How Does Hypertension/High Blood Pressure Concern A EMT Basic? Shock/Nitro Treatment? What Else? -

Can everyone shoot me ideas of what hypertension has to do with EMT Basic assements and stuff. When is it important? Why does it help to know what it is?

As an EMT Basic, your treatment of HTN really isn t going to be extensive. You re only authorized to give the patient his or her own nitroglycerin as a treatment for chest pain. As a EMT-Paramedic, you can give the patient nitro for HTN, in addition to other drugs (the availability of other drugs depends on which state you work in). Even in a restrictive state like Alabama, I can give nitroglycerin for HTN when the patient has possible organ damage issues. As an EMT Basic, identifying HTN is important. It s pretty common for the average patient to be slightly hypertensive. I don t really blink unless the systolic is above 150, and the diastolic is 100 or above. Sometimes, a patient can be hypertensive from stress or pain. Calming the patient down, splinting fractures (so they are less painful), and keeping the patient comfortable can help in reducing blood pressure. Don t forget about oxygen therapy. It also can help calm the patient down (when you put a patient on oxygen, they feel like you are actually doing something to help them). When you have a very hypertensive patient, they are at increased risk of having a CVA or a brain bleed (that s never a good thing!). Take notice if they are having a headache, blurred vision, changes in mental status, or shortness of breath, and be sure to tell the ALS intercept or the hospital of their symptoms. Other things to consider are if the patient is suspected of having an acute stroke. Generally, you don t want to treat HTN in this instance, because that high blood pressure is actually helping to keep the brain perfused. If they are a trauma patient, and a closed head injury is suspected, then watch out for bradycardia and hypertension, along with altered mental status and changes in respiration. Those symptoms point to a closed head trauma. I checked the New York State protocols (only ones I could quickly find online) and they recommend that an EMT Basic apply oxygen, and if certified, start an IV. They also mentioned (and I thought this was pretty important) that true hypertensive crisises are quite rare, and not to overlook the possibility that the patient s symptoms are from another cause. Hope this helps :-)

Pulmonary Hypertension cures? -

Hello. My mom who I love more than words can ever describe has been diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension. She s my best-friend. She s 55 years old. She has problems breathing, fatigue, chest pressure, and irregular heartbeat. She has to use an oxygen machine at night. My question is, are there any herbs or anything else that could possibly make it go away or pro long her life? I ve heard it s in curable and it only gets worse. But I thought maybe you might have some better answers of things that work. Any ideas of how to reduce stress? Would sipping tea work to help her? What are some steps she can do to extend her life? Thank you for reading. God bless you all. Take care. later... Sincerely, elysiac1983@yahoo.com

Most of the time incurable diseases are, just as they are called, incurable. But basically trying to keep stress level at a minimum is always best for any sickness. Also making sure there is someone who she can rely on for help whether is a reliable neighbor or someone living with her incase something goes wrong. We do live in an era where medicine and technology is developing so quickly its mind boggling. Theres always hope for a pioneering procedure that might be practiced in the near future. And Best wishes to your mom

Unfortunately, no. Pulmonary hypertension is usually the result of a lifetime of not living very healthily. The damage has already been done to the pulmonary system, and now it s simply time to manage the symptoms. If she smokes, get her to stop. If she eats a lot of fatty foods or junk food in general, get her to stop. Stop consuming caffeine. Tell her to take her medications religiously. Teas can help for stress, but stress management is really relative to each person. For her, it may be chatting with a friend, a relaxing bath, or knitting. Talk to her about it.

Professionals/experts. difference between glaucoma and occular hypertension. thanks a lot.? -

ocular hypertension is HIGH EYE PRESSURE. glaucoma is retinal nerve fiber layer loss. most of the time glaucoma (vision loss) is caused by ocular hypertension. BUT! there are some people who have high pressure (ocular hypertension) and DO NOT have glaucoma... and there are also people who have glaucoma (nerve fiber layer loss) in the absence of ocular hypertension. but for MOST people...if you have significant ocular hypertension...you ll probably eventually have nerve fiber layer loss (glaucoma). the hard part is when people have MILD ocular hypertension or pressures just barely above normal. then its a real chin scratcher and is debated in the profession as to how to treat these people. lots of factors. anyone who has ocular hypertension certainly needs a full workup for glaucoma: pressures visual field gonioscopy pachymetry nerve fiber layer analysis (my preference for this is a quot;GDXquot; test: http://www.meditec.zeiss.com/C125679E005...

Glaucoma is NOT a tumor. That said.... Ocular hypertension (OHT) is intraocular pressure higher than normal in the absence of optic nerve damage or visual field loss. Elevated IOP is the most important risk factor for glaucoma, so those with ocular hypertension are frequently considered to have a greater chance of developing the condition. Ok, now here is how it is realated to glaucoma: Glaucoma is a group of diseases of the optic nerve involving loss of retinal ganglion cells in a characteristic pattern of optic neuropathy. Although raised intraocular pressure (ocular hypertension) is a significant risk factor for developing glaucoma, there is no set threshold for intraocular pressure that causes glaucoma. One person may develop nerve damage at a relatively low pressure, while another person may have high eye pressure for years and yet never develop damage. Untreated glaucoma leads to permanent damage of the optic nerve and resultant visual field loss, which can progress to blindness.

Occular hypertension is elevated pressure in your eye. Glaucoma is a form of eye tumor.

Can anyone as young as 18 get hypertension? -

just wondering...

hypertension or any other conditions see no age...stay healthy hun

Yes--especially if they are overweight or have a pre-existing medical condition. My blood pressure has been on the high side (now it is just quot;Highquot;) since childhood. I have one kidney, hence the hypertension.

People of all ages can develop high blood pressure.

White coat hypertension? -

i am a fit 28 year old male, who exersises vigorously 6 times a week, eats plenty of fruits and vegetables, drinks no caffeine, does not smoke and is not overweight (maybe 3 kilos off my fighting weight). There is only late onset hypertension in my family and only a few of my extended family are sufferers at that. I do however get aprehensive whilst having my blood pressure checked for some unkwon reason. I regularly get readings of 160 to 140 (systolic) over 85 to 70 (diastolic). my pulse quickens during the process also. my question is... is it possible that mild to moderate anxiety could push my blood pressure up to these figures? or is it possible i am mildly hypertensive anyway? i am asymptomatic, but most hypertensive are. Any help would be greatly appriciated!

Its absolutely possible to have white coat hypertension...in cases like yours I suggest you get a home testing kit and take some measurements yourself and chart these for your Doctor to study. The Omron brand Blood Pressure machine is a good one. Its a good idea to take your machine in to your doctor when you go so they can test the reading against their professional equipment.. It is also possible that you are mildy hypertensive as well as suffering white coat syndrome. Usually once you are comfortable with your doctor the syndrome will resolve itself.

hey, you should check your pressure youself, buy a cuff or i think doctors give something to monitor your pressure while you are in your house. Anxiety does make blood pressure higher, this happens t me. Sometimes i have normal b.p other times i m at pre hypertension.

yes it happens to me. i have white coat hypertension. what my doctor does is take my bp...wait 15-20 minutes and then take it again. it is usually close to normal by then. i also take mine at home so i can bring the doc my readings.

Anxiety will raise your blood pressure. Next time you re in a department store that has a blood pressure machine check your pressure and compare.

Does hypertension and/or kidney stone(3.3mm) cause proteinuria? -

Two weeks ago, I was diagnosed to have 3.3mm stone/lithiasis in my lower left kidney calyces. Also my blood pressure varies from 120/90 to 140/90. I m 23 y/o male. Protein in the urine varies from trace to 3+. I m afraid that this leads to glomerulonephritis or end-stage renal failure other than just hypertension or kidney stone. In my case, is it treatable/curable? Please enlighten me. Thank you!!!

Yes, they both do. Treat your hypertension with anti hypertensive drugs your doctor will prescribe you (mine you, your target is a BP below 130/80 so you might not be prescribed any) and a change of lifestyle (no smoking nor drinkng no stress, no added salt in food and no fatty foods, also loose weight if you are too heavy for your height). Also, have your kidney stone zapped. Good luck.

Help!!!!!! hypertension ? -

sum1 i know is suffering fm high BP(hypertension) for 25 years.wat shud dat person follow so as turn it down to normal. wat shud b the diet to aid it.

They need to go to a doctor, psychologist, psychiatrist, counselor, etc.. they need to be on meds of some kind for anxiety too.

they need to be seeing a doctor to help them control their HTN (hypertension). They need to be on their meds to help control it plus eat a diet, preferably under 500 mg of sodium daily. Possibly diuretics too. they need to exercise as well. You did not mention if they have any kidney problems (on dialysis), heart or brain problems due to the HTN. They need to take it seriously because it does cause kidney failure, heart and brain too. sometimes it is possible to be doing all the right stuff but still have HTN no matter what they do. I have had many patients like that.

