What Type of Diet Should I Follow if I Have Hypertension? -

Diet regulate your BP in a very effective way.Diet should include high fiber,very low sodium,high potassium,high calcium and low fat. 1.Dietary recommendations suggest avoiding too much sodium. The suggested range is 1,100 to 3,300 mg per day. Table salt is 40 %sodium. One teaspoon has about 2,000 mg sodium. You can take one and a half spoon salt in a day. 2.The amount of potassium in the diet is also important. Potassium works with sodium to regulate the body’s water balance.If you are not having kidney failure ,potassium rich foods should be eaten everyday. 3.People with a low calcium intake seem to be at increased risk for hypertension. Daily calcium intake should be 1000-1200 mg per day.for that you can take skimmed milk,gooseberry etc 4.DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) Grains and grain products,Vegetables,Fruits ,Low-fat or fat free milk or milk products,Meats, poultry and fish,Nuts, seeds and beans is included in DASH diet. 5.Vegetarian diet rich in high-fiber diet has been shown to be effective in preventing and treating many forms of cardiovascular disease, including hypertension. 6.Oriental Medicine practitioners have long used celery for lowering high blood pressure. 7.Garlic is a wonder drug for heart. It has beneficial effects in all cardiovascular system including blood pressure. 8.Onions are useful in hypertension. 9.Tomatoes are high in gamma-amino butyric acid (GABA), a compound that can help bring down blood pressure. 10.Broccoli contains several active ingredients that reduce blood pressure. 11.Carrot also contain several compounds that lower blood pressure.Read more on hypertention and its complications in
