In need of a good differential for hypertension? -

My sister developed hypertension during her second pregnancy. It went away after delivery. A series of events led to another pregnancy shortly after. The children are a couple days short of a year apart. My sister also developed hypertension during this subsequent pregnancy, however it was much higher and did not respond to treatment well until tripleing the dose. The hypertension since delivery is on and off. It has been severe she was negative for preclampsia. Does anyone have a descent differential?

She could have had HELLP: hypertension, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelets. It is a serious complication of pregnancy that requires deilvery. As far as the reason for the hypertension continuing, things like HELLP and preeclampsia are likely within 6 weeks after delivery. Good luck

When a preeclampsia has been ruled out as the cause for the hypertension, it may be treated as a primary or essential hypertension after ruling out any renal causes. A detailed examination and investigation is required to assess the degree of the hypertension and whether any element of a malignant hypertension is involved etc.,. However as an immediate measure, as soon as a hypertension is diagnosed it requires an immediate treatment to bring it down to normal levels irrespective of further diagnosis. You may please consult your doctor immediately for necessary examination and treatment.
