Heart cath coming up...what should i expect before during and after? -

diagnosed with cardiomyopathy/congestive heart failure/hypertension...bp today 185/117...*average for last 10 years*...doc said he does not expect to find clogged arteries...if that is indeed the case, why the stage II hypertension all these years???...also...what is more likely, stroke or heart failure???

g`day mate, the doctor i presume is a specialist, what happens is they go up through the groin ,pain killers are administered before entry you will be able to watch on the screen,as they progress up to the heart, you may need a stent put in if there is a narrowing of the artery , but they will not do that until they complete their diagnosis, now the tricky part is when they cross the valve of the aorta if there is any sign of calcification ,this is when they will hit you with a heavy hit of blood thinning medication, because its the threat of a piece breaking off ,straight to the brain, stroke, but be reassured if they feel there`s a problem they will not go in,it`s not worth the risk, the risk of heart failure ? not a chance ,it doesn`t work that way ,I have had 3 of these procedures, honestly you are in good hands,i think you are worrying for no real reason ,these doctors do this 3-4 times a day ,these are people trained to the minute , if they do find calcification ,they will reschedule and go in a different way for key hole surgery to remove the blockage and eliminate any chance of stroke ,children have the same problem with this build up ,and it is cleaned up reasonably quickly ,stents are put in, and a new invention is a plastic ring that spreads the arterys good luck william m

stroke if your bp don; t get down, I can t imagine a cardiologist not treating that, CHF will fluctuate, but I imagine you are on the brim of Heart Failure cause your poor heart is having to work very hard. A heart cath, is when they look for blockages, going in via groin, doesn t hurt, rocovery for about 6 hours and home. Just expect to be on your back during recovery
