High cardiac output? -

I am only looking for the medical term to describe a symptom to an illness. It is the word to describe cardiac force which is too high. Palpitations is not a good word since it can describe arrythmias awareness, such as ectopic beats, tachycardia and so on. Hypertension is not a good word since this usually is for describing artrial hypertension, it does not usually give reference to cardiac contraction force. Cardiac output is no good because cardiac contraction force is one aspect of cardiac output, heart rate being the other. If you excluding the names of conditions such as angina, cardiac hypertrophy and so on; I am trying to find the medical term to only describe the symptom of elevated cardiac contraction force. Have any ideas?

There really isn t another name for it- Increased Cardiac Output is how it is referred to. Try the link below. http://www.answers.com/topic/cardiac-out...

maybe systolic dysfunction? or systolic and diastolic dysfunction. This would increase pressures. also include stroke volume.

Doctors refusing medical care because of money? -

I have 2 chronic illnesses that have to be treated continously. They are hypertension and COPD. This new dr. I have been seeing has refused me treatment or medications due to my owing him $45.00. I am so angry over this. What happens if I become severely ill or even worse because he is denying me medical care and medicine? I have every intention of paying my bill and have informed him of such. He still will not see me or give me meds until I pay him the $45.00. What would you do?

You need to find a new doctor. This guy is an @$$! There should be a clinic in your area that will help people with financial problems. Please see if you can get this taken care of right away. Also I would make a formal complaint about him.

apply for medicaid to get help with your medical treatment or go to a free clinic, your doctor can not treat everybody for nothing.

move to Canada.

What a nasty piece of work your dr must be. Would it be possible to change drs? I empathise with you and it must be such a strain on you to be held ransom by the dr. Get another dr if possible. It can make you worse worrying about your health. Good luck

Suggest medical test to detect heart problems ....? -

suggest medical test to detect heart problems ....peptic ulcer and hypertension .....

heart ,,ecg, blood urea and electrolytes ,cbc ,and echo cardiogram are enough to diagnose majority ,if more advanced need catherization ,,peptic ulcer ,there is a new breath test for helicobacter pylori ,and endoscopy ,,hypertension a simple bp measurement and if suspected secondary related hormonal anlaysis ,or renal fuction testing ,urine testing

ECG... for heart problems...

ECG, Echo and hagiography for heart problems and barium test for ulcer.Blood pressure can be tested on ordinary sphignomanometer.(BP Testing equipment)

For heart, 2D Echo, 3D Echo, 3DCCG, Angiogram, Stress Thallium, ECG etc. For stomach, go for sonography. If you go to a good ayurveda doctor who knows pulse diagnosis, he will do it for you by checking your pulse. You need not undergo all these tests.

Blood pressure question,help please? -

My husband is 65 and in pretty good health. His blood pressure has been okay but occasionally was 130/90. Last week his pressure spiked to 210/150 and we went to the hospital. They addmited him and brought the pressure down. They did a cardiac cat scan, ultras sound of the heart, several ekg and blood tests. He was discharged and put on 25mg of metratroporal. The next day he went to his regular doctor and he put him on 50 mg. and did a kidney test. His blood pressure was fine for a few days and is now l40/95. He called the doctor and he said to take more medication. Does it take a while to regulate blood pressure? We are at a loss as to what is going on. This is our first experience with hypertension. Do you think all of the tests which came out fine, are enough? Are we missing any? Also, his stomach is upset today, does the medication do this? Should he have had a cat scan of the brain? Thank you very much.

Unfortunately hypertension does tend to be a fairly normal part of aging and while serious, is typically easily treated. You stated that his BP was down to 140/95. This is considered moderately high, although not dangerous. What you may find is that it may take some time to find the right medication or combination of medications that provide the results you want with the fewest side effects. The medication he is currently taking is a beta blocker which slows the rate of the heart. Since the heart isn t working so hard all the time the BP tends to lower itself. Frequently a beta blocker isn t enough all by itself and the physician may add a diuretic or even an ace inhibitor. This is all very, very common. You are going to have to let the medication do its job, give it some time and if the one medication doesn t lower the BP enough then he, as I mentioned, will probably be given a second medication to complement the first one. As the others have stated, less stress, more exercise, less fat and sugar, losing weight, all those things help, but stick with the medications and monitor his blood pressure at least once a week once you have it stabilized.

In some people it does take a while to get blood pressure regulated. Sometimes different medications must be tried and discarded until the right one is found. If all his tests are showing nothing, I would think the Doctors would have recommended a program of walking and proper diet. If walking does not raise your husband s bp, then it is the best medicine in the world for him. If he is overweight, he should try to lose some pounds. Avoid salty and/or high fat foods. I am not familiar with that medication, but I have listed a link so you can look up the side effects of any medications he was given. Good luck.

Ihave heart dease and take my blood pressure ofter, do you use a arm band pressure monitor, if not buy one from lloyds pharmacy , they are only £10 and give an accurat blood pressure, any other type is inacurate, i am 61 and have just come out of hospital after my third angiogram, and my blood pressure was checked three times a day, any where between 113/56 to 140/ 78 is ok so do not be worried if your husbands blood pressure varies , it will over the cource of the day. But if it gets to high or to low get in touch with your doctor immediatly.

Oh boy, lots of questions! Ok, it sounds like your husband has what is termed primary hypertension-this means that they have ruled out any possible causes that can be readily fixed, and it is likely due to long term hardening of the arteries. This is a normal part of the aging process but of course can be influenced by lifestyle and diet. There are many many blood pressure medications out there. It sounds like he was started on a class of drugs called beta blockers, which are a good start. However, each person responds to medications in different ways, and he may need to try a few (or be on more than one) to keep his blood pressure in a normal range. This should of course be done under the proper medical supervision. If he is experiencing excessive stomach discomfort he should let his doc know, another drug may be as effective without as many side effects. You are doing what you are supposed to be doing. Encourage your husband to get exercise, and to eat a low fat, low salt diet. The long term effects of hypertension can be severe (especially heart failure and stroke) so he should do everything possible (lifestyle and meds) to make sure that his blood pressure stays in normal range. Good luck!

Yes, it takes approximately three weeks or more for the medication to take good effect. It sounds like his doctor is very competent and ordered the correct diagnostics. Make certain that the medication is taken everyday at the same time, as the doctor ordered. Reduce stress, follow a healthy diet, exercise and be optimistic. I believe that he is receiving good care and if you have any concerns do not hesitate to call the doctor. That s what he s there for!

My heart goes out to you and I know how scared you must be for him. When the drugstore fills prescriptions they should provide a fact sheet that will tell you the answers to side effects and how long it will take till medication takes effect. I WOULD NOT TAKE ANY CHANCES THOUGH. YOU CALL HIS DOCTOR FIRST THING IN THE MORNING AND TELL THEM ......ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS. Ask how long will it be before you hear back from them (in case you have to run to the store) If they do not call back within a few hours call again, again, again all in the same day before they close. This is your husband and you need answers. Better yet call the Doctor Now!!!!!! My husband is 70 years old. I have been through a lot with him but had it not been for my insisting doctors, nurses or whomever I was dealing with to give me answers that moment I would not have him now. Go to the search on yahoo and put in his medication and or look on the bottle and see what pharmaceutical company made the drug and pull the company up on the net and it will have a list of drugs they make and find his drug. Go to American Heart Association web site www.americanheart.org Do not let another day go by without them answering your question. Take care of you because he needs you to be strong.

