Left Chest Pain? -

I took one of those blood pressure things at Wal*Mart and I think I have either prehypertension or hypertension. My stystolic reading was 121 and my dyonostic reading was 69.The other reading was 105.I think I was alittle excited when I took the test because of someting my sister told me but does that even effect the reading?I also yawn all the time.So is chest pain part of (pre)hypertension and do I possibly have that or anything else in particular?

Wow. Those seem a little high. But, yes, something that makes you a little excited could change the readings. I know that when I go to the doctor, I get like that...you know, white coat syndrome or whatever, and my readings tend to be a little high so. I don t think that chest pain is a sign of pre hypertension, since there aren t usually many signs, so I m not sure what to say about that part. Perhaps you lifted something too heavy? That can cause some chest pains. I hope I helped :)

This Patient Guide is written for the loved ones of heart patients who are dealing with the short-term stress that comes with a test, procedure or recent diagnosis of heart disease. I gave up smoking 10 wks ago now have high blood pressure? -

I had low blood pressure - around 120 top - before I started to quit. I am stressed from giving up smoking but I didn t realise it would mean my blood pressure would go up to borderline hypertension level - 140/80 in the last month, measured 3 times by doctor, last time was 140/78. I have to go back again this week to have it tested again, but I shudder at idea of having to take medication. I gave up smoking to get healthier, not develop something like this. I have been eating well and exercising, so it s not like I ve adopted other bad habits. I m hoping it will be a temporary rise in blood pressure.....hasthis happened to anyone else?

While not a smoker, I m almost positive it s the stress from stopping smoking which has made your blood pressure go up. But first of all, let me CONGRATULATE you for having stopped and having the courage to not even think of going back. Someone very close to me took years off her life because of smoking and also because of being unnecessarily nervous due to fears, etc. Ironically it was FEAR and stress which made her pick up smoking after having valiantly tried to stop. And only because of the unfounding fear of another smoker who told her the very stupid story of someone having gotten cancer six months after quitting!!! SMOKING and STRESS is what has her hooked up to oxygen tank or air concentrator (electric oxygen provider) 24 hours a day. And a couple of people in her immediate family monitoring her salt and acid food intake; caring she doen t dehydrate; propping her pillows; watching for excess carbon dioxide in her blood. And making sure no single thing alters her mood, whether the singlest bit of bad news or the overexcitement of any new event!!! Remember that with lung disease, such as COPD, comes other quot;partnersquot;, for example, CHF. This combination of lung and heart defficiency destroys person completely. Regarding blood pressure; she suffered it throughout her life and is currently on medicines for it as well. If your doctor feels your blood pressure needs meds, then you do have to take them. It might be related to the cessation of smoking. It may not. But don t leave it untreated. Also keep yourself busy with as many things as possible, such as by incorporating hobbies to your daily life. Dancing, reading, knitting, writting, painting, listening to music, playing an instrument. Anything will help you in not wanting to smoke, and will calm your nerves beyond your belief!!! If you re calm, there s zero stress. With less, or no stress, there s no high blood pressure. Unless there s another underlining illness. CONGRATULATIONS, AGAIN!!!

Wow..... that s quite weird.... Though It s not the first I ve heard of people developing problems (e.g. respiratory problems) after giving up.... it s strange.... I suppose having the chemicals in cigarettes in your system then them suddenly not being there may cause imbalances.... are you using anything e.g. patches to help you ? Has the doctor discussed the posibility of a link between this ? All the best :)

Folk Remedies and Natural Cures... find the link at the bottom of New Free Books. I think you can find some help there.

I don t have an answer. Smoking raises your blood pressure by restricting blood vessels. I had the opposite experience. Mine went from borderline hypertension to normal when I quit. Give it some more time and talk with your doctor -- don t let it cause you to go back to smoking!! It s not the answer.

I think you are great for making the change and I am certain the advice given above is sound. Suffice to say my old Mum died at the age of 99yrs and eleven months and smoked like a trooper every day of her adult life

I would think it s temporary due to the stress of quitting smoking. In the long run, not smoking will be better for you.

140/80 is barely above average and certainly nowhere near medication levels, so I wouldn t worry on that front. When your systolic levels start rising, it is less concerning that your diastolic levels. Therefore, it is probably due to the increase in stress occasioned by the lack of nicotine. I gave up smoking (20 a day) at Christmas and my blood pressure went through the roof with stress for three months. I was terrified, as high blood pressure runs in my family, but by using a combination of herbal remedies (particularly valeriana), breathing exercises and CBT my blood pressure reached normal levels once again (having previously been a little high when I was a smoker). Persevere with your quitting and try using some herbal stress relief aids, they really helped with me (maybe even something like St John s Wort). Good luck!

Let me just say well done 10 weeks is brill smoking a drug giving it up is a good thing but other things start to take its place like stress ur blood pressure is high for giving up a drug its going to get a lot worst before it gets better stick it out amp; good on u.

I stopped smoking 54 days ago and my blood pressure has dropped again! I always had quite low pressure anyway and now it is ridiculous, 94/58 this morning! I had major surgery on 13th August and the anaesthetist was quite concerned at one point over my bp. 140/80 isn t tremendously high, not high enough to require medication. You haven t said how old you are and that can also factor in a bp rise.

First of all 140/78 is not particularly high, and not a blood pressure that would be offered medication. Hopefully your doctor either has in the practise, or can refer for direct access, a 24 hour BP monitor. This gives a much better indication if you really have an issue. It supplies among other things a mean day and night BP.

its the bottom measurement thats the one to watch, mine was in the 100 before they medicated me, and sometimes when it comes down they defer you from medication any way. its better to be safe, and i guess its gone up because your feeling stressed from not smoking, well done you.

You know your body wants to trick you into smoking again. This will subside when your body gets accustomed to the new smokefree lifestyle. Better a few weeks of high BP now than be seeing a cancer specialist in a few years, or having a cardiac arrest.

Maybe you need to find something to occupy your mind, during this difficult transition. Find something that you really enjoy doing, and try to use this to distract yourself from the fact that you are not smoking. I think the liver and other organs have a real job trying to get the toxins out of your body, right now, and maybe the doctor could comment on this, but you may have lots of toxins circulating in your body that the liver is trying to release. That is why trying to adopt very healthy eating habits would be of help. Then go online and find vitamins or other natural ways to support your body. Look up cigarettes and detoxify, or high blood pressure and natural relief, or something like that. One person who stopped smoking said the way that helped him through it was saying to himself (when he would go for the cigarette machine): quot; Not right now, maybe later.quot; That way he put it off, and could relax about it. He managed to avoid the later part of it, and succeeded.

Hi Miss Remorse Here are some ideas on how to heal the issue without drugs. Cause: High Blood Pressure: There is a thickening of the blood from catarrhal and excess glutinous and fibrinous matters loading the circulatory system. Generally there is a clogging of the bowel with putrid body waste, making it necessary to cleanse the excretory systems in order to purify the blood. Low blood and high blood pressure are both due to malfunction of the circulatory system. High blood pressure in many cases works just like low blood pressure. Cholesterol must be eliminated from the system in order to get the blood flowing more freely. The condition is brought about by improper diet, insufficient rest and exercise and a lack of vitality within the system. Herbal Aids: 1. High Blood Pressure: With high blood pressure, cholesterol and mucus form a sludge within the body. Avoid the mucus-forming foods and take herbs that act as a solvent by liquefying impurities such as cayenne, garlic or sassafras. Take cayenne, working up to a teaspoon three times a day. This increases the power of the heart and corrects the circulation problems. Garlic in copious amounts will bring down high blood pressure. Pure tomato juice is very good as a nutritional and a medicinal herb. Wheat germ oil is excellent for feeding the heart and helps cut the cholesterol and smoothens its removal from the area. Avoid the use of liquor and tobacco, do not keep late hours, and avoid over-tiredness and worry. There is an intricate inter-relationship between ones living habits and his body condition. 2. Low Blood Pressure: More oxygen is needed to correct this condition. Garlic is a good oxygen carrier. One of the greatest aids for low or high blood pressure because of oxygen starvation is deep breathing, which serves as a catalyst and helps the herbs react more rapidly. An immediate increase in circulation may be obtained by the use of cayenne and non mucus-forming foods. Grape juice as well as other juices rebuild and give endurance to the system. 3. Vitamin K: The blood clotting properties of Vitamin K, it has been found effective in preventing and curing high blood pressure in test animals, and may turn out to be important for the same use in humans. It is important that in the plant kingdom, only Alfalfa contains a significant amount of Vitamin K; most plants are quite deficient in the vitamin. 4. Kelp: It is an arterial cleansing agent and gives tone to the walls of the blood vessels. It is helpful in some cases of arterial tension (high blood pressure). Practitioners believe that it helps to remove deposits from the walls of the arteries and restore their elasticity, thereby lengthening life. Sufferers from low blood pressure can also have this condition normalized with the use of Kelp. 5. Hawthorn Berries: A celebrated cardiac tonic for many centuries. Under conditions of stress, the heart often quot;works overtime.quot; Hawthorn berries can help in treatment of high or low blood pressure, tachycardia, and arrhythmia. It is also anti-spasmodic, sedative, and soothing to nerves, especially in nervous insomnia. 6. Garlic: Many people have been helped in ridding the body of worms by inserting a peeled button of garlic as high as possible into the rectum. Do this just before retiring at night and it will come out with the first bowel movement in the morning. (This is also a fine aid in adjusting high blood pressure and low blood pressure). 7. Water: It is very beneficial to drink a gallon of quot;steam distilled waterquot; each day. This will aid to cut down the hardening of the arteries, adjust high and low blood pressure, and retard body dehydration. The amount of water depends on the weight of the individual. Use one ounce of quot;steam distilled waterquot; to each pound of body weight. i.e. a one hundred and thirty pound individual should drink a gallon of the water (132 oz.) or a twenty pound child, twenty ounces of the water. 8. Juices for High Blood Pressure: Celery-garlic-parsley, celery, dandelion, grapefruit. 9. Juices for Low Blood Pressure: Beet, grape, pomegranate. 10. Vegetables for Blood Pressure: The green bell-shaped pepper is especially good for ... high blood pressure and acidosis. The Sweet Potato used... for problems of low blood pressure and poor circulation. Peaches are considered valuable in cases of ...high blood pressure Pineapple is considered good for... high blood pressure. Strawberry is recommended for ... high blood pressure. Ample consumption of tomatoes is considered to improve ... high blood pressure. 11. Pecans: These have been used where there is a problem with low blood pressure...Pinon nuts have saved the life of many an Indian baby when made into a nut soup and used as milk for the baby when the mother had no milk. The nut is considered to be effective where there are problems with the lungs such as tuberculosis, impotence, paralysis, low blood pressure, and emaciation. The Pinon nut is one of the best sources of protein in the nut family. Best of health to you

