Hydrocodone, CholesTrak, stethescope, etc? What are they for? -

I was recently snooping in my house, and in my father s stuff, found a bottle of hydrocodone/APAP 7.5/750 TBMCK, a box of CholesTrak, a stethescope, and one of those arm-band things which measures blood pressure. The bottle said take for pain. I am guessing my father has high cholestoral and possibly hypertension (high blood pressure) but what conclusions would you draw from finding these things? Also, please don t give me a lecture about morals, as I obviously have none, thanks.

It sounds like he is monitoring himself and like he may be in some pain. Nothing to worry about, I don t think...

He has been perscribed pain meds (hydrocodone) for something, they could be for an old procedure, injury who knows. This could be for longterm daily or they may be left over from something that happend a while back. Having them does not equal taking with hydrocodone. He has high blood pressure and is on medications and is apparently tracking it. Sounds like your dad is a fairly responsible patient.

Well, the hydrocodone is a prescription pain medicine. The cholestrak as you guessed is for high cholesterol. The armband and the stethescope go together, to take blood pressure. I m guessing that your Dad is just watching his health or he s into some serious medical kink. The hydrocodone he was probably just hiding from his nosey child. Tisk Tisk...

HYDROCODONE IS USED FOR PAIN. CHLOLESTRAK IS USED TO TREAT HIGH CHOLESTEROL. MY CONCLUSION: STOP MEDDLING IN YOUR DADS BUSINESS UNLES HE IS UNABLE TO CARE FOR HIMSELF. HOW WOULD YOU LIKWEIT IF HE WENT THROUGH YOUR PERSONEL STUFF?

What is the problem of treating asymptomatic condition? -

Okay, I am supposed to do GP attachment report and that is the question I got. Basically I need to know if there is any particular problem with treating asymptomatic conditions (like hypertension, hyperlipidaemia and impaired glucose tolerance.) The only problem is that it is asymptomatic! I can t elaborate much on it. Please help!

The largest single problem is compliance. The patient is less likely to submit/agree to treatment if the underlying condition is not affecting their day to day life. Putting a cast on a broken leg is easy...you tell the patient the leg is broken, put them in a cast, tell themin 6 weeks it will be healed, they are in less pain. With something asymptomatic (hyperlipidemia, hypertension etc) the patient as to be convinced that lifestyle alterations/medication is necessary. Particularly with hypertension, this can be challenging, because the side effects can be quite unpleasant from the meds used to treat the disorder, and the lifestyle changes are even less likely (unhealthy lifestyle is just more pleasant). Hope that helps.

Good reason why hypertension is called quot;the silent killerquot;. Not so quot;asymptomaticquot; when you have a stroke now, is it?! If you don t feel any symptoms it is probably that you have slowly compensated so you don t know the difference. Just trust the test results and TAKE THE MEDS before the condition worsens. You could get a stroke and die, or lose a limb (hypoglycemia gt; hyperglycemia gt; diabetes gt; peripheral vascular disease gt; gangrene gt; amputation) from the complications. The conditons you listed are all very dangerous!!

how do you treat if there are no symptoms. so how would you know what to treat with?

Caffeine consumption, and hypertension? -

Is the caffeine in two cups of morning coffee bad for someone with high blood pressure?

2 cups isn t bad. I know for me anything over 2 cups increases my blood pressure. I found this.... Caffeine is a mild stimulant found in coffee, tea, chocolate and many soft drinks. Too much caffeine can cause nervousness and jitters. It may also increase your blood pressure. The amount of caffeine in two to three cups of coffee can raise systolic pressure 3 to 14 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) and diastolic pressure 4 to 13 mm Hg in people without high blood pressure. Among people who don t consume caffeine on a regular basis, caffeine can cause a temporary but sharp rise in blood pressure. Exactly what causes this spike in blood pressure is uncertain. Some researchers suggest that caffeine narrows blood vessels by blocking the effects of adenosine, a hormone that helps keep them widened. Caffeine may also stimulate the adrenal gland to release more cortisol and adrenaline, which cause your blood pressure to increase.

I highly doubt it would effect you as bad as you think.I drive a truck so coffee is water to me.The one thing I was told at an interview was to be careful about taking Orange juice before going for a medical card because it will actually raise your blood pressure.(something about acidity) Coffee has some acidity to it,but not as much as fruit drinks.

No, caffeine is a natural diuretic. Diuretics are one of the medications that are used in treating hypertension. They reduce the blood volume thus decreasing blood pressure.

sorry, I wouldn t know that one but then again ,I drink my coffee from an IV bottle, you get the buzz quicker that way

Home (Natural) Remedy for lower blood pressure...? -

Hello All! I am 32 years and I have hypertension. last year I weaned myself off of the prescription Lisonopril. I was recommended to take 20 mg of this medication however I had a severe chronic cough allergic reaction. I have been taking the following remedies to help: 1. 1000 mg of Garlic Pills; 2. Coenzyme Q 10 50 mg X 3 times per day; 3. Low Dosage Aspirin 81 mg X 3 times per day; 4. Udo s Choice (Oil) blend 2 pills X 3 times per day: Still my pressure is high as of now 138 over 83. I would like to get it a lot lower. Anyone have a recommendation as I am trying to do htis naturally?

I ll be honest with you. I m not a big fan of homeopathic BS. I am 27 and had high blood pressure when I was 24. After I found that out, I took to running and watching what I ate. I think particularly it was the running for me. It brought my BP down from 140/93 to 118/81. If you are overweight or out of shape, exercise can make all the difference. If you have hypertension for another medical condition though, you need to get appropriately medicated with prescription drugs. The longer you wait, the more disservice you are doing to your body.

Lower your sodium intake. http://www.lowersodium.com

I took all the stuff you re doing and more plus lots of exercise. It made no difference in my blood pressure. At least you re getting some results. Slow breathing will definitely push it down the rest of the way. In fact, it s all I need and I no longer bother with any of that other stuff. Check the website below in the resource box for complete details, a free online demo and instructions.

Before resorting to medications, proven methods to improve blood pressure are: 1) Low/No added salt diet. 2) Minimising alcohol intake. 3) Regular exercise If this fails, low dose angiotensin II inhibitors eg irbesartan have a similiar BP lowering effect as Lisinopril but no cough. The Garlic pills, Q10 and aspirin will not work on blood pressure significantly. I don t know much about the oil but it is unlikely to work either.

Lisinopril is an ace inhibitor, and there are others on the market that do not produce the cough. It is not a good idea to take yourself off a medication without a doctor s consent, as it could result in damage to your cardiovascular health. You should see your doctor about alternative medications. Your blood pressure is still significantly higher than it should be, and it s not something to play around with.

Diet and Exercise. At least 30 mins of exercise a day. Eat Oatmeal or cheerios each day. Take time out and rest and relax. This combination attack should bring your systolic down 10 points in three months.

Any alternative medicines (e.g herbs, ayurvedic) for hypertensions? -

A well balanced diet of lean meats, fruits, veggies, whole wheat bread, and low fat dairy along with 30 minutes of exercise a day will help you with your hypertention. Also quit drinking and quit smoking! Good Luck.

Hypertenol contains Bio-Enhanced Garden Thyme and Myrtle, two potent ingredients that help to support normal activities in the body that regulate blood pressure, such as the dilation of blood vessels to increase blood flow in the coronary arteries, the breakdown of plaque deposits in blood vessel walls, as well as natural enzymatic action which helps maintain kidney function, which is crucial to proper fluid circulation throughout the body. Hypertenol has been successfully used to: - Help obtain and maintain a desirable blood pressure in patients who have not responded adequately to prescribed hypertension medication. - Help obtain and maintain further desirable blood pressure (lt;130/85 mmHg) in patients who have been under control of prescribed hypertension medication. - Help obtain and maintain a normal blood pressure in patients who suffer the side effects from conventional hypertension medication and wish to discontinue it. - Help improve and maintain a normal heart beat in people who suffer from arrythmia either with or without hypertension. - Improve breathing in people who complain of breathing difficulties caused from obesity or high blood pressure. http://www.herballoveshop.com/product.as...

tincture of leonuri, some people also use calming herbs like chamomile or passionflower

I take a quot;once a dayquot; drink that contains Taurine, which is an essential amino acid. It helps with cardiovascular disease, including high blood pressure. There are also other herbs included in this single serving such as maca root (boosts libido, sexual function, and overall energy) and green tea among others. If you e-mail me, I can get you information on how to get this product. It s very inexpensive as well.

garlic it can low your blood pressure. Many people don t eat garlic because of there smell and there taste but it is good to your health specially to the people with high blood pressure or with hypertension.