Seems like since his BP spiked to 210/150 he may have some renal artery blockage, may be good idea to ask your m.d.if he considered renal arteries and kidneys when evaluating for uncontrolled hypertension. Hope this helps, good luck.

the medication will upset his stomach for a bit,he must also go on a fat free diet,no fried foods, and cut allot of junk food out.see a dietitian for help on that.take coated aspirin every day for rest of life 81mg,i had heart surgery minor,i was 49. i went off of same medication your husband is on and went to see an herbalist for help i feel allot better and never think of a cat scan.drink lots of water cheerios and apples are good to help keep pressure down

Your questions are rather technical. I can perhaps help in trying to give you some home remedies to hypertension under control. If you want to try out some home remedies you may perhaps wish to visit this website which I found very informative and useful. http://ailments.in/hypertension.html

I suggest the following 1. Buy a blood pressure machine (about $50) 2. Measure blood pressure 3-5 times a day. Write them down with date and time. Take it with you when you go to the doctor. 3. Cut down on salt 4. Do meditation 2-3 times a day (About 15 minutes each) 5. Learn to relax. Do not take anything seriously. Stress will contribute to your blood pressure. 6. The medication will take about 2-3 weeks to stabilize and give a baseline reading. 7. Blood pressure is going to be for life. So take it easy and relax. The doctor is going to add 1-2 more medications on top of this, before everything comes back to normal. 8. Good luck

Please, answer.? -

What would make me get rid of my pricking knee pain? -

I am a women born on06/11/1971.i married on the24th of may2007. gave birth to a baby boy on 25th march 2008.i had undergone a Cesarean. know my baby is 7th month.for long period i was not going to office or nor out of my house some time once in a way i would go to my inlows place.and i would continues take my baby in my lap i feel due to that i started with stiffness in my knee.previously it would occur in Rt leg later onto the Lt leg. the Rt was completely all right.than the lt again the rt and know since 2mth its both.it gives a pricking pain . i cant sit immediately, not i can stand immediately.while sitting and standing i have pain in my knee.sometimes i feel my bone at the knee is being shaking(shifting).and know i started working so i can t climb the stair nor get down.i find it difficult. and one more thing during my pregnancy i colud walk like a normal person but during this period i had increased my wt from 70to105.at present i am breast feeding my baby.what will it come to a normal condition as before.during my 8th month i was detected as hypertension pt.i have fibroid up to know.i would like to know what is the cause and give me some Solutionn. thank you.

Probably the pain is due to increase in the weight. Reduce ur weight,do knee quadriceps exercises, take nutritious food, apply any pin relieving gel locally after hot fomentation, have NSAID if the pain is more, don t take prednisolone as suggested. You will do well in course of time. If the pain continues, consult an orthopaedic surgeon.

if there is swelling also............take 1. tab. Serratiopeptidase 10 mg twice a day for 3 weeks it should give you relief otherwise 2. tab. prednisolone 2mg once daily for 3 weeks it will give some comfort

i think you should try putting an oil liniment on your knees. thse work very well but temporarily. if it is really painful, get some painkillers like ibuprofens and paracetamols.

No need to swear! Have your leg amputated, should work wonders!

Good Shoes for Bad Feet? -

I constantly have bad feet due to, I believe, bad veins which run in the family and possibly due to me having pre-hypertension. My feet start to ache (bad) if they get too warm, or if I am standing on them for a half hour or more. What are some nice shoes for men to support and comfort feet like this, I can t really go with sandals but I m sure those would help indeed. I can t see it as a weight problem as I am 26, 6ft tall 178lbs Thanks =)

Have you tried mbt s?

Mild Tricuspid regurgitation with mild pulmonary hypertention? -

I will try to ask this as best and briefly as possible. Had stress test. was normal. Had ekg said Abnormal. I asked to see cardiologist, was told didnt need to but I insisted. Had echocardiogram says. quot; Color flow Doppler studies reveals Mild Tricuspid reguegitation. Estimated Pulmonary atery systolic pressure is 38 mm/HG. CONCLUSION: Mild tricuspid regurgitatoin with mild pulmonary hypertension. This stufy other wise within normal limits. Now i read about both, and can be seriouse if left untreated. Went to pulmonologist, had chest cat scan and lung scan both say normal, Still short of breath with chest tearing pains mainly in the left breast area. No one seems to say they want to do anything about it. But my concerns is that from what i read at libray i can get clots or heart disease if not treated, or the pulmonary hypertension can killme, Anyone have any ideas. ty in advance.

Just to let you know, according to echo, almost everyone has pulmonary hypertension. Bernouli s simplified equation (the equation used in echo to determine pressure gradients) is 4Vsquared...meaning that with a 3m/s tricuspid regurgitation jet (normal), the patient would have a gradient between the RV and RA of 36mmHg. This means that the difference in pressure between the right atrium and the right ventricle is 36mmHg. The normal pressure in the RA during systole is negligible, so this would indicate that the RVESP (Right ventricular end systolic pressure) is 36mmHg. The RVESP is the same as the PASP (pulmonary artery systolic pressure). 35mmHg is right at the edge of pulmonary hypertension as far as echo standards go, however an echo estimate is not nearly as accurate as a measurement using a Swan-Ganz catheter. Since your doctor is not worried, I would not be. Your chest pains, since they are localized, are probably due to a local condition (pleuritis, intercostal muscle strain, rib injury, bruise, etc.) and your shortness of breath could be due to many things, including your current physical shape or an anxiety condition which is likely to manifest as a result of your concern about having a serious condition. I would not base your concerns off of a self diagnosis, especially since trained professionals have already told you not to worry about it. Good luck and all the best.

Did the cardiologist start you on any medications? A change in diet and lifestyle may help. I have PH at 58mm/Hg. The heart is slamming blood thru the pulmonary artery to the lungs. Transplant is the way to correct problem, sorry. I had moderate to severe regurgitation to both mitral and tricuspid valves which were repaired, via open heart surgery.

did you take the combination diet pills, fasten and the other i can t remember the name. it was called phen/fin it think. in the 80 s and 90 s. it was said to be the cause of pulmonary hypertension and mitro valve prolaps. not sure if this helped you or not.

Is it true that having sex with your partner would lower your blood pressure? -

they always quote that having sex with your partner would as what they believe lower your blood pressure and somehow lower the possibility of having hypertension??

Sex, like any other type of exercise can most definitely lower your blood pressure over time. Once your body gets in shape your heart doesn t have to work as hard...which leads to a lower BP reading.

Is it possible to lose 4 pregnacies due to PIH? -

Can pregnancy induce hypertension result in 4 miscarriages? The miscarriages always occurs before 24 weeks of pregnancy .

PIH normally causes late abortions, rather than abortions at 24 weeks. The abortions usually follow eclampsia in cases of PIH, where convulsions have set in and the BP really shoots up. In that case, it becomes dangerous for both the mother as well as her child. It is highly irregular for a thing like 4 successive abortions be attributed to PIH. Please get VDRL / FTA test done and next time you abort, get the sample of abortus checked up by a lab and they must also look for any genetic defects. Moreover, during the next pregnancy, please get you amniotic fluid analysis done for any metabolic or genetic disorder. Anxiety for losing another child may also cause some degree of raised blood pressure, which must not be labeled as PIH.

Yes, unfortunately, it can happen. I m so sorry this had to happen to you. Maybe you can ask your doctor how to deal with it before you try again.

Firstly, let me say how sorry to hear that you have experienced this. I am sorry, but I have not heard of PIH, Have you been diagnosed with it? Have you seen a specialist about it? I have had miscarriages but the cause was related to an underactive thyroid gland and thyroid antibodies. I suppose hypertension is not a good sign in any pg. and pg loss is possible but I don t want to speculate. May I suggest you put in quot;PIHquot; in a search engine and do some research on this. I am so sorry. The best answers would come from your specialist. Maybe your dr. could refer you to an Infertility specialist - one who specialises in the field of miscarriage and Infertility. Surely, there is some treatment for this condition as is there for thyroid problems(like mine) Best of luck!

Very simple question, but very important for me (paxil users)? -

I started using rexetin (same as paxil) a week ago, first two days - 10 mg, then 20 mg a day every morning. At the beginning i was experiencing adverse effects like hypertension, flu-like symptoms, insomnia, but now i don t feel them anymore. As well as i don t feel ANY KIND of positive effects. NONE. Is it still going to work for me? And how will i feel when it will kick in? Just wake up one day eat a pill, and feel unusual effects from it? Or is it going to start gradually?

Your doctor has probably already warned you that it takes a couple of weeks to start feeling the positive effects of any anti-depressant. Unfortunately, the side effects do start right away. The good news is that the side effects don t last very long (it sounds like you re already getting over them). But yes, the positive is still on its way. It won t happen overnight really. Actually, for me, I just realized one day that I hadn t been feeling so miserable for a few days - it was that subtle! Then I actually started getting happier over the next few days. Those I have talked to that didn t get much benefit from their anti-depressant still got SOME benefit, so it s next to impossible that you won t be feeling at least a little bit better soon. But Paxil wouldn t be so widely used if it wasn t highly effective, so take heart in that. Different people take different amounts of time. Hang in there, it s TOTALLY worth it.

Symptoms using tranquilizers? -

difference between tranquilizers and antidepressants used for hypertension

Huh? They don t prescribe either of those medications for hypertension.

Symptoms using tranquilizers??? I don t understand your question. Can you add clarification, please?

