Is hypertension common to professional athletes? -

Are there many professional athletes with hypertension?

Typically hypertension (high blood pressure) improves with a healthy diet and regular exercise. Professional athletes, by nature of their profession, would likely adhere to healthier diets and regular exercise, however, that of course would vary depending on the sport. Swimmers, runners, bicyclists, etc would maintain healthier diets and exercise throughout the year, where some professional athletes may not. So, too, smoking increases blood pressure. However, even with a healthy diet and regular exercise, certain factors remain unchangeable. Genetics, gender, and race are unmodifiable risk factors that can affect people in spite of a healthy lifestyle. So, while I wouldn t generalize that hypertension is quot;commonquot; to professional athletes, they certainly aren t exempt from it.

no