I am a believer in cannabis myself, legal here in Oregon for us with pain. Does not cause all those nasty side effects. You have to get the right strain for what you have...if that is your doctor has diagnosed you with this and you live in one of the states that it is legal....

Just looking for a little info on my health. 15, female, high blood pressure and diet questions? -

Im 15 and female. Im 5 foot 2 or 3 inches. I weigh 110 pounds. I was told at school the other day by my nurse, that I had high blood pressure after she took my blood pressure. I read up a little on this and found: quot;Primary hypertension (also known as essential hypertension) in children is the label given to high blood pressure when there is no underlying illness or disease that can be identified as the cause. There are several potential causes for primary hypertension in both children and adults. If a child consumes a diet that is high in salt or eats too many foods high in fat, hypertension can develop. Children with abnormally high levels of triglycerides or cholesterol are at risk for hypertension in childhood or adolescence. The same is true for children and adolescents who are overweight and live too sedentary of a lifestyle. If a child has a parent with a history of high blood pressure, he or she might inherit the condition.quot; This is the only answer I can find. Im not taking any birth control or medicine, so that cant be the reason my blood pressure has been high. Although Im not overweight, infact my doctor has told me not to lose anymore weight, i do eat a lot of foods that are high in fat. I eat 3-4 cookies a day or some other high in fat dessert. (arn t all good deserts high in fat?) And I havnt had a very good diet for a year or so now. I eat one meal a day usually between 4 and 6pm. Usually its pizza, macamp;cheese, veggie burger, veggie dog, or some other quot;fake meatquot; meal since I am a vegatarian. Im suppose to be taking multi-vitamins, but I never remember. and go 2-3 weeks between taking one. I ve also experienced shortness of breath lately. I can hardly walk a couple yards without getting really out of breath and feeling dizzy and weak. I have to go up 3 flights of stairs at school during the day. I used to have no problem with this, but now I can hardly do it. Im in shape, but just have had problems with physical exercise lately because as said, i keep experiencing shortness of breath. --- So... what should I do? And is there something wrong with me?

First of all, every food that you mentioned that you eat for dinner is loaded with sodium and too much can cause hypertension, even in a person who is not over weight. Secondly, you need to be eating at least 3 meals a day, but preferably, you should be eating 3 small meals a day and 3 snacks in between meals. This will keep your body from thinking that it needs to go into starvation mode and will also keep your blood sugar levels consistent throughout the day. If your school nurse said that your blood pressure was high, you should go see your family doctor and have them take your blood pressure. This one instance of hypertension could have been a fluke or it could have been taken incorrectly since this does happen from time to time. If your BP is still high when you see your family doctor you should ask for a referral to a pediatric cardiologist and have them do some tests to see if there is something else in your body that could be causing the problems with the high blood pressure. There are medications that can be taken to keep your blood pressure within normal limits which means that it should be no higher than 120/80 and no lower than 100/70. This is the range that is considered optimal and healthy for all adults and teenagers. Regarding the exercise, it could be that you are experiencing shortness of breath because your heart rate is too fast. When your heart rate gets to a certain speed it can cause you to feel winded and this is your body s way of letting you know that you are pushing your heart too hard. When walking up a couple flights of stairs your HR should not be above 110 beats per minute. This is also something that you should discuss with your family doctor and the cardiologist. Again, there are medications that can be used to bring the heart rate down to normal levels which is no higher than about 85 beats per minute when seated and no lower than 60 beats per minute. There are some tests that can be run to determine if you are having a more complex problem or if you are just experiencing hypertension and a fast heart beat (fast heart rate is called Tachycardia by doctors). To be on the safe side, speak with your parents and make an appointment with your doctor to get checked out. It can t hurt anything, but you could cause yourself to become very ill if you do not get it looked at by the doctor. Good luck and I hope that you feel better soon.

..change your lifestyle.. cut down on the fatty stuffs and take more vegetables and also the salts and sugars.. they are really the mean ones..

Best drug of choice for essential hypertensive patient diagnosed 2 months ago ,who wants to get pregnant .? -

a positive family history of hypertension

There is no best drug, it s a matter of trial and error. You might be lucky with the first drug your doctor prescribes, but it could take a few different drugs before you find the perfect one for you. You must ask your doctor this question, you can t self treat at such an important time for you. Please make an appointment and let your doctor help you.

Hypertension is so important to properly treat. For that kind of advice PLEASE talk with your Doctor. If you still have concerns you can talk with your pharmacist too. I m sure you ll do fine.

Shooting pain in left arm? -

At about 11pm last night, my boyfriend started complaining of a pain in his right shoulder. He told me this morning that it now is a shooting pain and goes from just about his wrist to his jaw. He has had heart problems in the past, and has a family history of hypertension and diabetes. He doesn t have insurance, so he can t quot;just go to the doctor.quot; He took some pain medication to see if that helps a few minutes ago. If it does help does that mean its not his heart? Should we just go to the ER?

Yes, Get help-NOW! Give him an aspirin too.

Go to the ER.

i do not have insurance either i still go to the er you are more important then any bill you should go to have your boyfriend checked out just for your peace of mind good luck

i would go to er, better to be safe. good luck.

Shooting pains from the jaw to the wrist would signal cardiac problems, especially if the underside of his arm experiences the pain as well. Its possible it is only a pinched nerve, or he slept on his sore shoulder funny, but with a history of heart problems and hypertension he should certainly have it looked at.

Heart problems are supposed to be indicated by pains in the left shoulder and left arm, so I m not sure what the right arm may be an indication of. It could be a pinched nerve in his right shoulder from sleeping on his neck wrong. Is there any shortness of breath, nausea, dizziness? Those are other heart attack symptoms.

YES! Go to the hospital emergency room. That is definitely a sign of a heart problem. Give him some aspirin if you have it. That will thin his blood slightly if he is having a heart attack. We also dont have insurance but when it comes to something that is potentially life threatening I know it is worth it to go rather than lose someone and regret having not gone. You can make $10 payments on the final bill from the ER. I have even had them just absorb the cost of the bill after explaining my financial situation. Better to be safe, than sorry!!!

It sounds suspisciously like a pinched nerve, as radiating pain from a heart attack quot;usuallyquot; doesn t reach the wrist nor is it a quot;shooting painquot;, but if he has a history of heart problems, and is experiencing chest pain, nausea, or any other symptoms of a heart attack, then you really shouldn t take a chance. Take him to the ER just to be safe.

dear go to ER

Too many drugs man. he s having a heart attack. Dam! he needs insurance? but he could be having a heart attack, they wont let him die will they?

ER NOW!!!!!

Why don t you visit this website - - you may find good information which is very authentic too.

Symptoms of a heart attack include pain in the jaw, all the way down the arm. Go to the ER and worry about payment later. Have him pop an aspirin before you go.

yes, go to the doctor, especially if it gets worse. you can never be too safe....after all, who cares if he doesnt have insurance...he s a human being and he has rights! what if its life threatening? better safe than sorry!

For the past two weeks my father has had difficulty recalling names and phone numbers.? -

He s had a lot of stress lately from work, which made him not want to take his blood pressure meds for a week. He also suffers from hypertension, heart disease and COPD. Where could this memory loss have come from. I ve heard rumors that for some statin drugs have an affect on their memory. Could it be a blood clot in my father s case or something else. My father did visit the doc recently he just got rid of one of his meds which wasnt the statin drug. He s suppose to see him again this wednesday to see how he s doing. To me he s been the same. Anyone have any suggestions? Please anything is something. Thanks

honey, with all your fathers conditions on top of the stress he could be having circulation constriction (blood flow) to the brain which will cause less oxygen to go to the brain. or perhaps blood pressure will be so high it could cause memory loss ( i myself have experienced this). your father dear should get to his Dr. amp; now to get checked out he is headed, if not already, about to have a massive stroke or major heart attack or both. NOW!!

It was brain cancer. Who would of known. Don t worry were doing our best to fight it. thanks Report Abuse

It sounds like you need to go to the doctor with your dad to make sure the doc is getting the right information. And that your dad is remembering the correct information concerning his treatment

Can coming of Birth Control have side effects? -

Ok heres the problems I have hypertension and I came off birth control to get pregnant. I have had my blood pressure controlled for a while but now it keeps going form to high to too low. I have been having migranes and trouble sleeping. Any one ever had this problem and howlong does it last?

no, there are no side effects. that s why you get your period when you take the placebo pills, it comes right out of your system.