A sedative is a substance that depresses the central nervous system (CNS), resulting in calmness, relaxation, reduction of anxiety, sleepiness, slowed breathing, slurred speech, staggering gait, poor judgment, and slow, uncertain reflexes. Sedatives may be referred to as tranquilizers, depressants, anxiolytics, soporifics, sleeping pills, downers, or sedative-hypnotics. At high doses or when they are abused, many of these drugs can cause unconsciousness and death. An antidepressant is a medication designed to treat or alleviate the symptoms of clinical depression. Some antidepressants, notably the tricyclics, are commonly used off-label in the treatment of neuropathic pain, whether or not the patient is depressed. Smaller doses are generally used for this purpose, and they often take effect more quickly. Many antidepressants also are used for the treatment of anxiety disorders, and tricyclic antidepressants are used in the treatment of chronic pain disorders such as chronic functional abdominal pain (CFAP), myofascial pain syndrome, and post-herpetic neuralgia.

I am 8 weeks postpartum and still having extreme overall weakness.? -

I had my baby 8 weeks ago and developed post partum complications. i had pnemonia, hypertension and about a week later acute renal failure. i delivered by c-section. finally the pnemonia has resolved, my blood pressure is back to normal and my kidneys seem to be ok. i cant under stand why i feel so extremely weak still. and it s worse once i wake up out of bed or stand up from sitting down. i took muliple blood test and chest x-rays and everthing seems to come back ok. has this happened to anyone. please shed some light on the situation. i am so scared that i will never feel back to normal.

You ve been through a lot in your last 8 weeks PLUS tending to a newborn! It s no wonder you re exhausted. From all that you ve been through what you re describing is normal considering all of the complications. The feeling weak when you re getting up out of bed or from standing - that is probably orthostatic hypotension. Basically your blood pressure drops when you change positions - usually from laying to sitting and sitting to standing. Make sure you re taking in PLENTY of fluids. Being dehydrated can make this worse. Continue to take a multivitamin to keep your minerals (especially iron) up. Take in at least 1000mg of vitamin C a day and get some zinc in as well. Good luck with the new baby!

I think you are just exhausted. a new baby is hard on you even if you dont have complications. Sounds like you have really had a hard time. Please just rest a while longer and keep asking for help. (I hope that you have some one to help you.) take your vitamins and get pleanty to eat.

Are you anemic? Maybe you have low iron. All you have to do is take a pill and get your count back up

Is high blood pressure common within young people, teenagers in particular (Repost)? -

Throughout my life (or as long as I can remember) I have had chest pains. The pain varies, sometimes on my left and other times on the right side. It feels like a sharp pain and lasts for a couple of seconds to a minute. The pain occurs quite often. I have a family history of hypertension, and so I know that is a big factor. Although it s extremely unhealthy, I love salt, I don t know what I would do without it. I know I have to reduce my salt intake to maintain a pleasant health. Quite honestly, I eat fast foods quite often, but only because there are many fast food restaurants near my school area and I just hate packing lunch in general. I measured my blood pressure a couple of months ago and it was 110/71 (give or take some). The only symptom of hypertension that I have is sharp chest pain. I m 16, 5 9 and weigh 140, which is healthy for my height. I know I should consult a doctor, but what do you think could be the cause? Your help is really appreciated.

High blood pressure is uncommon in young people. You have normal pressure and weight. This is a plus. However your family history, diet and penchant for salt eventually will lead to high blood pressure. Reduce your salt intake and improove your diet to reduce your risk for high blood pressure.

It s possible. I have high blood pressure and I had it back when I was like 15, 16 years old. I m 24 now and take medication for it. But I never really had chest pains. So it would be wise to ask your doctor. But too much fast food is not good for you, subways one thing, but the burger joints can be a bad thing if you eat too much from them. Very high on salt.

no its not common, you should go to ur doctor, more than likely they will have u get a kidney scan, have labwork done then refer you to the cardiologist to have further tests done. Good luck.

not all chest pains are heart pains. go to a cardiologist and get checked out, and get reliable information before you go ahead with any other plans.

Blood pressure question? -

My blood pressure is always all over the place. I just took it and it was 111/90 with a pulse of 118. I ve just been sitting around, watching tv. My pulse is almost always high so while I m curious about why, I m used to it (it s ran high my whole life). Last week it was 167/110 with a pulse of 120. Again, I hadn t been doing anything stressful. I use ReliOn and on it has colored indicators to the side- Green for normal, Yellow for pre-hypertension, and the stages of Red for High Blood Pressure. 111/90 shows up as the bottom-most line of red (not so high), while the last showed up as the highest line of red. Why is 111/90 considered high? What makes the lower number higher or lower and is it just as bad if the lower number is high? As an aside question, can the lower number ever be higher than the first? Can the two meet? Just curious about that part... I don t usually take medicine for my blood pressure. I ve never seen anyone about it. I take propanalol if I get the shakes (anxiety related) or if I feel pressure in my ears (blood pressure related). Is this something I should be more worried about? I m 34 years old, 5 5quot; and about 130 pounds. I m currently smoking about 2 packs of cigarettes a day. Last April 28 I hadn t had a smoke for 8 years and since I picked the habit back up I ve quit for as long as a month but also for a week or two several times. I m trying to quit again (for good). But it seems to have had little effect on my blood pressure. It s been up and down and all over the place for years. There s a history of high blood pressure in my family. Thanks for any answers or insights.

I didn t know you smoked! Learn to love yourself and stop doing that, permanently. My wife has high blood pressure as well but only her systolic is high and it is all over the place anywhere from 130 to 170 or more. so far she takes no medication for it. She has tried many natural things but I won t mention what exactly except that we just ordered a product that sounds promising which you can find on eBay. It s called Mukta Vati and the testimonials including many which are on independent sites such as curezone.com. google it and see what you think. It is sold by some vendors with a money back guarantee if it doesn t work for you. That said you should [as anyone should] try to live a healthy lifestyle. Eat less animal products, avoid refined foods, eat mostly plant based foods amp; 50% raw if possible. And never mind avoiding salt; use sea salt. Drink plenty of water and get sufficient exercise. And start reading health related books. There are many suggestions for controlling high blood pressure. Some work for some people and many don t. the same is true of drugs but they have side effects, some of which are serious in themselves [Whatever happened to quot;First do no harmquot;?] There are many things that cause high blood pressure and sometimes the cause is simply unknown which can partly explain why what works for one person may not work for the next person.

If a JW sees someone drowning they are obligated to save them if able to even if the person is disfellowshipped. If a disfellowshiped person s house was on fire, a JW would similarly save the dissfellowshiped person if able to. HBP can be life-threatening which is why I felt I should try to help. Report Abuse

wow Report Abuse

for 111/90 the 111 isnt high ... the 90 is a LITTLE high. the fact that you smoke doesnt help you should tell ur dr. everything youve said here.. also taking propanalol once in a while isnt recommended.. when taking a drug like that you should be taking it every day. but seriously you should talk to your doctor

Stop Smoking!! That 111/90 - not bad on the top number, you want the bottom number to be about 75. Try taking your blood pressure in the morning then in the afternoon and record each one. You should run a pattern - low in morning, high in afternoon or vice versa. Blood pressure problems are hereditary. Keep a check on it and make a Dr appointment. Take your findings to the Doc and get a professional opinion.

Why are you checking your BP so much? Has your doctor put you on antihypertensives? Is your doctor concerned?? 111/90 is not considered high! I think you are stressing and this causes it to fluctuate, and so does 2 packs a cigarettes per day! You seem worried about your BP but not worried about continuing to smoke 2 packs per day!! My advice is: try and quit the habit again as you did very well before, stop stressing about you BP, leave it to the health professionals and stop checking it yourself! Lastly, THROW OUT THE BP MACHINE!!! I m not being mean to you, it s just some things need to be left up to the health professionals for a reason - because we know whats going on and why things are what they are, and people that monitor themselves at home like this end up stressing over things that might not need stressing over.

your blood pressure is not as crazy as your pulse! WOW a normal pulse is 120/80, a little up or down is fine. If the two numbers are far apart (160/60) that is concerning. Your top # (systolic) is fine, your bottom # (diastolic) is also fine for someone with blood pressure issues. You need to see your nurse or doctor to explain all your medications to you and to explain exactly what different blood pressure readings/ pulse counts mean to you and when it is safe to take your med s. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. propanalol is a blood pressure med and you should not take it if your blood pressure is ever low, regardless if you are shaky - you also can not stop taking this med cold-turkey. See your doctor or find a new one.