I had ACL knee repair three days ago,Hydrocodone not working well? -

I had ACL knee repair surgery three days ago using a hamstring graft. Since then, I have been elevating the knee, icing it nearly continually, and taking prescribed Hydrocodone - 2 tablets of 10-325 every 4 hours. I am staying in bed 90% of the time or more -only getting up to use the restroom or give my body a break. The Hydrocodone works most of the time, but not always. It takes about 45 minutes to kick in, and the ease of pain only lasts for about 1 hour or so. I am also taking Motrin, and that seems to help some, but I am still in discomfort for about three of the 4 hours inbetween when I take the pills. Also tried alternating Hydrocodone and Motrin, with limited effect. I can t expect the pain to completely go away, I m realistic about that, but shouldn t it be better than this? 1. Is this normal or do I have a some moderate resistance to Hydrocodone (Tylenol + Codine) and some other medicine would be better? 2. Is it safe to take Motrin and Hydrocodone together? 3. I feel some possible side effects - are these from these meds? The effects are: Hypertension (perceived) and swelling in my throat (seems my throat is closing in, like I have food in it I need to swallow) - also fatigue, but that is known and I am ok with that. I know you re going to say, quot;Ask your doctorquot;, but when this all started yesterday, I tried calling twice, and also e-mail them (two different people at their office) and got no responses. I figured they were closed down for Good Friday. Now its the weekend, and I m thinking I m just going to have to endure until I meet with him at my appointment on Monday. I can get through the pain, its just not fun and seems to be more than what s normal given these meds. Anything I can do I m not doing already? Thanks.

1. I wouldn t think you have a resistance to Hydrocodone unless you ve used it a lot in the past. Hydrocodone and Tylenol + Codeine are 2 different medications. There are other narcotic pain relievers available by prescription. 2. Yes, it is safe to take Motrin and Hydrocodone together. Motrin (Ibuprofen) is good for inflammation. 3. Fatigue is normal for Hydrocodone, but swelling of the throat is a potential allergic reaction. You might try another over the counter anti inflammitory such as Aleve, but don t mix the Motrin with the Aleve. If you can t reach your doctor, call your pharmacist.

I am sorry to say this but I am going to have to invoke the quot;Go To The ERquot; clause. Why your surgeon went with a HUGE dose of hydrocodone, I am not sure. Here in my area we use oxycodone ER (Oxycontin) for post ACL pain. Then again, I ve not seen our patients have a lot of post-op pain. Between the lack of pain control you are getting and the side effects you are exhibiting, you simply have no option but to be seen in ER. They can page your surgeon or the surgeon on call and get your pain under control with IV pain medicine while you are there. Best Wishes for some Relief!

Why is it 1st thing when in pain people think it is pain pills? Knee surgery requires to walk around or you will have another as knee will leave you with no movement in knee and more surgery. would you like to feel pain or become addicted and lose everything including family which you do not believe but you will see.

Depression? -

I am 32 years married woman from past few months i am facing terrible depression and hypertension. I really dont know the causes behind it but i think love and affection is gone completely from my mind because i dont feel like any happiness from small small things also i loose my temper on my kids and even though they do some really nice things sometimes i dont feel like praise them or pamper them. My husband is usually busy with his own business and cant give much of his time. Usually i want everything to be done as per my own wish and if it doen t happens i feel terribly sad and depressed. I am not at all interested in any activities in the home also means first i was very caring and loving person who was totally involve with kids and i was like to take care of them or to fix their favourite dinner but now to make the usual food also bothers me. This was started from 2 years when i was undergone for artheritis treatment now i have chck thyroid which is normal any other test i can do

Speaking from the perspective of another person with depression. What worked me for me initially was physical therapy. The imbalance of neurotransmitters in the brain was helped very much by exercise and therapy. Massage therapy helped me very much, as did training, so much that I became a trainer and then a massage therapist. Now I have my own business. I still get down, but I m finally on the right medication and am taking an ACTIVE part in my recovery, instead of waiting for something else to come fix me.

You need to have a long talk with your doctor about the possibility of major depressive disorder (clinical depression), which is a neurochemical disease. You say you don t know the cause. If you do have depressive disorder, it s possible that the cause of how you re feeling is an imbalance of chemicals called neurotransmitters such as serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. If this is what s going on, medication, maybe coupled with some counseling, can put the joy back in your life. Also, in the thyroid, the standard TSH test doesn t always tell the whole story. If there s a history of thyroid disease in your family and/or if you have symptoms of thyroid disorders, be sure they run other thyroid tests too including a FREE T3 and FREE T4. Please talk to your doctor. You don t have to live like this. Help is available.

ever considered the thought of early menopause setting in or mid-life crisis?Talk to your doctor about how you have been feeling and what could be causing this?

You sound classically depressed - some of the symptoms that you describe are pretty normal. quot;Anhedoniaquot; - the feeling that you quot;can t feel goodquot; is pretty normal. Here is my advice- First focus on taking good care of yourself. See if you can keep a good sleep and eating schedule. If you can exercise that can sometimes help too. Clinical depression is often caused by hormonal deficits/imbalances - and restoring that balance is the first step to feeling good again.

Kidneys....? -

I go back to the kidney disease amp; hypertension doctor on Thursday, but darn, these past two days the front, sides and back around the kidney area have become quite swollen and beat red. Sort of hurts to walk and move around, almost like there is a shifting weight rotating around that area. Anyone know what could be causing this? I mean, I just started going to this guy, so im basically clueless as to whats going on becuase he just started taking tests, without any kind of diagnoses yet. Hopefully Ill find that out on Thursday. Also, does anyone know what the possible reason was for him taking a 24 hour urine sample from me, and 7 viles of blood? What exactly does that test for? Also, why is he always look at my finger tips and my ankles, im sure its to look for swelling, but every time, thats one of the first things he checks.

maybe a kidney infection or stones did they xray ?

This question is for doctors - and its very urgent? -

what happens if i take 100 catapres 150 mg tablets at a time? i am using only 1 tab of catapres 150mg at bet time for my hypertension. please tell me in deatils.

My friend, as and when we are destined to depart from the world, it will happen and it can happen without notice. Please do not, i repeat DO NOT contemplate such routes. You may end up messing up your life even further; at this point of time it is only your kidney which is not functioning. Why do you want to add more physical and medical problems to your already challenged body? AS SOMEONE HAS ALREADY WRITTEN, DO SOMETHING GOOD; YOU ARE AN ABLE PERSON AND HAVE SOME GOOD QUALITIES AND ABILITIES; TILL THE CALL COMES, MAKE THE BEST USE OF IT FOR YOURSELF AND FOR THE BENEFIT OF OTHERS IN YOUR NEIGHBOURBOOD, FAMILY AND SOCIETY AT LARGE.

Please get help!!! Life is worth living. Whatever is happening in your life now, will pass. When you are at your worst, remember things will get better in time. Suicide is NOT the solution.

sorry i am not a doctor but i will tell you this what are you doing are you trying to kill your self 100 cap s at 150 mg

I m a nurse and I m not about to tell you in details and I m sure you won t get a physician to either. My guess is you already know what s going to happen and I urge you to call your nearest suicide hot line and talk to a professional who can help sort out your feelings. Good luck.

ya, you ll surely kill yourself by overdose

Liver damage from alcohol? -

how can i support a friend that will not admit to family and friends that she has a drinking problem. Her mother has convinced her that myself and another friend are interfering. She has all the symptoms of liver damage and says she is on the transplant list because a gall stone was attached to her liver and when it was removed it got damaged. Her stomach is always swollen, she itches, swollen legs and has had a minor stroke, hypertension loss of appetite. There are various others including anger and lies.

