadan is at or slightly below the national requirement guidelines. In addition, the fasting in Ramadan is voluntarily taken and is not a prescribed imposition from the physician. Ramadan is a month of self-regulation and self-training, with the hope that this training will last beyond the end of Ramadan. If the lessons learned during Ramadan, whether in terms of dietary intake or righteousness, are carried on after Ramadan, it is beneficial for one s entire life. Moreover, the type of food taken during Ramadan does not have any selective criteria of crash diets such as those which are protein only or fruit only type diets. Everything that is permissible is taken in moderate quantities. The only difference between Ramadan and total fasting is the timing of the food; during Ramadan, we basically miss lunch and take an early breakfast and do not eat until dusk. Abstinence from water during this period is not bad at all and in fact, it causes concentration of all fluids within the body, producing slight dehydration. The body has its own water conservation mechanism; in fact, it has been shown that slight dehydration and water conservation, at least in plant life, improve their longevity. The physiological effect of fasting includes lower of blood sugar, lowering of cholesterol and lowering of the systolic blood pressure. In fact, Ramadan fasting would be an ideal recommendation for treatment of mild to moderate, stable, non-insulin diabetes, obesity and essential hypertension. In 1994 the first International Congress on quot;Health and Ramadanquot;, held in Casablanca, entered 50 research papers from all over the world, from Muslim and non-Muslim researchers who have done extensive studies on the medical ethics of fasting. While improvement in many medical conditions was noted; however, in no way did fasting worsen any patients health or baseline medical condition. On the other hand, patients who are suffering from severe diseases, whether diabetes or coronary artery disease, kidney stones, etc., are exempt from fasting and should not try to fast. There are psychological effects of fasting as well. There is a peace and tranquility for those who fast during the month of Ramadan. Personal hostility is at a minimum, and the crime rate decreases. Muslims take advice from the Prophet who said, quot;If one slanders you or aggresses against you, say I am fasting. quot; This psychological improvement could be related to better stabilization of blood glucose during fasting as hypoglycemia after eating, aggravates behavior changes. There is a beneficial effect of extra prayer at night. This not only helps with better utilization of food but also helps in output. There are 10 extra calories output for each rikat of the prayer. Again, we do not do prayers for exercise, but a mild movement of the joints with extra calorie utilization is a better form of exercise. Similarly, recitation of the Quran not only produces a tranquility of heart and mind, but improves the memory. Therefore, I encourage my Muslim patients to fast in the month of Ramadan, but they must do it under medical supervision. Healthy adult Muslims should not fear becoming weak by fasting, but instead it should improve their health and stamina.

I am not Muslim but I do follow your writings and thank you for posting here. You are very informative. Some might grumble about your posts because it d be a stretch to call them questions but I do believe (and hope) most would agree that it s all ok. Best wishes to you.

What could cause someone with autoimmune disorders to be unable to eat for months without vomiting or diarrhea -

My friend, age 37, was diagnosed with fibromyalgia a few years ago. This was following a botched lumbar fusion surgery for degenerative disk disease. Then, she was later diagnosed with diabetes, hypertension, carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis and, finally, lupus. Not long after the lupus diagnosis a year ago, she began to have a lot of stomach trouble. She has just as many bad days as good. She can t seem to eat anything that doesn t cause diarrhea and/or vomiting shortly after, and she s lost a lot of weight. It wears her out both physically and mentally. Don t know if this has anything to do with it, but when this first started she was so financially strapped that all she would eat at practically every meal was a bowl of cereal, maybe a banana and some juice. She s now trying to eat more of a variety, but with the same results. Sometimes, she can t even drink water without throwing up. She s been hospitalized once for this, has undergone many tests, but so far has gotten no answers.

Before I was diagnosed with SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus) with nephritis, I went through a lot of things... including loss of appetite and weight. I found out that it was because of my going anemic and the introduction of Celebrex only worsened my condition further by having hairloss, nausea, and my poly-articular arthritis remained unrelieved. Mere scent of cooked rice or a small gulp of water were enough to make me throw up, so I can very well relate to your friend where the lupus-side is concerned. Medications for most autoimmune diseases can wreak havoc in one s stomach. Those combinations, more often than not, have side effects that cause increased/decreased appetite, nausea, diarrhea, fainting spells, photo-sensitivity, tender muscles, osteoporosis, bone problems, skin problems, etc. All these I have experienced already. Tell your friend to change doctors if she feels she s not getting enough help to her many conditions. Most specialists would either dismiss or up the ante for people with autoimmune diseases, and that s not helping anyone. As for her loss of appetite, it might help some salt-free soda crackers with sugar-free fruit spreads. Herbal tea with no sugar or lemonade. Cranberry juice is also a good one. Flavored water may be acceptable as well. And, if she can lessen her potassium-rich food (potatoes, bananas, mangoes, papaya, peaches, cantaloupe, oranges) intake, it can be helpful as well. Good luck and I hope your friend gets better soon. Also, tell her to seek God s help through prayer and meditation. :)

She may need to be tested for Crohns disease. Immediately.

Hi, I m sorry that your friend is so very sick. people with lupus and autoimmune disorders have many overlapping conditions that make you feel worse and the medications have many side effects from swelling to weight loss and loss of appetite to constant eating. Gluten sensitivity and Celiac Diesease is also an autoimmune disorder that your friend should start a discussion with her Rheumatologist about. Also, if she is taking any type of vitamin supplement, her doctor should know because it all has an interaction when combined with her regular meds. Keep communicating with her Rheumatologist open and keep on top of this. You are your best advocate, no one will do this better than you. Good luck.

