Is a person with Cerebral Palsy at risk for hypertension, stoke or any cardiovascular disorders? -

No more so than anyone else in the general population. Because damage to the brain is a one-time event, almost all the effects are there right from the beginning and any risks for hypertension, stroke or cardio disorders are a result of lifestyle choices - just like any one of us makes. Diet and exercise are important, but someone with CP is no more *at risk* than anyone else is. Hope this helps...

Yes and no. Its always a possibility for everyone. However heart diseases are often associated with individuals with CP. CP affects mobility, lack of movement and normal eating can lead to obesity. Obesity is the cause of CHD and other heart diseases. There is only one type of CP (which is Athetoid CP) that burns millions of calories since these individual s have excessive and uncontrolled movements in their body...they usually need to eat more than others, to keep up with the energy and the calories they burn. Hope i helped. Andrea

They can have the same risk factors as people without CP. In addition, any chronic disease increases the risk factors for other conditions including heart disease