Are most breakfast cereals dangerous junk food or healthy nutrition? -

A Consumers International study has recently found that breakfast cereals sold in Malaysia, China, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Thailand, and the Philippines contain up to 25g of sugar per 100g of cereal. This study has also found that many cereals are quot;laden with fat and saltquot;. Which can lead to obesity and hypertension. study makes me wonder if the consumption of such cereals is a big cause of pediatric obesity in USA and Europe too?

In some cases, the cereal BOX is more nutritious with milk poured onto it than the contents of said box

I read an article a while back about how people who eat breakfast cereals on a regular basis live longer. I don t have the article on hand, and I don t know how scientific it was, but they claimed that fortified cereals were the key, that the benefit from the extra vitamins and minerals outweighed the negative effects of the extra salt, fat and sugar. Obviously these people would get the same benefit from skipping the cereal and taking a good multivitamin, but many don t do that. Cereals could be a contributing factor to pediatric obesity in the US and Europe, but there are other things that contribute much more. Such as higher consumption of fast food and junk food in general. And more time spent sitting in front of the TV, computer or playing video games, meaning less physical activity.

There are a lot of quot;junk foodquot; cereals out there that target kids by putting cute cartoons on the box. If you look at the cereal aisle in your grocery store you will notice that the cereal with lots of sugar in them are on the middle and bottom shelves where kids see them. The companies of these cereals actually pay the stores the most money to have there products placed on these shelves since they are seen the most. The very top shelf in the cereal aisle has most of the healthy cereals.

If you want to know what the best cereal is you have to look at the contents of the box. Yesterday i was shocked at how much bad things were in cereal. The sugar alone is worst than a candy bar. But i was surprised that Total has the best source of Every Vitamin you can think of. The sugar is very low. But nothing in this world is all bad. if you do anything in moderations you can enjoy pretty much anything.

cereals are junk. the first cereals were created by doctors as a way to get ppl to get fiber. then was seen if adding massive amounts of sugar and cartoons to the box it could be sold to children. most food they feed us in america is crap anyway. eat fruit for breakfast. it sets you tone for the whole day.

According to new research by the uk food commission, a bowl of some cereals is similar in nutritional value to five chocolate chip cookies. So they really aren t a healthy way to start the day.

Cheerios aren t too bad, but I eat an organic cereal called Strawberry Promise from Kashi. Tastes great and it is healthy. I want someone to explain why any food should need either artificial coloring or flavoring. Shouldn t food look and taste like food?

yes more then likely u are right.. they are mostly junk filled with too much sugar, too many preservatives, too many carbs, and too much sodium.. milk is also not good for u either.. which u add to cereal... no good! junk food

Yeah thats why i dont like cereals, you can get your fiber from other sources too. They are high in calories and has too much sugar.

A lot of national brands are enriched with vitamins but loaded with sugar.

well ceral has alot of vitamins and minerals but to sell it they put way way way to much sugar in it which can be unhealthy

I don t eat breakfast food. I eat whatever appeals to me even leftovers

Anxiety or Something Else?? Serious Answers Only Please!? -

Here s my symptoms. I am going to the doctor on Wednesday. The nurse tends to lean towards Generalized Anxiety Disorder or GAD. I m wondering if it s neurological. For the past few months (probably since summer) or so I ve been really clumsy, occassional lightheadedness (due to lack of sleep), weak (endurance just isn t there), and blurred vision (my lazy eye keeps going out and I have little to no night vision -- I did just get new glasses yesterday of which I am trying to adjust to), and creepy crawling feeling all over my body (like there s insects on me, but nothing is there) Also, just this past week I ve been having right shoulder pain...like I ve just bren sucker punched...it comes and goes...and I ve been having a hard time holding my bladder. Any ideas on what this could be? I am currently taking medication for hypertension and a progesterone only birth control pill.

I really know how you feel I have the exact same thing!!! I have been to the doctors about 5 times in the last 2 years for the exact same thing. They tell me its anxiety, I just feel like its something more. I even had an EKG and nothing. I even have had blackouts! when all those symptoms you describe get bad. Its scary. I got no medicine nothing! Hope you have better luck! If possible let me know what they tell you. lostnema1@yahoo.com

smoke weed, its natural with no negative long term side effects, maybe an occasional lapse in memory or craving for food aka munchies

FIRST I MUST SAY THAT THE LIGHTHEADEDNESS COULD BE DUE TO YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE. THE OTHER SYMPTONS THAT YOU ARE HAVING SEEM SO FAMILIAR TO THE ONES THAT MY BESTFRIEND WAS HAVING A LITTLE OVER TEN YEARS AGO. SHE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS. BUT I WANT YOU TO REMEMBER THAT STRESS CAN CAUSE YOUR BODY TO PLAY TRICKY GAMES ON YOU AS WELL AS DIFFERENT MEDICATIONS. BE SURE TO HAVE YOUR DOCTOR TO CHECK YOU OUT THOROUGHLY. REQUEST AN MRI. HOPE ALL IS WELL WITH YOU. THE MAIN THING I FAILED TO MENTION, A LACK OF REST WILL ALSO CAUSE YOUR BODY AND VISION TO MALFUNCTION.

I don t want to scare you but have you been tested for MS? some of your symptoms seem to be some of the symptoms of it. It s a good thing you are seeing the Dr. just be sure to tell him (or her) all your symptoms. good luck.

See site below on natural healing which may help you even if it MS. It also has info on panic disorder. http://www.phifoundation.org/heal.html

You ve just described an quot;A-typical Migrainequot; They cause stroke-like symptoms. Topamax or Zonegran treat the symptoms well. Most doc s won t think that somebody is having an a-typ. because it is not a very common thing. I would deffinately question it.

How old are you? are you allergic to the medication your taking. I do agree with you Anne, MS is a possiblity or Parkinson s.

I am 58 in menopause age experience hot flashes and aches in shoulder.? -

I started menopause at age 54 and was on HRT for a month. and later changed to remifemin for 2 years and stop.for 3 months, hot flashes returned. I restarted on HRT for 2 weeks, until aches disappeared. and continue taking remenferm until now for 3 years. I seem reminfemin is not working. I am feeling of rubber band snapping in the layer of tissue between skin and muscle around shoulders neck and head. Recently I have an uncontrolable hypertension due to sleep apnea. Everyone thinks this is not menopause. Most of my friends never heard for this symptom. Can tylenol relief this pain ? I am going back to taken HRT.

it sounds like you were doing better on HRT than on the natural Remenfem... However the ligament issue could be damge, arthritis, that came from an old injury. The hypertension doesn t have to be from sleep apnea and could be a seprate problel you are having. No, these don t sound like typical menopause symptoms and seems you should go to the doctor about these issues. If tylenol has helped pain for you in the past, it might help you now but it also depends ont he cause of the pain. if it is inflammatory, tylenol won t do much so again, seeing the doctor is best vs self treatment especialy with multiple concerns.

Excercises for hypertention , hypothyroid person? -

tell me about easy exercises for a patient of , hypertension and hypothyroid who is 32 year old lazy man with no work and how to motivate him for the life

I agree, a good walk is usually the easiest thing to attain, however in order to get your bp down you do need to stress your heart a bit, get the heart rate up. Perhaps go to a gym and do around 30 min three times a week on an exercise bike or an elliptical trainer. These are nice and low impact so they don t stress your joints, and they should do nicely

simply getting out and walking - at the mall, around the block, walk the dogs, up the steps instead of the elevator, park far away so you have to walk further. You don t have to go to the gym for hours, just doing 10 mins of aerobic exercise 3x a day is a good way to get it in

Has anyone had to deal with chronic high blood pressure during pregnancy? -

This is my 3rd pregnancy. During my 2nd, in June 2007, I was diagnosed with chronic hypertension at the age of 26. I had problems, my baby was born early but healthy. To weeks ago I found out I was about 6 weeks pregnant. The dr told me that I should not have gotten pregnant and that my body will not be able to carry the demands of a baby. Without too many specifics he said that although he does not believe in abortion that it may be recommended. I do not agree and am therefore seeing a high risk ob in a few days to get clearer answers. Is there anyone who s had to deal with this during a pregnancy?

while having hyper tension it is not advisable to have pregnancy as your doctor said it is you to decide further, but wish you to follow the doctors advice.

