Im 28 years old and 5 ft tall. Im eating under 900 calories per day. 500 on average. Is this safe? -

I am currently 140 and droping. I have severe hypertension and have developed dark urine and leg and foot cramps. I want to eat more but Im afraid of gaining. I need help!!

No it s not safe. The MINIMUM amound of calories you should be consuming is 1,200 calories per day. I know you re loosing weight now, but it will eventually stop and you will gain weight. That is because if you consume too little calories, your body will go into quot;survival modequot; and store all the calories it gets instead of burning some. It is very unhealthy. I would see a doctor to make sure that your hypertension is under control and that you didn t do any severe damage. You need to eat more. If you re concerned about loosing weight, see a nutritionist and start working out. Long term weight loss is not achieved by crash dieting. It takes a HEALTHY, BALANCED diet and exercise.

Not only is it unsafe, you are compromising your muscle mass by eating such a low amount. Do you want to lose fat or muscle? Because at only 500 calories a day, at least 50% of the weight you lose will be muscle. So you ll lose weight, you ll get smaller, but your body fat percentage won t go down much and you will still feel flabby. If the problems with hypertension and cramping get any worse and you can t bring yourself to eat more calories, then you must go to see your doctor. What you are doing is dangerous.

You are going into ketosis from starvation and that s why the dark urine . You are also lacking in potassium and vitamin C plus you are dehydrated I m sure - thats why you are cramping ! I think YOU know that your calories are too low and you are going to kill yourself at this rate . I m really surprised someone at your age does not know this is wrong ! Get some help !

Dark urine can be a sign of dehydration (among other things) and can be causing the cramping. Your caloric intake is too low and likely not well balanced either. 500 calories is not enough to sustain your health. A well balanced 1200-1400 calories and some exercise might do you some good.

Fear of gaining? That sounds REALLY familiar to me...Eating Disorder! If you can stop it....please do! It is horrible to have one. It s there ALWAYS....u have no idea how annoying it is.............. The cramps might be a lack of nutrients (potassium)...I know i ve been there....Take vitamin supplements since you are eating so little. Just take care of yourself before you become obsessed.....trust me!

noooo ...you could end up callapsing this happened to me ..i was sick on a vaction once off food and after that i was afraid to eat anything soo i started eating like that and well ...i collapsed and got high blood pressure ...you dont need that plus you will gain it all back ...

Wow, you re 28 years old and you need to ask such a stupid question? I m only 15 and even I know that 500 calories isn t enough to sustain a person. 1200 is the lowest you should ever go. You can still lose weight that way. Please don t hurt yourself.

My friend ruined her colon by doing this and now has to wear a poop bag on her because her colon became quot;friedquot;. You have no idea what you are doing to the rest of your organs. Please get help. Nothing is worth losing your health!

ya, def eat. eat does not make you gain weight. you really need water. and alot, and eat fruits and veggies and lean protiens!!

No it is not safe. You should eat around 1300-1400 cals...end exercise everday. 3 days a week strength training and 7 days a week cardio. Should help you lose the weight.

It s not safe AT ALL!! It sounds like you could possibly have an eating disorder. See a doctor or dietician.

no , this isnt safe you could pass out and the bad effect is one u eat over 500 cal u will gain all that weight.

I would suggest eating.

see a doctor dear. please. i know it sounds silly but dark urine always concerns me.