Attend some Al-Anon meetings for yourself. These meetings will put you in contact with others that are dealing with the same issues and can offer you the tools and guidance needed to cope. One of the biggest problems is facing the fact that there is only so much that you can do. When these people and some family members are in denial, the problem can sometimes seem a losing battle. At least the meetings can offer you some peace of your own, and you can learn better ways to communicate and offer a healthier means of support to your friend. Give it a shot and good luck, it s a LONG and winding road.

The fact that her own mother does not see that she has a life threatening condition aggravated by drinking will make it difficult for anyone to convince her otherwise, and I find her mother s level of denial very disturbing. Anger and lies are very common in addiction. Someone else suggested that you go to Al Anon meetings, and I think that will help you, and may give you some other ideas about how to help your friend. Unless she stops drinking, she will die from liver failure. If she does get a transplant, but continues drinking, her new liver will be damaged as well.

There isn t a whole lot you can do, until she admits she has a problem. She can only help herself with your support, you can t do it for her unfortunately.

i woke up in the night around 2-3 o clock..and i had this distorted feeling in my left ear.. i couldn t hear barely anything and i had a sickly sharp pain in my inner ear. the pain connected down to my jaw on the left hand side and i found it difficult to open and close my mouth properly, i couldn t sleep for the rest of the night the pain was so bad, even after taking 60mg of codeine phosphate. it carried on throughout the next day and i felt a loss of appetite and energy. i also suffer from inter-cranial hypertension, this can cause problems with the eyes and ears, ive not notice any change in my eyes since i had treatment but there is still occurring whooshing in my ears.. could this be connected? or is it a common ear infection? or maybe a burst eardrum? please tell me..

Solution for the Two Grafts block among the three grafts in post CABG Case under went surgery 10 years back? -

Female 58 yrs of age , Hypertension , diabetic. known case of IHD , Triple Vessel Block underwent bypass surgery (CABG) 10 years back (1995) , unstable angina amp; breathlessness . Coronary Angiogram done in 2001 revealed that one graft was blocked (LAD) and she was on medication and recently she was admitted for unstable angina and breathlessness and coronary angiogram was done a two months back , the result was two grafts (LAD * RCA) was blocked and only one (OM) was patent , Doctor has recommended for medication . I just wanted to know whether alternative solutions (.i.e. repeat bypass surgery etc). please suggest

There must be reason he doesn t want to do a redo surgery. Is she not a good candidate or inoperable? If you don t think so, get a 2nd opinion. Redo surgeries are more tricky than the first especially when you have the problems she has( diabetes, HTN). She doesn t sound like a great candidate. Is she noncompliant? I work in the ICU with open heart surgeries and redos are generally so much more difficult and the patients are usually more sick and critical. Thats not saying it can t be done, but will it truly make her life BETTER than it is right now being so high risk? She is at a very high risk for infection, bleeding ( b/c of all the scar tissue) heart failure and failure to thrive. I know she is very symptomatic now, but with redos hospitalizion is usually prolonged and sometimes the turn out is worse than before the surgery. Find out with the doctor why he doesn t want to operate and discuss with your family whats best for her. Good luck to you guys.

How to save a life? -

I m a 15 year old boy turning 16 in a week and I weigh...I d ballpark it at about 320 lbs(about 5 10quot;). The most excersize I get is probably walking through the hallways at my school, walking home, then just walking around the house. I have hypertension, major depression, and probably will get some type of diabetes soon. Most of my time is spent on the computer and eating. I take 2 different anti-depressants (neither of them work) a vitamin, and a fish and flax seed oil or something capsule. I just want to know how much weight I could lose and how to do it by the time junior year starts, if I live that long (death could quite possibly be a blessing). Oh and I can t talk about my feelings to anyone.

You can go on a diet or play a sport, but you MUST be motivated. You say that your major activity is walking, then why don t you go for walks? If you have dog then you could walk it at the same time. If not, you could ask someone to go with you or even go alone. You will not only get exercise, but also fresh air, which might help your depression ( not always being at home at the computer) and your weight problem ( only bring water with you.)

To be able to reach your goal weight, you have to figure out WHY you turn to food and really understand that you are only hurting yourself when you do that. Then just start small...walk outside a little ways and then each day go a little bit farther The hardest part is the begginning...and just think to yourself that if I just worked out a half hour each day then that would make a huge difference...its ONLY a half hour out of your day You can do this!!

well u could get into sports or start eating healthy. maybe start walking or jogging around if u can instead of spending alot f time on the computer

Start a semi healthy eating plan and do walks around the blocks more often. A small change in your daily plan can make a massive difference. Death s not the answer.

all i can tell you is... it is possible and YOU CAN DO IT! start by redusing your food intake and start reading the calorie content on food labels. GET RID OF.. cakes, cookies, candy, fried foods, fast foods, white bread, butter, mayo, SODA, chips..ect ( i think you catch my drift) START EATING MORE.... fruit, veggies, brown bread, mustard (instead of mayo!), subway (6grams of fat or less subs though!) , WATER, 100 calorie snack bags, low calorie jello, low cal yogurt and cottage cheese, skim milk..ect. this is your job now; 1) contruct a 1800-2000 calorie plan. 2) take a long walk everyday after school or in your free time. (when watching tv , during a commercial get up and walk around a room untill the show returns) 3) Every morning when you wake up tell yourself you can do it and DON`T GIVE UP! GOOD LUCK! =)

People lost more then that, I watch The biggest loser on nbc, very inspiring. go on a diet and work out. You ll lose weight fast.

Fingers and toes numb any one experience this? -

Okay last night I got really dizzy and my right pinky finger got numb and then the one beside it and started tingling it last from 7 30 till 11 30 when my right toe gor numb at my foot, then this morning my hand and foot hurt and was still tingling and all day its felt like pins and needles in my leg right foot and both hands wont stop tingling i have hypertension but dont know if it has anything to do with it has any one experienced it and yes i am going to the doctor at 4 just wanted some advice

It s possible it is caused by your hypertension. However you should probably discuss this issue with your doctor. There is a nerve issue associated with Diabetes called Neuropathy. It sounds very much like what you re describing. So I stress again call and talk to your Doctor because the sooner you get looked at the sooner the pain will stop and the sooner you will have answers that ease your mind... Be Well, M.G

POOR CIRCULATION

You have diabetes!!!

I get some numbness and tingling as well sometimes, which could mean that you are lacking the mineral Zinc. Ask your doctor when you go today to find out whether or not you should be taking it (it s natural.) I am glad you are going to see a doctor though. It s always better to be safe than sorry.

Exercise suggestions? -

I am 5 3quot; and I weigh 116 lbs. My doctor advised me to do some form of exercise every day to get my heart rate up because hypertension runs in my family. However, I don t exercise because my metabolism is VERY high and I burn fat easily and I really don t need to lose any weight. Does anyone have any suggestions for exercises that will get my heart rate up but help me to maintain my weight? Thanks for your answers.

Sprints - they get your heart rate up. Sprint....walk....sprint....walk. Alternate between sprinting and walking. This is better to train your heart then running/jogging. Getting your heartrate up and getting it back down to its resting heart rate is better to train your heart then keeping it at a certain level for 30 minutes,

hey there :) after i lost the weight i wanted i wanted to keep it in that number so i asked a trainer and he said just a light jog everyday. (on a empty stomach) its keeps your heart rate up, keeps your blood pumping and its good exercise :) hope iv helped :) xxxx

Pilates is great for everything. It ll get your heart rate up, and you ll be fit, and you don t loose to much weight on it. This site shows pilates exercises: http://www.easyvigour.net.nz/fitness/h_F...

