6 year old d/with spontaneous pneumothorax..x ray shows distended lungs? -

surgeon is going to fix the spontaneous pneumothorax..however what does the distended lungs mean. She has an appointment with the cardiologist for an echocardiogram. She has had many before and last one showed pressure in the lungs was normal...however surgeon wants another one to measure pressure in the lungs. Her oxygen level is staying at 95 percent or higher...Does anyone know what this could be...I am making myself sick thinking about it. She is six but new doctor informed me that at birth they were very worrked that she has severe pulmonary hypertension..it resolved itself at 1 month of age due to the echo... what are the chances of it coming back and would her oxygen level be as high as it is if she truly had pulmonary hypertension that shows her lungs distended on a normal x ray.

well 95 percent oxygen level is great. So, shes not indicating any pulmonary disease. I don t why its a problem if shes not hyperventilating now. Was there a disease causing the pulmonary hypertension when she was a newborn? If it resolved on its own without antibiotic therapy when she was a newborn, then it may be a thyroid issue, autoimmune disease, or genetic disorder (if you or your spouse has lungs issues). Go get a full set of tests done. Cardiology appointment sounds like a start.