You mentioned many possible causes for your friend s loss of weight, including starving herself with only a bowl of cereal and a glass of juice. No wonder she lost weight. By the way, her weight loss could be linked to anorexia or schizophrenia, sometimes brought about by a severe rheumatic disease. Lupus is extremely serious, potentially deadly. It can be treated with antibiotics, just like any other rheumatic disease. Rheumatic diseases are the result of a defective gene and collagen inflammation, often from a chronic infection. Collagen is present throughout the body, from the eyes, skin and joints to the heart. Hence, the multiplicity of symptoms, depending on the location of the most affected internal organs or body parts. I have had seronegative rheumatoid arthritis for more than 27 years. The telling signs of seronegative rheumatoid arthritis are the following: - Joint pain in the feet (or cracking ankles) in the early 20 s or late teens; - Fatigue, especially after a moderate exercise like a 30 minute walk; - Blood test showing a negative or low level of Rheumatoid factor; - Joint deformities of the fingers, after a few years, a specific sign of rheumatoid arthritis; - Consecutive X-Rays, over several years, showing bone erosion, a consequence of rheumatoid arthritis; - Generalized arthritis, involving the whole body; - Elevated levels of C-Reactive protein and Sedimentation rate, as evidenced in blood tests. NSAIDs like Voltaren, COX-2 inhibitors like Celebrex, acetaminophen like Tylenol, and codeine are all used to control inflammation and relieve the pain of arthritis. Regular exercise like walking, biking and swimming is also helpful for most patients. Make sure that your friend is not overweight as carrying too much weight can only increase the pain of arthritis in the supporting joints of the hips, knees, ankles and feet. For any form of arthritis, your friend should consult an Orthopaedist who will order blood tests, joint scans and X-Rays to better diagnose the type of arthritis from which she suffers. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons at maintains a public online directory where you can find the address and phone number of orthopaedists who belong to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Orthopaedists are listed by geographic location and family name, inside the USA and in most countries. The membership directory of the AAOS is located at: disease could be a possibility. Ask the doctor to test your friend for the bacteria causing Lyme disease. Are there any other cases of arthritis or rheumatic diseases among your friend s relatives? Chronic forms of arthritis are usually prevalent in families where a defective gene is passed on by parents to their children. There are a few hundred types of arthritis and rheumatic diseases. The good news is that science is progressing rapidly in its understanding of rheumatic diseases. Antibiotics are now used to achieve full remissions for at least 40%, if not 65% of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. For more info, your friend should join our group at: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/ant...

She needs a complete work up to see whats going on. She may have hidden allergies that are contributing to her problems. She could have all sorts of deficiency s that are contributing to her problems. She really needs a full team of doctors searching for all the possible connections between her health issues, treatments , and yes maybe her psychological issues that may be causing this.

Cardiac or Psychiatric review? ER scenario (Med students).? -

Jack is a 28 yr old sedentary male: pale, thin (non smoker) with a history of anxiety and unexplained chest pain and tachycardic events. He has had one event of SVT recorded on 24hr holter. All other events seen in ER have been sinus rhythm. He lives at home with his parents who care for him. He rarely goes out the home due to extreme fatigue, dizziness and a flu like feeling which he attributes to his condition . He is not depressed and has been refered to the local mental health team who report he has Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and associated Dysautonomia, (presumed to be due to inactivity). There is little on offer in terms of treatment - apart from a raised pulse of 90 sitting and a pronounced tachycardia upon standing, - all clinical observations are unremarkable. He has previously undergone an Angiogram in the past, which was normal. Before the procedure, Jack reported he felt rather freaked out and a supine pulse of 120bpm was observed. Of note was the procedure was stopped half way through due to an inappropriate sinus tachycardia (IST) of 170bpm before LV could be assessed. He was given IV Midazolam as a sedative and the procedure stopped. The cardiologist at his previous Hospital feels confident Jack does not suffer from CHD due to his age, normal BP, saturation readings, no signs of oedema, normal diet. He does not wish to repeat the procedure for safety reasons. Jack is admitted to Hospital several months later at midnight following a complaint of sudden onset severe chest pain, shortness of breath and tachycardia. He reports he was not exerting at the time of onset and was simply sitting at his computer . On admission, he appears nervous, keen to explain his symptoms in detail and wants to know when it will stop . He sees a Doctor at approx 12.30 am as a priority 2 case. Supine his observations were as follows: --------------------------------------... Heart rate 135 bpm Blood pressure 169/142 Respiration rate 16 Sa 02 is 99% Peak flow reading 450 (predicted 640). Q Wave II amp; III changes are shown on ECG Chest clear: A/t = bilaterally Temp: 36.5 Awake amp; Orientated Complaint: --------------- C/O tight chest pain centrally radiating to the back. Anxious ++ Diagnosis: --------------- Chest tightness, tachycardia amp; hypertensive on admission. Gradually settled. Given 5mg Diazepam (refused 10mg). Still appears anxious amp; describes symptoms of anxiety very well, but denies any psychiatric problem. ECG = Sinus tachycardia (I think Q wave was due to anxiety?). Refer to family doctor only. --------------------------------------... QUESTION: Jack denies he is having a panic attack and insists he has a physical problem, despite admitting feeling very anxious due to his symptoms. He remains calm and polite, yet the medical staff are concerned at his diastolic readings which are abnormal and do not wish to discharge him until this has settled. 5mg Diazepam is given to Jack orally after his sustained hypertension and chest pain is observed for 30 mins in triage. He takes approximately 2 hours to feel calmer and report his chest pain has resolved. He says the medication has made him feel stoned and sleepy . 30 mins later, his observations are: --------------------------------------... Heart rate 128 bpm Blood pressure is 138/85 The medical staff feel it is now safe to discharge Jack back home and feel a referral is un-necessary. He has been in Hospital triage - 2hrs 30 mins. In less than 300 words explain: --------------------------------------... A) If you refer him for Psychiatric or Cardiac Review before discharge. b) Note why you think Q waves changes are important in your decision. c) Diazepam reduced hypertension amp; chest pain in Jack. Why? d) Is there any real evidence of Ischemic pain in the absence of CHD? e) Is Jack presenting with an IST or a Tachycardia due to anxiety? --------------------------------------... Thank you - tough one, huh?!

