Technically, preeclampsia/eclampsia doesn t actually cause hypertension, pregnancy does. (in the case of pregnancy-induced hypertension, as its name suggests). It s etiology is unclear, but some studies suggest that it is caused by substances released by the placenta, which affects the blood vessels, and thus, blood pressure. These substances cause vasoconstriction, meaning, the vessels contract, decreasing the area of blood flow, and increasing the pressure within.
you have it the wrong way round, hypertension causes pre eclampsia
do they cause it or are they the names for hypertension when you are pregnant