Eat green vegetables and fish. Foods high in potassium (for example bananas) are also especially effective in lowering blood pressure.

A low sodium, low cholesterol diet....he may also need to take medication.

Which hypertension medications cause the least ED problems? -

Lotensin

They all do,except for garlic oil pills. I ve taken viagra now for two years to counteract BP.pills.

The Beta Blocker group of medication can cause ED as their side effect. The safest one is ACE inhibitor group if patient has no history of Kidney problems or Bilateral renal artery stenosis.

Whats a nursing diagnosis for hypertension? -

Knowledge deficit would pertain to a lot of patients which is an actual nursing diagnoses

If by quot;diagnosisquot; you mean a simplified explanation, then hypertension is the same thing as high blood pressure. Blood pressure is the pressure (or force) that your blood puts on the walls of arteries. The reason why high blood pressure is bad for you is because it makes the heart work harder to pump blood (and increases your risk of having a stroke or heart disease). Blood pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) and is read with the systolic number OVER the diastolic number. For example, an average recommended blood pressure is 120/80. Your blood pressure is considered to be quot;highquot; when the systolic number is 140 or greater. The systolic number is the pressure of blood on the artery walls as the heart beats (contracts). The diastolic number is the pressure of the blood on the artery walls as the heart fills up with blood (relaxes).

more than likely ....high blood pressure....can cause or lead to high risk for injury, hemodynamic monitoring, I am at a hospital right now and I asked a nurse.

Symptom of hypertension? -

Occasionally the veins in my hands and wrists appear larger than normal. I am a Certified Nursing Assistant, so I know how to take BP, but unfortunately I do not have a cuff at home. My pulse is normal, around 80-85 BPM. I get headaches upon awaking nearly every morning, but it has been like that for many years. I only get nosebleeds when I have a cold. I last had my BP measured a couple months ago, and it was 110/70 (which is normal for me; I tend to run on the low side.) However, my father has hypertension, so I m afraid that I may be starting to develop it. I recently got the Lupron Depot shot to control my endometriosis, and prior to that I was on OCPs. I am only 17 years old, I have never smoked, I am borderline overweight, I have never consumed alcohol, and I have moderate salt intake. Could the quot;puffierquot; appearance of my veins be a sign of hypertension?

That blood pressure isn t low at all, in fact the new guidelines set by the American Heart Association states that optimal blood pressure is now below 120/80. Headaches and nosebleeds are signs of hypertension, but then again, the nosebleeds come about when you have a cold, so the mucus membranes tend to bleed slightly due to the harsh conditions and headaches may be caused by a number of other things like sinus problems so they need not be attributed to hypertension. Regulations to date state that if a person has a blood pressure above 120/80 that places them in a prehypertensive condition; this condition usually means that hypertension will develop soon afterwards. A good thing to do is to visit your local pharmacy or superstore and purchase a blood pressure machine, be it automatic or manual, and test your pressure every week or so just to check on it. If it remains above 120/80 for a long time, a visit to a doctor can help fix the problem.

Hypertension is a silent disease. There are no real signs of it. There are days that you are going to see veinous expansion and this has nothing to do with hypertension. Remember that veins are on the return side of the circulatory system and hypertension is on the output side. With the other things that you describe, I would say that you have sleep apnea.

Feeling lonely may hurt your heart in more ways than one. A University of Chicago study of 229 men and women between the ages of 50 and 68 showed that those who said they lacked companionship were more likely to have elevated blood pressure, a risk factor for heart disease. People who felt the loneliest had systolic blood pressures (the top number) 10 to 30 mm Hg higher than those who felt the least lonely. Though the extent of the rise in blood pressure increased with age, the link between loneliness and blood pressure remained after accounting for age, weight, smoking, depression, and other risk factors for hypertension. The authors of the study point out that the magnitude of the effects of loneliness on blood pressure was as great as the reduction in blood pressure expected to result from weight loss or increased exercise. There s more news linking loneliness and the risk of cardiovascular disease. A Harvard study has shown an association between loneliness among men and an increase in a type of inflammation linked to cardiovascular disease. In addition, a Duke study has found that socially isolated patients with heart disease have a higher risk of death. These findings are especially significant now, as the U.S. population is aging and more people are living alone. Some research suggests that a feeling of isolation and a lack of companionship may affect more than 11 million elderly Americans as friends and family move, become ill, or die. I agree with the authors of the Chicago study, who suggest paying more attention to family and friends and getting involved in volunteer work and other activities that make you feel useful.

The appearance of the veins on the tops of your hands often has a direct association with how much fluids you have consumed. The little, flat, tiny veins indicate you have not been drinking much; the larger, full veins indicate you have had an adequate amount of water/fluids recently.

- ok, i want you to try this. if you raise your hand, do the veins in your hands still look puffy? cause normally, veins in the hands look distended when they re in downward position and somewhat constrict when they re raised. so if they re still distended even if you raise them up, then there must be a problem. check also if you have distended neck veins. it could be a sign of congested heart failure. - well you seem to have a fine bp reading though. just watch out for symptoms like headache (esp on the nape part), difficulty in breathing, dizziness or decreased activity tolerance. those might indicate hypertension. and just to be sure, have your bp monitored regularly. - regarding your headaches every morning, you just might be (1) experiencing orthostatic hypotension (--a sudden fall in blood pressure, typically greater than 20/10 mm Hg, that occurs when a person assumes a standing position, usually after a prolonged period of rest).what you can do, when you wake up, do not stand up immediately. rise up in progress. OR (2) probably you just didnt get enough rest/ sleep.

Herbal remedy for treating hypertension? -

none of them really work that well, if at all. youre better off just getting a prescription, most BP meds are under $20/month, lots are under $10 unless you get a newer one. and they actually work...

hydrochlorothiazide is a common diuretic, you could get it for under $10 at a lot of pharmacies tell your doc you need cheap. a few studies have found fish oil can lower blood pressure slightly, ~5-10 mmHg, not that good. you could try the garlic thing, doubt it works Report Abuse

Fresh garlic is pretty good at lowering it, you can cook it but make sure you get it off the bulb and not from a jar. Stay away from all pork products and black licorice. excercise and learn to control stress.

herbs are just as natural to your body as meds your doctor will prescribe. only with herbs they aren t regulated at all, and sometimes you get a lot of what s helpful and others that have way too much. plus the side effects are labled, but there are still ALWAYS side effects. if you have hypertension, get good exercise and eat right and see your doctor to get real blood preasure meds.

Garlic is the most common one. Find more at http://www.ayurvediccure.com/bloodpressu...

I haven t found a lot of herbs I d be willing to try, but I keep toying with Resperate. Check it out.

Sudden hypertension in healthy 18 y/o? -

I m a healthy 18 y/o female with no medical history with no known family history of hypertension or heart disease. I don t smoke, drink, use drugs, or drink more than 2-3 caffeinated drinks per week. I exercise regularly and I m in good shape. Because I am an EMT and have been taking and helping teach various health care classes for the past year, I ve had my blood pressure taken regularly (about weekly) for a year. It s always been roughly 110/70. A couple of weeks ago I went to donate blood and it was 140/90. I didn t believe that number, but had multiple different people take my BP at different times, and it was indeed 140/90, although just a week or two prior it had been 110/70. I ve been seeing my doctor and a cardiologist, who have confirmed my BP is 140/90. Two 12-lead EKGs have revealed no abnormalities. On auscultation an innocent heart murmur is heard. My GP took bloods and I haven t heard the results. The cardiologist scheduled me for a stress echo in 2 weeks. I m currently hooked up to a month-long cardiac event monitor, which keeps triggering itself several times a day due to tachycardia at over 150 BPM, even though at the time I wasn t doing anything more strenuous than walking up stairs. I m really concerned but the cardiologist seems really nonchalant. What are the possible causes?

wait for answer from your GP but you should relax for a while and see what happens. take some time off of work and just chill out. It sounds like you might have primary hypertension, hypertension with no cause but don t stress. because there is always a chance you don t have it.

Its probably best that you wait it out and hear what your GP has to say. From the face of it, it appears that you may have what they call quot;white-coat-hypertensionquot;. Pushing up your BP every time you take a BP reading.

Sounds like primary hypertension, hypertension with no cause.

Hi I am 20yrs older than you !! however my blood pressure has always been within normal limits unless taken by a doctor, nurse etc. This could be the problem in your case. Anxiety may be another cause. You have done the right thing by going to see your GP. Did he refer you to a cardiologist purely based on your high BP? Or did the heart murmur prompt a referral? Try and relax and hopefully your BP will come down. At least you are being thoroughly checked out. Good luck Caro

If you have hypertension, can you still drink coffee? Maybe decaf? -

decaf sounds good though no decaf coffee is absolutely decaf. to give u an idea, 4 cups of decaf make a cup of regular. caffeine does aggravate hypertensive situations. also avoid colas.look for caffeine free lime sodas.