Well my answer isn t going to be 300 words, I ll leave that to you. His cardiac symptoms have not been adequately evaluated. Perhaps he needs to have a stress cardiolyte.. His BP and heart rate are high and of great concern. I would do a work up for the cause of his hypertension. You state he is calm and but his BP swings from quite high to normal. I ve seen this before in patients who have phenochromocytoma, a tumour on his adrenal glands.Since he has had a prolonged episode of chest pain why didn t they draw bloodwork and check his cardiac enzymes. They should of done a Troponin test at least. To send him home without doing that is negligence. He should also have a CBC done incase he is anemic. His inferior Q wave changes are a source of concern, did he have a previous MI. He hasn t had an echocardiogram to look for any structural problems with his heart or a stress test. The stress test would be difficult because of his high heart rate, they could try a stress cardiolyte..Anxiety can be a normal reaction to his physical symptoms and the Valium just helped to relax him. Since his angiogram was quot;normalquot; I can understand why the cardiologist ruled out any problems with his heart but he could have syndrome x or (it s a stetch), coronaryartery spasm. He has been diagnosed with IST perhaps he should be reffered to a cardiac electrophysiologist for assessment of this problem. There are no ecg changes of ischemia on the ecg. Regarding psych, only after he has had all investigation of his cardiac problems. I am not familiar with a refferal for quot;Cardiac Reviewquot; He does have a documented arrythmia and unstable BP so yes, it sounds like he needs all the suport he can get to be less anxious. He has a documented arrythmia which I feel is made worse by his anxiety. I would not discharge him without knowing the results of at least 2 sets of cardiac enzymes are negative. Q waves are also important because they indicate the possibility of an old myocardial infarct. He should be closely monitored by his family Dr,who should investigate his hypertension symtoms.Take care, Donna

id be worried re a Pulmonary Embolus causing his tachcardia and Q waves

What diagnostic tests and medications are needed for this patient? -

A 62-year old male(non-smoker, no known allergies) has the following medical conditions: lt;Anginagt; Characteristics of angina commonly include a sensation of pressure, heavy weight, burning, or tightness over the sternum or near to it. The pain may radiate to, or occassionally be limited to, the left arm, shoulder, or other areas. The sensation gradually increases in intensity and then gradually disappears with rest. The duration is usually between 30 seconds and 30 minutes. lt;Hypertensiongt; Hypertension is defined by persistent elevation of arterial blood pressure. lt;Hyperlipidaemiagt; Hyperlipidemia is defined as an elevation of one or more of the following: cholesterol, cholesterol esters, phospholipids or triglycerides. Abnormalities of plasma lipids can result in a predisposition to coronary, cerebrovascular, and peripheral vascular arterial disease. He is taking the following medications: Irbesartan 300mg mane(what does quot;manequot; mean?) Used for treatment of hypertension and prevention of renal disease progression in patients with type 2 diabetes, hypertention and microalbuminuria. Gemfibrozil 600mg bd(twice daily) Used in treatment of severe hypertriglyceridaemia, mixed hyperlipidaemia and dyslipidaemia associated with diabetes, and used to reduce risk of coronary heart disease in hypercholesterolaemia. Glyceryl Trinitrate Tablets 600mcg; half to one prn(when necessary) Used in the prevention and treatment of stable and angina and heart failure associated with acute myocardial infarction. Provides exogenous source of nitric oxide. Predominantly venodilators and reduces venous return and preload to the heart, reducing myocardial oxygen requirement. Glyceryl Trinitrate spray 400mcg (1 spray when required); use prn Also known as nitroglycerine and GTN. It is used in the treatment of angina by providing an exgenous source of nitric oxide which mediates vasodilator effects. His medical test results are: -Blood Pressure 140/90 -Liver Function Test Total protein=63g/L(normal 60-80g/L);Albumin 27g/L(normal 35-52g/L);ALT=19U/L(normal 38-126U/L);GGT=154U/L(normal 12-43U/L);ALP=177(normal 38-126U/L) Question 1: From the liver function test results, what information can we obtain regarding the patient s medical condition? Question 2: What further diagnostic tests are needed to know more about the patient s medical condition(including diabetes due to heavy weight)? Question 3: What are the appropriate therapies(what medicines, and dosage for each?) for effective treatment, avoidance of side effects, increased compliance, and cost-effectiveness? Question 4: Without other symptoms, the patient shows dry cough. What is the cause of this cough?

Too big a question. Please split up.

sugar and blood pressure.. pt is taking following meds : Aricept 10 mg daily, Zestril 10 mg daily, Glyburide 20 mg daily, MS Contin 15 mg tid pain. Pt has hypertension and diabetes mellitus.