I got paranoid from an answer that other things are wrong with me, what do i do? -

here was the question i asked yesterday : Is it over for me ? / physically im NOT THERE anymore ? because of my physical short commings / disfigurements ? seriously my looks are just not there anymore , can i ever live a normal life ? im 31 now, stress of life as physically aged me so much in my face, im balding bad so i shaved my head short. i have 2 missing teeth , front bottom row because i headbutt a wall many years back , im determined to save up for silver implants which cost alot of dollars. i injured my left ankle years back completley torn the ligaments, it is very weak, have to watch how i walk , iam waiting for reconstructive surgery to repair it , i will be in plaster 6 weeks after and on crutches. i have an average penis, im not well endowed, my penis has a small head on it not a large one like most guys, plus the skin covering the surface of the penis head is all cracked , broken and torn, its not sore or bruised but just very sensitive - past dermatologist told me there was no skin disorder or skin infection and dismissed me so im pursuing a 3rd opinion about the cracked skin and whats caused it, and how it can be cleared -- i was told the cracked torn skin could be down to frequent masturbation. i injured my little finger years ago, cant remember how, but now, its crooked and droops over slightly , its for vanity reasons im depressed about it because i can use it normally -- the 2nd opinion surgeon told me there was nothing that can be done to straighten it , plus it could damage the finger more or permenantly straighten it.. i damaged my knuckle in my right hand by punching a wall year ago, damaged the nerves, so it hurts to hit a punchbag, but i can still use the hand normally, the surgeon also said there was nothing that can be done to repair the damaged nerves......and made a sly condescending remark not to hit any more walls - i should of crushed his face instead idiot. something is niggling at me that theres really things that can be done to fix these things but im being denied them.....maybe because of my ocd or paranoia.. but anyhow these things are depressing me because ive always been a perfectionist and been very vain, was once a cute good looking adolescant and young adult.....now im not im far from that. what should i do, just accept it ? here was an answer that got me worried that implied i might have other things wrong with me by Serious Lee : i ve had a hard as hell life also.. not going into any details.. but, many factors permit the aging process differently in each of us.. first of all it s definately genetics.... does aging happen quicker in your family? then diet? how s your diet been? do you drink or smoke? it s amazing how the skin pops back into shape when you cut back on your vices. medical... depression, hypertension, diabetes, cfs and more.. will give you that quot;weatheredquot; look also. so many factors also including where you live.. that s a big determinate too.. if you can, i d suggest a change in lifestyle to save your life. move to a cleaner, calmer region, better food, better water.. better people. change in diet, more fresh whole foods... cut back on anything you are doing that will damage the system in general and learn more about your options in life.. we all have them.. just no one is willing to share that information with us.. we always have to dig for it.. such as our retirment, tax benefits, at work what you can do and if there s opportunities to be transfered to other cities, states.. life is tough as hell, never fair and will take us when we aren t careful. i, so far, have faired rather well though with my appearance.. probably genetics, though i wouldn t know, i was a foster child.. and even though i have a terminal disease, my diet, mindset, medications help me stay in the best shape possible. possible.. but though i suffered 70% vision loss and walk with a cane, i look 20 years younger than what i am. your surroundings are so very important also. ruts can do so much to destroy a person. see what you can do. also seems like where you are at.. the doctors (as usual) aren t the best. 31 is a bit young but then again when i was 31 i was in the dying ward due to letting my malignant hypertension get the best of me. it sure helped me focus on getting upright and work on several of my options. i don t live a perfect life.. and it s still got some working on, worrying, disease and all that but.. i aim to stay away from those crippling elements that i can at least control. this made me worry i could have other things wrong with me, got my mind racing worse than it already does , what do i do ?

I read all through your question and the answer you were worried about. I don t think you need to worry - it sounded to me as if the person who gave that answer was just trying to give you some possibilities to think about. Think they wre trying to point out that life can be tough and none of us are perfect, but life can be OK too - and we can all do something to help ourselves to feel better. I think it might help you to have some counselling, so you could talk all of your worries through and feel heard. If you are in UK this can be free through your GP, and it is worth trying - I would recommend it. Meanwhile - try to focus on what you like about yourself and other people, and the world.

So you have damaged yourself by punching and headbutting walls? then tough, reap what you sow

I say a holiday (give you a break).

Huh?

Count your blessings. You live in a developed country with access to medical help and education. You are literate and whilst you catalogue a series of minor injuries and niggles you are healthy. You have all your limbs and you are not disabled. You sound like you are a hypochondriac constantly looking for problems which is probably part of your OCD. Take the positive part of Serious Lee s answer - if you feel there are parts of your life/body that you don t like it is your responsibility to change it and make your life better. This includes your mental health since that affects your physical health. Please seek psychiatric help to talk about your problems.

hey relax man! theres nothing wrong with you except you think about things too much!... you live on your own right? because when i lived on my own for a bit i got quite paranoid/ carried away with my own thoughts because i had no one there to talk about normal things with like tv, plans for the weekend etc... i always dwelled on how i was feeling, weather i was ill and all that, just take up a hobby or do something new and you ll be fine. seriously physical appearance isnt everything, i m sure your a real nice guy and your only 31! too young to be worrying yourself about trivial things such as a crooked finger or aging quot;too quicklyquot; just say to yourself quot;fu*k it!!quot; and move on :) everyones different thats what makes YOU special xxx

You need to calm down, that person was trying to help you, you might of battered yourself up but you re not diseased. When you see someone, do you really take notice of a crooked little finger or a damaged knuckle? You ve lived life, you re only 31 stop stressing and be glad it s not your two front teeth that have gone.

I think you are having a self-pity party for yourself, low self-esteem, depression, why go to all the negative things in your life and describing mental problems is a great step towards a long process of soul searching and balancing the good in your life with the bad but getting into a deep description of scars and your privates is very distasteful and a little more revealing to me than I would like to know about. I am starting to feel you may have deeper issues that needs to be addressed in private and not on the Internet. I do think you need help, I would consider to talk to a Psychology Professional. The best to you in the future.

For a start, it sounds like you ve a penis fixation - forget your problems by getting on with life - we all have disfigurations and just have to try to forget them by LIVING.

Well this is the longst one yet, that s for sure. Do us ALL a favor and go get PROFESSIONAL help. I look forward to the day your computer dies so you can t ramble on anymore and you ll be forced to leave your house and actually DO something about your problems instead of whining about them 24/7. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?...

Whats your opinion? my bloodpressure is always slightly raised,? -

especially in docs offices (but not always, last reading was good) I had a nosebleed in my sleep and it was very heavy. It stopped, but that afternoon I had a headache and had no paracetamol, so I took asprin...two hours later my nose started to bleed again, and I was hospitalised as it did not stop for 2 days (a posterior bleed) The doc released me and didnt want to put me onto hypertension medication as I had took the asprin and they think this may have contributed, but to be honest it was a posterior bleed in the morning aswell....I know i need to go and get it checked regularly but I cant seem to control my white coat hypertension......:(

Well, no one can tell you anything until you tell us what quot;Slightly raised, quot; means to you.

Hypertension is a disease that a person gets depending on family history, age, diet. Nosebleeds can occur when a patient has high blood pressure and aspirin can act as an anticoagulant. Hypertension can be controlled by eating fruits, vegetables, white meat like chicken, turkey and fish and do exercises to dilate the arteries and let the fast flow of blood push away any dangerous plaque that may line the artery walls. A doctor can suggest what exercises you can do. I am a paramedic and my wife has hypertension and she walks every day and takes Atacand to control hypertension. I was once obese and on New Year s day I began dieting and exercising and I have lost pounds from 230 to 185. 130/80 is the borderline to hypertension. Keep your BP to 120/80 which is normal. I do not know your age. Nor your family history. If you are obese or not...or just plain normal outside but with hypertension. If you diet and execise daily or one day yes and the other no...who knows? Your nose bleeds may stop and the exercises will make you feel good all over. nuff said.

Julius T has given a good answer but I have some observations to make about the history you have given. 1. Please do not take aspirin if you are subject to nose bleeds or if you have any other bleed problems, except under medical advice and supervision. Aspirin is well known to prevent blood from clotting and can cause a small bleed to become a more serious problem - as you have experienced. 2. Blood Pressure can become raised by a variety of things including anxiety and stress. Even visiting the Doctor when you are unwell :-) When you see your Doctor on your next visit. ask if he/ she is concerned by the raised level. If they are unconcerned you have nothing to worry about. Don t panic, I m sure medication to reduce your blood pressure would have been prescribed by now if there was concern.

Do Stress Headaches mean having High Blood pressure? -

I get headaches often on differnt parts of the head mostly front and sides, sometimes the top. Its been said when you get them like that they re stress headaches. My blood pressure has been a little elevated on ocassions but Its fine for the most part. Sometimes when I don t eat for hours my blood pressure drops and I get headaches and palpitations. My mother has hypertension. I m 34. Often when I get upset or yell I get sudden headaches that feel heavy. Never had migraines. Other times get headaches when I don t eat for hours. I sometimes wake up with a headache. I had a brain scan about 5 years ago. All clear. I always wonder about headaches, high blood pressure and aneurysms, had a friend that died at 40. Any input is appreciated.Thank you.

You hit a lot of subjects in your question. Overall question, stress headaches mean high bp, I d say no. Stress can come from many areas not only the circulatory system. Most of my quot;stressquot; headaches are when my muscles tighten. This can be stress from emotions, heat or extreme cold, extra pressure such as tests in school or projects at work that take extra preparation and make me on the nervous side. Eating right/regularly will help with many headaches. They can be like a warning signal that you aren t taking care of yourself and cause bp, blood sugar etc levels to change making you feel bad in general. Hypertension can be inherited. Mine was low until I was about 30 yo and since then it has been higher (it has had some extreme reasons for being higher also). Not sure if you re saying your friend had a brain aneurysm or one somewhere else, but aortic aneurysms at least now can be treated successfully most of the time but monitoring with regular scans (no more than 2 years) is very important.

wow as i found out this week headaches could be caused by anything. on tues morning i was lifting a lawnmower into the trunk of a car when bam, it felt as if someone walked up behind me and hit me with a hammer. well to make a long story short, by tues afternoon i drove myself to the e.r. and was given a ct scan, which showed nothing, then i was given a spinal tap, which oh by the way you havent lived till you had one of those, and that was negitive, then yeaterday after my doc talked to a neuroligist sent me to the hospital to have a dye injected into me and scanned again, still nothing, and today still have a minor headache so it could be anything or nothing. good luck

I need the menu...? -

for diabetics and kidney patient...what are the food they can or cannot eat and the implication of eating food that are high in sugar contents. What about fiber? Also for Hypertension..what are foods to avoid?

