140 systolic / 75 Diastolic / 55 Pulse? -

I am 21 years old, 160 pounds, I cycle 3 times a week totaling 80-100 miles on a regular basis, get about 7-9 hours of sleep per night, I don t smoke or use drugs. I live a very active lifestyle. I recently used a blood pressure reader at the store and come to find this reading claims I am stage 1 hypertension. I know that nervousness could of affected this reading but I got multiple readings, and they were all around the same. Has anyone had such a similar occurrence, and what has been the result if sought treatment? I appreciate any input.

Ask your doctor. Your diastolic is slightly low, nothing to be alarmed of at all, but your systolic is high. 140 is high blood pressure range. Try it again when you are rested and not nervous at the pharmacy, those automated ones. If you don t wanna go to a doctor. Your diastolic shouldn t be so high if you re in good shape. 120 is normal systolic. 130 is ok, anything above 135 I would get a check up. You should do a cholestoral check too. You fast for 12 hours. (Not eat). So do an early morning apt. at the docs. So you can go before breakfast. That will also make it easier to detirmine exactly what could be going on with you. But those numbers arent normal. If you weren t in the middle of running, and just walked in to get your pressure checked, they shouldn t have read like that. You would have to be really nervous.

Your nervousness, or lack of rest is contributing to your high blood pressure reading. It is officially known as white coat hypertension . Look it up on the internet. If you took the BP reading at home, I m absolutely sure it would be lower. Also, you need to rest for up to 10 minutes before taking a reading, before it could be considered to be accurate.

Blood pressure varies naturally throughout the day. Considering your age, weight and lifestyle constitute low cardiovascular risk factors, check your blood pressure again elsewhere over a period of time. If the systolic is consistently high, see your doctor. Otherwise, it s just a normal blip.

140/75 BP reading does say that u are mildly hypertensive. and hypertension is genetically linked, so it does not matter whether u have a active lifestyle or not, but it does help prevent it. . just go to ur doctor and have it diagnosed properly coz it also seems kinda odd coz ur still too young to have hypertension