We control diabetes with a combination of carb counting, portion control and diet, exercise and medication. There will be normal fluctuations in levels every single day.The goal is to keep in within a normal range. As I am not a doctor, I can not make medical decisions for others.

Thats too much of an increase not to see a doctor. Your not taking steroids are you? Having trouble breathing or tightness in chest muscles. Dude, go see your doctor; he has the answer.

If you having heart troubles, I would take m time to go to a doc my friend. I am a heart patient and I live with my disease for the rest of my life. And it isn t funny not going to a doc. Please find the time to go . I do not want anything happen to you. Happy New Year.

I had no clue my bloodpressure was high until I ended up in the hospital needing emergency surgery. I had an aortic aneurism and nearly died. You need to see your doctor. That s the only way to be completely sure about what your problem might be. Trust me on this one.

Alternatives to blood pressure meds? -

hi - I was on a minimal amount of blood pressure meds prior to my wife s death in June 2006 - then it just started going up and up - and they have been raising my blood pressure meds. I started getting some normalcy on the new higher level of meds and then my dog died, and it s been high since. hypertension runs in my family - everyone in my family is hypertensive. I follow a low fat VEGAN diet, and get a minimum of 30 minutes of cardio exercise a day - but usually get over 60 minutes a day - so I work out almost daily. I live in Wisconsin and I m thinking about moving to Texas where my family lives. I thought I had friends here, but my wife died and after the service nobody called me or anything. I have been reaching out ever since trying to get to know new people, but it just isn t going that fast for me - apparently nobody knows how to handle death - nobody knows what to say - everybody acts all freaked out and everything. it s not my fault. I haven t cried yet (continued)

You really really need to go to a grief counseling support group. there are usually free or lo cost groups in every county. If you are a Senior, they may go better, as the young widows are not there so much for counseling as to hit on a lonely man. Maybe that would be your best bet. You MUST LETthe tragedies go. It is not up to OTHER PEOPLE to make you happy, This is going to be up to YOU. Plan out your new life and get on with it. Crawl out of that hole. Just get outside and do something.

One thing that my grandfather took for almost 50 years to help lower his blood pressure was bugle, also known as carpenters weed, sickle wort or middle comfrey. He would make tea out of the leaves and some times also from the roots. There are a few different varieties but it doesn t really matter which one you use. Bugle can also be used as a mild laxative analgesic helps allays coughs and irritations helps rheumatism and can also be used as a mild narcotic. I hope I was of some help.Take care.

My sympathy for your losses. Cider vinegar (not cider flavored) helps reduce blood pressure. Drink 1/2 - 1 ounce daily. You ll cry when you re ready. Maybe people aren t calling because they don t know what to say and are afraid of appearing shallow.

ok now stop there!! there is a lot of self pity going on here! no onewants to be with someone whos always down as you seem to be! i myself have been through a lot in the last three years, i lost my husband to brain cancer and 6 months later i got breast cancer! while my husband was ill we got married in the hospital chapel a very emotional time, BUT, i made sure i tried to lead as normal a life a possible! our 10 year old daughter was bridesmaid and during the last few weeks of his life both my daughter and i LIVED in the hospital as we didnt know how long he had left a he developed double phnemonia! i had to get my daughter off to school from the hospital or she had to stay with friends, this was a very disruptive time for my child but as i said we tried to live as normal a life as possible, from what i can read from the first few lines of yours is that you dont seem to want to give out to people but want people to come to you??! durung the time my husband was ill i still did my best to help my local church with a charity event that ive always helped on, and even kept up with my aromatherapy classess giving my husband palitive treatment, as my test case, with approval from him and the Drs! I suggest you get out more and give something back ! go and get a session of reiki teatments its a wonderful way to reduce blood pressure, sorry if im preaching here but i think you need to go and visit your friends and not expect them to run after you! show some independence!

AYahoo search for quot;high blood pressurequot; + quot;natural remediesquot; will help you. Besides garlic, fish oil and hawthorn there are quite a few others that you will come across in the above search.

First of all I am sorry that you are going through and I will keep you in my prayers. It is very hard when things seem to come down all at once. It sounds that you are grieving in your own way, but crying is only one way of release. I think people have distanced themselves to give you time to heal, and because they are lost for words. Your body s natural response has resulted in your increased health problems. None handles death! It is something you must look to God and ask Him to carry you through. Each time we go through a test in life we should come out stronger and more knowlegeable in the lessons we are taught through the experience. I have a whole list of things that I can give you that will help with yours symptoms, but the best one I have found works on depression, as well as blood pressure, and other health issues. Check it out for yourself: http//jwtpowerfuljuice.gomangosteen.net

I received 2 wildly disparate diagnosiss, how can people hear the same thing have such different answers? -

