Some cysts can cause pain when they are quite small, it depends where they are placed. If yours is causing you pain (I think it probably is the cyst that is causing the pain) then get it aspirated.
Your pain is more then likely related to your cyst. I had a pt with the exact same case like yours and she was 12 and her presentation was a dull ache, but her blood pressure was slightly elevated then the normal range. The aspiration procedure is fairly simple. Its done in the radiology department either with an ultrasound tech or CT (Cat Scan) tech. Either tech will produce an image on a monitor to help guide the needle to the cyst so the doctor can properly aspirate it. The needle insertion site will be numbed so the only discomfort you will feel is the slight burning sensation with the numbing medication is injected into your skin. If left untreated, you run the risk of the cyst growing and since its your kidneys that regulate your blood pressure, you will create a hypertensive environment which can lead to other health problems down the line. The only risk that I m aware of with this procedure is infection around the site of the needle. The risks outweigh the consequences and as far as the little girl I took care of....I haven t heard of her having any return visits for the same thing. Hope this helps. Feel free to email me if you have any other questions.
