Carotid mra vs carotid doppler ultrasound? -

mra came back with signs of signficant stenosis not more than 80% and irregular plaque formation doppler came back a-okay but possible hypertension one doctor says mra is gold standard the other says the doppler is gold standard and now one of them wants me to have a third test -mra with contrast -

To be blunt, we think that MRA of the carotids is virtually worthless. We ve seem numerous patients that were referred because of an abnormal carotid MRA. Ultrasound showed almost nothing. The true gold standard, at least amongst vascular surgeons is angiography. We use CT angiography regularly. Skip the MRA. Period. Ask for a CT angiogram, even if you have to travel for it.

You have went this far. You should finish it and see what is going on. Maybe you can avoid other health issues. I know that test are expensive and take time , but they can be life saving also.