I worked in the dietary dept. at the hospital and for NO CHARGE, you can go to your local hospital and ask for a menu plan for the conditions you mentioned. Go to the dietary dept. a nutrition aide or the dietician will print you out the copies OK.

Thank you for choosing my answer. Good Luck. Report Abuse

Pulmonary Hypertension? -

Hi, I have recently been diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension. I had a follow up with my cardiologist. So far it is not known if I have PRIMARY, or SECONDARY pulmonary hypertension. I am going tomorrow to have a transesophageal echocardiogram test performed to see if there might be a clot, or a hole in my heart that is causing the PH. My Question is, other than a hole in the heart, or a blood clot somewhere, does anyone know of any other causes that could be considered primary pulmonary hypertension, that could be ruled out/ possibly treated, before I would be Diagnoses as having Secondary PH??? I know I can find out most of this at my appointment. tomorrow, but I am just really nervous and curious as well (not about the procedure, but the outcome). I also wanted to know before-hand so that I can ask the doc questions before I am under sedation for the procedure. If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

~~The best website to research quickly and easily is www.webmd.com It has a wealth of information and by entering Pulmonary Hypertension you can bring up complete information to answer all your questions. I am so happy to hear you are getting the test done and hope your diagnoses is one which can corrected quickly and you have health and peace of mind. I will be thinking of you and wishing you all the very best! Take care and I hope you get the information you need to give you some relief tonight! Please take care!~~

Congestive left heart failure could lead to pulmonary hypertension and edema. Patent ductus arteriosus is another possibility.

High blood pressure and pregnancy? -

hiya, im 19 and i have pre existing hypertension. I am currently on the following meds; aspirin amlodipine bendroflumethiazide ramipril methyldopa bisoprolol candesartan labetalol My blood pressure is still not controlled very well usually around 180/120. I also have blood and protein in my urine, and have spent roughly 5 months in hospital in the last year. I have just found out i am pregnant, how will my medical history affect my pregnancy?

You need to contact the Dr who is treating your severe hypertension and let him know because those medications can negatively effect the fetus. They will probably need to admit you. Do they think that you might have a phenocomocytoma? It is a tumour of your adrenal gland that causes severe refractory hypertension. The pregnancy puts you at a higher risk of stroke so I suggest you start making phone calls today

Your pregnancy is at risk because of your high bp. Have a regular monthly check-up with your OB because your belong to a high risk category. You MAYBE belong to pre-eclampsia now and my suggestion is... dont wait till you develop ECLAMPSIA because it is a life-threatening stage and can lead you neurological problem or death. I m not trying to scare you but pregnant women with a very high blood pressure is one of the toxic case in the hospital. Try to regulate your bp by communicating to your OB regularly.

You might have to stop taking some of the meds- lay off the stress but by all means make a dr appt ASAP! There was a whole lot of meds I couldn t take when I went for my appt last week to get in the know on pregnancy. They checked my urine and took my blood and got my history. I didn t pay anything and I have insurance. Go to an ob/gyn and get the facts straight!

I m no doctor but in your condition, I believe that pregnancy will seriously jeopardize your health. Look up pre-eclampsia and eclampsia. Please see a doctor immediately.

the only thing i can think of is the effect all those meds could have on the baby

How can I find an insurance company that will cover gastric bypass surgery for my mother? -

To sum this up as briefly as I can: My mother, in just the last year, has become a medical disaster. A significant health-deteriorating weight gain being the main issue. Prior to that, besides being somewhat overweight, she was healthy as a horse. She developed pneumonia last year and was very sick for several months. She was placed on steroids that sky-rocketed her weight and in the months to follow subsequently developed asthma, hypertension, and now the last straw..diabetes. Her physical last week revealed that she has a polyp in her uterus with post-menopausal bleeding. She also has blood in her stools so she has to have a colonoscopy. Her diabetes is not high enough where she has to be put on meds yet so she will be seeing a diabetic educator to learn how to control with diet and also check her blood sugars. The frustrating part in all of this is that we just lost my dad to cancer 1 1/2 yrs ago, so instead of being on a Group Ins policy, she is now on a Single policy. She weighs gt;300 lbs at 5 5quot; and has tried diet and (to her capability), exercise. She is an excellent candidate for a gastric bypass surgery, however this insurance company will not cover her since she is on a Single policy (which baffles me, because they would cover her if she was on their Group). She is a medical wreck....it pisses me off because her insurance will not pay for the surgery, but they will pay for ALL of these medical expenses that are a primary reflection of her weight. Can anyone tell me if there is an insurance company out there that would cover a gastric bypass surgery for my mother (on a single policy)? I don t want to lose another parent. She is only 57 years old.

Most health insurance plans won t cover you for pre-existing conditions that you had when you signed up for the coverage. A better choice might be to have the procedure financed. Info on gastric bypass insurance: is also a link on that page which provides info on financing.

I m not sure about any of that sorry, but I do know one thing - Unless the person is overweight for 5 years or has a history for that 5 years with doctors you can t actually get the surgery. They even state it on the bypass websites.

Some county hospitals have weight clinics and they go by income and your ability to pay. It might be worth looking into. It takes a while to get into these clinics but it is worth the wait. Each hospitals have their own criteria to get into these clinics. Good Luck

My ins company won t cover it UNLESS it s a medical neccessity...had a co-worer who wanted it done...called the ins co and they said if you could have your Dr. submit a request because it s medically neccessary than chances are they would...

You could always try getting the surgery in Mexico. I am not kidding. There are lots of resources out there for how to get there, payment options, etc. Much cheaper than paying without insurance in the US. The important question is: does SHE want GBS? If she is not willing to do all that is required, which is a LOT of supplementation and diet control, it could end up with disastrous results. She also has to be healthy enough to survive the surgery.

If your dad was in the military or government service at any time while married to your mom, she is qualified to become a member of USAA (United Services Auto Association). In addition to car insurance, they have home, health and life insurance policies, as well as banking services through USAA Federal Savings Bank. I have been a member since 1977 and have never been disappointed in their service. You can go to their website for more information: www.usaa.com I m not sure what their health coverage would be, since I haven t had the need for it, but I do know that they have policies for it. I do have home and car insurance and their banking services as well as discounts for things like ADT home security services.

This may help you . I would appeal the decision on behalf of the insurance company. I swear they come up with lots of crap never to pay out even though one pays in for years on this stuff. You don t have to take no for an answer. Your doctor can deem it medically necessary. If not, they are going to have to pay the long term effects on her health and it will exceed the price of barriatric surgery, so some reall threat for them! Also if you should have to find something more affordable, You might want to consdier Mexico for surgery. A lot of people go there for half of the price to have it done. I knew someone who did this. I unfortunately don t have the source handy, but I am sure you could do a search and find it. Best wishes for your mom. I know how she feels. I need to make some decisions too. http://www.ehow.com/how_2056164_know-ins...

High blood pressure, low sodium diet? -

Monday, I was told I had hypertension...I knew that already bc I had been taking it myself with a conventional cuff in dental school. My BP Monday was 166/98. I am 27 and not overweight, so my MD suggested cutting out some of the sodium and caffeine. I have been strictly following a low sodium diet for only 3 days now... Mon, Tue, Wed and my BP went from 166/98 Mon to 160/94 Tue, to 156/94 Wed, to 135/92 today... IS THIS A MISTAKE? Can 3 days on a low sodium diet make this big of a difference? I took my BP 5 times... kept reading the same # so now I m going to Target Pharmacy to confirm. Is this possible so soon?

As Kacey mentioned, your own blood pressure reading might have been lower because you probably felt calmer than in a medical setting, but you definitely are on the right track by following your sodium and caffeine reduction. I wanted to share a helpful link with you for the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute where you can get a booklet with very helpful tips and recipes: luck with your start to a healthier you.

Cut down on the animal fat too.

boar s head has low sodium lunch meat endorsed by the heart association.... very tasty! i have high blood pressure (i m 30) as well and i eat lots of salmon and tilapia filled with omega 3 for high blood pressure also do a lot of weight training cardio mt biking and walking dogs to assist best regards

Well I am assuming you were taking it yourself? You were probably much calmer than when you went to your doctor s office. Even though you may not have been nervous while at the doctor s, it sounds like you knew your BP was high and the high BP conversation was going to come up and you were anticipating it. That may have affected your blood pressure that day. Your blood pressures that you took on Tue and Wed are still high. There isn t much difference in them really. Your diastolic number has pretty much remained the same. But keep up the diet and you should see results. I think the american heart association has some useful information. You can track your blood pressure and stuff on their website.

