NEED OPTIONS, Had a stress test and now they want to do a angioploasty.? -

I do get tired quickly sometimes. Not bothered with Angina. maybe one or two nitros every 6-7 mos. hypertension w/ diabetes as of last Aug. as well as angio-edema and vasculitus and uticara. stable on 20 mg. prednisone. had a MI in 99 and a cabg. at that time. My problem now is that Baychol did a job on me as well as it seems if i can be allergic I will or if something can go wrong it will. So other than makeing sure I have good folks working on me. I dont want to be stented just because thats the thing today. Because after reading the stats of late probs.. etc I dont know the more I study the less I know..What should I ask. other options etc.just give me the whole ten yards.. thanx

I m going in this Monday for my sixth angioplasty. I currently have SEVEN stents. Thank God for this technology. I would have been dead 15 years ago. I ll never be off Plavix for as long as I live. Who cares? At least I can wake up each day, go to work, and enjoy my family.

a) you need the stent as angioplasty on its own without stent would have a much higher rate of failing. Discuss with your cardiologist the different stent options, if you are afraid of drug reactions discuss with him the option of a standard stent rather than a drug eluting one. If you decide against stent then you are going to need a further cabg. you could ask your cardiologist to discuss your case with your other speciality doctors to come up with the best option for you.

Only you know if you have symptoms that warrant extraordinary medical intervention.

Delay the procedure for 6 weeks and try this alternative. You will feel generally better from day 7, and if you feel less tired then your arteries are getting cleared naturally(the next test will show the improvement).Your sugar level will also be controlled. You need to help your body to build up your immune system. The breathing exercises - pranayam is a holistic approach creating extra oxygen supply in the body and will slowly help with the health problem.Do the pranayam to see the benefits.Build up your timing slowly and after two weeks at the suggested duration you will start to notice benefits. Bhastrika - Take a long deep breath into the lungs(chest not tummy) via the nose and then completely breathe out through the nose.Duration upto 5 minutes. Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for upto 30 minutes twice a day.(Max 60 min/day) Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently. Anulom Vilom - Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril then -keeping the left nostril closed deep breath-in through right nostril then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril. This is one cycle of anulom vilom. Repeat this cycle for 20 to 30 minutes twice a day(maximum 60 minutes in one day). You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed. Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close ears with thumb, index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes. Breathe in through nose. And now breathe out through nose while humming like a bee. Duration : 5 to 10 times ---- Only by doing you will benefit and will feel good that you can do something to help the body.Copy and print this to master the technique. This is simplified pranayam for everyone and you do not have to go to classes to learn. This is for life unlike short term classes where you do it in the class then stop when classes are over.

Well, the fact you have diabetes is the reason why you are allowed not to have typical angina and your shortness of breath is maybe all of the symptoms you will develop. Consequently, you were probably advised angioplasty with a reason. Besides, no one of us (meaning: doctors) is crazy about encountering more complications than the bare necessity. Therefore - if I were you - I d talk again with my Cardiologist, explain my fears (the whole Prednisone-related story) and ask if there was a chance of running some tests by the Allergologists in terms of short- and long-term dual anti-platelet therapy that you d be advised to take (meaning Aspirin + Plavix), to exclude potential allergies to Aspirin and Plavix. Once you have their opinion, you can re-talk with your Cardiologist and re-think the entire thing yourself. Good luck!
