When is it ok to come off of hypertension medication? -

I didn t have issues with high blood pressure until I got married or gained 65 lbs. Im not sure which is causing it because it varies from day to day. Ive lost about 70 lbs and im starting to get lightheaded a lot more and my blood pressure is a lot lower than it used to be. Im afraid that it might be getting too low and I can definately live without the side effects.

Take this up with your doctor. Going cold turkey off the drugs could cause really weird drops in your pressure, so they generally prefer to wean you off over a few weeks time. Then they can take you pressure readings over several days time and see if it s back to normal limits. If it is, and you maintain the weight and diet changes, you may be able to do without the meds from now on. Good luck. It can be done, it has been done, and there s no reason why you couldn t.

Gregory, you need to consult your Doctor first regarding weening off any medication.

Oh, this is a fine place to ask. And people- it s DEFINITELY.

Losing weight is a sure fire way to lower hypertension, and yes, you probably need to quit taking it. I de suggest getting it checked by your GP first.

This is definitely a question you should be asking the doctor who prescribed you the anti-hypertensives.

Don t adjust or stop taking highpertension medication without your doc s guidance. It can lead to a POSSIBLE heart attack or stroke.

when your doctor says it is okay
