Is eating walnuts good for hypertension ? -

There s nothing in walnuts that I am aware that would lower your blood pressure

While walnuts do contain Omega III FA and they have been shown to reduce high cholesterol, there is no direct evidence that high cholesterol and hypertension are related. Report Abuse

Yes. The PA is NOT current on the scientific evidence. Walnuts are excellent sources of Magnesium and Essential Fatty Acids (especially omega-3 fatty acids) - and both are associated with hypertension. Numerous scientific studies have found an association between higher nut intake in the diet and reduced risks for cardiovascular disease (CVD),and hypertension is a risk factor for CVD. A good scientific reference can be found in the medical journal called quot;American Family Physicianquot;, 2004 Jul 1;70(1):133-40. To quote from the abstract: quot;...walnuts also are good dietary sources of omega-3 fatty acids.quot; quot;Omega-3 fatty acids also are used to treat hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and rheumatoid arthritis.quot; May I suggest that it is always best to go to the actual scientific evidence to answer these kinds of questions. It can be very risky to rely on people s opinions (and that would include MY OPINION). Best wishes and good luck!