Home blood pressure kits? -

Can anyone recommend a good kit for a guy with large arms? I want to track it as hypertension runs in the family, but I lift weights, and have arms that are larger than normal. Last time I was at the Dr, the nurse nearly had a coronary after taking my BP, saying I should not even be alive. The Dr. came in, put on a bigger cuff, and tested as a little high.

If you put home blood pressure kits into the yahoo search for questions box you will find there are about 20 results for this. I am hoping that you will find all the information about these in there. Regards. b

A cry for Help!!? -

This is serious, so no idiots please. My dear wife has anxsiety problems which create hypertension and severe miuscle body pains. Young people will not understand this. Difficult to handle for them, but, I was young too! All genuine help will be very much appreciated,

What is your health insurance situation? That s definitely a factor. Start with: have her explain this to her regular physician. Yes, I know it s uncomfortable, but she has to start somewhere. you cannot do this for her. (you may be able to call the MD, explain the problem and make the appointment, but that s as far as YOU can help her.) He could possibly prescribe an anti-anxiety drug (which is what she needs to try). If not, he may refer her to a psychological doctor for his/her opinion. Either way, beginning the process is the hardest part. It ll all flow from there. Best of luck to you both!

A psychologist or anti-anxiety medication might be of help. Some other things that help with anxiety attacks are to try to get a decent amount of sleep, about 8 hours if possible, and maintaining a healthy diet. For some individuals, things like caffeine or other food ingredients can cause anxiety, depression, and other problems. Like someone else said, yoga and exercise help with anxiety. Something else that might help is to give her a notebook or journal in which she can write about things that are making her anxious, and get them off her chest. Sometimes that works a bit, but sometimes you don t know what causes the anxiety problems. In my situation, I went to a psychologist for a few months, and over time I guess I just got used to having the anxiety around and realized that it really wasn t that incredibly awful if you just try to remain calm and relaxed, despite feeling panicky or whatever. For me, it just helps if I lay down and listen to music, or if I feel really hyper like I m going crazy, I try to pace around and walk it off. Best of luck.

sounds like your wife needs some serious professional help. there are many relaxation techniques that may assist her as well. an old boyfriend of mine had anxiety attacks and found that deep breathing and putting your self in a quot;Happy Placequot; helped. but he was also seeing a dr at the same time. good luck

My wife had the same problem. There are many drugs on the market but each has its own side effect.Apart from being a loving understanding husband have you thought about taking her to a professional. They will be able to get to the root of the problem.

What are the side effects of getting of thyroid medicine. I had hypothyroid after my hysterectomy.? -

My dr had me taken asthma medicine, thyroid, sleeping pills hypertension meds and hormone therapy. I gained over 40lbs in 2 weeks after I started this cocktail. After I stopped taking these meds, I started to loose weight. I ve started a diet and vit program based on my own research. I went from a size 4 to a 10. Can some one help me find the right Information.I have no desire to take all those meds.

Thyroid medicine just replaces the hormones that your thyroid used to produce, it should have no side effects.

Is 124/66 a normal blood pressure? -

I m 19 years old, about 5 6quot; and weigh about 125 pounds. I just recently checked it out of curiousity and wanted to know how I stand against any type of high blood pressure or hypertension.

Your blood pressure is just fine. 120/80 is considered quot;textbook averagequot;... but there s a fairly wide range of what is considered a normal blood pressure.

Yes this is an excellant blood pressure

120/80 is the norm but there is a range, if you are very athletic then normally the lower number is lower. if you are healthy and have no problems then yes this is ok. if you are having problems like passing out or such then see a doctor. too low of blood pressure can be as dangerous as too high.

Yes it is definitely a normal blood pressure.

Yes sir, the normal reading would be under 120/80. So that makes you pretty damn good. First level of high blood pressure is 140/90 and under 100/60 is getting dangerously low.

yup you are in good range

To be honest you are also have a perfect blood pressure and normal blood pressure for your age is 120/80 so you are fine don t worry. Now if your blood pressure was like160/100 then you are consider to have hypertension so just relax.

I have a strange chest pain for 2 months now. My doctor cant seem to diagnose it. Anyone can give me an idea? -

It s a sharp pain, sometimes, burning that happens on specific points on my chest that I can pinpoint by pressing. My ECG reads ok (read twice), my echo indicated I only have mitral valve prolapse, my chest xray indicated everything normal. I even had a troponin test done which turned out negative for troponin elevation. My CBC all registered normal. My doctor suggests that its probably muscular but did not prescribe anything. This chronic pain started as one sharp pain in my left chest area below the breast which caused me to have a slight fever for 13 days. I also experienced shortness of breath and general body weakness. All these other symptoms are gone except for this chest pain. I have hypertension (although it seems under control as Im hitting 120/70), my cholesterol is elevated and am on medication (losartan, aspirin and simvastatin). I ve had an appendectomy before which got complicated with intestinal obstruction. I m 37 and male. Anyone can give me an idea?

Did you know gas pains can resemble a chest pain? Notice where the rib cage is located and take it to the back of your back and locate the shoulder blades. If the pain is in that general area you re experiencing gas pains. It means you need more fiber. You need to let gas out. I was told this when I was in the hospital recovering from a Hysterectomy. I had this constant sharp pain around my chest. It would shoot through my back and give me such discomfort. The nurse told me that its gas. I needed to massage that area to relieve some of the gas and it came out. Remember your body has thousands of tiny muslces that connect and when is aggriated than the rest will be. It all tests are negative than it has to do with stress or gas pains. Next time you eat watch how much gas forms and where it leads to and see if its in the same area. The best thing to do is drink plenty of water to flush it out. Of course, with high blood pressure isn t a good indicator but doing light stretches while you re sitting or standing will help some of the pain. While you re at work I would suggest stretch until you feel loose or stretch for about 5 minutes each day or during the entire day. Stretching wakes up all those tensed muscles and builds up your energy. Keeps your pulse at a normal rate and gives your body lots of oxygen to ciruclate. I hope this helps some. Doesn t hurt to try it out. Anything is possible to relieve the discomfort. I do it all the time. I am chronic depressed and stressed so I know what I am speaking of. Hope you re feeling better.

Id get your electrolytes checked, its probably a potassium difficiency causing that

What is the best cure for tinnutis? -

patient has hypertension and anxiety, and the tennutis came about as a reaction to gentomycin

From what I have heard there isnt a cure for it..I used to have the same problem with tinnutis, the chiropractor helped me..The theory is a neck out of alignment presses on nerves that go to the ears. People with anxiety tend to pop their back out of alignment alot..The chiropractor is worth a try.. Here are some other tips: Cut back on or eliminate alcohol and beverages containing caffeine. Stop smoking and using smokeless tobacco products. Nicotine use may cause tinnitus by reducing blood flow to the structures of the ear. For more information, see the topic Quitting Tobacco Use. Exercise regularly. Exercise may prevent tinnitus because it improves blood flow to the structures of the ear. For more information, see the topic Fitness. Maintain a healthy weight. Tinnitus occurs more frequently in obese adults. For more information, see the topic Healthy Weight. Add sources of vitamin B12 to your diet. Vitamin B12 helps the body produce a substance that protects the nerves in the inner ear, and some think it protects against tinnitus. Good sources of vitamin B12 include milk and dairy products, meat, and eggs.

It depends on what is causing it.

Serious Blood Pressure Problem? -

I m a 19-year old male. I am a runner and I am in good shape. 5 11quot;, 150 pounds, 11% body fat. I eat a healthy diet (with a fair amount of junk food on top of the nutrients). My parents both have LOW blood pressure (110/70-ish). My blood pressure is always high. Between 160/85 and 130/60 depending on the day. I ve googled quot;isolated systolic hypertensionquot; and it seems to be the only thing I can find. I have sleep apnea as well. What could be wrong with me? The doctor says I m fine but I dont think I am. Please, please give me some advice or information. Not just quot;see a doctorquot; because I ve already done that. Thank you.

Well the good news is your pressures is not too bad high! But it is kinda scary when you have high blood pressure. The first thing is try not to stress too much about it because that will only make your BP worst (easier said than done I know). The second thing I would suggest is since you mentioned you have sleep apnea try using one of those c-pap machines at night....mention it to your doctor or go to one of those medical supply stores. Your pressures could go down after you use the c-pap since sleep apnea can cause high blood pressure. It sounds like your lifestyle is great with the exercise but maybe try to modify your diet a little. Try not to add salt to your food (use something like Ms. Dash....it is really good also) and try to stay away from frozen foods which tend to have lots of sodium to preserve it. And when you go to buy foods look for a the brand with lower sodium. But don t get discouraged if your pressures stay up.....sometimes it is nothing your are doing but it just happens. Good luck!

Your sleep apnea may cause your BP to be elevated esp. in the morning. Are you watching your sodium intake?

What is causing moms swollen cheek? -

she said that this morning she looked normal then by noon she noticed that her right lower cheek is swollen. what is that? b4, the end of her left brow was swollen as well as her upper left cheek. whats causing it? stress?? allergy?? hypertension??

