It s a good idea to try to find the root cause of your hypertension. The medications can be hard on anyone over time! I recommend asking this question of the Yahoo! bloodpressureline group. The group is run by a doctor who specializes in hypertension, so your concerns would be right up his alley. I also agree that monitoring your BP at home is a good idea. Digital BP cuffs are very reasonably priced nowadays, and more than worth the investment. How else will you know what tends to increase your BP? Good luck!
There are many reasons for high bp. I am fit eat well but had bp of 220/130 ish until i was started on meds. It turned out that i have Iga nepthropathy. bloods all normal.
My logical guess would be that you still have that adrenal tumor somewhere especially with your panic attacks. This condition is Pheochromocytoma and adrenals are the most common site for it. However, sometimes these tumors can be found at some wierd locations too, like close to major blood vessels and can be missed on CT in early stages. See a doc. You dont need to take meds for your BP if its still due to pheos.
Consume less animal fat and caffeine.
im the same way when being put on the spot.. i am not sure if my bp goes up or not, but it probably does.. the drs diagnosed me with anti-social personality disorder (but this was more because of my anxiety in public places) it could very well be a type of anxiety.. ask your dr about that! good luck!
You should monitor your blood pressure at home if you suspect that you have white coat hypertension. Its not uncommon though to be fairly fit, have no risk factors and still have hypertension.
