A late 50s lady suffers for half a month tingling feelings with pins and needles on her right hand til arm. -

What could that show? hypertension crisis, high bp, possible heart attack, lack of calcium or even carpal tunnel syndrom? Please cud someone with medical background comment on this syntoms? What shud this lady do next?TQ

Peripheral neuropathy is dysfunction of a spinal nerve or nerves distal to a plexus or root. It includes numerous syndromes characterized by varying degrees of sensory disturbances, pain, muscle weakness and atrophy, diminished deep tendon reflexes, and vasomotor symptoms, alone or in any combination. Initial classification is based on history and physical examination and must be confirmed with electromyography and nerve conduction velocity studies. Treatment is aimed mainly at the cause. Carpal tunnel syndrome is compression of the median nerve as it passes through the carpal tunnel in the wrist. Symptoms include pain and paresthesias in the median nerve distribution. Diagnosis is suggested by symptoms and signs and confirmed by nerve conduction velocity testing. Treatments include ergonomic improvements, analgesia, splinting, and sometimes corticosteroid injection or surgery. Consult a neurologist. Please see the web page for more details on Radial nerve dysfunction,Carpal tunnel syndrome and peripheral neuropathy.

My first thought is carpal tunnel. It could also have to do with not getting enough circulation in those areas, as with some vascular diseases. Can t tell you much without knowing more, but those two seem most likey. Has she seen a doctor? Hypertensive crisis sounds unlikely -- I hope she has had her blood pressure checked. Next she should see her MD.

It sounds like carpal tunnel syndrome. She needs to be evaluated by a doctor and an occupational therapist.

I have feelings with pins and needles too and was told by two Dr.s I had carpal tunnel syndrome. They were wrong. I have the symptoms from a back injury of falling on ice. I was thrown up in the air a landed on the the ridge of stepts that cut a chunk out of my vertibre (sp). They all kept looking at it and said my toe would be effected. Well no one looked at the fact my head was whip blashed on impact and this caused the numbness and tingling in my hands. I just live with it now. Numbness in the face is what I see no one considering. If your hands and arms was the only one then it may be CT but the face should tell a Dr. something else is wrong. Get attention immediately. The heart attack and stroke is in these symptoms too. Im just a lay person but you need medical advice now.

While this sound more like carpel tunnel syndrome, she needs to be evaluated by her doctor. If you know someone who can take her blood pressure, let them. Does she have a history of high B/P, heart problems etc? Get her to make an appointment to see her doctor. If any of these symptoms increase, go to the ER.