Ur best bet would be to check with ur doctor and get his/her ok. In my opinion decaf is the best choice since it is healthier for the body then all that caffiene.

What role does cholesterol play in hypertension? -

it has to do with in science

cholesterol cause plaque build up within the arteries. this inturn causes a higher afterload which is the amount of resistance needed to eject blood from the heart. with a higher resistance the workload of the heart is increased. all this leads to hypertension

High cholesterol and hypertension are two different things, but they often come together with disastrous consequences. Stroke, heart attack and an assortment of other coronary heart and artery diseases can be caused by high blood pressure resulting from high cholesterol levels. Unfortunately, the most common diet and exercise life style maintained by people in the western world can easily lead straight from high cholesterol levels to high blood pressure, hypertension and on to the more serious life threatening heart diseases. Hypertension is when your heart has to continuously work too hard to push blood through your body. Cholesterol is a necessary part of all the cell membranes in your body so you can t simply eliminate it from your diet and body. It is essential for the proper functioning of all your cells. The issue with cholesterol is balancing your consumption. Your liver actually manufactures cholesterol. So if you consume a large amount on top of that, it tends to reach unacceptably high levels. There are lots of things you can do to maintain a healthy cholesterol level. Almost all of it comes under the heading of keeping to a healthy diet, maintaining a healthy life style and exercising regularly. Fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains should be the corner stone of your diet and not simply items used to supplement a fast food or fatty food diet. Maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle are the keys to controlling hypertension caused by high cholesterol. what role does cholesterol play in hypertension? High cholesterol causes hypertension.

High cholesterol and triglycerides promote plaques deposits onto the arterial walls that become smaller in diameter. This will increase the blood pressure as the arterial wall cannot expand anymore. Formula is: Pressure = Force (constant)/surface area. If surface area decreaes Pressure would increase as Force is a constant.

How to combat the sleepy side effects of a med? -

I have been placed on Aldomet (methyldopa) for pregnancy-induced hypertension. One of the side effects is drowsiness. I ve been wicked sleepy every day I ve been on it, and today, my doc upped my dosage and I ve been completely WIPED. Any ideas on how to combat the overwhelming tiredness? Napping all day is wrecking my life, not to mention, it s pissing off my workmates!

keep hydrated, avoid excessive carbs and heavy greasy meals and exercise some if it s ok with the doc, that tends to get endorphins going and will make you a little more alert and less sleepy.

First, remember you are pregnant. Pregnancy for many women causes lithargy, tireness. But if the doctor has placed you on a medication and upped the dosage, maybe your body is telling you that you do need to rest. You have to take care of yourself for the health of your baby. Use your fifteen minute break to rest and lunch. If you can go lay down and elevate your feet. Weather permitting maybe in your car. Hopefully this break will energize you. When you go home, rest. Let the housework pile up or someone else take care of it. Rest. And make sure you go to bed and get enough sleep. Consistency of going to bed at the same time each night will encourage a good night s sleep. Oh, did you report the side effect to the doctor? If not, why not? Many times side effedts subside after about ten days but remember each increase is a new quot;time clock.quot;

Call the Doc or a pharmacist!

you re pregnant and on meds? i am sure your deformed baby will thank you for that.

It s called Maternity Leave so LEAVE already! Geesh, do ya need a special invitation? Hope ya catch some clues before you child amp; the rest of us suffer!

I have hypertension, i walk and exercise for abt 75min.everyday,but unable to lose weight, what do i do ? -

To lose weight easily, follow this simple diet routine, proved to be more effective: General Motors Weight Loss Diet, a.k.a. The GM Diet* - An e-mail received from Shri M Siddique (who recd from Ravindra Jaju) Have you heard of the Physics Diet? As common sense goes, prevention is always better than cure! The following diet and health program was apparently developed for the employees and the dependants of General Motors Inc. The program was developed in conjunction with the grant from the US Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration. It was first tried at the Johns Hopkins Research Centre and was approved for distribution by the Board of Directors of General Motors Corporation at a general meeting on August 15, 1995 . General Motors Corporation wholly endorsed this program and is making it available to all employees and families. This program will be available at all General Motors Food service facilities. It is the management’s intention to facilitate a welfare and fitness program for everyone. This program is designed for a target weight loss of 5-6 Kgs. per week. It will also improve your attitude and emotions because of its systematic cleansing effects. The effectiveness of this seven day plan is that the foods eaten burn more calories than they give to the body in caloric value. This plan can be used as often as you like to without any fear of complications. It is designed to flush your system of impurities and give you a feeling of well being. After seven days you will begin to feel lighter by atleast 10 pounds. You will have an abundance of energy and an improved disposition. During the first seven days you must drink 10 glasses of water each day. DAY ONE All fruits except bananas. Your first day will consists of all fruits you want. It is suggested you consume lots of watermelon and cantaloupe. DAY TWO All vegetables. You are encouraged to eat until you are stuffed with all the new and cooked vegetables of your choice. There is no limit on the account or type. Avoid oil and coconut while cooking vegetables. Have large boiled potato for breakfast. DAY THREE Any mixture of fruits and vegetables of your choice. Any amount, any quantity. No bananas yet and no potatoes today. DAY FOUR Bananas and milk. Today you will eat as many as eight bananas and drink three glasses of milk. You can also have one bowl of vegetables soup. DAY FIVE Today is a feast day. You will eat 1 (one) cup of rice. You also have to eat 6 (six) whole tomatoes and drink 12 (twelve) glasses of water today to cleanse your system of the excess uric acid you will be producing. DAY SIX Today is another all vegetables day. You must eat 1 cup of rice today and eat all the vegetables you want cooked and uncooked to your heart s content. DAY SEVEN Today your food intake will consist of 1 cup rice, fruit juice and all the vegetables you care to consume. Tomorrow morning you will be five to eight kilograms lighter than 1 week ago. If you desire further weight loss, repeat the program again. Repeat the program as often as you like, however, it is suggested that you rest for three days before every repetition. You have your system under control now and it will thank you for all the purging and cleansing you just gave it. Even more than a diet program it is good to follow this diet once in a while to clean your digestive system and remove toxic substances that have a accumulated in the system. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS The most important element of the program is the 10 (ten) tall glasses of water a day. You can also flavour the water will some lemon to make the drink easier. While on the program, take only black coffee and never more than one teaspoon of oil. Preferably do not use oil because the high calorific content. No fruit juices before day seven. Here is what happens to you body while you are on this program and how and why it works. Day 1: You are preparing your system for the upcoming program. Your only source of nutrition is fresh fruits. Fruits are nature s perfect food. They provide everything you can possibly want to sustain life except total balance and variety. Day 2: Starts with a fix complex carbohydrates in the form of a boiled potato. This is taken in the form of a boiled potato and taken in the morning to provide energy and balance. The rest of the day too consists of vegetables which are virtually calories free and provide essential nutrients and fibre. Day 3: Eliminates the potato because you get your carbohydrates from fruits. Your system is now prepared to start burning excess pounds. You will have cravings, which should start to diminish by day four. Day 4: Bananas and milk. You are in for a surprise. You probably will not be able to eat all the bananas allowed. But they are there for the potassium you have lost and the sodium you may have missed during the last three days. You will notice a definite loss of desire for sweets and you will be surprised at how easy this day will go. Day 5: Rice and tomatoes. The rice is for the carbohydrates and the tomatoes are for the digestion and the fibre. Drinking a lot of water purifies your system. You should notice colourless urine today. If you do not feel like having one cup rice, you may eat less. But you may eat six tomatoes. Day 6: It is similar to day five. Vitamins and fibre from the vegetables and carbohydrates from the rice. By now your system is in a total weight loss inclination. There should be a noticeable difference in the way you look today compared to day one. Day 7: You may celebrate with champagne. You may also have white wine instead of champagne, but in all practical programs, and in all surveys done to measure the success of the program, General Motors employees have always preferred champagne to white wine. More than one cup of coffee with milk is especially forbidden. Milk and oil add empty calories to your diet. Avid coffee lovers can console themselves with black coffee. However, after the first week, it will help your digestion and set your stomach. The key thing to remember is that if you are hungry at any time, then you are not following the diet correctly. Almost all people give up the diet when they are hungry because of dieting. The secret of this program is that you should never hungry. If it is a vegetable day, eat so much vegetables that you are never hungry. If it is a fruits day, eat so much fruits that you are never hungry. You may be bored of eating vegetables all day, but you should not be hungry. You can take any amount of General Motors wonder soup on any day. GENERAL MOTORS WONDER SOUP The following soup is intended as a supplement to your diet. It can be eaten any time of the day in virtually unlimited quantities. You are encouraged to drink large quantities of this soup. · 23 oz water · 06 large onions · 02 green peppers · 03 whole tomatoes · 1 cabbage · 1 bunch celery - add herbs and seasoning as desired. This program is highly recommended for women and men above 40 for whom excess weight is especially dangerous. Excess weight for women aggravates arthritis problems and leads to rapid joint decay. Pain and joint deterioration can be lessened by weight loss as weight loss removes the stress on the knee joint. Excess weight is the most critical factor in keeping good health and excess weight is responsible for the most problems including coronary diseases, heart problems, arthritis and cancer among other serious life threatening diseases. Most serious health problems can be avoided by the single function of maintaining an ideal weight. Daily mild exercise of 20 minutes is also essential. Do not tire yourself out, but being regular in your exercise and maintaining an ideal weight goes a long way in ensuring a happy, healthy and long life. Wish you the very best in your endeavour! AJM