Hey, I agree with Monika here. Especially since you ve got anxiety as well, you are making yourself worse by trying to self-diagnose and checking your own BP. This is not a good idea, please get your nurse or doctor to do the checking and for gods sake - throw the machine away!! Hope you feel better real soon. Also Propanalol is a drug that needs to be taken regularly and daily! Not willy-nilly.

Propanalol is a blood pressure medication (it s a beta blocker) and this could be the cause of your numbers being all over the place. You should really speak to your doctor about your blood pressure readings. Sometimes the cuff that you are using, the time of day you are testing, whether you just came in for a smoke, whether you want to go out for one right then, all these factors can influence a blood pressure reading. Your doctor will not diagnose you after only one reading, he/she will do up to 3 readings at different times and make a diagnosis based on that. Tell him/her that you are on propanalol!!

I also use beta-blockers but they are to control my heart rate. You have to take the medication as prescribed, or you ll be all over the place. If you ve suffered from a rapid heart rate for a long time I would suggest you go and see a cardiologist, with your anxiety fast heart rate and blood pressure you could be looking at a heart problem. I am not trying to scare you but I had the same signs for years now faced with heart problems,it would be in your best interest.

Is high blood pressure common within young people, teenagers in particular?

Hypertension is rare in young people. I know it sounds weird, but the chest pain could very easily be gas. Who knows, maybe all the fast food is making you gassy. Try cutting back on it and see how you feel. Since you have a family history of hypertension, you should start weaning yourself off of salt in food now so it won t be so hard for you later in life. (Fast food is VERY high in sodium.) Oh yeah, and do see a doctor just to be safe.

you could be having small heart attacks from all the fast food.. but if the chest pain only happens after eating food you dont really have to much to worry about. your blood pressure is normal for your age and eating fast food alot.

your blood pressure isnt too bad.... before i lost a lot of weight, my blood pressure was about 140/85 and thats ridiculous! ....go to a doctor and when you go to mickey d s next time order a yogurt parfait instead!

Some one plz plz solve my problem..........????????????? -

i m 22yrs male.i was got selected in Lamp;T as PGET.dat is it is dual programme in which Lamp;T will sponsor us for a mtech degree and in trun they will sign us for a bond of 3yrs. Look go see your MD and get on Meds Man if the meds your takeing not working then he get you new meds the way to tell if the meds are working is to have your b/p taken for a week 2 to 3 times a day at diffrent times in the day you should be runing B/p like 100/60 to 130/ 80 but if your are runing b/p over 120/90 at 9am and then b/p 130/90 at 3 pm then you need to see the Doc again is all

I have recently begun to experience numbness in my hands. Frequently this is while I sleep (I tend to sleep with a hand tucked under my head). Of course the alleviation to this is to remove the hand and extend my arm to get the blood flowing back to it. Lately though, my left hand (most noticeably) gets numb during the day. I do not have any diabetic symptoms, I do smoke and have gained a few pounds. Other than that (!) I do not believe I suffer from hypertension (my blood pressure is ideal). Any other thoughts on why my left hand goes numb from time to time? And it is localized to the exterior left side and includes my little, ring and middle fingers.

If there is any pressure on your hands while you sleep such as your head over them or under your body, they will feel numb. You have to do exercise with your fingers to get the blood flowing, it is all circulation. Peace out

It sounds like carpal tunnel, but you might have your doctor check you for hypothyroidism, The blood tests would be for T-3, T-4, and TSH. Your symptoms sound very similar to my own, and I was initially diagnosed with carpal tunnel. The pain in my hands was so severe it would wake me up. Once I was diagnosed and began treatment for hypothyroidism, those symptoms just vanished. I m not saying in your case this is definitely what it is, but it s worth a bloodtest to rule it out.

Have you ever operated power tools or machinery that vibrates for long periods of time through your working life? If so it could be a result of Hand Arm Vibration (HAVS) also know as white finger and should be looked at by your doctor. This a major issue curently in the U.K and is commonly experienced by people in the construction and engineering industry. However cleaners operating floor buffers have been known to experience the symptoms. Early inicators include:- - Tingling and numbness in the fingers (which can cause sleep disturbance). - Not being able to feel things with your fingers. - Loss of strength in your hands (you may be less able to pick up or hold heavy objects). - In the cold and wet, the tips of your fingers going white then red and being painful on recovery (vibration white finger). If you continue to use high-vibration tools these symptoms will probably get worse, for example: - The numbness in your hands could become permanent and you won’t be able to feel things at all; - You will have difficulty picking up small objects such as screws or nails; - The vibration white finger could happen more frequently and affect more of your fingers Try looking at www.hse.gov.uk/vibration/hav/ for info on HAVS. If it is work related then a change in career may have to be an option along with a compensation tribunal...

Dont worry about ur hands getting numb, its completely normal, but if its really disturbing, try to sleep on the left side(if u do on the right now) with the left hand under ur head, for best results sleep on ur back. PS: don t ever sleep on ur belly its very bad for health. Hope i helped.

Heart problems perhaps? Maybe anxiety? I have an anxiety panic disorder and I get numbness from my hands when I go through one of my episodes.

you may have a cubital tunnel syndrome, entrapment of the nerve at the elbow, or in addition carpal tunnel syndrome, a neurologist can help

when i sleep on top of my hands, they go numb. sometimes the whole arm. i dont know about the numbness during the day though.

You have carpal tunnel syndrome. try a wrist brace at night. or you could see a doc for cortisone shots. Last resort is surgery.

hmm I have no idea...sorry :S Id definatley go see a doctor about it or talk to a pharmacist...do you play video games a lot or use your hands a lot? I d ask a professional..good luck!

see a doc, dont sleep with your head on your hands , also you may be anemic, best guess SEE THE DOC plz

It s not blood flow all by itself; the real problem is that you re pressing on a nerve bundle; quot;circulationquot; decreases when the pressure is removed. During the day you can get the same deal if your forearm muscles tense up because of stress or sitting in a bad position. The next time, experiment by pressing places on your forearm, and a friend can give you a vigorous massage (until it hurts, actually). A professional and ethical massage practitioner might seem expensive, but they ll find the right quot;trigger point.quot; You can then do it yourself, but a massage tuneup every 2 or 3 weeks will help you sleep better and work better.

Do all pulmonary fibrosis patients need high sat numbers? -

My mother in law has pulmonary fibrosis, heart failure, pulmonary hypertension to name a few of her problems. She is on 6 liters of oxygen at home and I know this is a lot oxygen to be on at home. She has been in and out of the hospital, but the last time she was in they took a lot of fluid off of her lungs. The doctor had her down to 3 liters, but on the last night they had to move her back to 5 liters. Before she left hospital the doctor said to just put her back on 6 liters at home, but she was on 5 liters before she left the hospital. Anyway, her oxygen numbers read about 98 all the time which you would think would be good, but she stays real sleepy and does not seem to think as clearly as she once did. At times she can not keep her eyes open and she wears a c-pap at night and sometimes her husband will wake up and she will not even have the mask on. He is blind, so he is a nervous wreck a lot of the time. Something just not seem to be right.

Yes, 98 is very good. It does not explain why she is so tired and is not thinking clearly. There might be something else going on -- not getting enough oxygen at night when she takes off the mask, not getting enough sleep, or some other medical problem. It would be best for her to go back to the doctor to get checked out. I hope the doctor can find out what is going on, and I hope she feels better soon.

Oxygen sat don t tell the whole story. All it can tell you is the percent of red blood cells carrying O2. Not the number of blood cells in the systems. You need to have a complete blood count or CBC to make sure that she has the right number of box cars to carry the oxygen around the body. Also, due to her medical condition she may have developed CO2 retention. This is when a person is used to having such a high CO2 count that when they have higher O2 levels they become lethargic like they are on medication for relaxation. As to her not wearing her CPAP mask I can only recommend that your mom s husband check her when he wakes during the night to see if she is wearing it and have her put it on again if not. Many patients accidentally remove their mask during sleep. It is sad to day that with the list that you have given the prognosis is usually quite poor and quality of life generally degrades rapidly. Prayers for you and your family. May GOD be with you.