She s having some reaction to something - or perhaps bells palsy (more drooping then swelling) I suggest she see an MD - (take a benadryl for the reaction) and be sure to follow up - if it s a dental issue (Yes her roots are in the sinus area and can head to the eyes) the MD can reassure her and send her where she needs to be. Trust us, it s safer then advice from the net. She d have to have her blood pressure taken if it was high- how is her fluid intake - (drink water) -

Maybe sinus problems or a tooth infection. Poor girl.

It could be spider bites.

tooth problem??? is she taking corticosteroids?? one of its side effect is moon face...

SOUNDS LIKE IT CAN BE A FEW THINGS, IT CAN BE EITHER ALLERGIES OF SOME SORT, OR POSSIBLY BELLS PALSY....TELL HER TO SEE A DOC IMMEDIATELY TO RESOLVE THE SWELLING GOOD LUCK

it sounds like some sort of an allergy she needs to go to the doctor.

Sounds like she needs to go to the doctor. She could have a problem with her teeth or something, but she should be evaluated to see if it s something serious.

Drop 4 sizes (in a HEALTHY way)? -

help! i m rapidly reaching a jean size that can t be found in most regular stores, and that makes me nervous. i ve also gt a family history of hypertension so despite my youth, i m worried. i need to lose 40 pounds to be at the healthy weight for my age and height. the only problem is, i m on extremely tight schedule at the moment. between school, extracurriculars, a job, and family obligations, i ve got maybe 30 minutes a day or less to exercise. i would like to lose the weight by next april in a way that s health and effective. does anyone have diet and exercise tips for a busy busy girl?

The only thing I could add to what Precious had to say, is drink water, lots and lots and lots of water. I lost about 30 pounds one summer by giving up soda, drinking 8 - 12 cups of water EVERY day, and watching my portion sizes. such as one portion of meat is equal to the size of a deck of cards or about half of a chicken breast. Also I lost a lot more weight when I switched from 2% down to 1% milk. Here are some links for correct portion control. href="rel="nofollow">href="rel="nofollow">href="rel="nofollow">http://www.cookinglight.com/cooking/hl/n...

I m in the same boat! I got down to normal plus sizes(size 16) then I got preggers and I m back to square one.The way I lost beforewas eating mostly veggies,no candy, soda, working out 30 minutes a day.I haven t started up again because I feel so discouraged..But I plan to.Diet makes most the difference.Just start little..cut out all things that have processed sugar in them(soda, juice, candy anything really sweet)..that stuff is liquid fat!...Then cut out all grease and instant foods..so on and so forth..

Easiest way to lose weight fast and safely is to cut your calorie intake by eating more on fiber, fruits and vegetables. You ll feel full with fewer calories on them. Fruits, vegetables and fibers are packed with nutrients but less on calories. I lost 10 pounds in just 2 months using these tips. Here are Tips to help speed up your metabolism plus help you lose weight without being miserable. they worked for me =) quot;Taking the time to relax and savor food increases calorie and fat-burning power by up to 30%quot;, mainstains Marc David, author of The Slow Down Diet( Healing Arts Press, 2005). The reason: Savoring stimulates the cephalic phase digestive response, or quot;brain phasequot; of digestion, which then sets up a slimming chain of events. First, it signals the hypothalamus, the brain s emotion-and-appetite-control center, to trigger the release of the metabolism-reviving thyroid hormone and the pleasure neurochemical cholecystokinin (CCK). In turn, CCK hinders production of the stress hormone cortisol, a known cause of fat accumulation. 1. Outsmart Snack Attacks for 4 hours and Lose Weight Savoring Berries can oustmart snack attacks for 4 hours and help you shed 5% of your body weight in 6 months. The credit goes to dozens of blood sugar stabilizing antioxidants. Bluberries are so packed with them, just a half cup daily can boost your blood levels by 100%. 2. Fill up on Fiber and Lose Weight Fast Fill up on Fiber - Foods rich in fiber will make you feel satisfied and help curb your appetite, helping you to lose weight fast and safely - so make sure to pack your diet with fruits, vegetables and whole grains. 3. Boost fat-burning metabolic rate by 50% by sipping coffee Sipping coffee before a meal can supress appetite by 35%, plus boost fat-burning metabolic rate by 50%, according to extensive research at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. The study-proven dose : 250 mg of caffeine daily, taken either in supplement form or by sipping to cups of coffee or 4 cups of tea. 4. Lose Weight just by eating Yogurt Yogurt is a calcium-rich food. Research links calcium with lower cortisol production, and it has been proven that women who increase they re intake lose up to 40% more weight than calcium avoiders. Plus Yogurt has live microorganisms which helps proper digetion and absorption of nutrients we take. Make sure to get yogurts that says quot;with live microorganisms in labels/packagesquot;. 5. Try this Hunger-Taming Trick Cut fat and you ll cut cravings. Consuming a high-fat diet may supress your body s natural satiety signals, according to a new study from Pennsylvania State University. Animals who d been consuming a diet rich in fat ended up eating 40% more of a high-calorie snack than those on average diets. Keep your fat intake to less than 30% of total calories. 6. Feel full on less food. Apples are rich in pectin, a soluble fiber that slows the digestive process, so you ll feel full on less food. The result: You ll eat just enough food to make you happy, reducing calorie intake. 7. Studies suggest people pursuing a healthy weight could lose more weight and burn more fat by including 24 ounces a day of low fat or fat-free milk in their reduced-calorie diet, instead of 8 ounces or less. 8. Speed fat burn with Cranberries. The ascorbic acid in cranberries helps thin liver bile, making it easier for the organ to emulsify fat so so it can be quickly flushed out of the system rather than stored in cells. 9. Boost your protein intake and lose almost a pound a week without hunger. You can try protein smoothies. Packed with nutrients and low in calories, smoothies are a fast, easy and great tasting way to achieve good health. You can find a wide collection of healthy fruit smoothies at : boosting your protein intake from the typical 15% of total calories to 30%, you may be able to cut your daily calorie intake by 440-enough to lose almost a pound a week without hunger, according to a recent University of Washigton study. quot;A high-protein diet appears to fool the brain into thinking you ve eaten more than you have, quot; says the study s lead author, Scott Weigle, M.D., a professor of endocrinology at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Stick with lean protein rather than high-fat, artery clogging meat and dairy products. For breakfast, use low-fat milk instead of water in your oatmeal and sprinkle nuts on top. Eat plenty of beans, fish and skinless chicken breast. 10. To counteract a binge, keep your body s fat-burning furnace running on full blast by drinking Green Tea. Green Tea contains caffeine and the antioxidant epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) , which is proven to boost metabolic rate. In fact, in a recent 3 month study, participants who took Green Tea extract lost 4.6% of their body weight without changing their diet. To get the benefit, drink at least 3 cups a day. Whenever I ate too much, I just drink green tea and I don t have to worry gaining weight. 11. Speed weight loss and double energy levels by eating Coconuts. This tropical treats contain medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs), a unique fat that is shuttled straight to the liver and immediately burned for fuel. Research shows this little detour revs metabolic rate by up to 50%, speeding weight loss and doubling energy levels Plus my favorite tip : Before you eat, drink a glass of water. This will help you feel fuller without additional calories (water has no calories). And Satisfy sweet cravings and keep your stomach full longer by eating all-natural fruits. Help with finding doctor for diabetic...please.? -

my friend was diagnosed with diabetes last year along with hypertension, hypothyroidism, plus quot;femalequot; problems. the problem is that the jobs around our area don t offer health insurance. she keeps getting sicker by the day and i have no clue about what to do. if anyone out there can help, i would appreciate you greatly.

If your friend is unwilling to educate herself on the subject, I guess you ll have to. Managing all those problems is not that difficult when armed with the right information. Just go to the link below, read it, get the quot;Diabetes Improvement Programquot; book, and help her start living a healthy life. http://www.geocities.com/seabulls69/Type...

If you contact the Nevada Diabetes Association at ndaca@diabetesnv.org and tell them what city, state, and or country your friend lives in, they may be able to track down doctors and programs that can help.

SHE NEEDS TO SEE AN ENDOCRINOLOGIST FOR MOST PROBLEMS AND A GYNECOLOGIST FOR THE FEMALE THINGS. OTHERWISE AN INTERNIST MAY HELP HER WITH MOST THINGS.

you local health dept can help you out...it s in the phone book They may have a list of free clinics or services...

Im on a slew of drugs for my moods - read gt;gt;? -

I have never openly spoke about this so bear with me. My family has a history of OCD, Anxiety, Depression, hypertension, ADD, This may be just a stream of conscious - so try to put it together :-P. By the way, I believe in medicine and I am not looking for a quot;drop off of your meds and do thisquot; solution, thanks! I was prescribed Lexapro and cymbalta for my OCD, depression and anxiety I am taking provigil for ADHD and constant tiredness. There are times where I feel amazing - there are times where I feel like I have to keep my mind occupied and constantly be doing things -- Sometimes (not always) when I have coffee on top of these it makes me feel great, i.e. I feel great, no shame, don t beat up myself, no OCD So I began taking caffeine pills in the mornings and for the first day it was great - then the second day and beyond it didnt help any more so i stopped about a week in, and coffee doesn t always do this. Basically, does this make sense? Anyone else like this? Thoughts?