The cancer research consipiracy, part II? -

This is to the conspiracy buffs, and believers of the all-purpose, magical, all-natural, miracle cancer cure. There are some things you should know about the pharmaceutical industry. I do not mean this in a condescending manner, but as an inside view. - First, for the quot;naturalquot; cure : 50% of all conventional medecine on the market is of natural origin (including taxol, the most widely used chemo agent). Many research groups test natural extracts on cancer cell lines, including at NIH. We have been doing this for other group ourselves. So far, nothing threw anybody on their backsides. The pharmas do the same, because you CAN patent a natural extract. If you do not believe me, go check some patents. - Second, a pharma makes money selling pills, not doing research. Research costs money. - Third, the best money makers for pharmas are chronic conditions. Antidepressors, anti-hypertension, diabetes type 2, LDL control, asthma and arthritis in particular, are very big.

Hi THere I like the fact you have some guts to talk about the actual facts, but our society is programed for simple minded thinking and we have so much ignorance its really sad. Your fighting a tough battle with this forum, but if only one person hears you then its worth it. I have helped many people over the years to heal their diseases and one of the most important steps and that is cleansing the toxins out of the body. Especially the colon! When you dont have regular bowel movements daily the toxins sit in the colon and get into the blood stream. That is what causes illness and disease (even Leukemia). Cancer is not inherited, it is a lifestyle that has driven the patient to his condition. Anyone reading this with doubts go see the herbdoc.com and realize that he has healed thousands of people for decades (had a clininc in Malibu for 20 years and closed in 1992 because the FDA said you re healing to many people). Once you understand how the body rids of toxins, everything becomes a lot more clear. Keep pressing on to those who will at least listen. Best of heath to all

ignorance is bliss my friend! Report Abuse

FIRSTLY so patenting the method of extraction? this means nothing... i believe people who say quot;pharmaceuticals cannot patent natural productsquot; are talking about vitamins. pointing this out shows the greed of these companies considering we pay for the research in the first place. As they cannot patent vitamins, vitamin B17, is usless to them, because they cannot make money from it. So by banning it, saying it doesn t work - keeps them profitable. sounds cynical, doesn t it. but billions of dollars are at stake. SECONDLY, you re right, WE pay for research, and they patent the products that we fund them to make, and charge us through the roof... it doesn t make sense, does it? are we paying for the priverlege? THIRDLY, the chronic conditions are things that are completely preventable with diet and lifestyle changes... but because healthcare is MEDICINE and CURE orientated, people are ignorant, and ONLY TRUST medicine! it s crazy, food is good enough to keep us alive, but not heal us when we re sick...??? And I am a beleiver in the so called quot;all-natural, miracle cancer curesquot;, why? because studies on animals and people living without cancer, all prove to have diets rich in vitamin B17 foods. There is the Oasis of Hope clinic in Mexico that treats cancer with B17, and dietary adjustments. SURE call it quackery and quot;money makingquot; - but which industry makes more money off cancer cures? pharmaceuticals, by FAR! and who calls B17 quackery...? people who HAVE NOT tested it!!! we have been told by the pharmaceuticals giants, that it is dangerous... (talk about a CONFLICT OF INTEREST!!!) - also cancer is a chronic metabolic disease, and all metabolic diseases can only be cured/reversed/prevented with nutrition, or at least, so says the history of metabolic diseases. people are under the illusion that pharma s are actually looking genuinely into cancer research, but we know this isn t the case. if they really cared, they would be researching vitamins and the like. people don t realise that they re only interested in a conditional and profitable cure. funny that B12 (CYANocobalamin) also has cyanide in it and is safe for human consumption? there is something VERY CORRUPT going on here...

It must be nice to have all the answers and not have experienced cancer or asthma. Have you ever been diagnosed and treated for cancer. I think you haven t. If you were you d have more of an understanding.

I agreed with you up until the point that these conditions are caused by bad diet and and lack of exercises. Evidence is showing that some forms of cancer and a lot of diabetes are genetic. I know 2 years olds diagnosed with asthma ( and no the parents weren t and are not smokers). How about leukaemia let me see you blame that on lifestyle.

SERIOUS QUESTION... What do you think of Los Angelos banning fast food restaurants from... -

...low income areas to prevent obesity? I think that should be done EVERYWHERE! Wow, what a concept...reduce people s consumption of fats which, in turn, reduces weight, which reduces diabetes and hypertension, which in turn reduces the public need for medicaid and welfare to pay for the problems that come with those health issues. I wish we as the general public could do it without government involvement but we cannot seem to quot;push ourselves away from the tablequot; without it. Now, someone is thinking!! What is your opinion? Sandy :O)

I think that violates human rights, point blank, period. If I want to eat fast food, I KNOW it is unhealthy. Why should I suffer because they have nothing else to do with there time but take all our rights away slowly? If I want to be overweight, why is it anyone else s decision but my own? Edit- Is that not what I am paying taxes and health insurance for??? At $100 a month, that should cover ANY problems I shall have. Edit- Do you think poor people are stupid?? Most overweight people I know [including my mom] work and will work for the rest of there lives or until they can retire. My mom works in a hospital and you know the funny thing? My mom works harder than any of the healthy people [and does a better job]. Edit- If it s not about being poor, why are they not removing them from areas with people that have money?

Unhealthy food is usually cheaper than healthy food. Poor people buy unhealthy food for that reason. Unless LA plans on subsidizing healthier choices in the area, it won t help. People will just keep going to the fast food restaurants that are already there because they are cheaper. On a side note, I have a libertarian streak, so I don t think they government should stop us from being unhealthy. I should be able to eat until I weigh 800lbs without the government doing anything about it. I am willing to pay more taxes if necessary to preserve the right to do things that are unhealthy if I choose to.

I highly doubt that will solve anything... If they cant get their big mac, large fries, and a diet coke from down the block they will just go to the next place that sells cheap unhealthy food It really isnt the peoples fault though, rather the business. Say you live in an area and you are limited to a few stores. Most fast food places and markets sell crap with a long shelf like. This includes soda, candy, fast food, and other junk. If these were replaced with healthier food that was more available, then maybe it would change some peoples minds. But most cant go through a day without stuffing themselves with lard, and will go out of their way to do so. Our stores are seriously unbalanced!! This is a problem in our society. Every product fools you with quot;low fatquot; this and quot;light caloriesquot; that. I say scrap all this horrible food, and give us natural stuff. Look around, no one else is as obese as us. Thats becauce other nations dont eat like we do

That is the most retarted thing I have ever heard, so what do they not think rich people don t eat at fast food restraunts, and get fat too, and have problems, the goverment should be thinking about different problems out there, than why people are gaining weight! STRESS ALSO HELPS PEOPLE GAIN WEIGHT....are they going to take all the stress away in our lives to!

It s another example of the socialist liberals trying to tell us what s best for us. Our choice in what we eat is called personal responsibility and it is NOT the job of ANY government (federal, state, or local) to tell us what choices to make! I don t like handing out my money to welfare bums but if I want a greasy cheeseburger (which I rarely eat) then by God I m gonna eat one! I m sick of the liberals trying to mettle in my personal business down to how much toilet paper I use when I take a crap. They need to get to the business of fixing stuff that they are elected to fix and butt out of our individual liberties.

First I ve heard and I m an L.A. Woman.....I think that is insane...once again Big Brother is stepping in to tell us what we can and can t do.....I live in a nice area....with lots of fast food restruants.....what makes the law makers think that the quot;Poorquot; people won t come to my hood to eat....? Instead of focusing so much attention on what they think they shouldn t do...focus more attention on what needs to be done to help quot;poorquot; people....and one more thing....I don t know about everyone else...but I live paycheck to paycheck.....and without my ol mans job I too would be poor......in a month...

I d really like to see fast food disappear or at least become healthy. I m always amazed at what kind of crap people are willing to fed to their bodies in order to be lazier and quot;save some timequot;. It s disgusting! Definitely a public health care problem which I refuse to pay for.

i think it s the most asinine thing i ve heard of. telling people, let alone what quot;theyquot; consider to be a certain quot;classquot; of people, what they can and cannot eat, is freakin insane!!!! talk about discrimination. if they want people to eat healthier, they better make healthier foods more affordable.

I think it should be done everywhere i dont like fast food at all except for the fries that are amazing but yea besides that disgusting...i mean thats only my opinion but yea i thnk it should be banned everywhere its not good for you and thats unfair..

first banning everywhere takes away rights to eat what you want and we know what it can do and cause to the body obesity is not a problum we should worry about there are more important things to worry about like the failing education system and home rates.

i think its stupid. its not there buisness if the poor people or any people for that matter, want to eat fast food and get fat. the government already tell me how to do so much crap as is i dont need them telling me what food i can and cant eat.