98 is actually a very high SAT. I m a medical sales rep who deals with o2 and with CPAPS. I have a nurse on staff who performs pulse oximerty and 100 is thr highest you can get. Medicare/Caid will only pay for o2 if the pt is below 88, so 98 is great! Better than some healthy ppl. As for being tired, that is a good indication of o2 loss. She needs to be wearing a more secure CPAP mask strap so it won t slip off. If she is intentionally taking it off, she needs to talk to a doc who can explain to her how important it is for her to wear it and consequences of not. Hope this helps. I m no doctor!

What is Hypertension?? -

hi, what is hypertension and does it cause any problems in the body? thanks, ~Hanifaissweet~

Hypertension is high blood pressure and yes, it is serious and can, over a long period of time, cause problems with your heart, kidneys, lungs, etc.

Yes hypertension is the medical name for high blood pressure, and yes, it can cause serious health problems. My husband suffered a severe haemorrhagic stroke last year because his, unknown at the time, high blood pressure, burst a weak artery in his brain. He has fortunately made a good recovery, though he is far from quot;normalquot;...he has had a lucky escape as it could have been a lot worse, he could have been severely brain damaged or paralysed in some way. (many people are born with weakened arteries in their brain area and know nothing of it until something like that happens) Hypertension can also cause strokes and heart problems.

High blood Pressure, yes it causes problem , you get bad migraine headache, swollen feet, sometime you can pass out. the best way to prevent this lower salt intake, and slow down on eating out all the time.

Blood Pressure and Pregnancy? -

My husband and I have been TTC our first child for 30 months with no luck. I just found out that I have high blood pressure... hypertension between stages 1 and 2. What risks does this cause when TTC? Should we put TTC on the back burner for now, as much as it would hurt me to do so? I m very concerned (blood pressure was 191/122 yesterday) and have a doctor appointment tomorrow to discuss this, but I m looking for some answers today...

I have high blood pressure as well. One visit my reading was 184/102. Your bottom number is really really high which probably had your doctor pretty concerned. My doctor (general not OBGYN) put me on some blood pressure medication to control it which can be taken while pregnant. According to her research, there are three different kinds of blood pressure medication that is safe to take while pregnant. Two kinds say that deprsion can be a side effect which she was worried about since I was TTC with PCOS. My doctor put me on Acebutolol (a generic and the brand name escapes me) 200mg/day. It has been great for my blood pressure and got it under control almost immediately after starting it. It has yet to go high during my pregnancy too (knock on wood, I don t want to jinx myself!) and I have had a very healthy pregnancy. Maybe mention medication that is safe during pregnancy to your doctor??? By doing this, I did not have to stop TTC. High blood pressure can cause problems with maintaining a pregnancy, so you should get it under control.

I would discuss your options with your doctor when it comes to ttc with high blood pressure. I know that it can put you at more risk when getting pregnant. I would suggest finding ways either through medication, diet or exercise ( or maybe a combo of all three) to lower your blood pressure before getting pregnant. My friend who is due in May was told by her doctor that she had borderline high blood pressure when she went for her preconception appointment. He told her to lose about 15 pounds and exercise before getting pregnant and that should help with her bloodpressure. Well she didn t listen and got pregnant the next month and is now having a terrible pregnancy (a lot of edema, super high blood pressure, etc) and is now on a blood pressure pill and has issues with her sugar as well. She says she regrets terribly about not listening to her doctor. I would just discuss with your doctor that you are ttc and what is the best route. I am glad you are seeking help from a doctor for your blood pressure. Better safe than sorry. Best wishes!!!!!!!!!!

Im sorry that so much is happening to you except what you want to happen to you, you are in my prayers.

I Feel Like I Cant Enjoy Anything? Without Worry Help Please Fealing Depressed? -

I have Health Anxiety about High Blood Pressure my mom has hypertension. I went to the school nurse my pressure was 138/93 but it is usually less at 125/75. The Machine didnt seem to be working right also, i had a stressed day with a big arguement in class. I have a normal heart ecg ekg and circulation. Can someone please help me i dont wanna feel this way anymore. My Birthday is Dec 3 and i wanna enjoy it not dread it

Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress. It helps you cope with tense situations. It also helps you focus on the task at hand and motivates you. Almost everyone experiences anxiety from time to time. Typically, anxiety goes away when the triggering event is resolved. However, anxiety is a problem when it becomes an excessive, irrational dread of everyday situations, such as riding an elevator or leaving your house. People with anxiety disorder experience fear and worry that are out of proportion to the situation. These feelings are difficult to control and are more intense and last longer than normal feelings of anxiety. For instance, while it s normal to feel anxiety before public speaking, a person with anxiety disorder may consistently worry about speaking with small groups of people in everyday situations. Both normal worry and anxiety may be associated with the following symptoms. However, a person with anxiety disorder will experience these symptoms more frequently and intensely: Restlessness Fatigue Irritability and crankiness Muscle tension Headaches Sleep difficulties (unable to fall or stay asleep) Feelings of panic, such as sweating and shortness of breath If you find it difficult to control your worry or stress or if anxiety interferes with your daily activities, consult your doctor or a mental health professional. If you are diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, effective treatment is available.

138/93 is really NOT horribly high. If you were a middle-aged adult, yeah, a conservative physician might have you take a daily quot;water pillquot; to reduce it a bit....but that s only because most physicians realize that most folks are not good about following the more natural path of decreasing their salt intake (snack foods/fast food) and getting more exercise (like taking a half-hour walk every day or two.

Happy Birthday! :D Now just a million more people tell you that and you ll feel a teensy bit better. Til then - just relax, take a walk, have a hot bath and some ice cream, anything that ll make ya feel better.

Can high blood pressure cause seizures?? -

Hi, my friends little boy who is 2 got rushed to hospital on tues after having a seizure. He has suffered with hypertension since birth! just wondered if this is a cause as have not managed to speak to my friend as she is in hospital and only got told this morning! he is such a sweet little boy and i hope he will be ok thanks xx

Yes Hun high blood pressure can cause seizures. So can a high temperature(febrile convulsion) though in babies and toddlers. So if he s been poorly with a cold etc it could bring a seizure on. I hope he s OK x

For children, high blood pressure is determined by comparing the child’s blood pressure with the distribution of blood pressure for children of similar sex, age and height. A child whose blood pressure is greater than or equal to 95% of children of similar sex, age, and height (at or above the 95th percentile) would be considered to have high blood pressure. Prehypertension in children is classified as a blood pressure of 120/80 mmHg or higher but below the 95th percentile. A diagnosis of high blood pressure should be based on blood pressure readings on at least three different visits. The correct–size blood pressure cuff must be used.

22 and Diagnosed with High Blood Pressure, Please Help! ? -

I was told that I have high blood pressure a couple years ago. I had gotten all the blood tests completed, the stress test, and the echo and even the kidney test and was told that everything was normal. Yet my blood pressure was still high. My weight is 180, it was around 150 when I was 18. I am on medication right now and it controls it. When I m off of it, it spikes again. I guess I am one of the unlucky ones with essential hypertension at a young age. My questions are, will I live a long life? I am afraid that I won t and my marriage is coming up and I do not want to be a burden on someone. I am really scared, please help!

Pretty scary. HiBP causes strokes, heart attacks and kidney failure. You re only 22? Get on medication and you might live to 40 or so but that is stretching it. Good luck.

If you are on medication, then that will be lowering your BP. If you eat healthily, exercise regularly and keep away from situations that could cause you stress, then you should be fine. I m at the point where my diet and exercise routine is reducing my BP, and I hope to be off medication later this year. You don t say how tall you are, but if you need to lose some weight, that will help. Hope this helps.

You need to take control of this now, while you are young. Healthy diet, exercise, and healthy living. Also, fish oils have been shown to have a beneficial effect on blood pressure and blood lipids. Don;t give up hope, and definitely don t depend on medication for the rest of your life!

Yep, bad luck for sure. Which is more important, the length of our lives, or what we do with the time we have? After all, even a 100 years is less than an eye blink in the grand scheme of things. Take you meds, exercise, keep your weight down, avoid stress, and love your bride. You could spend 60 more years worrying about how long. Quit it and just get on with living. Good luck.

you will be just fine as long as you keep your blood pressure under control but your dr. might put you on a higher mg as you get older. i been taking blood pressure medicine now for 12 yrs.and i,am ok. your dr. will test you for it everytime you have a check-up.

high blood pressure can be controlled by meds, eating healthy and getting exercise. Avoid sodium and smoking and watch your weight.

Be sure to control your weight and your emotional state. A doctor can ;place a stint in your kidney that will help or eliminate your problem.