Nice that you are determined to loose weight. Very nice that you are xercising regularly. But remember one thing , weight is like bank deposit. If you want to reduce the balance, you got to do two things. One reduce depositing(fat) and increase spending(burning the fat). Wish you will concentrate on reducing fats, carbs etc from your diet while maintaining your exercise rtegimen intact. Best way is to take some professional help initially or browse the net. There is lot of help available readily.

There are a lot of potential reasons... How long have you been exercising? You will generally create muscle, which does eat calories to survive, but will add pounds in the beginning, before helping to burn fat later. Are you taking BP meds? Atenolol or similar meds, especially in high doses, tend to suppress adrenaline production and function to slow your body (and your metabolism) down for some people. If you are, tell your doctor what you re experiencing and they may be able to cut your dose some. Have you begun to eat more since exercising? It makes you hungry, so be very careful not to increase too much, or start eating bad foods after beginning exercise. Are you getting enough rest? This is every bit as important as exercise. Could be bunches of things, but you may have luck writing down what you are/are not doing. Hope it helps some.

If you follow the same workout routine over a period of time then you your body will stop showing you the results. you need to constantly change the your workout program on your self. yes it is, you can but it will take some hard work from your side. let me tell you about my personal experience. i was about a 115 kgs till about two months back, now i weigh 93 kgs. I personal was not very comfortable going to a gym because of my weight, and tired a whole lot of stupid stuff to get back into shape, with every time i failed i felt more discouraged. One day i found this company called X-attack through google. their concept looked really interesting , it was a extreme 90 days based in home training program, with ton of workout to do at home, and a hot shot nutritionist dedicated to make program for you, they even had a free fitness consultation number their so i called them. They really seemed to know a lot about the anatomy of a body , and nutrition and all that stuff. I have been of this program for a a little over 2 months, My body is finally talking a shape, i still have a long way to go but the way does look promising. I did all this by workout out and eating right . No crazy pills , crash diet , or stupid creams, my hard work. the workout includes ton of workouts styles including Yoga attack or as people like to call POWER YOGA . But you kinda do have to be motivated and to follow this program as its not a cake walk, but if you do live through it then the results are worth the pain. They are a Canadian based company that recently started in India. I hope this ends your quest to loose weight effectively . here is their web link if you want to get more info www.xattack.in

Why does hypertension become risk factors of stroke? -

Hypertension basically means stress - When you are stressed, your heart need to work harder, to pump the blood around in your body. As a result, your blod pressure will go up. High blod pressure increases your risk to get a stroke.

Tell me about hypertension and the latest breakthroughs.? -

Grape seed extract, Omega-3 oils, phytosterols and great vitamins

will find all the details.

Can hypertension cause tightness in the chest? Have been checked out by heart dr. and can find nothing.? -

Yes it can, specially in anxiety induced hypertension, or if the readings are too high. BUT in your case other causes like GERD, anemia, Stimulants, and muscular has to be excluded

Hypertension can certain cause heart problems which in turn can cause chest pain, but it sounds like you have had those types of problems checked out. There are a variety of things that can cause chest pain or tightness including lung problems, GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), musculoskeletal pain from injuries or arthritis, and anxiety are some of the more common ones.

Saturated fat is the main dietary cause of high blood cholesterol. Saturated fat is found mostly in foods from animals and some plants. Foods from animals include beef, beef fat, veal, lamb, pork, lard, poultry fat, butter, cream, milk, cheeses and other dairy products made from whole and 2 percent milk. All of these foods also contain dietary cholesterol. Foods from plants that contain saturated fat include coconut, coconut oil, palm oil and palm kernel oil (often called tropical oils), and cocoa butter. High cholesterol causes high blood pressure. The best thing for high cholesterol is Losing weight. A plant-based diet in conjunction with a properly conducted fast most often leads to a total recovery or a vast improvement in hypertension and angina.

Does sinusitis increase blood pressure? i mean if u suffer from hypertension.? -

Antihistamines certainly can increase your BP. And irritation from symptoms of sinusitis can agitate you enough to have increased BP.

What kind illness depletes potassium and magnesium? -

I am 34 weeks pregnant and have hypertension and getational diabetes. i would like to know if there are anyy illnesses that make these critcally low. if you have any ideas please let me know.

I dont know if they create magnesium and potassium def., but I know diabetes of any kind can block absorption of good carbohydrates and cause the baby to not get enough nutrients.

Kidney diseses. But I would say it s probably somethng related to the pregnancy and will go away as you give birth

What do you do to quell the odour of garlic oil? I take 2 tablets daily because of hypertension? -

Chlorophyll is the way to go. Pills or parsley. Gargling does no good as the smell is in your bloodstream, not your mouth.

There is nothing that will get rid of that odor except time. There are other brands of garlic that have been processed in such a way that they do not cause that odor. Just go read the labels of all the different brands and see.

Anyone familiar with Reliv products? They say it really works for Hypertension, and Diabetes...? -

I am Very familiar with the Reliv products. I was introduced to them about 1-1/2 years ago and have gotten great results with many health issues, primarily my Atrial Fibrillation (life threatening palpitations). My husband has had great results with blood pressure (hypertension), rotator cuff issues, RLS, etc. A very good friend of mine has been on the Reliv products for almost one year and has had great results with his diabetes , weight issues, etc. If you would like to know more about the company and the products, I would love to share more information with you. My email address is quot;candylisto@yahoo.comquot;

Yes, I was adistributor with them about 5 years ago. It is a good supplement and at the time there were not too many products, However what they had were good. I never had any customers that had diabetes, but it did work on Hypertension. I basically took it to lose weight which I only lost a few pounds. However since then I have been on two other Nutraceutical company products and the outcome was I had to change my way of eating , and that basically is the thing that really helps diabetics especially. We have a product especially excellent for diabetics. If you would care to email me to learn more use newbegin@shaw.ca with the subject quot;Hypertension amp; Diabeticsquot; and send me your question. I know we can help you.

What kind of exercises can you do when you have hypertension? -

to lower high blood pressure

all exercise will help to lower blood pressure. the best type of exercise to do is one that is realistic for you to keep up. brisk walking daily for ~30 - 60 minutes or as you are able is very effective. Remember also: avoid adding salt to cooking/at table, avoid salty foods like potato chips, sausages, processed meats, processed foods in general. salt holds on to water in the blood, increases the volume of blood in ur vessels and this makes blood pressure high.

Can fever cause hypertension? -

Being quite sick recently, I had a fever of 40.8. I was wondering if what I was told is true, that high fever can cause high blood pressure, and in turn cause severe nosebleeds, as I was standing over the sink for around ten minutes at a time, sometimes up to three times a day, with blood pouring out of my nose, while I was sick...

What country are you from. Here in America we have no fevers that are 40.8 Anything over 104.8 and higher would send you to the hospital and No it cannot give you hypertension. Hypertension is caused by other things maybe you need to google it. I have hypertension from stress and smoking and drinking. I gave up both smoking and drinking but still take meds for hypertension. Fever does NOT give you hypertension no matter what anyone on here says. Try asking your Doctor and if you really saw one he/she would put you on meds and help you get that fever down.

Hypertension and birth control pills? -

I have been on birth control pills for 15 yrs, I am now 30. Recently I developed hypertension. How long after I stop taking the pill should my bp return to normal (if the birth control is the reason its been high)?