I think we should do whatever there is to do to prevent obesity. People aren t meant to be fat. Men and women should be in shape. no excuses.

totally completely agree. in school like half the kids are obese. maybe if ppl stop eating big macs every day the diabetic population will decrease. thats the BEST way to lose weight instead of relying on the nutrisystem diet.

its like saying you cant have convenience stores in certain areas because they may sell cigarettes or liquor or even candy. a lot of fast food places have healthy alternatives, so why ban the entire restaurant?

its tru it should be done and then they should let in more healthier reastrants like i dunno a salad bar lol too many people eating there hearts out or should i say eating thier life away

i totally disagree with banning fast food restaurants. there s such a thing as exercise.

Check out the book FEELING GOOD by David Burns. Take care of yourself Yam King

From what Ive read people are born gay, however this does not help you with anxiety. There are some medications out there that you can use for anxiety, however you would need to see your doctor. There are also meditations available if you would like to try those. The Loving Kindness Meditation is to relieve anger, ill will and thoughts of harm... on the Breath is for stress relief: it would be good if you can hook up with people who are supportive and who know what you are going through and how you are feeling. Maybe there is a Mexican support group online or a gay pride support group somewhere in a town near where you live, just so that you have people who are familiar with what you have to deal with at the moment.

Listen hun...you need to do what makes you happy. You shouldn t be ashamed of being gay.The people who truly love you will stand by you and respect your decisions.I m sure your mom wants you to be happy. As for the people in your small town...who cares what they think, you need to live your life for you,not everyone else. And the doctor who told you that being gay is a choice...hes an idiot.Dont let anyone make you feel ashamed for the way you are. I know it probably sounds easier said than done, but the fact is...until you live your life the way you want to,your anxiety will probably not go away.Stress can aslo cause the physical problems you are experiencing too. I know it probably won t be easy, but in the end its what you should do. hope it all works out :o)

Is Adican and Lisinopril typically given together? -

My brother, sister and I have hypertension which is being controlled by medication. Our Mother and Father both died from strokes. His was ischemic and hers was a bleed. Our eldest brother had a stroke (ischemic) and bilateral carotid endartorectomys before he died of pancreatic cancer. My sister has had one fairly severe stroke (a bleed) which left substantial residual. Overall, not a good familial history. My brother has recently been prescribed Lisinopril in addition to Adican. His pharmacist didn t think this was appropriate. Can anyone shed some light on the efficacy of this?

While I have great respect for pharmacists in general, this one was wrong. Lisinopril is classified as an ACE inhibitor. ATACAND is an ACE receptor blocker. (an ARB ). Both drugs work on the same system to lower BP, but at different ends on the system.

Survey for research paper - Why are certain life-threatening diseases more prevalent in African-Americans? -

Anyone can answer, but I am also particularly interested in anyone who has has Diabetes, CHF, cancer, Hypertension or any other life threatening disease. Let me know your nationality, what disease you have, and when/how you found out you had it... also drop a line about why you think these diseases are more prevalent in African Americans.

Partly genetics and partly that more percentage wise of African Americans do not have access to medical services.

American, no disease yet but have diabetes in the family, grandfather had it from his forties till death in late 80 s. Diseases such as these I believe are more prevalent in African Americans because of their diet and culture. Two of the four you have listed (I don t know what CHF is) can be linked to obesity, which is an epidemic in the African American population. This leads back to diet. Also, cancer can be linked to increased stress. African American culture is not known as an institute of wealth. There is a rich cultural aspect, but not monetarily. This means poorer living conditions, potentially hazardous living conditions, and an all around increase in day to day stress on the entire body and mind. I don t know the statistics on drug use, but poverty is also known to lead to increased use of drugs such as alcohol and tobacco, which also have adverse affects on the body. Kick in a couple of big mac s and you have a recipe for disaster. African American culture also seems to promote promiscuity. Turn on any music video aimed at a Black audiance and you will see women wearing revealing clothing and grinding up on the guys. Whether this is to blame or not, if you take a drive down East Fayette in Syracuse on any given sunny summer day, you will see a large number of 13 to 16 year old girls with babies. What you won t see are the fathers. Rampent unprotected sex leads to the spread of disease. As an outsider looking in, Black culture glorifies sex and does nothing to preach of protections. You want to do a more revealing study, compare African Americans to Africans and see the difference. I bet it is greater than African American vs. White American.

-There is genetic reasons eg MS is less common in blacks but when they have it they do not do well and there is a more rapid progression to disability - The blacks do not respond to medications eg hypertension. Betablockers do not control their blood pressure well but will need a different type of medication or combination of blood pressure pills -The blacks overall are disadvantaged as a group overall they have less access to good health care -They also tend to be less well educated and do not take care of self in preventative medicine -They also have some cultural habits that are translated to poor diets and lifestyle resulting in obesity, etc -A lot of medications are developed based on studies mainly in Caucasians rather than blacks. They do not like to participate in research clinical trials because of the Tuskeggee experiments where they were used as guinea pigs -It is very difficult to get lifesaving organs for transplantation from blacks -They have a higher incidence, prevalence, recurrence and mortality in stroke -Blockages of vessels inside the brain occur more commonly than causcasians -They are the only race that get sickle cell disease I am asian, no disease

stress which increases the need to overeat, drink, and smoke limited physical activity....in the past (my grand parents and great grandparents day) our people were more active (blue collar work like paving roads and railroad work, work in agriculture) plus they walked everywhere almost mistrust of the medical community (fear of dying in hospitals) which prevents many from seeing a doctor inability to pay medical costs (no insurance or limited insurance) which also prevents many from seeing a doctor poor eating habits (in the past our people ate fresh fruit and vegetables, often grown in home gardens or on family farms, now many rely on inexpensive, processed foods like Hamburger Helper, etc) unknown reasons: I include these because there are African Americans and other black people who are doing quot;what they are supposed to doquot; but developing cancer, etc. The medical community does not know why. Most testing has been done on other groups of people but there are now studies being conducted on our people, with some concentration on the elderly and women. An example would be breast cancer...for reasons the medical community does not understand, black women develop more aggressive cancer cells, even when the cancer is caught early and aggressive treatment is offered... There is a Nigerian doctor, whom I believe has citizenship here now, who found in working with African American women the same type of aggressive cancer she found in treating women in West Africa. There seems to be some genetic component involved. I forget her name but if I can find it tonight, I will email it to you. You should be able to find out in Google about women and breast cancer. I work with charities, churches and other organizations, including The Black Women s Health Project.

Can anyone tell me what the care management issues are for the below patient? -

patient A is 79 years old and has chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a condition which she has had for the last 10 years. She has just been discharged from hospital after being treated as an in - patient for a chest infection. She has been prescribed a 7 day course of oral antibiotics and a reducing course of oral steroids. She has also been prescribed salbutomol via an inhaler which she must take using the spacer. This is the first time she has been prescribed this medication. She lives alone in a 1st floor warden aided flat. Her husband died 3 years ago and her daughter (her only living relative) lives some distance away. She relies heavily on the warden and her friends from the local community centre for company, shopping and social support. Patient A worries a lot because her vision is not as good as it used to be and she feels unsteady on her feet. She is not able to leave the house on her own. Past Medical History COPD since 1997 Type II Diabetes diagnosed 1997. Hypertension 1994 Medication No known allergies Salbutomol inhaler Cefuroxime 500mg BD Metformin 500mg TDS Bendrofluazide 2.5mg OD Aspirin 75mg OD Atorvastatin 10mg OD Prednisolone reducing dose from 50mg – 5mg over two weeks Vital Signs BP 150/90 Pulse 90 reg Respirations 20 breaths/min HBA1C – 8%

Has the patient been assessed in her home regarding activities of daily living? Would she benefit from a walking aid? When is her next eye exam scheduled? Steroid use dampens infection response and often results in fungal infections, so does the use of antibiotics so oral candidiasis may be an issue. Her diabetes will need to be managed. You could take each disease process and write a care plan on it and you would have a good quot;cover allquot;.

Late Period...Took Test...Negative...On BC Pills? -

My last menstral period was September 24th. I took a home pregnancy test last night...negative. I took another this morning, negative. I have been on the pill (progesterone only since I have hypertension) since six weeks post partum with my daughter. She is 15 months old. I have been feeling ill this morning; however, I haven t been sleeping that great. Any suggestions??