After going to two different Dr s., one said I had bi-polar disorder, AD HD, and brain damage (due to a few too many concussions). The other Dr. said quot;the diagnoses are Borderline Personality with Major Depressive Disorder, Mixed Personality Disorder with Antisocial Behavior, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Alcohol and Drug Dependency Recovering. The prognosis is poor. The GAF (Global Assessment of Functionality) is 20. Is this because of when they went to school they were taught more thoroughly (approx. 45-50 yrs. ago) compared to 10-15 years ago? Personally, I think the younger guys (roughly my age) are just using the flavor of the month (not to mention the easier amp; shorter) answer! Probably the drug reps incentives have something to do with the easy-answer guys decision? The real kick in the *** is that Social Security paid for the visit to the Dr. who gave me the more plausible answer, and he is not a Gateway participating provider. Is there any hope of landing a competent Dr. with Gateway? Am I doomed to keep dealing with crackpots (crackheads)? Or should I just take a month s worth of hypertension pills? I have a 30 yr. history of suicidal thoughts/behavior. Some previous attempts included barricading myself in a room and swallowing 300 aspirin, hanging myself, bridge jumping, defenestration, lying my head on railroad tracks, agitating dangerously unstable people (bikers and cops etc.), various quot;accidentalquot; overdoses, and my favorite... wrapping aluminum foil 20-30 times around my head and climbing an oak tree during an electrical storm. So I ve probably heard all the trite advice like quot;It s a permanent solution to a temporary problemquot;. Temporary my ***! The problems grew exponentially upon entering (chronicalogically) adulthood. Severe problems getting and keeping even crappy low-paying jobs. Repeated evictions due to mismanaging insufficient funds. Inability to maintain friendships. Friend counter currently sitting at zero for last 4-5 years. I.Q. dropped from 129 to 104 over last 30 yrs. Attention span GONE! This is the longest thing I ve written in at least 10 yrs. I try to find the (inapropriate?) humor in everything, but laughter being the ONLY medicine is not enough. (it s sort of like drowning, only instead of air I m gasping for laughs.) I ve been on many psychiatric meds over the years, (I had such high hopes when Prozac was introduced!) none worked. WHAT THE HELL SHOULD I DO?

Quite often it takes more than one visit to make a differential diagnosis. These doctors probably only made a preliminary diagnosis. I hope you will be able to choose one and trust that as the doctor gets to know you, a more accurate diagnosis will be made. Best Wishes to you.

Now, is the competent doctor the one who gave you the long or short answer? I d say that if Dr. Incompetent is the one you can get, while Dr. Competent isn t, you might need a third opinion. I hope this helps! ~C

From the information you have provided, it seems as though the second list of diagnoses is probably more accurate. However, every psychiatrist may have a slightly different feel on what a patient s diagnosis is, depending on how the pt. presents themselves at that time. Clients with BPD often have quot;accidentalquot; suicide attempts. They have no true intent of committing suicide. This is simply an attention-seeking behavior. Example: A client will overdose on a cocktail of pills and then call for help once they have done so. There are some incidents where the person will not get help in time and consequently die. Clients who suffer from BPD often struggle with substance abuse issues. Antisocial and borderline personality disorders are axis II diagnoses. The major depressive DO would be an axis I diagnosis. I am assuming you are referring to bipolar disorder and ADHD as the psychiatric flavors of the month - unfortunately they are sometimes used for insurance billing purposes. The GAF of 20 is exceptionally low, as an ideal GAF is approximately 80 or above.

Just curious if you have tried bi-polar meds? They are far different than say prozac. Bipolar meds are mood stabilizers such as lamotrigine or lithium, infact if a bipolar person takes something like prozac it can actually provoke suicidal tendancies. There are many meds to try, but it sounds very much like you need to talk to a therapist regularly to talk as well to keep you focused. Unfortunately I know nothing about Gateway or how it works, I live in Canada. You are going to have to be your own advocate it sounds like and contact perhaps mental health facilities and ask lots of questions on what your options are there. I really hope you find the answers you are looking for.

What could cause a very low pitch roaring in one ear? -

I m seeing three specialists for various health problems. They are baffled as to why I have a very low pitch roaring in my left ear. They ve ruled out ear infection. I have a mild problem with early hypertension for my age (genetic condition). I m recovering from a sinus and respiratory infection, but this started after I had used all the antibiotics. This is driving me nuts. I bought a sound machine and that helps a little. One interesting thing, I can take a half of a Vicodin pill and within minutes the roaring sound goes away. I m wondering if this is a clue as to what is causing the noise? Since my doctors are stumped, I am hoping there will be some medical or research experts here who can help?

My wife has had it for 25 years its never gone away she has never found anybody that could give her an answer. I could not even imagine having that tone in my head I guess you get used to it.

Health anatomy amp; physiology? -

A patient is in her 25th week of pregnancy and has developed hypertension and is showing signs of edema and protein , especially albumin, in the urine. Her doctor diagnoses her problem as eclampsia, and tells her it is due to the blood vessels failing to dilate to the proper extent. How would this problem (constricted vessels) produce the symptoms being observed?

uhm, read your text book?

Explain the possible problems associated with the high diastolic pressure? -

Ms. S. J., aged 48 years, has essential hypertension, diagnosed 4 years ago. She has not been taking her medication during the past 6 months because she has been feeling fine. Now she has a new job and has been too busy to enjoy her usual swimming and golf. She has decided to have a checkup because she is feeling tired and dyspneic and has had several bouts of dizziness, blurred vision and epistaxis (nosebleeds) lately. On examination, her blood pressure is found to be 190/120, some rales are present in the lungs, and the retinas of her eyes show some sclerosis and several arteriolar ruptures. The physician orders rest and medication to lower the blood pressure, as well as an appointment with a nutritionist and urinary tests to check kidney function.

