For a start, these little machine things are really unreliable. We have one, and one time i was 150/100, and then 5 mins later 110/90. I was really worried, so went to docs (im overweight so added risks). They checked my bp on 3 occasions and it was an average of 100/70. go see gp! and no, please dont worry, because that makes things worse!
You asked what to do. Simple answer - see your Dr! One reason hypertension is dangerous is that by the time you feel unwell, it has gone way too high for way too long. If your family has a home testing machine, then chances are you fall into a high risk category. It is possible that the machine is inaccurate, it is possible that worrying about the results is causing an elevated blood preassure reading, it is possible you have high blood preasure and need medical advice and intervention before it causes permanent damage. See your Dr and find out!
Are you overweight? If it does run in your family, chances are that you do have high blood pressure (hypertension). But, I do agree that these blood pressure meters used for home are often wrong. You should go to your doctor as soon as possible for a full check up. If you blood pressure is too high, there may be another reason for it. So, watch your salt intake and eat a healthy diet, don t smoke and go see your doctor as soon as you can. Good luck!