Stress can cause menstrual periods to be irregular. I was on progesterone and the pharmacist told me it was not effective birth control. Wait one more week then see your doctor.

How do YOU handle stress? -

for me when i get stressed about something, i go crazy. whether it b a test, project, or quiz i freak out all the time. that is why i can t be a doctor.. lol i don t know if it is just me or genetics but i would like to learn how to cope with it better for health reasons. i know that my parents stress out to much hence hypertension, so i know it is in the blood but what are some ways you guys deal with stressful situations. sometimes i don t want to think about things, but they are always there in my head. some techniques i have found useful is listening or playing enjoyable music, taking deep breaths, or drinking water. i would like to go more in depth though. any advice is appreciated :)

I pretend I m NOT stressed... I don t tell anyone I am stressed, I just keep it inside. Eventually, it goes away. Probably not the best way, but...

take a long walk

I cry when I m stressed out. And I listen to positive music like Float On by Modest Mouse, that really brings my mood up... I used to cut myself if it got bad enough, my scars are not visible any more, but I would never dream of doing that ever again... So now I cry and pout. It is a lot less painful. Good luck! Remember cry, and listen to positive music and you will be happy soon enough.

Degeneration of Disc at Cervical spine C3, C4, C5? -

My friend is having the following ailment... Medical Investigation revealed that, there is a degeneration of disc at cervical spine C3,C4,C5 and triglicaroid level in blood is high. Facing constant gidiness when neck is strained. back pain unable to seat for more than 5 minutes.Hip joint pain and fear to move away from home. There is no other problem[stand and walk] Uncomfortable to perform day to day essential activities.Hypertension is also there. When he take alfroxin tablet 0.25mg feeling little comfortable and taking madicine for hypertension. That is amlodefine-5mg twice. He feel comfortable immediately after bed upto 1/2 hour. Your advice is needed for the above mentioned symptoms

For cervical disc problems, I would suggest alternative treatments like Unani, Ayurveda, Chiropractic in that preferred order. With Unani, 90% of people with these problems get complete cure. I do not know which country your friend is living in. But I had the same problem and Unani doctors are there everywhere in India. I got 90% cured in my first visit and I am visiting India again this time for manipulation therapy. If your friend is in USA or other countries, your friend might want to consult to chiropractic with DRX9000c machine. They will decide whether you are a candidate for DRX9000c treatment. I heard disc compression using DRX9000c machine did work very well for many cases. Try all alternative treatments, until you get cured. Try to avoid surgery. 95% people do not need surgery.

i,ve had it for years i take paracetamol or any strong pain killer see a specialist

I Feel a panic attack coming on please help give me some confidence to get through it I have a bad headache ? -

I had my pressure checked two days ago it was normal ecg normal ekg normal blood flow normal please help urgent 10 points constantly worry about things that older people get such as hypertension and other things that i know i shouldnt be worried about

Hakuna Mutata, ain t no passin craze, it means no worries for the rest of your days, sing it kid, it s our problem free, philosophy, Hakuuuuuunaaaaaa mutataaaaaaaaaaaaa

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc. Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level. But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There s this strange herb called quot;St John s Wortquot; - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John s Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc. The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced... you have that quot;learned behaviorquot; in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction... There are several other techniques to help cope them! Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to.... Extracted from Source.

What kind of meds are you taking? You maybe deficient of b vitamin and calcium. Breathe slowly, take your thought that your worrying about and change it to a good result. Example, if you say to your self, OMG, what if I cant get money for my bills? Thats fear of loosing. Which is the root, fear. So even though you feel like its horrible. It may not even happen. So, change that thought for a better thought. You have to be happy to rest and feel peace. So no matter what everything looks like, still hope for the best and not worry about stuff that havent and will probably never happen. God Bless You!

Don t worry, think of something else. When you worry it causes alot of stress to your body and you will make yourself sick. That s why some people who worry alot get stomach ulcers. Tell yourself everything is going to be okay, and it will be, and read a good book or take a really nice bath and eat ice cream and watch your favourite movie. Stop focusing on your health worries.

Anxiety yes, but the real reason is adrenaline. Walk it off, and have a warm bath. Get rid of that adrenaline which is causing it. In the future, relax more, condition your mind to take it easy, or take Inderal/Propranolol from your doctor.

Everything is fine. There is nothing you need to worry about. If you need to talk to anybody, I m here for you. IM at funkyspunky872 or email me at funkyspunky872@yahoo.com

Just try breathing deeply and turn the lights off, call a friend and just try and be calm, im sure youre ok

I have a similar problem. I think it s just anxiety. Speak to your doctor about someone to talk to about this...

yea stressing ova it isn t going to help but make it worse but its really noting to worry about

when u have a panic attack breath into a brown paper bag it really works

Any over the counter drugs for human worms? -

I ve got a swollen belly and people are always asking if I m pregnant but I am not pregnant and my health is deteriorating; hypertension, high cholesterol, constant fatigue, lethargy, overweight, poor vision, etc and I suspect it might all stem from having worms. I crave and consume a lot of sweet foods, sugar and eat alot of meat; I m hungry every 4 hours. I asked my doctor about it and the doctor just blew it off completely by saying in his entire career, he s never seen anyone or heard of anyone here in the US having worms. So my question here is: if I don t know if and what type of worms I might have; is there any over the counter drugs that I can take?

parasites can only be diagnosed with testing, ie: stool primarily examined for ova and parasite quot;partsquot;. I am sure you are referring to intestinal parasites. there is no over the counter worming medication for humans. if you are totally convinced that you have a parasite, then speak again to your doc or find another that will do the testing. good luck

Don t take anything unless you are sure if this is the problem or not. You should make some analysis including blood and stools as well. When you get the result, then think about going to a dr. with the result for a treatment as soon as possible

Medical Benefits of Ramadan ? -

Medical Benefits of Ramadan by Shahid Athar, M.D. Most Muslims do not fast because of medical benefits but because it has been ordained to them in the Quran. The medical benefits of fasting are as a result of fasting. Fasting in general has been used in medicine for medical reasons including weight management, for rest of the digestive tract and for lowering lipids. There are many adverse effects of total fasting as well as so-called crash diets. Islamic fasting is different from such diet plans because in Ramadan fasting, there is no malnutrition or inadequate calorie intake. The caloric intake of Muslims during Ramadan is at or slightly below the national requirement guidelines. In addition, the fasting in Ramadan is voluntarily taken and is not a prescribed imposition from the physician. Ramadan is a month of self-regulation and self-training, with the hope that this training will last beyond the end of Ramadan. If the lessons learned during Ramadan, whether in terms of dietary intake or righteousness, are carried on after Ramadan, it is beneficial for one s entire life. Moreover, the type of food taken during Ramadan does not have any selective criteria of crash diets such as those which are protein only or fruit only type diets. Everything that is permissible is taken in moderate quantities. The only difference between Ramadan and total fasting is the timing of the food; during Ramadan, we basically miss lunch and take an early breakfast and do not eat until dusk. Abstinence from water during this period is not bad at all and in fact, it causes concentration of all fluids within the body, producing slight dehydration. The body has its own water conservation mechanism; in fact, it has been shown that slight dehydration and water conservation, at least in plant life, improve their longevity. The physiological effect of fasting includes lower of blood sugar, lowering of cholesterol and lowering of the systolic blood pressure. In fact, Ramadan fasting would be an ideal recommendation for treatment of mild to moderate, stable, non-insulin diabetes, obesity and essential hypertension. In 1994 the first International Congress on quot;Health and Ramadanquot;, held in Casablanca, entered 50 research papers from all over the world, from Muslim and non-Muslim researchers who have done extensive studies on the medical ethics of fasting. While improvement in many medical conditions was noted; however, in no way did fasting worsen any patients health or baseline medical condition. On the other hand, patients who are suffering from severe diseases, whether diabetes or coronary artery disease, kidney stones, etc., are exempt from fasting and should not try to fast. There are psychological effects of fasting as well. There is a peace and tranquility for those who fast during the month of Ramadan. Personal hostility is at a minimum, and the crime rate decreases. Muslims take advice from the Prophet who said, quot;If one slanders you or aggresses against you, say I am fasting. quot; This psychological improvement could be related to better stabilization of blood glucose during fasting as hypoglycemia after eating, aggravates behavior changes. There is a beneficial effect of extra prayer at night. This not only helps with better utilization of food but also helps in output. There are 10 extra calories output for each rikat of the prayer. Again, we do not do prayers for exercise, but a mild movement of the joints with extra calorie utilization is a better form of exercise. Similarly, recitation of the Quran not only produces a tranquility of heart and mind, but improves the memory. Therefore, I encourage my Muslim patients to fast in the month of Ramadan, but they must do it under medical supervision. Healthy adult Muslims should not fear becoming weak by fasting, but instead it should improve their health and stamina.

