Bloodpressure...............................? -

I ve got 150/90 readings both times at my GP panning between 2 months. But i ve just got myself a blood pressure monitor cuff wrist and i got a reading of around 110+/60+ on multiple tried. So.... is my monitor inaccurate or do i have white coat hypertension?...lolol i do feel funny going doctor.

is your gp still monitoring your b/p? mine did over a certain period of time i had to go fortnightly to be sure that it wasn t white coat syndrome which is quite common. make a note of your b/p readings and at what time you take it and try to do it the same time every time and take these with you next time you go i monitor mine at home but to be honest i d go with my gp after all they are trained better than me

Probably both! The blood pressure monitors that you can buy (particularly the ones that are electronic and fit around the writst) are notoriously innacurate. Particularly if the same reading keeps coming up if you do it over and over again when checking. It is very common for blood pressure to rise when you are in a doctor s office or a hospital. People are stressed and worry about the resulting reading and PRESTO! Worry and stress cause blood pressure to go up. The reading is not terrible at the doctors. She/He is aware. Listen to their advice! And don t take your BP with the machine more than once a week! Try taking the machine with you to the doctors and use it directly after they have done your blood pressure accurately. Compare the readings.

There is a growing consensus and two recent medical trials that suggest that the value of an office reading is to determine which patients should follow their blood pressure at home. The two units that have been used in studies are those which are placed on the upper arm: the Omron and the RelyOn. Unfortunately - we have no data on whether or not wrist monitors are accurate. In your home blood pressure readings are accurate and reproducible at a level of 110/060 mm Hg then you have nothing to worry about. I wish you the very best of health and may God Bless.

The next time that you go to the doctor, take your cuff monitor with you and test it against his. If it matches his readings then you have white coat hypertension. If it doesn t then it s your monitor.

Only one way to find out. Take your monitor to your doctor s office and have them compare it with theirs.