I need information on these diseases.? -

(Never heard of this disease before) quot;Type 2quot; congenital, infectious,or non-infectious? Is Cerebral Palsy congenital, infectious,or non-infectious? Is Hepatitis B congenital, infectious,or non-infectious? (Never even heard of this disease before) Is quot;Downquot; congenital, infectious,or non-infectious? Is Asthma congenital, infectious,or non-infectious? And last but not lease, is Hypertension congenital, infectious,or non-infectious ?

Type 2 (diabetes??) is non-infectious Cerebral Palsy is congenital (meaning one is born with it) Hep B is infectious (meaning one can contract it from others) Down s Syndrome is congenital Asthma is non-infectious and/or congenital Hypertension is non-infectious (meaning one cannot give it to someone else)

Is crabs amp; shrimps cause high blood cholesterol level? -

many believe that crabs and shrimps cause hypertension but my uncle said its not true. my uncle is a doctor. how safe the crabs and shrimps to eat? thanks

Humans need cholesterol, which amongst other things is an important component of cell membranes. High blood cholesterol has become a problem for many people and can lead to a variety of health problems such as coronary heart disease. Most animal meat, eggs and shellfish are comparatively high in cholesterol and have therefore in the past received a lot of negative publicity. The human body produces cholesterol from saturated fats and evidence has shown that dietary cholesterol does not necessarily become cholesterol in the blood. The cause of high blood cholesterol is in other words not a diet high in cholesterol but a diet high in saturated fats, which the body itself then turns into cholesterol in the blood. Shellfish are very low in fat.

They are very heart healthy as they are shellfish which has the omega-3 s which are good for the heart.

They are not fatty, quite safe.

mostly seafood causes alot of side effects.but i will just eat it ,wadever the effects.coz i live my life to the fullest !! ^.^

I m slightly confused by your question, are you asking if they cause high cholesterol levels, or hypertension(high blood pressure)? Any animal product can contribute to increased cholesterol level, so if you are eating crab and shrimp everyday, then it is possible that it will raise your cholesterol level. As far as hypertension, I have never heard that those two can increase blood pressure. Of course the way that they are prepared can effect BP. If you are adding a lot of salt when preparing them, then yes it could possibly raise your BP. Without the addition of foods that have shown to increase the risk for hypertension, I wouldn t worry about those two.

I don t know IS they?

I don t know about hypertension but those crustaceans ARE high in cholesterol.

there healthy to eat

My Health Anxiety Is Going to ruin my b-day? -

Why i worry constantly is becuase i suffer from sinus headaches that make me think i have high bp. My mom has hypertension so that influences the anxiety. I got my bp checked by the school nurse it was up 138/93 but she said something might of have been wrong with the machine because it was making this beeping noise and my usual is much lower at 126/80 or less. Question one even if i have these anxiety attacks can i lower my bp with exercise. question 2 i think during the bp test my heart beats harder than if i ran up 2 flights of stairs so do you think its inaccurate. I am overweight but i still think the reading was inaccurate. After I exercise would it go down i dont think its up anyway. My ecg ekg and circulation is normal all blood test normal should i worry. And if i exercise even during anxiety attacks should i worry. would the exercise help me Thanks please answer with detail. I wanna enjoy my 16th b-day tommorow

awe, i am sorry i know how you feel though. I have something similar except i get like dizzy from my anxiety attacks. I currently go to a therapist and i am getting so much better, you can t let anxiety take over you because first of all it will really drain you physically and mentally it really sucks. You need to fight the thoughts or else they will just grow like a monster and feed off of your pain believe me i know. You should do at least 30 mins. of exercise each day because that can really help your anxiety as well as your BP, you maybe should see a psychologist to get it under control. You shouldn t worry about anything you are a very healthy person. You are very young, enjoy your birthday make it one day of the year when you don t worry, give yourself a day off. Happy birthday!

See anxiety treatments, at ezy build (below) in section 6. Set yourself a specific time period for worrying about anything, (say; around three quarters of an hour, possibly when you get home, or after your evening meal, but not too close to bedtime) after which, resolve firmly to refuse to even entertain the thought of worrying again on that day: realise and accept that to do otherwise would be counterproductive to your mental health, and enjoyment of life. You will have had your quot;worry timequot; for the day, and can just write down any more thoughts that come to mind, and say to yourself: quot;Well, I ll just have to worry about that tomorrow, won t I?quot;. It is important to deal with a negative internal monologue (self talk), or mental process, such as disturbing thoughts, or images, by the process of (a): recognising it, and (b): challenging it immediately. When you notice something negative, such as: quot;I m never going to get over this!quot; or: quot; Why am I always so pathetic/useless/such a loser?quot; or even: quot;I can t do this/will never get over this!quot;, or a disturbing image, recognise that this is part of the mindset which will hold you back from progress. Having identified and labelled it, visualise a large, red, flashing, quot;STOP!quot; sign, and/or possibly a stern faced person wagging an index finger at you in a negative manner, then say to yourself as forcefully as you can, even aloud in a big voice, if alone: quot;I know this tactic: GO AWAY FOR A WHILE !!!quot; You may want to use either: quot;rusequot;, quot;ployquot;, quot;gamequot;, or quot;trickquot;, instead of quot;tacticquot;. In the case of an image, visualise a large quot;STOPquot; sign, or your preferred version. Some people go so far as to keep a wide rubber band in their pocket, then put it around their wrist, when they catch themselves backsliding, stretch and release it, as a method of reprogramming their mind sooner, but I don t regard it as being strictly necessary. Remember to remove it, afterwards, if you use this method. Try replacing a negative thought with a positive affirmation of your choice, like: quot;I am a unique individual, with my own set of skills, and good pointsquot;, or quot;I may not be perfect, but I m doing the best I can, right nowquot;. Practice one of the relaxation methods in sections 2, 11, 2c, or 2i, daily, and when needed. Alternatively, give the EFT a good tryout, to see if it helps you. There is also a version for use in public places, (if you like, you can claim to have a headache, as you massage/lightly tap your temples, but you would then be restricted to subvocalising: saying it to yourself in your mind). Section 53, and pages 2, 2.q and 2.o at also refer: quot;Even though I sometimes suffer from anxiety, I deeply and completely accept myself.quot; Neurofeedback treatment for anxiety is increasingly becoming available. Herbal remedies, such as valerian, (which is not recommended for use if depression is also present) passionflower, or St.John s wort, are often effective, but the idea is (as with anxiolytic medication) to use them like water wings, or training wheels on a bicycle, providing initial support, and giving time for other treatments, such as therapy, and relaxation techniques, to take effect. Another alternative is professional hypnotherapy, or autosuggestion; (self hypnosis) pages k, i, p, amp; q, in section 3 refer. I have had IgA Nephropathy, are there ways to self-medicate, and is this disease serious or really incurable? -

I ve been diagnosed since 12 and is under a gov doc since. I had my kidney biopsy done. Now I m 17 and recently after researching, found out more about this disease though I don t understand half of what all the websites are saying. Most of the websites have the same information though with all the medical terms I don t comprehend them. I m quite mad at my doctor for not explaining to me and my parents about it thus we have been misled into thinking its not serious. I m unsure of how fast this disease progresses and if it ll reach end-stage renal failure. Recently we ve stopped going for my checkups and taking my hypertension medication as we hear it harms the liver at such a high dosage and I m taking it for life. Are there other side effects? We tried asking the doctor about using fish oil but she turned us down thus we were upset with her. I feel like a experiment while she s taking a quot;trial and errorquot; approach to it. Will doing this affect the rate my disease progresses?

IgA nephropathy is deposition of IgA immune complexes in glomeruli, manifesting as slowly progressive hematuria, proteinuria, and, often, renal insufficiency. Diagnosis is based on urinalysis and renal biopsy. Prognosis is generally good. Treatment options include ACE inhibitors, corticosteroids, and ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. Most cases of IgA nephropathy can t be prevented. If you have a family history of IgA nephropathy, talk with your doctor to find out if there are steps you can take to reduce your risk of developing the disease. Controlling your blood pressure is one of the most important ways you can help slow kidney damage from IgA nephropathy. You doctor may recommend changes in your diet — such as limiting your salt intake — to help manage your blood pressure. A low-salt diet can also help minimize fluid retention and swelling. Other dietary changes, such as reducing the amount of protein you eat and taking steps to decrease your cholesterol levels, also may help slow the progression of IgA nephropathy. Talk with your doctor about what s right for you. Coping with IgA nephropathy can be challenging. But, you don t have to do it alone. If you have questions or would like guidance, talk with a member of your health care team. You may also benefit from joining a support group. Such a group can provide both sympathetic listening and useful information. To find out about support groups in your area that deal with kidney disease, ask your doctor. Or, contact your local chapter of the National Kidney Foundation by calling 800-622-9010.