That was very interesting. I worked for four years in an Elementary school as an EMT. We had many Muslim students. Being children they spent a lot of time in my office during their lunch hour complaining they were hungry and or had headaches. I felt for them, after all they are just children and felt embarrassed in front of their peers. It was very rare that any student was happy with the idea of fasting - but they all survived. As a Catholic, I too have days of fasting and it drives my kids crazy. They too survive.

SO WAT

I am not Muslim but I do follow your writings and thank you for posting here. You are very informative. Some might grumble about your posts because it d be a stretch to call them questions but I do believe (and hope) most would agree that it s all ok. Best wishes to you.

Beta blockers? -

A friend has told me that beta blockers make you put on weight, is this true? I was surprised when he said this as they are drugs for hypertension and heart problems.

I went on a beta blocker and didn t gain a pound. This may be his excuse not to take it.

sometimes they can cause a bit of fluid retention, so if he put on weight it would be from fluid not fat. or he s a hyperchondriac, decided it would be too dangerous to strain the heart in any way, so sits on the sofa instead of exercising etc, and the weight gain resulted from lack of activity.

I have had a look in to this and i cant see any sied affect like this but if you like i have a web page that u can look on for information http://www.bupa.co.uk/health_information...

beta blockers may cause some fluid retention but overall weight gain is minimal. you have nothing to worry about.

I ve been on beta blockers for 7 years now and no weight gain.

Hi, I have been beta blockers for a while i havent put on any weight

been on them 14 years and am ok

Fluctuating elevated and normal blood pressure? -

my husband 47 yr male with sound family history of hypertension shows very wide fluctuating blood pressure readings. he showed a 126/87 at 6am 151/104 and 137/92 over 2 min gap at 12:30pm and 140/97 and 130/88 at 6pm. I have no clue what to assume for this kind of readings. His doctor advices diet control amp; excercise. His cholesterol is normal and is healthy except for severe headaches once in a while. he is on no salt diet and takes 2 tbsp codliver oil, 1 garlic tab, calcium-magnesium-zinc combo tab, CoQ10 200mg each day and an occasional potassium tab. Diet includes fish at every meal, fresh fruits, a lot of tomato juice and veggies. He cooperates to this diet only out of submission. Should he wait more to start his meds or change his doctor? Is he is at risk of stroke or heart disease if his BP readings shoots up and does nt stay so consistently? is this high fluctuation an indicator of some other underlying health issue? Both Parents and all 3 siblings are on BPmeds, except him.

Blood pressure fluctuates depending on activity. A normal blood pressure is 120/80. Doctors will take a standing, sitting, lying down blood pressure and they will all be different. As so after exercise. If his family is prone to hypertension and he does get headaches perhaps you should talk to your doctor about a BP med. Yes, he could very well have a stroke if this is left unchecked. Diet and exercise does help, but in some cases a med is needed. I hope he doesn t smoke as this also contributes to a high blood pressure. Good luck.

Lose a few lbs.?

I am observing similar variations. A) If you take more than one reading without removing the cuff in between, the follow-up readings will be low. Don t know why. B) If you take readings in a consistent way, always in the same position and with some minutes of rest before, variations get smaller. C) Diets like you describe express a certain attitude to health. This attitude may cause high blood pressure. Better eat a little of everything and you won t need any chemistry. D) As far as i understand, a beginning resp. hidden diabetes may be causing blood pressure variations by larger than normal glucose variations. I am wondering if this explains lower blood pressure in the morning.

Chest pain question please help? -

So I am 34 with panic attacks and a smoker, (know I shouldnt) also have GERD. I was diagoned with whitecoat hypertension, but is normal when I am home. I was having strange chest pains couple weeks ago, got blood work, ekg. normal. They gave me nexium, then aciphex, because of insurance, now they changed to Kapidex, since I started taking it the chest pains have come back, its a burning feeling on the left side of my chest. Now I can feel it in my back to, lasts for about 3 seconds and comes and goes all day. Im so scared its a heart problem. I have another appointment today, anyone have any idea what this could be and if its heart related. Please help and thanks.

Generally any case of pain chest should not be taken light without ruling out a heart ailment. In your case the chances of a heart problem (attack) appear to be rather rare, as you are only 34 years, female. However a control of blood pressure and stoping smoking appears very important in your case. You may undergo the laboratory tests to exclude anaemia, diabetes, and thyroid dysfunction etc.,. Anxiety attacks and a feeling of insecurity at your age is common for which, a reassurance, relaxation exercises, removal of any causative factors for the panic attacks, and balanced diet and exercise may help you a lot. You may please have periodic health checkup and follow the treatment advised by your doctor.

hi, i just want to tell you a little about gerd reflex problems because ive had it for the past 10 years and yes all the symptoms your talking about are normal... its not your heart it has to do with what your eating stay away from caffiene, chocolate, spicy foods, that will make you feel alot better and drink lots of water thats also important because that and when you feel the pain again time the pain and what you had eaten at that time...take care and good luck...

if your EKG was normal, and your BP is usually normal, I very much doubt it s your heart, yet. What you are describing is pretty classic for panic disorder. suggest you check with your local mental health clinic and get into a class for learning the skills you need to cope with your panic.

First, talk to your doctor about this. Stop smoking for about a month or two and see if the pain ceases. I would go outdoors more, go for a jog, a walk. Something. Get yourself active, and get your heart active. Beware of medications. It may cure one thing in your body, but it might affect another thing. Hope I helped!

Sweetie, you need to see a homeopath. Have you told your mum and dad yet?

Sounds to me like you will have to pay out of pocket for nexium or aciphex. Remember the insurance company s job is to reduce cost while increasing profits, not to seek the best avenue of treatment for patients. I m surprised the nexium or aciphex isn t cheaper than the kapidex. If it seems like a burn I would think heart burn first especially if my understanding that it was better with the first 2 medicines. BTW sometimes a letter from your doc can get a medication not normally covered, taken care of. Regular exercise even 2x a week could help your anxiety. Also, yes you do need to stop smoking, in the midst of panic attack control problems isn t the time to tackle that.

Help! I am always a little dizzy, feel drugged almost, having chest pains, shaky hands, ect. whats wrong? -

I am a 23 year old female. 30 lbs overweight. Hypertensive. I am currently on HCTZ and an ACE inhibitor for my blood pressure. Unrelated (at least i think so) to the symptoms i am currently having, over the past 5-7 months i have gained 30 lbs, I have a family history of hypertension, heart disease and numerous mental disorders. I was addicted to methamphetamine for about 2 years, off and on, but mostly on, but have been 100% sober for 4 years (yay me). The only reason i mention this is the symptoms I am currently having, I have been experiencing everyday for about 2 or 3 years. The first time i went to see a doctor for these symptoms was when i was diagnosed with Hypertension. I then began taking my meds for the hypertension and also Klorcon because my potassium was low. Also was prescribed hydroxyzpam 25mg for anxiety, which I, at the time did not believe i had. Anyhow, my symptoms for the past two years have been a weird dizzy/disconnected feeling, as if, everything is hazy and in slow motion. That symptom is very hard to describe. I also feel very shaky, kinda tired, dry mouth, and often feel as though I am going to pass out. I am never nauseated, no headaches. The worst symptom is the chest pains. Omg. It often happens when I am not moving. Often when I am laying in bed. It is so painful that I have to sit up until the pain subsides a bit. It is a very scary feeling. I have had many EKG and nothing has ever showed up on any of them. When I check my BP, it is always normal. I mentioned the past drug use above because, a lot of times, the way I feel is identical to the way I felt when i was high on meth or when I began coming down. I quit because I hated the drug. It made me feel awful. After quitting though, I was very healthy. None of these symptoms. Then two years later this starts. I dont think it could be panic attacks, because its never-ending. I feel ALL of the symtoms from the time I wake up until I go to sleep. Pleas help. I would like some input on what may be going on with my body, before going to yet another doctor, just to have them tell me I am fine. ALSO...as far as phobias...i notice my symptomheightenen when driving, and while at work. I do not know if this haanythingng to do with this. TERRIFIED beyonnormalcylcy of lightening and snakes. My anxiety medication is only supposed to be taken quot;as neededquot;. I really do not take it unless I am at home, because all it does is make me very tired, but i still feel alot of the symptoms. once again, i would appreciate any input.

