If this is a reading you ve gotten on more than 2 occasions by someone who knows how to take it then you do in fact have hypertension (HTN), and not just the borderline kind. Your regular physician can and should advise you better than an anonymous internet forum, but I m sure you ll get some good information from the people on here who like to cut-and-paste eMedicine or Wikipedia articles. And while it d be good to read up on the disease as much as you can in order to ask intelligent questions of your doctor, you should realize the long and short of it regarding getting your pressure down is there s no easy answer or quick fix. HTN frequently requires lifelong treatment and work on your part, and even still results in some pretty nasty complications like stroke and kidney damage before it s through with you. Best thing you can do right now is simply lead a healthier life. Eat well if you don t, stop smoking if you do, exercise if you don t, limit your alcohol and stop doing hard drugs if that s your thing. Your physician, after trying this for a period of months, may then decide to put you on one of several first-line HTN meds, all of which are very good and several of which are $4 at Wal-Mart.
This is definitely a high BP. Did you experience hypertension while pregnant? In addition to getting at least 30 minutes of exercise each day and cutting out any additional salt in your diet, you should document this BP and let your doctor know the next time you see him/her. This is a very high blood pressure and changes need to be made to bring it down as quickly and as safely as possible.
Yes, this is hypertension. To lower your blood pressure, try eating a vegetable-based diet with fish for protein. Limit both salt and sugar intake and walk at least 45 minutes to an hour each day.