From personal experience, the hypertension may or may not be due to taking BC pills. My blood pressure was also elevated and, after talking to my doctor, and stopping the pill, my blood pressure did not begin to lower until I started exercising regularly. When I decided to stop the pill, I started monitoring my blood pressure regularly at home, using an Omron machine to give me accurate readings. After 30 days, there was still no change, but when I started regular cardio exercise, my numbers started to decrease. Writing the readings down was really helpful because it allowed me to see a pattern in the days after stopping the pill. It also gives you information to take back to your doctor to determine if your BP is elevated due to the pill or something else. Good luck to you!

You need to stop taking birth control pills now and never take them again. You just increased your risk for a stroke. The birth control pills are not causing the hypertension. The hypertension connected with the birth control (and smoking) make you high risk for a stroke.

As soon as the last pill you took is out of your system. 24 hours. I highly doubt if you took them for 15 years that they are the cause of your hypertension.

I would think 1 to 3 months... after your hormones balance out.

birth control and your age is why your blood pressure is high, get off BC and try new form of BC

What is considered high blood pressure for a 19 year old? -

When I was at school, my university doctor diagnosed me with high blood pressure. I took medication (Atenol sp?) for a while before running out and summer vacation starting. I saw my family doctor at home now 3 months into summer vacation, and he said my blood pressure is fine. I recently decided to log my blood pressure over the past month. Thus far in the morning it s averaging at 135/79, and at night 136/85. Hypertension starts at 140/90, which it looks like I m just beneath. My family doctor says im in the 95th percentile for my age in blood pressure, but 95 still in the range that it s normal... Should I be getting a third opinion? Could it be higher because of the stress at school? Should I be taking blood pressure meds? I really dont wanna die of a heart attack when I m 35, so advice is appreciated here.

there is a lot of factor about u hbp, family gen, u dad or u mam has hbp too?? or bad diet , u have a hbp for sure and u have to take the atenol for a while in conjunction with a strict diet, try only vegetables, no salt, no sugar, change the white sugar for the brown, no sweets, change the sweets for fruits, no rice, change the rice for steam potatoes, on Saturday and Sunday eat meat white and red, avoid the fish and crab ..ah for sure avoid the coca cola and other sodas, avoid the orange juice and other no natural juices change for natural juices -avoid the sugar-. Avoid the alcohol and dont smoke. Do exercises Monday to Friday if you get tired only Monday to Thursday and rest Friday Saturday and Sunday, with 30 minutes run in the tread mil -4- is enough, and do abs and lift weight. Well i think is not the stress at the school maybe a little bit but for sure is about your body, maybe when u go to the doctor u get a little bit nervous, try to use u own bp machine at the school or in u free time anytime and u can check or usually at the supermarket. But for sure take u meds and keep u diet this is for long time, but dont worry everything is g b OK, u dont need to go to another doc is OK is not the end of the world.

You need to take the advice of your Dr.You are with in normal range but you are still borderline, what they call prehypertntion and you dont want it to get higher than that, you need to keep track of it and take it often it can rise and you not know it thats why they call it the silent killer.

Hypertension, should i worry if its moderate? -

my average blood pressure over the last couple of weaks every day has been about 150-162 for the systolic (top), and 90-107 for the diostolic. This is from a machine at home, do you think that i should go to the doctor to check it out, or what should i do.

Get it checked but do not take drugs for it. Yes kidney problems definitely affect it so chek your kidneys. There is a blood pressure tea that has herbs that help the kidney and liver. If it is not from the kidney problem then do natural things to lower it like exercise (see site below).

Absolutely go to the doctor. That is fairly high and high blood pressure can put further stress on your kidneys.

That makes a difference. Not sure what your problems are...but that s a tad high for an everyday walking around blood pressure. If you have kidney problems, many blood pressure meds can add to the kidney problems ...so you d be wise in discussing it with a doctor and even a pharmacist as to medical options. Garlic and Cayenne capsules, 2 taken 3 times per day can help with BP...but again without knowing the extent of your kidney issues..it s a tough call. I would also look in your area for a practicing Naturopathic doctor for even more options... Time to check things out properly to avoid future problems...no reason you can t have everything addressed and some solutions worked out.

Should a 23 yr. old follow up if finds out she has hypertension? -

Absolutely. The sooner this is caught and treated the better.

If you have been diagnosed with hypertension I assume that you are under a physician s care. If you think that you have hypertension but are not certain then you need to discuss the matter with your physician. The diagnosis of hypertension is not based upon a single or even 2 readings but rather 3. I regard elevated office blood pressure readings as identifying which people need to follow their blood pressure at home. The blood pressure rises and falls during the day - and from the lowest to the highest reading - the difference may be as much as 50/25 mm Hg. The medical literature recommends one of two home blood pressure monitoring devices: the RelyOn and the Omron. Home blood pressure should be taken 1st thing in the AM meaning wake up - go to the bathroom (which is what most of us do) - and then take your blood pressure. Readings taken in this fashion are the most accurate and reproducible. The goal for a 1st thing in the AM blood pressure is 115/075 mm Hg. This number was chosen as there is a linear increase in cardiovascular risk above 115/075 mm Hg. Indeed for every 20/10 mm Hg above this cardiovascular risk doubles. This means that a 1st thing in the AM reading of 135/085 mm Hg (which may seem normal to you) represents twice the cardiovascular risk of someone whose reading is 115/075 mm Hg. Please do not misunderstand. If you have hypertension and your blood pressure is brought down to 115/075 mm Hg you have minimized but not eliminated the increased risk. Functional changes in the endothelial cell which lines the arteries begins 5 to 10 years prior to the blood pressure elevating. Abnormal function leads to structural abnormalities. Treatment improves this circumstance but is not able to undo all of the damage. There are 2 types of hypertension: Primary and secondary. The term essential hypertension should never be utilized as there is nothing essential about having a disease. Primary hypertension makes up 95% of the cases. The cause of primary hypertension is unknown. Secondary hypertension means that the elevation in blood pressure is due to something else. Most commonly this is renal (kidney) disease. It should be relatively easy for your physician to determine whether you have hypertension and if you do whether it is primary or secondary. If you have further questions please email me at johnerussomd@jhu.edu. I wish you the very best of health and may God Bless.

to be diagnosed with hypertension, u need 2 consecutive elevated blood pressure readings on 2 separate occasions about 2 or more weeks apart. and yes, if ur diagnosed with it, u may need to be on medication. if its not too high (pre-hypertension), u may get by with just lifestyle modifications such as exercise and improve ur diet. but definitely folow up as u may have an underlying disease such as pheochromocytoma or hyperthyroidism.

if ure questioning as to whether to follow up on it, u need to because there must be something making u thing u have it. Hypertension is a very serious condition

Benign Intracranial Hypertension/Pseudotumor Cerebri...I have this...Does Anyone Else? -

I just got diagnosed with this Friday. I cannot believe this since it is so rare to get it. What is it like? PLease share your experiance with me so I know what to expect. Thanks!

I have it! lol it sucks. i m a freshman and like nobody understands the **** i go through. I dont know how i got it or anything. Its where your body thinks it has a brain tumor and produces more cerebral spinal fluid. I have had 4 spinal taps, to relieve the pressure. Basically to sum this all up i have a super bad headache that never goes away alllll the time, and my eyes get huge dilated sometimes. For most people after the pressure is relieved your head feels soo much better, but not for me. Please feel free to contact me. I know alot about this and will be glad to help. I kinda feel better knowing someone else has this besides me! -Abbey

I was just diagnosed with this also. I start Diamox today. I had a tap done, my opening pressure was 37 and it was supposed to be under 20. I am very scared of going blind since I have had a lot of vision problems due to this. Report Abuse

Does marijuana help with stress or hypertension? -

In terms of stress: Sometimes yes, sometimes no, it all depends on every individual s circumstances. Some people who get high on marijuana get paranoid and freak out . That s certainly not a stress reliever. However, marijuana is a muscle relaxer and can cause euphoria in users (which can lead to laughing). Relaxation reduces stress, and laughing (and just being happy in general) can have several beneficial psychological and physiological effects on your body (possibly even reducing hypertension) refer to this site for info on that: Hypertension, however, (and I assume you mean quot;high blood pressurequot;) I m not too sure about, because marijuana speeds up your blood pressure and your heart rate, so I don t know if it s good for hypertension necessarily. Maybe a physician on this forum can clarify but keep in mind that everybody s body is unique and although it may relieve hypertension in some people it might not in others, but I m going to err on the side of caution and say that it doesn t. I hope that helps answer your question.

i have no clue what hypertension is but i would say that yes it can help with stress. im not sure if you mean medically or illegaly either way tho... ;)

For those with hypertension...? -

I have been diagnosed with hypertension, put on HCTZ. Labs for kiddney function back on Mon. Have any of you ever had a searing, stabbing pain in your lower back especially at night. When you get up and urinate it goes away? I have this and wondering if when the tests come back they will indicate kiddney disease. Anyone with that experience with HTN?

