Can the hypertension drug Mavik (4 mg) be replaced with Accupril (40 mg)? -

The Mavik is 4mg and that s what was originally took. Now Accupril is supposedly related to Mavik and it s 40 mg. Is it safe to take the accupril?

Mavik or ACE inhibitor perindopril (2 or 4 mg) is this: is only related, as an ACE inhibitor also = they do the same thing, but aren t chemically the same thing. Most precautions overlap, or side effects are similar, but specific in certain areas that may apply to you, and hopefully your doctor knows this about you. Now you are taking this: Perindopril from: www.pfizer.ca/english/our%20products/p... Though they would appear to be the same to me, 40 mg. seems to be a large dose. But they match, in relative strength and side effects, since your Mavik was the larger dose. Taking Accupril at same-strength right away would not be logical to me however, since they are different substances and you should be introduced gradually, and work up to it. If you are dizzy, call your doctor. For the same info as in your question, ask a pharmacist. Personally, I don t feel it s right at this time, but can not advise you. If YOU feel the same physically, then there likely is no problem.

Definitely discuss with your doctor first.... there are many medications out there that belong to the same quot;familyquot; but act in slightly different ways....They may also have slightly different ingredients making them up which can cause allergic reactions. Your doctor may have purposely changed you from the Mavik to the Accupril as the Mavik wasn t doing the best job. Because there are so many different hypertension medications, sometimes it takes a little while to find the correct one for you. Always check with your doctor, and if you re not sure, KEEP ASKING until you understand :) Hope that helps!