Can stress cause you to act less like you, sort of bipolar, etc.? -

I have had tons of stress pounding on me the last 1 1/2 years. Once I had like a nervous breakdown kind of thing. Since then I m not me. My moods rage up and down and as fast as lighting. I get depressed alot and have anxiety. All these started showing up suddenly. Is it just stress? All of listed above runs in family too :/. Everyone has noticed the change also. It s like I cant get the old me back. My blood pressure sways sort of. Normal sometimes, then high sometimes. I was at hypertension stage 3 once then the next day it was low, then normal, it just kind of messes around I can t really control my anger actually. Yes I m in my teens so I think maybe hormones could be involved. I go to counseling. Used to at least just never scheduled the next appointment. A comment my mother made, made me feel crazy.

honey these are symptoms/signs of bipolar. how do i know i have been bipolar for 9 years(since my mother died) and im just 16. so my best advice i can give you is talk to your parent(s),tell them you need help, tell them you want to talk to someone or go a psychiatrist(nothing wrong with that) just be open and honest with them and im sure they ll support/stand behind you 100%. Yes stress can be a BIG part of it to but just to be safe go to the doctor and see if are bipolar.

yes! these are bipolar symptoms. your mom is right, go to your psychrtiist--get counseling, and meds to help control the symptoms. it s hard for family to live with a bipolar person. i know; i m one.my family and myself dont know how take my angry outburst-or mood swings. i hate myself for this--but i have to keep taking my meds religiously amd see my psychologist--for the last ten yrs. we feel like no one understands us; and sometimes we dont know ourself. hang in there please.

Doctor for stress/depression? -

if you think you re depressed or stressed, what kind of doctor do you need? what type of healing or what kind of help do you need? cuz im tryin to help a friend, he is pretty old like 60s and he has hypertension and he is taking medicines for that, he goes to the doctor for check-up every week... we talked earlier today and he told me that he s stressed out and he couldnt stop thinkin about problems and thinkin about his situation, he cant relax at all and his mind seemed to be bothered.. he told me he s having some stress and keeps thinkin about his situation, him being alone and no family. no happiness.. i was thinking, what causes his stress, i wonder what is bothering his mind.. i think he s also depressed since he mentioned that he was stressed thinkin about his situation being alone not having someone in his life... i wanna help him but i dont know what exactly could help his situation. i think he needs a doctor to talk to, to express how he feels to let it out.. like counseling.

A selection of treatments follows, because circumstances, and individual preferences vary. See stress treatments, at ezy build, below in section 42. A certain level of stress is unavoidable, in modern society, so it is a good idea to develop effective coping methods. For others, or yourself: A massage (at least neck and shoulders) with jasmine, lavender, juniper, and/or bergamot, or German chamomile essential oils added to the massage oil, and to a warm bath, preferably beforehand, to help make any tension knots and muscles more pliant (they may only want, say, a juniper and/or bergamot and/or sandalwood mix: check first). I am aware of advice that strong heat, applied to essential oils can damage them, and so I would not use a diffuser. See if they will do long, stretching yoga exercises, or t ai chi with you (see section 2, at ezy build, below). Practise daily, one of the relaxation techniques on pages 2, 11, 2c, or 2i; whichever works best for you, but the mindfulness breathing for 15 - 20 mns is ideal, although the progressive muscle relaxation can be learned quickly, and takes only several minutes, if pressed for time. Employ the EFT version for use in public, for which you can reasonably claim that you have a headache, as you massage/tap your temples, but it may be advisable to restrict yourself to subvocalising (saying it to yourself, in your mind, not aloud). Section 53, and pages 2, 2.q and 2.o refer. quot;Even though I sometimes suffer from stress, I deeply and completely accept myselfquot;. (The following is a variant of EMDR: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy, which has been used successfully for those people suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, insomnia, and anxiety: it is easily learned, quick to use, yet can be very effective. It is easy to be dismissive of such a seemingly unusual technique, but give it a good tryout, for at least a few weeks, to see if it is effective in your case.). Prior to using either of the methods in the above paragraph, first sit comfortably, and take a deep breath. Then, without moving your head, move your eyes from the left, to the right, and back again, taking around a second to do so (say: quot;a thousand and onequot;: this takes approximately a second). Repeat this procedure (without the words, although you can count, subvocally, if you like) 20 times. Then close your eyes and relax. Become aware of any tension or discomfort you feel. Then open your eyes, and take another deep breath, and repeat step one, closing your eyes, and relaxing afterwards, in the same manner. Then, repeat the procedure one last time. Some people may find that this is all they need do. With experience, you may find that you can practise this in public, with your eyes closed, which greatly widens the window of opportunity for its use, and avoids attracting unwanted attention. I have found that the 2 - 3 minutes spent using the EMDR markedly reduces distractions to the relaxation process, and is repaid many times over. With experience, you may find that you can practise this in public, with your eyes closed, which greatly widens the window of opportunity for its use, and avoids attracting unwanted attention. You can also multitask, using the gazing technique, as you walk/jog or exercise, by focusing on a distant object, or just focus awareness on how each step feels, noting any thoughts which flash across your mind, without pursuing any particular train of thought, just gently redirect your focus to the task at hand. For some people, it helps to visualise of a quiet, relaxing scene, (Imagine, as vividly as you can, that you are on a tropical beach, reclining comfortably; you luxuriate, as the the sun warms you, and a gentle breeze caresses your skin lightly, inhaling the tangy, sea scented, salt laden spray from the sparkling, translucent, aqua waves, crashing on the white, coral beach sand, and feeling the hot sand slip through your fingers in one hand, sipping your favorite drink with the other; all the while, the seagulls call, swoop and cavort playfully overhead in a cloudless, azure sky: you feel just like one of them, free to soar and cartwheel, or just glide in the moist, heavy air, and that this moment will last forever ... ). Some people may find it helps when they listen to: Other suggestions: and the audio, as well as the printed version, at: and or the mountain river sounds. Take 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, daily, replacing 2 of them with cod liver oil supplements, or a teaspoonful of the oil (I spread mine on toast, and mask its strong taste with fishpaste, and pepper), in the winter months only. Those people who receive adequate exposure to sunlight, daily, won t need the vitamin D from cod liver oil, but many people, particularly those in latitudes far from the equator, find this difficult, to achieve. Eat healthily, in accordance with your quot;nutritional typequot; as determined at SEARCHBAR. Ginseng (Panax Ginseng (Chinese/Korean/Japanese), panax quinquefolius (American) Eleutherococcus senticosus (Siberian)). It is also known as man root, life root and heal all. Lady s Slipper (Cypripedium pubescens) Lady s slipper is one of the most widely applicable nerviness available. It can be used in all stress reactions, emotional tension and anxiety states. Try having a cup of quot;Tension Tamerquot;, herbal tea, by Celestial Seasonings, (from supermarket tea, or health food aisles) or make some at home, and cool, then bottle, and drink as needed (I find it so strong tasting, that I need to drink it quickly, followed by something like fruit juice, to take away the taste, but others may find it more tolerable). C(h)amomile tea is a more palatable option. As with all herbal/green teas, use lemon/lime, and/or a little sweetener (NOT ARTIFICIAL!!!) but no cream, or milk. Xylitol, or Stevia is preferable, (health food stores) or fruit sugar (fructose, such as quot;Fruisanaquot;, from supermarket sugar aisles) or even a little honey, because these will reduce quot;sugar spikesquot;, which later deplete you of energy. Minimise/eliminate consumption of highly processed foods, particularly grain products, such as white bread, donuts, cake, cookies/biscuits, or anything with sugar. Opt for more wholefoods, non-starchy vegetables, and fruit. Light to moderate daily exercise helps fight stress. and depression is addressed in section 2; view page R first.