I am not a Dr., but I am an RN nursing student. So in saying that, I have seen and read in a lot of my nursing books that HPTN is the number 1 cause of kidney failure. I did several clinical at a dialysis center, and most of the clients there are on dialysis for kidney failure caused by HPTN. Ask your doctor at your next check up. I hate to scare you, but I just can tell ya what I have seen.

What is a Fistule of the Brain? -

My Mother had what is believed to have had a Stroke. She lost nearly ALL movement on her right-side. We are now being told that she has a mass of fistules in her brain. What would be the best 3 possible actions? What would the likelihood of death be? We were told that she may have had this condition for a very long time. Is this condition genetic? Or is it the result of some physical factor such as diet? Could Hypertension play a factor in this condition?

A single one is a fistula which is quot;An abnormal duct or passage resulting from injury, disease, or a congenital disorder that connects an abscess, cavity, or hollow organ to the body surface or to another hollow organ.quot;(dictionary.com). that should be able to help with explaining some of it. Hope she gets better.

What is meant by hypertension? -

Signs and syptoms of hypertension

high blood pressure Headaches

Hypertension is more commonly known as quot;high blood pressure.quot; Usual symptoms are fatigue, headaches, and dizziness.

High Blood Pressure, generally something much over 140 Systolic pressure and/or 90 diastolic pressure in an adult male when at rest. Anythind over 120/80 is considered at risk though, as prolonged hypertension, even mild, is a major threat to health and life expcectancy Causes can be genetic, diet related, metabolism related or other lifestyle related. A host of genetic/metabolic diseases also result in hypertension. Poor sleep patterns are a major cause as well, and thus shift-workers can tend to acquire it disproportionately.. Lifestyle trigger factors include smoking, excessive alcohol comsumption, poor diet and lack of aerobic exercise (often with consequent obesity, though not always). Positive changes to these factors often lead to improvement. Most hypetension goes undiagnosed for a long period because, it is asymptomatic in most people in it s early stages, and is also related to the age of the person concerned.. THIS FACTOR IS THE REASON WHY ANNUAL/BI-ANNUAL CHECKS OF BLOOD PRESSURE ARE NEEDED FOR ANYONE OVER 40 OR WITH A TRIGGER FACTOR SUCH AS DIABETES MELLITUS. When symptoms occur they include the headaches and tiredness already mentioned, but can lead to secondary symptoms that cause pain: 1. Kidney damage due to resultant renal hypertension 2. Radial chest pain, indicating heart damage/stress 3. CVS s (strokes) 4. Blood clots 5. Adrenal malfunction due to resultant adrenal hypertension It is these symptoms that are often picked up first. Hope this helps!

My problem is pulmonary hypertension. Im 46 and just found out. Ive had it for over a year now amp; my? -

Dr never told me. I found out by getting a 2nd opinion. My pulmonary BP is 41. I m SOB all the time. I will see a pulmonary Dr next week. I read some scary things about this. When does a person go on a list for a heart/lung transplant?(I also have severe tricuspid regurg. after mitral valve repair surgery) Please help!

I m not a pulmonary hypertension expert, but I did have a bi-lateral lung transplant on 08/26/04 due to Cystic Fibrosis and know that there were a number of patients at my transplant center that have/had pulmonary hypertension. It used to be that lungs were allocated based on length of wait time on the list and whether or not the patient was actually quot;sick enoughquot; at the point they reached the quot;topquot; of the list. I know it sounds weird but given that transplant is a major surgery and does require some life style changes it s really a last resort so they want to be sure patients are well enough to survive the surgery but sick enough that there are no other treatments available. Since my transplant the allocation policy has changed and viable organs go to the sickest person within the associated geographic area that is able to survive the surgery. Since lungs are an oxygen requiring organ the more time they are out of the donors body the less viable they are so they are generally limited to certain geographic areas. For example, my transplant was in St. Louis but my lungs came from somewhere in Tennessee. Lungs from New York, however, wouldn t be flown to California because of the length of time they would be un-oxygenated. Lung/heart transplants can be a little more challenging than just lung or just heart transplants and the transplant centers generally prefer to obtain all the organs from the same donor. That s not always possible, however, and it is possible that you undergo one surgery for lungs and one for the heart. Your pulmonologist will have to refer you to a transplant center for evaluation. You can expect roughly 3-5 days of tests that basically check everything about you physically, mentally, socially, and evaluate your capability to pay for the transplant, post-transplant care and the on-going (expensive) immunosuppression medications. If you get turned down by one center don t give up - each has similar guidelines but also the ability to set some of their own (such as age...and 46 should NOT be near the exclusion age). You want to find a center that has a high number of transplants and can represent good surgical, one year, three year and five year statistics for survival. Personally I recommend Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University in St. Louis, MO but you do have to consider the effect of short-term relocation if you are not within 2 hours of the hospital. You will also need a care giver to stay with you 24/7 after the transplant for usually a 90 day period after the surgery. Transplant is a lot to absorb but it is a wonderful miracle and everyone I know that has had one would do it all over again. You might want to check out 2ndwind.org which is a transplant support organization for both pre- and post-transplant patients and their families/friends. Best wishes.

Can disseminated intravascular coagulation occur as a result of systemic hypertension? -

The comment above about hypertension being man-made is wrong. The use of the word quot;placeboquot; is inappropriate. A placebo is a pill with no medicine in it, used in a scientific study in order to see the difference between when people take the medicine and when they don t - without knowing. Hypertension can be caused by several treatable conditions (such as poor blood flow to a kidney or a tumor that gives off hormones that increase blood pressure) or it can be termed quot;essential hypertensionquot; meaning that there is no identifiable reason that the blood pressure is high. High blood pressure damages organs and shortens life if not controlled. It runs in families and is more common in some ethnic groups than in others. In short, it is a very real physiologic problem that clearly has a genetic contributing cause. Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) is a disasterous complication of critical illness. In patients who have major trauma or severe life threatening infection, a complex process of system-wide inflammation can occur which compromises or destroys the function of multiple organ systems. This is called multiple system organ failure and is frequently fatal. One of the associated phenomena that can happen during this type of severe situation is DIC. In DIC, microscopic clots begin to form within the blood stream, often in tiny blood vessels. The process happens throughout the body which is why it is termed quot;disseminatedquot; as opposed to localized. This process rapidly depletes the clotting factors in the blood and uses up platelets which are tiny cells critical for clot formation. The result of this depletion of clotting supplies is that the patient develops bleeding problems. DIC is not a result of hypertension. Typically it occurs in patients who are critically ill (in the ICU, on a ventilator, hanging on to life by a thread) or who are rapidly becoming critically ill. Although there are numerous possible causes, they all have to do with either major injury or infection, or a related biochemical insult to the system. An example of a non-trauma, non-infectious issue that can involve DIC and hypertension involves a complex of multiple problems related to pregnancy called quot;HELLP syndromequot; (Hemolysis, Elevated Liver enzymes, Low Platelets) which can occur in the setting of quot;pre-eclampsiaquot; or quot;eclampsiaquot;. This too, however, is a process that includes critical illness and systemic inflammation, organ failures and DIC. ...Hope that helps.

DIC in sepsis is due to the bacteria. In trauma, it is the release of damaged itssue into the blood. In pregnancy, it s an accident which leaks amniotic fluid into the maternal blood stream. Hypertension causes chronic injury to vessels with wall thickening, which is a different quot;injuryquot;. Report Abuse

No,it only occurs after you had a few shots of Ronrico 151

hypertension is man made. not medical. a placebo, if you will. you cannot talk yourself into intravascular coagulation any more than you can talk yourself into forming cancer cells. its just not possible.

What are the main causes that could result in a death of a 34 weeks fetus? -

With a diabetic mother and with a high propension to suffer hypertension, what are the main problems that could lead to fetus death and how this could be avoided??

the baby could become Detached from the umbilical cord

Placental abruption is one possibility. That is when the placenta separates from the uterus and the baby can t get enough oxygen to survive. Congenital anomalies can also lead to intrauterine demise. The stillborn child should be autopsied to provide answers to the questions you are asking.

