What are the long term effects of pulmonary hypertension? health care providers only? -

my mom has just been diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension. im a nurse and i have never heard of this disorder. ive been looking for it in my nursing books and have found nothing. ive tried searching the internet and found some info about it. my question is...if gone untreated what could really happen.. and if treated will it eventually go away or will she always have it? also what is the lifespan of someone with pulmonary hypertension?

Pulmonary Hypertension if left untreated will eventually lead to heart failure. It causes a back up of pressure back into the right side of the heart causing increased work for the heart eventually leading to hypertrophy of the heart muscle and ineffective contraction. This article will help you http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/36...

there are 2 types.venous hyper tension or aterial hypertension.the latter is rare so i guess your mother has pulmonary vein hyertension.this may lead to right ventricle hypertophy.the signs are acites, peripheral edema(bucket signs).hepatojugular reflux and clubbing.the most severe complication is the right ventricle hypertrophy...and eventually it will lead to death i am sorry for your mum

Lungs receive blood for purification from right ventricle and the right ventricle has to work against high pressure in Pulmonary artery. It weakens the right ventricle if treatment is not taken and more complications may result like heart failure so immediate consultation with Physician is advised.

death -this is so common, it is taught in EMT classes.