It sounds to me that ADHD is a larger problem for you than you think, you said: quot; There are times where I feel amazing - there are times where I feel like I have to keep my mind occupied and constantly be doing thingsquot; Classic ADHD, Caffeine sometimes helps this and your on Meds. I would talk to the doctor and see if your ADHD meds need to be adjusted. I feel like that alot and Caffeine will help me most of the time, I m no longer on any ADHD meds as I don t see much cahnge in myself on them, I know I need to find the right ones but I just don t have the time or inclanation. I have found non medicinal methods that help. and Caffeine is #1 on that list. anyway my advise is to check with your doctor and see about adjusting your meds.

I wouldn t think too far into the caffiene issue. Because of the meds you are taking, you shouldn t expect caffiene or many other things to effect you in the same way it does to people who aren t on meds. Don t feel ashamed that you are on medications, becuause it is a LOT more common that you might know. But Please do remember that you can t rely on your medications alone to help you manage your mental health. If it helps, it s ok to come up with a simple routine for each day. ( be sure to incorporate a specific time to take your medications each day.) Also, if you are not seeing and individual counselor, I would recommend giving it a try. Often, they can offer the best insight on ways to balance your medications and personal attempts to maintain your anxiety and live a healthy lifestyle. It s not easy, but you don t have to be a victim of your diagnosis. Just think of having that diagnosis as having an advantage over your mental health, becuase you know what you are working with.

Its really important that you have this conversation with your doctor. Most doctors today have awareness of the chemistry of the body and can adjust the combination of your medication until it serves you on an ongoing basis. Self medication almost never works.

Or you in a really good conversation with someone on the internet or playing a good game. BUT you have to physically pull yourself up. Start doing whatever it is you planned to do when you arrived at home. I know my self I don t want to get up right away but I do and once I m up and start whatever is it I intended to I start to get some energy and actually want to do the task. After a while it becomes routine for you to go home take a small break and jump right into whatever it is you wish to do. Although You have to make yourself do it. Laziness can be a hard thing to over come but you have to have the drive and the will power to get your butt up and start moving. I wish you the best of luck!

Masturbation/sex/high blood pressure? -

i masturbate about 2 times a day and have sex a few times a month does anyone know if too much masturbation or sex can cause high blood pressure or if its safe to do both with high blood pressure i just got told i have very mild hypertension 150/62 and i wasn t sure if masturbating caused it or its ok to still do it or have sex because i know lifting weights can cause and is bad for hypertension and its because of the heightened blood pressure so i thought maybe it was similar for sex

No...it doesn t cause it or many men and women would be in the same boat as you.....just watch your salt intake and don t lift more than your own weight some people think that it helps tighten your muscles and it only builds muscle to make you more muscular and masculine looking which for a lady is not attractive to some men.

you don t masturbate frequently enough to cause the blood pressure issues, sorry. you d have to go at it at least 5-6 times per day, to even consider it as being too much.

no no nothing even the figures u put is okay is just maybe u went tired.... Anyways lifting weight more than what a body can take can make ur blood pressure high but not 2 times sex no way

Do I have high blood pressure or something else? -

Ok, this is going to sound a little weird but I have to ask it. I have had issues with my sinuses for a very long period of time. I currently get allergy shots, take Singulair and Flonase and on occasion take Claritin when I have a really bad time. Right now, I am again suffering with sinus issues (pressure, headache, dizziness, etc.) but something weird happens when I eat. When I have lunch and usually only at lunch time, after eating I feel light headed, my heart rate increases and I feel dizzier. I m not sure if it s because my sinuses are all jacked up or if I am actually developing high blood pressure. In the last 5 years both the diastolic and systolic numbers have increased to where it could be pre-hypertension but every time I ve had my blood pressure taken, it s been after I ve rushed so I don t know how accurate that is. Anyway, I don t know if or how the two are related but I am interested to know if anyone has the dizzy symptoms after eating. Any help is appreciated.

i hope your not taking singular and claritin at the same time , you could be over dosing yourself. i don t know much about high blood pressure, but if your heart is racing do to a rush to get to Dr. your pressure will be higher. i don t know if you smoke or not but your blood pressure will be higher right after smoking. it is always best to take your blood pressure when you are calm. Dizziness could just be from pressure do to your sinus. Is the Flonase a spray? I have heard that spray s cause more problems. You could also be dehydrated as well cause that always causes dizziness. I have low blood pressure and i m always dizzy!! Are you having any vision problems?

I take norvasc and I get low diastolic readings of 50 through 65is that too low? -

I have white coat hypertension and take Norvasc for it and my systolic numbers are in the teens but my diastolci is in the low 50quot;s to 65 range it that too low?

As long as you feel OK this is not too low. Lower blood pressure will help prevent your risk of stroke, heart attack and kidney disease in the future. If you feel lightheaded, dizzy or very fatigued, then your pressure may be too low. If that is the case you should tell your doctor.

Normal values of blood pressure Normal ranges for blood pressure in adult humans are: * Systolic between 90 and 135 mm Hg (or 90 and 135 Torr, 12 to 18 kPa) * Diastolic between 50 and 90 mm Hg (or 50 and 90 Torr, 7 to 12 kPa) No, it s still within the normal range but at the lower side. You can check with your doctor for more detail. Check your BP device with your doctor to make sure it give you the correct reading. Did you take any nutritional supplement to help to maintaine your B/P? I do have some alternative medication (nutritional supplement amp; therapies) may help to prevention and maintaining good health. It s safe and natural. you can email or call me to know more. There were people with serious problem (Hepatitis, Diabetics, high blood pressure and ..... ) get cure after taking the nutritional supplement amp; therapies that i have. I hope i can help you and bring good health to everyone. You are welcome to my office to have a free medical check up. My email is victor_wongkokleong83@yahoo.com I live in Singapore. My telephone number is +6590096831

Ask the doctor, moron.

gee how many miligrams of norvasc are we taking here? that s a tad low. talk to the doctor about this... tell him/her what your home readings are.

No. My B/P runs that low or lower all the time and I take no medications. The next time you go to Your Doctor let her/him know what readings you get and what you are using to take your B/P. You might take your B/P device with you to let your doctor see what you are using and possibly check it.

I dont know.

2.) A 63 year old male complains of a 6 month old history of difficulty voiding and feeling as though he cannot empty his bladder completely. What is diuretic therapy? -

effects of diuretic therapy to hypertension

Some effects of it would be The antihypertensive effect of diuretics is well documented. At least some preserved kidney function seems to be necessary to achieve a demonstrable effect. The importance of fluid volume reduction for the antihypertensive effect of these drugs during long-term treatment is however uncertain. The effects on central hemodynamics vary according to the literature, but the blood pressure reduction in responders (delta MAP greater than 10%) may primarily be explained by a reduction of the total peripheral vascular resistance. The peripheral circulation is influenced in the same way. Sometimes a flow reduction is observed, and sometimes a resistance reduction. In spite of a lasting blood pressure reduction after treatment with diuretics, the structural hypertensive vascular changes do not seem to be influenced. Hope that helps.

It lowers blood pressure by getting rid of the extra water in the bloodstream. The water leaves the blood, is processed by the kidneys, and is urinated out. With less fluid in the same veins, the blood pressure drops.

taking quot;water pillsquot; to promote frequent urination. keeps fluid from building up, lowers blood pressure. DANGER can cause electrolyte imbalance which can cause a heart attack, so be sure to take in a sufficient amount of potassium.

Hypo amp; Hyper - Tension ?? PLs help out? -

Is there any way out ... When my mom gets angry then she would right at that moment feel hot and would turn on a/c,,,fan to higher level amp; when she is tensed abt smth or unhappy then she would feel cold ... I guess she have Hypertension amp; Hypotension (Both).... It s been some time ago that she had took Chinese Medicine amp; right after that she have been suffering from Either feeling too hot or cold... amp; her mens also stopped after that ...So is there anyway out to recover from this..please help .....

sounds to me like menopause. if you mean her period stopped by her quot;mensquot; that would also explain the hot and cold flashes

If it s your mother and her menses stopped, I would most likely think that her symptoms would be associated with menopause, but temperture intolerances can also be associated with thyroid disorders or disorders of the hypothalamus. She should see a doctor. He could run some blood tests for her thyroid, such as hypothyroidism, which can cause you to feel colder than usual, but if you have Hashimotos thyroiditis, it could be a mixture. Most likely, it is from menopause. It would be good to know what Chinese Medicine your mother took. Some herbs can help you, but others can be harmful and some are only harmful if taken in excess. Hypotension and Hypertension are terms related to a person s blood pressure being either abnormally low or high and do not refer to feeling extra hot or cold.

First of all, If I were you I would check to see if it s actually hypotension and/or hypertension. And if it is you should probably try to avoid the cause of it or see a doctor if it is potentially harmful. Your mom could also eat better (if not already) to get healthier and more stable blood pressure. But, it s probably not that serious. I tend to heat up whenever I get angry too.
