Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension in Pregnancy (or PTC)? -

I recently found out I am pregnant after almost a year of trying. I also have PTC, diagnosed about 4 months ago via spinal tap. It has been under control with Diamox. I have stopped my meds until I see my dotor in a few days as Diamox is Catagory C. Does anyone have experience with PTC and pregnancy? I have had one prior healthy to term pregnancy and delivery (c-section) before being diagnosed although I believe that I did suffer from this then as well. I am going to try to keep weight gain down big time, but I am worried about going blind from this. Can anyone reassure me?

Hi According to the research I did on IIH, the two major concerns in pregnancy is the maintains of vision acuity for yourself and the health of the baby. You need to be followed by an obstetrician who will also work with a neurologist to monitor the fluid levels and may require a tap - method of removing spinal fluid to decrease the pressure on the nerves in the brain. You should also be under the care of a dietician so your weight can be closely monitored. Continue exercising, walking, to keep your weight gain to about 2lbs a month, which should all be baby growth. Take care Pam

your OB will reassure you.
