Are most breakfast cereals dangerous junk food or healthy nutrition? -

A Consumers International study has recently found that breakfast cereals sold in Malaysia, China, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Thailand, and the Philippines contain up to 25g of sugar per 100g of cereal. This study has also found that many cereals are quot;laden with fat and saltquot;. Which can lead to obesity and hypertension. study makes me wonder if the consumption of such cereals is a big cause of pediatric obesity in USA and Europe too?

In some cases, the cereal BOX is more nutritious with milk poured onto it than the contents of said box

I read an article a while back about how people who eat breakfast cereals on a regular basis live longer. I don t have the article on hand, and I don t know how scientific it was, but they claimed that fortified cereals were the key, that the benefit from the extra vitamins and minerals outweighed the negative effects of the extra salt, fat and sugar. Obviously these people would get the same benefit from skipping the cereal and taking a good multivitamin, but many don t do that. Cereals could be a contributing factor to pediatric obesity in the US and Europe, but there are other things that contribute much more. Such as higher consumption of fast food and junk food in general. And more time spent sitting in front of the TV, computer or playing video games, meaning less physical activity.

There are a lot of quot;junk foodquot; cereals out there that target kids by putting cute cartoons on the box. If you look at the cereal aisle in your grocery store you will notice that the cereal with lots of sugar in them are on the middle and bottom shelves where kids see them. The companies of these cereals actually pay the stores the most money to have there products placed on these shelves since they are seen the most. The very top shelf in the cereal aisle has most of the healthy cereals.

If you want to know what the best cereal is you have to look at the contents of the box. Yesterday i was shocked at how much bad things were in cereal. The sugar alone is worst than a candy bar. But i was surprised that Total has the best source of Every Vitamin you can think of. The sugar is very low. But nothing in this world is all bad. if you do anything in moderations you can enjoy pretty much anything.

cereals are junk. the first cereals were created by doctors as a way to get ppl to get fiber. then was seen if adding massive amounts of sugar and cartoons to the box it could be sold to children. most food they feed us in america is crap anyway. eat fruit for breakfast. it sets you tone for the whole day.

According to new research by the uk food commission, a bowl of some cereals is similar in nutritional value to five chocolate chip cookies. So they really aren t a healthy way to start the day.

Cheerios aren t too bad, but I eat an organic cereal called Strawberry Promise from Kashi. Tastes great and it is healthy. I want someone to explain why any food should need either artificial coloring or flavoring. Shouldn t food look and taste like food?

yes more then likely u are right.. they are mostly junk filled with too much sugar, too many preservatives, too many carbs, and too much sodium.. milk is also not good for u either.. which u add to cereal... no good! junk food

Yeah thats why i dont like cereals, you can get your fiber from other sources too. They are high in calories and has too much sugar.

A lot of national brands are enriched with vitamins but loaded with sugar.

well ceral has alot of vitamins and minerals but to sell it they put way way way to much sugar in it which can be unhealthy

I don t eat breakfast food. I eat whatever appeals to me even leftovers
