Why did it take them 25 years or so to remove fenphluramine from the market? -

Hi, Read about fenphluramine recently, and it just doesn t make sense to me. I understand the pulmonary hypertension was caused due to it being a 5ht2b agonist (this was the problem with it right?) But wasn t it removed from the market around 20-25 years after it was released onto the market!? Stats said something like users of the drug for 1 month, 21% had heart problems, 2 months, 24%, 3 months 27%, or something of the sort..... but surely if it took less than 1 month to start making these problems.... the authorities would have recognized a link pretty quickly!!! Also... are those figures above accurate? 21% in 1 month of use is very worrying!! as there are similar drugs on the market now that also have 5ht2b agonistic properties, judging from what i ve seen amp; read! Are the dangers truly that prominent with 5ht2b agonisms?

The statistics are there, ; but the medical profession refuses to accept them. Edit: - Epidemiological (and subsequent statistical ) investigations, findings, and conclusions) are only worthy insofar as they are a substitute for true understanding of physical mechanisms. That is, IF one can t work out and understand the processes and events in a physiological sequence (for valid reasons) then the next-best approach is epidemiology. But epidemiological findings are (at best) quot;second-hand indicatorsquot; of what s going on. When the Medical profession has been faced with apparent paradoxes in the past, historically they have buried their head in the sand and hoped the problem would go away, -instead of -as a Physicist would, -try to find out why the results led to anomalous results. This is aided and massively abetted by the financial considerations of drug companies involved. So, when you say quot;The authoritiesquot;... - who ARE these quot;authoritiesquot; ? Mostly they are academics trying to make a historic name for themselves, and keep in with the people who pay them. In my case, it s people who want a Knighthood, or whatever. Does that make sense?