This sounds exactly like panic or anxiety attacks to me. I had them so severely and for years. I even went to the ER thinking I was suffering an actual heart attack. I started taking an anxiety med (Celexa) daily just to cope and overcome the problem. I also used meth when I was younger and I know exactly what you are talking about. It is sooo scary. I cannot believe your doctor hasn t looked into this and put you on some daily medication. I would definitely talk to him about the possiblity. The symptoms of anxiety can mimick heart disease and others so perfectly. I was also dizzy all the time. Lots of muscle tension in my neck and shoulders. Chest pain, couldn t breathe, couldn t sleep because I was terrified of dying. I have been on my meds for 2 years now, and my life is totally different. You should talk to your doc about this. Also, my blood pressure was high until I got a handle on my anxiety, now it is normal again. Stress does crazy things to your body.

i think it would be easier to talk to a doctor through a phone instead of writing to the ppl on the internet at night.

hypothyroidism - get tested for it. also get treated for depression and stop taking anti-anxiety medication. depression meds will be better for long-term anxiety probs or so i ve been told. try exercising more.

your anxiety meds are they atarax? i had to take that for a anti infammatory but it also said for anxiety n i know others on it :P n tht stuff frys you out, in a daze all the time n forgetful n tht disconnected feelin, heres a link to info n the side effects for it alotta what you mention is in there. i d never take it again or any other mood meds n half the meds they wanna give me after i read upon em n see all the pharmasudical lawsuits on tv :P, theres many other safer ways than a pill to cheer ya up :P always research your meds

Amandas blood pressure is 135/87. Her blood pressure:? -

A is optimal B indicates prehypertension C indicates stage 1 hypertension D indicates stage 2 hypertension

It is according if you are going by the new standards that states 120/70 is normal. So I would say B prehypertension.

I would say B.

b since the bottom number is not 90 yet

What is prehypertesion? -

My dad has hypertension and diabetes.

prehypertension is probly when yr blood pressure is high but not high enough to need medication

www.wordspy.com/words/prehypertension.as...

Hypertension is high blood pressue. Prehypertension would probably be the stage before hypertension. Your best bet is to ask your doctor if you are concerned about having high blood pressure.

Prehypertension is what you get before you really have high blood pressure. Blood pressure around 140 is tending toward too high. This is usually treated with diet, exercise and stress reduction. Diabetes is when the body does not use sugars properly and sugar builds up in the blood and spills over into the urine.

Someone that falls in the category of prehypertension will have pressurs ranging from 120-139/80-90 - anything over 140 systolic or 90 diastolic is herpertensive! Prehypertension is a new diagnosis stature as of last spring.

He has high blood pressure but it can be controlled by a diet if it is hypertension.

My mother aged 50 has Mildly dilated LV,MILD TR, MILD PAH . evrythn else normal ,wat is the danger involvd? -

HER Renal Doppler , ULTRASOUND , CHEST XRAY all normal.Doctors say that she has just Essential Hypertension. from sometime she is experiencing SLIGHT bresthing problem while resting during day time?Whgat cud be the cause?Plz tell me at the earliest?

hi the echo results are essentially normal her dyspnoea is not due to cardiac disease you have to rule out other causes, especially pulmonary better take her to a pulmonologist drjctmd

It is good that her hypertension has been diagnosed, and presumably the doctor is treating that as well. However, her echocardiogram results are not exactly normal, and that could be related to her breathing problem. Congestive heart failure is one cause of shortness of breath while lying down, although it is not the only one, and sometimes the diagnosis is not easy to make. If you would like to get another opinion about her symptoms and her echocardiogram results, a cardiologist would be a good person to see. Good luck, and I hope she feels better soon.

is some good ingormation on hypertension for you. It may answer some questions that you have about it. Always do research when diagnosed. This site is one of the best ones, with accurate and detailed informations. Licenced paramedic

Help! Has this happened to you? -

My brother had a fever last night, and he usually runs kind of high fevers, but it broke before he went to bed. Then about 20 min ago I heard him get up and I heard a crashm so I went out and saw that he was on the floor, looking surprised. He was disoriented for a second, then I said his name and he seemed to snap to it. I asked him what happened. He said that he got up and it was dark and he couldn t see so he turned on his light, but then he still couldn t see, and then he kinda got dizzy and fell over. After he finished talking, he kind of looked panicky, prolly cause I was panicking. And he said he felt hot for a sec. We checked his temp. and it was normal. We also checked his blood pressure which was a little high. This has happened to him once before when he had a really high fever. And that time he was pretty much out of it. but this time he was pretty normal, except that he was nervous about it. I read though, that illness can cause low blood pressure, which can cause hypertension, which can cause fainting. And he s perfectly fine now, but I just wondered, has this ever happened to you?

Yes and you re right about the low blood pressure which is probably what messed him up. The reason is because illness, especially with fever, causes an increase in heartrate. Now that increase alone can cause dizziness and fainting but the increase in heart rate can also cause low blood pressure upon standing. So if he had been lying down in bed and got up, the fact that he was ill would have put him at an increased risk for a hypotension episode where his heart rate would increase even more to accomodate the change in position, due to the force of gravity. But if he stood up too fast and his blood pressure was low enough while lying down (because of the illness likely) then his body couldn t compensate in time to prevent an episode of lightheadedness. So he falls, kind of freaks out and as a result of kind of panicking his blood pressure rises. But yeah, I ve had that happen to me and it s unsettling at the time.

Sometimes when I get up too fast I get dizzy especially when i stretch after i get up and i cant see anything then i start to feel offbalanced and fall

yes alot a soon as i have fallen asleep reallly , but dont worry its not as bad as you think when it first happens its bad cause its the first time but it will settle no worrys . . gd luck babe .

Is it possible that he was sleepwalking?

Describe the relationship between? -

high blood cholesterol levels and cardiovascular diseases such a hypertension, heart attacks, and strokes.

High blood cholestereol is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease like heart attacks and strokes. High cholesterol causes deposits in the walls of blood vessels known as atherosclerotic plaques. Plaques can obstruct the blood flow. If the blood flow to a region of the heart is obstructed completely, a heart attack occurs. Similarly, if the blood flow to a region of the brain is obstructed, a stroke occurs. Stroke is sometimes called a brain attack as well.

Cholesterol is fat that rides around in the blood stream. If it encounters more fat they stick together. The more fat you have floating around, the more they stick together. If they stick together in a tight spot in a blood vessel, they cause a blockage. If the blockage is in a heart vessel, your heart (a big muscle) doesn t get enough blood and kinda quot;suffocatesquot; that s where the pain comes from=heart attack. Same thing in the brain. if the brain doesn t get enough oxygen, some of the tissue doesn t get blood and dies. depending where it is depends on what kind of side effects you have=speech, weakness, etc.. High cholesterol also causes high blood pressure. It causes atheroscerosis which is causing hardening of the blood vessels. If the blood vessels can t stretch, the pressure gets high. Think of a garden hose. If the hose was made of concrete, the pressure coming out the end would be strong, or high. If the hose was made of thin rubber, the pressure on the other end would be really light, because the hose would stretch.......does that make sense???? Hope it helps you visualize it...

6 year old d/with spontaneous pneumothorax..x ray shows distended lungs? -

surgeon is going to fix the spontaneous pneumothorax..however what does the distended lungs mean. She has an appointment with the cardiologist for an echocardiogram. She has had many before and last one showed pressure in the lungs was normal...however surgeon wants another one to measure pressure in the lungs. Her oxygen level is staying at 95 percent or higher...Does anyone know what this could be...I am making myself sick thinking about it. She is six but new doctor informed me that at birth they were very worrked that she has severe pulmonary hypertension..it resolved itself at 1 month of age due to the echo... what are the chances of it coming back and would her oxygen level be as high as it is if she truly had pulmonary hypertension that shows her lungs distended on a normal x ray.

well 95 percent oxygen level is great. So, shes not indicating any pulmonary disease. I don t why its a problem if shes not hyperventilating now. Was there a disease causing the pulmonary hypertension when she was a newborn? If it resolved on its own without antibiotic therapy when she was a newborn, then it may be a thyroid issue, autoimmune disease, or genetic disorder (if you or your spouse has lungs issues). Go get a full set of tests done. Cardiology appointment sounds like a start.
