I have applied for SSI,how long does it usually take to be approved? -

I have emphysema/copd,chronic back pain(degenerative),hypertension,depressi...

Like anything else to do with the Federal government, it can take a while. If you sent all of the corresponding data (all of your medical records, statements from physicians and your employer that you can no longer work, etc.), it can take only a few months. I filed shortly after I became totally disabled and found out about 2 1/2 to 3 months later. Since you have to be totally disabled for 5 months before SSI starts paying, the 3 months I waited wasn t a problem. I was approved on the first try because I had everything in order. I literally sent my entire medical file, letters from my employer, letters from my physician. I have a terminal lung disease, so my circumstances are similar to yours. Just remember, the more information you give them up front, the faster and more likely you will be approved expeditiously. Good luck.

it honsetly depends on the state in which you are applying and how backed up they are when you apply. If you live in a high traffic state expect to wait years