Counseling would probably help, but if he is alone, lonely and worried, the best medicine would be getting out and being involved in something. Whether it is taking a kid fishing, or going to church related outings or whatever is appropriate to his interests. Get him involved and busy if you can and he is bound to feel more productive and less lonely.

Family Physician, if the doc states that he has quot;Depressionquot;, ask the doctor to refer him to a physchiatrist, they treat mental health issues.

PCOS essay? -

i know its alot to read but can someone tell me if its ok for an essay. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Polycystic Ovaries Syndrome (PCOS) is an ovulation disorder and infertility that occurs in many women. Polycystic ovaries syndrome is a problem that occurs in with the ovaries. In PCOS, the ovaries are bigger than average, and the outer surface of the ovary has an abnormally large number of small follicles (the sac of fluid that grows around the egg under the influence of stimulating hormones from the brain). PCOS involves more than just the ovaries filled with small cysts which is associated with high male hormones. In PCOS, these follicles remain immature, never growing to full development or ovulating to make an egg capable of being fertilized. For the woman this means that she rarely ovulates (releases an egg) and so is less fertile. She also does not have regular periods and may go for many weeks without a period. Other features of the condition are excess weight and excess body hair. The condition is common infertile women and particularly common with women with ovulation problems (an incidence of about 75 percent). In the general population, around 25 percent of women will have polycystic ovaries seen on ultrasound examination but most have no other symptoms or signs of PCOS and are perfectly healthy. It is not known if women are born with this condition, PCOS seems to run in families. Which means that something that causes the condition is inheritable. When PCOS is passed down the man’s side of the family, the men are not infertile, but they do have a tendency to become bald early in life, before the age of 30. While the research is in process they are trying to find out if there’s a clearly identifiable gene for PCOS. It seems like in the future one or two genes will be identified that play a fundamental role in determining a woman’s likelihood of developing this condition. Even if PCOS has a genetic basis, it is likely that not all women with the gene or genes will develop the condition. It is more likely to develop if there is a family history of diabetes (especially Type 2, the less severe type usually controlled by tablets), or if there is early baldness in the men in the family. There are different type of symptoms to let you know if you have PCOS. The ways in which PCOS shows itself are: absent or infrequent periods a common symptom of PCOS. Periods can be as frequent as every five to six weeks, but could only occur once or twice a year or sometimes not even that. more facial and body hair than usually found under the chin, on the upper lip, forearms, lower legs and on the abdomen (usually a vertical line of hair up to the umbilicus). acne usually found only on the face.. overweigh also a common symptom in women with PCOS because their body cells are resistant to the sugar-control hormone insulin. This insulin resistance prevents cells using sugar in the blood normally and the sugar is kept there turns into fat instead. miscarriage and hard to get pregnant without the help of a doctor. Spend more time at doctor visits than women without PCOS would. If not then more likely a miscarriage might happen. most women with PCOS will have the ultrasound findings, where the menstrual cycle are not normal are found in around 66% of woman and obesity is found in 40%. The increase in hair and acne are found in up to 70% where the unbalanced hormones are found in up to 50% of women. Its likely that there are different stages of the disease throughout life. Younger women are more likely to have irregular periods, on the other had older women have other problems such as diabetes and hypertension (high blood pressure), though their period patterns tend to become more regular. Women with PCOS also have more risk of strokes and heart attacks, but their death rate from these conditions is not increased. The diagnosis is based on the patient’s symptoms and physical appearance. If the diagnosis seems likely because the patient might already have noticed some of the symptoms and the doctor will be doing different kinds of blood test such as female sex hormones, male se hormones, glucose, thyroid function tests and other hormone test along with an ultrasound examination to make sure everything is doing well in the abdomen. Once the diagnosis is made, nothing more needs to be done for some women, if their fertility is not an issue, if their weight is within normal limits, and if they do not have excess body hair. If any of the symptoms are an issue, then further advice and treatment, and possibly specialist referral might be needed. There are several things that an a person can do if they have been developing some the symptoms that PCOS can cause. Much of this involves lifestyle changes to make sure that your weight is kept within normal limits (BMI between 19 and 25). Also because there is a risk of developing diabetes later in life and a little more higher risk of heart disease, low-fat and low-sugar options should be considered when making choices about what to eat or to drink. Weight loss, or maintaining weight below a certain level, will have the short-term benefit of increasing the successful treatment and the long-term benefits of reducing the risk of diabetes and heart disease. Having PCOS in the life a women is very hard. When I was diagnose with PCOS I wasn’t real familiar with the syndrome but as I grew older into the teenage years I started noticing more of the syndromes and I wasn’t myself. I wanted to do so many stuff with friends of mine but didn’t feel confident of myself. I didn’t want people to look at me. As I grew older I learned to accept how my life was and I had to deal with it and get into treatment. It’s pretty hard trying to lose weight when having PCOS because I have to work out three times as more than a women without PCOS. You are gaining weight but don’t know why. You don’t eat much but still gaining and in points in your life, you lose weight and gain it back fast. Its awesome somewhat that I can control my symptoms when I am in treatment and its important not to give up, but its pretty hard going to doctor visits when I don’t have Medical Insurance Its gets real expensive all the medications you need to take.