Can anyone Help ? medicqtion problems? -

Diabetic with Hypertension. with renal involvement Medications for these problems seems to make the problems worse. Well meaning Specialists do not understand. Instead of loweriing blood pressure anithypertenisves elevate. My system seems to be sensitive to many things. INtolerant of dairy products and yeasts and now allergic to prawns. Previously very helathy, but have had alot of stress oveer a number of years. Can anyone please help

Calcium can sometimes lower blood pressure if you are low in calcium. Eating rice can sometimes lower blood pressure by maybe absorbing sodium in the gut...

I don t see how meds for high blood pressure elevate blood pressure. With renal involvement, you mean protein in urine? And to top this off most specialists are dumber that we are. Only in it for money. They don t care how much you suffer. Also when are you taking blood pressure? lie down for 15 minutes and then take. Pressure is normally high when we are active.Meds for high pressure just make you pee ,to eliminate excess volume of blood. Hope you have ins. Cause 6 yrs ago I just had routine sugar test, $549 . Doctors and health care are nothing but scams. But what do we do without them. Gov. won t let us have cheap effective drugs. In Thailand I use to pay $2 for avandia, $7 in US . and avandia is not effective.. Metformin is.. I pay 2 cents a pill here in Thailand. What do you pay in US. also I pay $4 to see doctor, and he don t rush me out , he finds out how I really am. My HBA1C is 5.6 with thai doc. in Us they couldn t control it. Wouldn t give me drugs that were effective, only the costly ones. Enough said. Learn all you can about this terrible disease. So you can tell doc. what you need.

you need to find that one doctor to help you keep going till you find the right one for you. this is the answer for all your problems. you have to do this cause no one can help this. its very important you do this now.

How can I lessen my chances of high blood pressure? -

Both sides of my family have hypertension going back several generations (some of them are overweight, others are not -- for example, my dad is 5 7quot; and weighs 140 pounds yet he has to be on medicine for his B/P). I am a 37-year-old female. A couple of years ago, I bought a blood pressure machine and my readings have always averaged something like 105/60, but since I have gained a lot of weight they average 118/85. I am working on losing weight now. Will this lower back to my normal level? How can I further lessen my chances of getting genetic hypertension besides the obvious avoiding salt, gettng more exercise, etc?

Keep your weight at a healthy # Avoid Salty foods Avoid foods high in fat Exercise

Other than what you mentioned - losing weight, avoiding salt, exercising - make sure you are eating healthy and do what you can to minimize stress in your life. If you do all of that, your BP will probably hit the normal range. But you may still end up needing medication anyway, that s just how it is for some people.

drink lots of water don t smoke don t drink alcohol in excess diet high in potassium and magnesium find healthy ways to manage stress - yoga and or meditation

There are a number of things you can do naturally, other than what you mentioned, to lower your blood pressure. 1. Robert O. Young s alkaline diet has been found to be very effective at lowering blood pressure, cholesterol, and heart disease -- even in people who are genetically predisposed to these conditions. He has a number of books out that are inexpensive and very helpful, including: quot; The ph Miraclequot; and quot;Sick amp; Tired? Reclaim Your Inner Terrain.quot; The second book is quite technical and would be appropriate for those who want not just the diet, but an in-depth understanding of biological principles (as interpreted by Dr. Young, a naturopathic doctor who has become quite famous for reversing hard-to-treat illnesses). 2. Many people who have quot;silverquot; dental amalgam fillings experience high blood pressure. The truth is, these fillings are made from 50% mercury and are highly toxic. Symptoms are often reversed when these fillings are properly removed by a trained, quot;mercury-freequot; dentist. You can read quot;Uninformed Consentquot; by Hal Huggins, DDS, or the following article for more: Dr. John McDougall has been successfully reversing hypertension and heart disease for over 3 decades with a plant and starch based diet. His book, quot; The McDougall Plan: 12 Days to Dynamic Healthquot; could be extremely helpful to you and your whole family. Here is an article from Dr. McDougall s website: Dean Ornish and his colleagues at the Preventive Medicine Research Institute have made it clear that food, diet and lifestyle choices absolutely can alter how our genes are expressed. We are convinced that there is a non-invasive, diet and exercise plan out there that can help you and even your father if he is so inclined. These should be excellent starting points. Best of luck, and take good care of yourself. - limeincoconut.com

HELP! 10 POINTS TO BEST ANSWER!!!!? -

who gets tested for blood pressure? which client group (eg. infants, pregnant women) get tested for hypertension (high blood pressure) and why? thanks x

Loads of people get tested for numerous reason. Middle aged to older persons are at an increased risk of suffering with hypertension which can have a knock on effect for ie renal failure, heart failure, diabetes. Ladies using the contraceptive medication should get their Bp taken at every consultation with a doctor or nurse, pregnant women should get routinely checked because high blood can cause and be caused by numerous conditions.

Your question was specific to waht group: infants and pregnant women. That s why I concentrated on those two groups. For pregnant women: What are those conditions? I guess you didn t want to know why? Report Abuse

Checking the blood pressure of pregnant women will reassure them to expect a healthy pregnancy and birth. If the placenta is not functioning properly it could be a potential danger to the health of the mother and fetus. Abnormalities can lead to conditions such as preeclampsia, which is maternal high blood pressure, stillbirth or the need for a pre-term delivery Pregnancy–related hypertension—existing high blood pressure can predispose some women to develop problems when they become pregnant. This is called pre-existing chronic hypertension. Also, some women first develop hypertension when they are pregnant. There are several types of this pregnancy–induced hypertension, sometimes called gestational hypertension. Either type of high blood pressure can harm the mother s kidneys and other organs, and it can cause low birth weight and early delivery. Preeclampsia is a serious condition of pregnancy and is related to increased blood pressure and protein in the mother s urine (as a result of kidney problems). Preeclampsia affects the placenta, and it can affect the mother s kidney, liver, and brain. When preeclampsia progresses and seizures develop, the condition is known as eclampsia—the second leading cause of maternal death in the United States. Preeclampsia is also a leading cause of fetal complications, which include low birth weight, premature birth, and stillbirth. Most women who develop signs of preeclampsia are closely monitored to lessen or to avoid related problems. Treatment is focused on reducing water retention and lowering blood pressure to normal limits. Blood pressure in low-birth-weight children younger than 3 years of age not only can be measured but should be, researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center have found. Blood pressure has not been screened routinely in children with very low birth weights because the measurements were viewed as not feasible or unreliable in infants and toddlers; however, evidence has shown that low-birth-weight infants and premature babies- might develop hypertension later in life. Measuring and validating blood pressure in this population really has not been addressed,” said Dr. Charles Rosenfeld, professor of pediatrics at UT Southwestern and one of the study’s authors. “This is unfortunate because the earlier that hypertension is identified, the sooner appropriate medications and lifestyle changes can be introduced to stop the development of dangerous complications.” The researchers found that just as in adults, children’s blood pressure is affected by their state of mind: Infants who were calm for at least one of the measurements had significantly lower blood pressures than those who were fussy or crying for both.

Infants will be tested in the early weeks of birth to make sure they do not suffer from any abnormalities (there are situations where some children my suffer from hypertension from an early age of from heart disease) Pregnant women are also tested to avoid hypertension. You must understand that during this period of pregnancy emotions (e.g anxiety) tend to be high causing high blood pressure and the same time towards birth the body tends to produce hormones that speed up the blood pressure and this is of concern because during birth the women bleeds a lot and that coupled with high blood pressure could be fatal as a lot of blood maybe lost than maybe replaced

pregnant women... it s because they are more prone to hypertension than babies... but both can be tested... kindly answer mine as well... thanks! http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

ALL PEOPLE OVER 40 YEARS must be screened for hypertension also pregnant women all at high risk of developing during pregnancy also elder patient usually have hypercholesterolemia and lack the blood vessel elasticity

Anyone can get tested by a doctor if the doctor feels the need be. i was tested last week!

Ecg waves question? -

1) if a patient has ischaemic heart disease they have a prolonged pr interval over 0.2 seconds, due to a problem with conduction in the heart. where might the impulses be delayed to cause the extended pr interval? 2) in patients with pulmonary hypertension, blood pressure in the lungs is much higher than normal. their ecg has a trace with a large P wave. suggest which pat of the heart will be enlarged in a person with this condition and why?

