It was designed for long term use. However, no drug comes without side effects. It was more than likely the determination fo your doctors that the benefits of you being on the drug greatly outweighs the downside of using the drug. Also, consider the fact that the risk of stroke and heart arrhythmia s are can be dangerous situations in the short term. I m glad your following your treatment.
As long as it s still working for you, keep going. Over time as people age they become less responsive to certain drugs and that s a possiblility here as well. Your doctor may change it later or add something else as time goes by. Jeff the nurse in Nashville
It was made for that....there are people who end up being on it for there whole lives. If you have any questions you should be asking your doctor. I work in a clinic, many of our doctors have been switching there patients to Metoprolol from Atenolol.Metoprolol is an older drug too,but there have been new studies showing it s better than Atenolol.