I think that s really good for an essay. If you wrote it, you did a good job. :)

Help me please? -

Hi! I would go and describe these symptoms to a Dr. they sound like you may need a cat scan or somthing. it could be somthing wrong. also, go to WebMD.com and see if there is anything there that describes what you are feeling. that may help you understand. Make sure you are taking a vitamin, and getting enough sleep. Sleep does wonders for the body.

How old are you? Although it s hard to say since you don t give a lot of information, it sounds like you might need to be checked for mono. Read this and see if it sounds like you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mononucleos...

Could it be your diet? Try cutting down your carbs and eating as much raw fruit and vegetables as possible. As far as memory goes, oily fish such as mackrel or sardines are good brain food.

stop watching tv and exercise, walk, whatever, it will be VERY difficult at first but after a while you will see your energy levels rise a lot!

Unplug your TV. This device wipes people out and keeps them from doing anything outside. Removing this device from your pattern will help you but not cure you.

either you have a disease called quot; Alzheimer squot; or stop smoking weed.

er? Doctors are more knowledgeable about treating people. If they can t figure it out then maybe you have hysteria.

you have gyno hepra rectum ballsic flu

Do you have breast? I think u have klinefelter syndrome

MMMMM did u forget what you wrote? if i write sumthing ure gona forget so why bother good luck!

WHAT IS MY PROBLEM PLEASE ?? these are my sypmptoms...? -

I have cervical spondylosis, hypertension and a hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. I occasionally take blood pressure lowering tablets and pain killers and nerorubine forte for the spondylosis. Of late I have been having a completly new problem which is driving me NUTS !! Immediately after eating I develop the following conditions ; I start feeling dizzy ; I feel like fainting ; I get blurr/hazy vision; I get a dry mouth ; I get a severe headache ; my palpitations increases ; my chest ache and I become increasingly restless.

You need to have your blood sugar checked.

I think you ought to go and consult your doctor.

its definity dibetes. my friend had the same symthoms and when he wen to check his blood test, it was high! i really do feel sorry for you and i think you should try getting a blood test by your doctor. if you have got dibetes then you will get a wristband showing that you do indeed have dibetes. don t take it off. good luck m8!

Donate your body, it should keep the professors baffled for a long time.

Hi if you have hypertension then you need to ALWAYS take your B.P. tablets not just when you think you will. The new symptoms you are getting after eating could be anything from indigestion to diabetes go to your G.P and get it checked out if it is bothering you .

I wish Iwas a doctor and could help you out. My best advice is to check out some medical resouces on the web, such as www.webmd.com Or just search your symptoms. Unfortunately, as I ve learned through past experiences, it s best not to self-diagnose and to see a professional, just in case. There are so many ailments that have almost identical symptoms that only lab tests can identify the true problem. Good luck and take care of yourself.

Go and get checked out by a doctor...don t rely on wannabes on the internet, your health is too important.

Paying attention to the early signs and symptoms of hyperglycemia can help you treat the condition promptly. Watch for: Frequent urination Increased thirst Dry mouth Blurred vision Fatigue Nausea Please check with your doctor for hypocount.

you sound like a right barrel of laughs

diabetes , it could be diabetes . feeling dizzy after eating and dry mouth . i dont know though u should see a doc

It s probably the cervical spondylitis. From my own experience, I suffer the same from time to time and the dizziness often puts me to bed for days on end. Migraine is something I get because of it too, so it is all linked. Have you tried imigran tablets, or codeine as a painkiller. Go to bed though and sleep off the effects of the medication as you wont feel any better by taking them initially. I just give in gracefully and take medication and go for a sleep or at least a lie down for couple of hours.

Ignore the fist couple of stupid answers!! (eejits!) Sounds possibly like diabetes but please go and get a blood test Lloyd s pharmacy do a free diabetes test (well I think it s free) or go to your doctor