1) delay in conduction of the impulse thru the atrial tissue...PR interval measures the time of conduction thru the atria... 2) P wave is the ECG picture of an impulse which is generated by the SA node...however lead placement may give a different picture = different size = different deflection... right atrial enlargement due to the increased pressure needed to pump blood to/thru the high pressured lungs...

P wave represents right amp; left atrial contraction. PQ interval , also called PR interval is the conduction of impulse through AV node and bundle of His. This is a rare case. More commonly is ST depression that shows myocardial ischemia, Pulmonary hypertension causes hypertrophy of right ventricle; high blood pressure causes hypertrophy of left ventricle. ECG cannot give specific reading for this myocardial hypertrophy.. It is better using echo-cardiography, and the thickness of right ventricle wall can be measured more accurately.

1. Delay in condution occurs in atrial muscles and anywhere between the sa node and av node due to ischemia. 2. right atrium due to increased resistance in pulmonary circulation

1. the delay is likely below the sinus node and prior to the bundle of his. Somewhere in the atria, delaying the impulse and widening the pr interval. 2. the ventricles will be enlarged as they must work very much harder to push the blood through the lungs and out to the rest of the body.

I need your HELP ASAP?????????? -

HELLO, I M SO DISTRAUGHT WITH OUR COUNTRY THAT IT FREAKON BLOWS JUST TO SEE A DOC.....I HAVE HYPERTENSION-MEANING VERY HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, AND I NEED A DOC TO MONITOR ME...I HAVE NO MED INS, I WENT TO ER LAST NITE AND THEY GAVE ME SOME MEDS TO GET, BUT HOW AM I GOING TO BE ABLE TO KEEP ON GETTING MEDS TO CONTROL MY PROBLEM??? Yes it blows. I have the same problem too. In michigan you can get a discount card but it only takes 10% off the price. You might try calling the maker of your meds. The medical companies have been helping people out with this problem, either by offering free drugs or large discounts. If you have a regular doc they also offer free samples. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

You should try going to Ameriplan.com. It s kind of like a discount for prescriptions, dental visits, chiropractic and optical too. I don t make near enough money for any type of health insurance, and even if I did, I didn t qualify for anything. I have no kids, I m not a senior citizen and I, also, make like 20 bucks too much for income based. The discount for Ameriplan goes up to like 80% (which is fab), and it only costs like 12 bucks a month. So, you should definately try it out, or at least check out the website

Admitted in ICU? -

My friend is admitted in ICU because of severe hypertension. This is the first time this person has been diagnosed with hypertension. How severe can it be??? Please note i can t contact this person because of some social obstacles. Just worried and thinking what could be happening?? Please only serious answers.

alot of times-people with severe hypertension are admitted to the icu so they can be more closely watched and given constant medication through an i.v-only the intensive care unit can administer constant blood pressure medication through an i.v b/c the nurse has to be watching the patient on a constant basis. nurses in the icu can only have two patients at a time whereas nurses on other floors of the hospital can take up to 6 patients at a time-this is more beneficial for your friend to be in icu so he can be watched alot closer. the doctors will run several tests to determine what is causing the hypertension-alot of heart tests in particular. things like an ekg (which records the electrical waves of the heart to determine if there is something wrong with them), a cardiac echo (which is an ultrasound that takes pictures of the inside of the heart-the chambers and the valves to see if there are problems residing there), and also blood tests. i m sorry you are not able to contact your friend but icu nurses are some of the most dedicated and experienced nurses in the medical field b/c most of their patients are severly injured or sick and it requires alot of skill to take care of them. i know b/c i am one. i wish your friend the best of luck and a speedy recovery...

Hypertension is like heart disease, in that the first sign can be death. That s pretty severe, and it Can cause heart disease, because the higher disease causes the chambers to enlarge as the muscle fatigues against the hydraulic--or hydrostatic--force. It can also cause aortic dissections--what killed John Ritter--and stretch the blood vessels into aneurysms. Learn more at the American Society of Hypertension; About Hypertension; Wikipedia

They have your friend there to monitor her heart. Severe hypertension can cause a heart attack. She has to be on heart monitors and have one on one nursing care for now. God bless you and your friend.

HTN can be pretty severe....it can cause stroke, heart problems, respiratory problems.......many factors involve HTN, such as stress, med background, diet etc

Very severe high blood pressure may cause: Headaches, especially pulsating headaches behind the eyes that occur early in the morning. Visual problems. Nausea and vomiting. If untreated high blood pressure can damage organs, such as the heart, kidneys, or eyes. This may lead to: Chest pain , heart attack, or heart failure. Stroke. Kidney failure. arterial disease. Damage to their eyes. Abnormal heartbeat.

Most people with hypertension feel okay Hypertension usually does not produce any symptoms, because the organs of the body can resist high blood pressure for a long time. That’s why it’s important to have regular medical examinations to make sure your blood pressure isn’t creeping up as you grow older. High blood pressure over a period of time can contribute to many illnesses, including: Heart attack Heart failure Kidney disease Stroke. An unhealthy lifestyle can cause hypertension Some of the factors which can contribute to high blood pressure include: Hereditary factors Obesity Lack of exercise A diet high in salt Heavy drinking Kidney disease. The effects of high blood pressure on the arteries are worsened by: Cigarette smoking High levels of saturated fat in the diet High blood cholesterol Diabetes. Responses to some types of stress may affect both blood pressure and changes in the arteries, but this remains scientifically uncertain. Some drugs may cause hypertension Certain drugs can cause hypertension or make controlling hypertension more difficult. Check with your doctor or chemist for alternatives. These drugs include: The combined contraceptive pill Non-steroidal anti-inflammatories Some nasal drops and sprays Some cough medicines, eye drops and appetite suppressants.

I have a few patients with malignant hypertension. 210/112 is a typical reading. This is severe. This is life threatening. Your friend s nurse will be monitoring him/her closely -- his/her condition, B/P, cardiac status, urine output and his/her response to medication. The nurse has two patients and your friend is one of them. There are no nurse assistants -- this is total nursing care. Your friend s doctor will see him/her once a day if he/she s stablized. More often if he/she s not. The idea is to control and lower the B/P. It may take a combination of meds and some dosage adjustments to achieve this. If your friend has any coexisting conditions, these will be treated as well. Right now, your friend has a B/P cuff on his/her arm 24 hours, a Foley catheter and is on a cardiac monitor. Your friend can be seen through a glass wall from the nurses station at all times. Your friend is getting the best of care. You may not be able to see your friend right now, but you can send a card.

if the hyperstension is bad enough it can lead to stroke or heart failure...it is very treatable, however, and once they get it under control, he should be fine as long as he follows the drs orders

Your friend is probably on IV blood pressure medications now while they try to reduce what they call malignant hypertension. They most likely have him quot;wired for soundquot; and are watching his heart on a monitor. Usually they start checking for a cause of hypertension by doing blood test to check his kidney functioning and maybe even look at his renal arteries by CT scan or ultrasound. They may do a drug test to look for drugs in his system. There are a whole host of reasons for your friend to be hypertensive. They will encourage him to lose weight and maybe put him on a low salt diet. A lot depends on what they find when they start testing. RN x 12 yrs.

if they are in icu, its bad. you can always call icu and get their visiting hours and what room your friend is in...that might make them feel better...

Step 1 embryo q on congen heart probs? -

A 25-year-old woman gives birth to a infant at 38 weeks. The neonate has a bluish color at birth, which slowly resolves over the next hour. In the neonatal intensive care unit, the nurses notice that the infant becomes cyanotic while crying. Eventually, congestive heart failure and pulmonary hypertension develop. Which of the following congenital defects may be the cause of these findings? A. Patent ductus arteriosus B. Persistent truncus arteriosus C. Primum type atrial septal defect D. Secundum type atrial septal defect E. Ventricular septal defect

Cyanotic defects: include persistent truncus arteriosus, total anomalous pulmonary venous connection, tetralogy of Fallot, transposition of the great vessels, and tricuspid atresia. Answer is B. Truncus arteriosus is a rare type of congenital heart disease characterized by a single blood vessel arising from the right and left ventricles, instead of the normal two (pulmonary artery and aorta). There are four subtypes of truncus arteriosus, depending on the specific anatomy of the single vessel.

I can t think of the name right now...but, it s c d or e