How does hypertension develop? -

please i need it quick

There are two types of high blood pressure or HYPERTENSION.. Primary (essential) hypertension - In 90 to 95 percent of high blood pressure cases in adults, there s no identifiable cause. This type of high blood pressure, called essential hypertension or primary hypertension, tends to develop gradually over many years. Secondary hypertension - The other 5 to 10 percent of high blood pressure cases are caused by an underlying condition. This type of high blood pressure, called secondary hypertension, tends to appear suddenly and cause higher blood pressure than does primary hypertension. Various conditions and medications can lead to secondary hypertension, including: -Kidney abnormalities -Tumors of the adrenal gland -Certain congenital heart defects -Certain medications, such as birth control pills, cold remedies, decongestants, over-the-counter pain relievers and some prescription drugs -Illegal drugs, such as cocaine and amphetamines - High blood pressure or Hypertension has many risk factors. Some you can t control. High blood pressure risk factors include: -Age -Family History -Being overweight or obese. -Not being physically active. -Using tobacco. -Too much salt (sodium) in your diet. -Too little potassium in your diet. -Too little vitamin D in your diet. -Drinking too much alcohol. -Stress. -Certain chronic conditions which also may increase your risk of high blood pressure, including high cholesterol, diabetes, kidney disease and sleep apnea. -

Hypertension and heart disease are also believed to be trigg by stress. Before you can look at what you can do to manage your stress, the first order of business is understanding what, exactly, stress is. Generally, stress is defined as a negative emotional experience associated with biological changes that allow you to adapt to it. In response to stress, your adrenal glands pump out stress hormones that speed up your body - your heart rate increases and you blood sugar levels increase so that glucose can be diverted to your muscles in case you have to run. This is knoen as the fight-or-flight response.

Stress, unreleased emotions such as anger and frustration that can make one s blood pressure go up, eating too much salt, not enough water

Is there a birth control pill that doesnt have weight gain as a side effect? -

Hi, I d be interested in getting advise on which birth control pill to take. I m 46 and am concerned about weight gain as a side effect. Maybe I should also mention that I have hypertension which is controlled by medication. Of course I ll be seeking my doctors advise but I d love to hear about other womens experiences and recommendations. Thanks!

Honestly, birth control doesn t affect your weight that much, people just assume it does. Mostly it is just waterweight. If you keep healthy habits, you ll be fine. Also, I would definitely check with your doctor regarding the hypertension. BC pills can have blood related side affects such as clots, but I m not sure if that will relate to hypertension or not. If you definitely don t want to to have any (more) kids, you may be better suited to an long term implant.

I m not sure if there are many birth control pills that don t list weight gain as a side effect. Birth control pills can alter your water metabolism. Both the estrogen and progestin in the pills can cause fluid retention, a temporary and usually cyclic effect that often begins in the first month as a result of an increase in sodium. The estrogen in the pill can cause weight gain due to increased breast, hip, or thigh tissue, usually after several months on the pill. This causes swollen ankles, breast tenderness, discomfort with contact lenses, or a weight gain of up to five pounds. Reducing your salt intake moderately can help control this type of water retention. Some progestin-dominant pills can cause appetite increase and permanent weight gain. Pill-related depression may also lead to increased appetite and weight gain. There are hundreds of reasons why women gain weight that are not pill-related. Talk with your health care provider about the extra weight you ve gained, and, together, you may be able to find the cause. If your weight gain is determined to be pill-related, your provider can change your prescription to minimize any weight gain. Remember that exercise, especially weight training, can cause some weight gain in the form of increased muscle mass.

I am on Alesse which is guaranteed no weight gain, and I am sure there are other ones as well. Talk to your doctor -- but Alesse is the one that I know for sure about. :)

My husband has high blood pressure, how can he lower it naturally? -

We went to give blood today and my hubby couldn t because his blood pressure was 144/102. His grandfather died at 48 years old due to hypertension so this is a realy concerning. We don t have health insurance because he works as a contractor so we can t afford any medication. What can he do to lower it naturally? Thank you!

both my parents came from families with hypertension background. 3 of my grandparents died of stroke. i ve been monitoring my blood pressure very closely, and trying my best to lead a healthy lifestyle. my blood pressure is maintained consistently at around 106/64. this is to tell you that nothing is impossible, it can be achieved! here are my tips to reduce or keep the blood pressure low. 1) Reduce salt -intake, cut down on gravy, preserved food, sauces anything that has salt, since salt will retain water in the blood vessel which directly increase the pressure. 2) Eat food that are rich in potassium. it helps to remove sodium and water which will directly lower the blood pressure. papaya and banana are good sources of potassium. 3) reduce intake on food that are high in saturated fats, cut it down to minimal. it would be better to set say 3 days a week to be vegetarian (better still if one can go full vegetarian). 4) watch out for high cholesterol food. it will thicken the wall of the blood vessels causes the blood pressure to increase. eat more food rich in good cholesterol (HDL), it helps to clear the fat accumulated in the blood vessels. 5) exercising regularly is good. but the intensity is important too. if he doesn t mind vigorous exercise, then he should plan a weight loss training program like running 20 miles a week. every 2 pounds lost in weight will reduce the blood pressure by 1. 6) relaxation is important for hypertension. don t get over stress, don t get too anxious. there are many activities help people to relax their body and mind. eg. listening to music, taiji, yoga etc. fighting high blood pressure is a long process. don t worry too much, else it will only worsen the situation.

diet and exercise of course, and you can afford medication, I take Atenonol, and Lisinopril for my high blood pressure, both are available through walmarts $4 prescripton program for a 30 day supply, just pay a dr to write to a script for a generic med, most are available for $4 at walmart.

Go to www.institutedc.org You will receive a 35 page booklet from the government, with all medications and the pharmaceutical companies that make the drugs. Scroll down to the medication your husband is on. ( If he does not have a doctor, go to a free clinic to see one) there is a telephone number under the name of the medication, call this number and they will send you an application for free or low cost medication. Take the application to your doctor to sign, and turn it in, to get free or low cost meds. Good Luck

Perhaps he can t afford NOT to take the medication.

don t feel bad, they are a lot of things he can do to control his blood pressure, but I think it is not a bad idea that he double ck it often at like in the drug store to see what s his bp over the time. just to keep track. here are some tips you can do on the medlineplus.gov. a great website. blood pressure long term can result in stroke so if he really can t control by diet, eating healthier (less less salt, and less less bad fat, limited the junk foods, frieds foods) and exercise. you guys should go pay one of visit to the dr and obtain a hypertension medicine. ck out the clinic around you for cheaper rate or some free clinic for ppl can t afford. you don t know if you can afford or not until you ck, but of course, it is better to control by diet, but I don t know if it will come down that that fast. so beaware of that. good luck. hope I was helpful

First I would really recommend you to go to doctor and get a treatment plan first because there are many things you don t know about a disease. You and your doctor can work out on how to reduce the hypertension. Some medications are not expensive and yet they re essential. So if you cannot afford the expensive ones, there are always options there for you. Some non-pharmacological therapy would be exercise (cardio type, not weight lifting) and reduce sodium intake. But again, I really recommend you to check it with your doctor first.

Hi Sarah There are lots of simple things that your husband can do - you ve been given lots of good advice among the answers above. Take a look at this site for many more tips http://www.bloodpressurehigh.com

It is important to take steps to keep your blood pressure under control. Hi, I had a high blood pressure too but now I m much better without any medications. I m using the product Health Wizard from Advanced Wellness Solutions. It is a PC program + device. So Health Wizard s Stress Sweeper trains people to breathe in a special pattern controlled by a device attached to your earlobe. When you breathe the way the program shows you the organism somehow calms down and blood pressure normalizes. And if you use the program regularily it ll help to normalize the blood pressure naturally! As far as I get that the idea of that is that people with high blood pressure often breathe somehow messy - too often or too high sometimes so that the organism gets crazy :) And their breath pattern helps the organism to get back to normal. And once you remembered the breathing pattern you don t need a product anymore - just breathe that way 15-30 mins a day each evening and you should be OK. At least you can buy the product, remember the breathing pattern and return it back in 30 days your money back. I know about the Health Wizard because of my friend. He bought it several months ago and used it for fun (it shows your biological age, bio energy, fitness level etc). But after some time the product said him that based on the statistical analysis of his results something is wrong with his organism and advised to see a doctor. He went to clinic and they found out that it was a cancer on the earliest stage! So it took docs around 2 weeks to remove the cancer completely! Now he s crazy about Health Wizard and told all his friends about it. So going back to blood pressure I m personally using the Stress Sweeper (it s the Health Wizard s mode) just for 2 months and my blood pressure is muuuuch better. On this week I had high blood pressure just once! Hopefully that may help you.

Stop killing him with salty meals. No more cold cuts either. He needs to take a beta blocker as well.

Hi Sarah Here are some ideas on how to heal the issue without drugs. Cause: High Blood Pressure: There is a thickening of the blood from catarrhal and excess glutinous and fibrinous matters loading the circulatory system. Generally there is a clogging of the bowel with putrid body waste, making it necessary to cleanse the excretory systems in order to purify the blood. Low blood and high blood pressure are both due to malfunction of the circulatory system. High blood pressure in many cases works just like low blood pressure. Cholesterol must be eliminated from the system in order to get the blood flowing more freely. The condition is brought about by improper diet, insufficient rest and exercise and a lack of vitality within the system. Herbal Aids: 1. High Blood Pressure: With high blood pressure, cholesterol and mucus form a sludge within the body. Avoid the mucus-forming foods and take herbs that act as a solvent by liquefying impurities such as cayenne, garlic or sassafras. Take cayenne, working up to a teaspoon three times a day. This increases the power of the heart and corrects the circulation problems. Garlic in copious amounts will bring down high blood pressure. Pure tomato juice is very good as a nutritional and a medicinal herb. Wheat germ oil is excellent for feeding the heart and helps cut the cholesterol and smoothens its removal from the area. Avoid the use of liquor and tobacco, do not keep late hours, and avoid over-tiredness and worry. There is an intricate inter-relationship between ones living habits and his body condition. 2. Low Blood Pressure: More oxygen is needed to correct this condition. Garlic is a good oxygen carrier. One of the greatest aids for low or high blood pressure because of oxygen starvation is deep breathing, which serves as a catalyst and helps the herbs react more rapidly. An immediate increase in circulation may be obtained by the use of cayenne and non mucus-forming foods. Grape juice as well as other juices rebuild and give endurance to the system. 3. Vitamin K: The blood clotting properties of Vitamin K, it has been found effective in preventing and curing high blood pressure in test animals, and may turn out to be important for the same use in humans. It is important that in the plant kingdom, only Alfalfa contains a significant amount of Vitamin K; most plants are quite deficient in the vitamin. 4. Kelp: It is an arterial cleansing agent and gives tone to the walls of the blood vessels. It is helpful in some cases of arterial tension (high blood pressure). Practitioners believe that it helps to remove deposits from the walls of the arteries and restore their elasticity, thereby lengthening life. Sufferers from low blood pressure can also have this condition normalized with the use of Kelp. 5. Hawthorn Berries: A celebrated cardiac tonic for many centuries. Under conditions of stress, the heart often quot;works overtime.quot; Hawthorn berries can help in treatment of high or low blood pressure, tachycardia, and arrhythmia. It is also anti-spasmodic, sedative, and soothing to nerves, especially in nervous insomnia. 6. Garlic: Many people have been helped in ridding the body of worms by inserting a peeled button of garlic as high as possible into the rectum. Do this just before retiring at night and it will come out with the first bowel movement in the morning. (This is also a fine aid in adjusting high blood pressure and low blood pressure). 7. Water: It is very beneficial to drink a gallon of quot;steam distilled waterquot; each day. This will aid to cut down the hardening of the arteries, adjust high and low blood pressure, and retard body dehydration. The amount of water depends on the weight of the individual. Use one ounce of quot;steam distilled waterquot; to each pound of body weight. i.e. a one hundred and thirty pound individual should drink a gallon of the water (132 oz.) or a twenty pound child, twenty ounces of the water. 8. Juices for High Blood Pressure: Celery-garlic-parsley, celery, dandelion, grapefruit. 9. Juices for Low Blood Pressure: Beet, grape, pomegranate. 10. Vegetables for Blood Pressure: The green bell-shaped pepper is especially good for ... high blood pressure and acidosis. The Sweet Potato used... for problems of low blood pressure and poor circulation. Peaches are considered valuable in cases of ...high blood pressure Pineapple is considered good for... high blood pressure. Strawberry is recommended for ... high blood pressure. Ample consumption of tomatoes is considered to improve ... high blood pressure. 11. Pecans: These have been used where there is a problem with low blood pressure...Pinon nuts have saved the life of many an Indian baby when made into a nut soup and used as milk for the baby when the mother had no milk. The nut is considered to be effective where there are problems with the lungs such as tuberculosis, impotence, paralysis, low blood pressure, and emaciation. The Pinon nut is one of the best sources of protein in the nut family. Best of health to you

Best and fastest way to lower blood pressure? -

im 28 and im 180 over 95 im in type 1 hypertension....what can i do to lower this big time? im working out, but is there something i can take or something?

180/95 pressure should be under a doctor s care and will probably require medication. Things to do without medication: Don t smoke Exercise Lose weight if needed Eat no salt and low salt foods (avoid bacon, lunch meats, hot dogs, can soups, salad dressings ...) Eat more foods containing potassium (known to help lower bp) A quick way to bring it down when you think it is up is to do deep breathing. Inhale through your nose as deep as you can and exhale slowing out of your mouth. Do this several times in a row and throughout the day when you think about it. This technique can actually bring your numbers down 20 points right then. If you have a recliner, kick back and relax. Laying down will lower your pressure as well. Do monitor your bp as you get older. When your pressure is up that high the blood is really racing through your arteries. It is actually slamming against your artery walls which can weaken them. Combine that with unhealthy eating and plaque can actually stick in those weak places and after a while blockage could start forming. Wishing you a long, healthy life!

Do you run? Getting your heart rate up for 30-40 minutes a day will increase cardiovascular health. Try it out I guarantee that you will see results within a few weeks.

i do have a few ideas but with a serious condition like yours i would not advise to do any sugestions from here. you need to talk to a professional xoxo

relax. try meditation and do some yoga. try cutting down the amount of salt in your diet aswell. try natural methods before getting on medication though. Don t get medication advice from here though only relaxation methods.

Does pressure/stress from family members cause hypertension?or is it solely contributed by abusing our heath? -

i m 21.....i find myself under a lot stess and pressure...my parents are always trying to correct me (even for something really small)..always judging me...trying to find mistakes...always pushing me into something...i ve almost lost my self esteem...i m always nervous around them?....ever since i was diagnosed(a yr back)...its only got worse...i know i m extreamely yough to hav been diagnosed with this condition...i m also over weight....but i want to know if social/domestic problems can cause hypertension...?im now under medication..

Believe me, stress can cause your blood pressure to skyrocket. My mother has it, and even though she s on medication, as soon as she is put under stress, her blood pressure goes through the roof. Mine is usually normal, but I still have higher readings when the stress gets to me. When I go to the doctor s office and I m really worried about something, it can be 130/100, but it s normally about 110/70. You need to try talking to a counselor to help build up your self-esteem. Also, exercise will help lower it, especially ones like yoga. Finally, confront your parents. I know what you re going through--I m 44 and my parents have always been hypercritical of everything I do, even now (they turned their backs on me when I joyfully told them I was pregnant, even though I d been married for 3 years at the time and trying for over a year!). As hard as it is to face up to them, they have to know what they re doing to your health when they treat you the way they do.

Absolutely! When your BP goes up, you need to try to relax, lock yourself up in your room and just sit there and breathe slowly for a couple of minutes. You will see a drop in your BP. And don t let anyone put you down, take care of yourself, things will either get better or you will be move on, so don t bring yourself down. Your parents may also be under stress, they are probably worried about you. Maybe you should try to talk to them and tell them that if they want you to be better somehow, they need to let you be. Do you still live with them? Do you go to school? Do you work? What can you do to improve the situation? think about it

MRI for hypertension? -

Hey all, im going in for an MRI at the end of next week. Now, when I was at the Kidney Disease and Hypertension doctor today, I felt confident in what he said, thinking I knew the true meaning of MRI. But evidently I was wrong. Basically Im on my 6th new BP medicine, none are working, and kidneys came back pretty much sound through the ultrasound and the blood/urine tests. So he has ruled that out. My bp averages (wore the 24hrmonitors already) around 180 s/110 s, even on the different medicines. Basically he said he was going to give me an MRI to check me out, but isn t that just checking out muscles? What would this have to do in finding the cause for the BP? I keep going for all these tests, but so far none have found my BP answers yet, and I feel its really taking a toll on my leaking heart valves, and the chest pains keep getting worse weekly. But, my cardiologist wont give me a stress test until my BP lowers a bit for my own saftey.

There are many things that can parade as primary hypertension but are really a secondary source that can explain why your Bp may not respond to conventional meds. Renovascular hypertension Primary aldosteronism Pheochromocytoma Hypothyroidism Hyperthyroidism Hyperparathyroidism Depending on what your doc is scanning, he may be looking for some or all of these things to explain your BP. Other factors can be obesity, sleep apnea, alcohol intake, smoking, etc. A leaky heart valve is a whole other issue-- which valve? Some heart/valve issues can effect BP, too. Good luck, read some medical journals, you are your own best advocate! Chest pain getting worse should be evaluated, if you can t tolerate a stress test then they should cath (cardiac catheterization) you (if they haven t already).

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) produces detailed images of the heart and the blood vessels, images of blood flow. Also takes detailed images of the brain and spinal cord. What bp meds were you taking? I ve been on the same Bp medicine for 8yrs. Hasn t failed me yet.

Renal MRI s will rule in or out the most common cause of severe hypertenstion in young people...ie. RENAL ARTERY STENOSIS... It s also curable.
